All Gmail Users Are Given Two Separate Email Addresses
2008-03-07 11:34:53
You probably know how to create multiple email aliases in Gmail by adding the plus symbol and dots to your Gmail username but there is something more interesting. When you create a Gmail account, you actually get two email addresses - one is the regular @gmail.com while the second email address has @googlemail.com in the domain. That means if your email address in Gmail is something like billgates@gmail.com, all email messages that are sent to billgates@googlemail.com will also be delivered to your own Gmail account. That’s two for the price of one. Like the Gmail plus trick, you can take advantage of these two domains so that less spam reaches your Gmail Inbox. Give the @googlemail.com address to your close contacts (put that in the visiting card) while keep the @gmail.com addre

Use Google Docs To Compare Two Text Files Online
2008-03-07 11:17:44
WinMerge, Beyond Compare , ExamDiff and Altova Diffdog are some popular utilities that help you visually compare differences in two files but a problem with these software is that they work only on the desktop. Since there are no online file comparison services available yet, we can use our favorite Google Docs to locate differences between two text files or files that contain programming source code. Here are the step involved for comparing two files with Google Docs: Step 1. Create a new document in Google Docs and paste the contents of the first text file into this document. Save. Step 2. Open your second text file in notepad and copy its content to the clipboard. Now open the Google Document created in Step 1 and overwrite everything with content from the clipboard. Save. Step 3. Find Installed Hardware And Software Without Opening Your PC
2008-03-07 10:50:53
Sometimes, unplugging everything from your PC and opening it up just to find out what the model of the motherboard or PCI card is turns out to be a real pain.  There are a few utilities out there that you can simply run and they will tell you what hardware and software live in your PC. One of the more popular system audit applications is Belarc Advisor.  After installing, you can run it, and it generates an HTML report listing installed hardware and software.  It’s very easy to use. Another (albeit lesser-known) system audit application is SIW.  This one requires no installation, and offers excessive detail on installed hardware and software.  To build a report, simply go to the “File” menu > “Create Report” and click “HTML”.  This will create a report in an HTML file

Set a Blank Password in Windows XP To Protect the Computer from Internet Attacks
2008-03-06 11:31:52
Some useful information. Your Windows XP computer is more safe if you don’t set any password at all than using some weak password like "abc123" which can be easily guessed by hackers. Using a blank password (or no password at all) makes your computer more secure because Windows XP accounts, that are not protected by a password, cannot be accessed remotely over the network or the Internet . You have to be physically infront of the computer in order to get in. Due to this default behavior, it is better to leave a blank password assigned to an XP account rather than assigning a weak, easily guessed password. An official guide from Microsoft on Password Strength therefore suggests using blank passwords on Windows XP machines when the following criteria are met: • You only have one computer

2008-03-06 11:11:26
Here’s an interesting site that’s useful in a pinch for determining whether or not a certain game will be able to run on your hardware: Can You Run It. Basically, you select the game from the dropdown and hit the “can you run it” button. This will work in either IE or Firefox (sorry Opera folks…it’s a no-go). It then gives you a breakdown of which pieces of hardware are holding you back (CPU, RAM, video card, etc) according to the game’s minimum requirements and recommended

SQL Injection
2008-03-03 08:35:37
SQL injection is a technique that exploits a security vulnerability occurring in the database layer of an application. The vulnerability is present when user input is either incorrectly filtered for string literal escape characters embedded in SQL statements or user input is not strongly typed and thereby unexpectedly executed. It is in fact an instance of a more general class of vulnerabilities that can occur whenever one programming or scripting language is embedded inside another. You can get more on SQL injection from here.

Convert Your PHP Scripts To A Windows Program
2008-03-03 07:14:52
This tip is for developers out there who know PHP. If you have ever wanted to convert your PHP scripts into a standalone Windows executable program there are several options out there for you. First, there are the "standard" PHP to EXE compilers you can get such as Bambalam or PriadoBlender. However, a more intriguing option is WinBinder. WinBinder, in a nutshell, bridges the gap between the PHP interpreter and the Windows API allowing you to create and distribute PHP applications as Windows programs. WinBinder also features a graphical form editor you can use to create GUI’s for your applications. There are also many more features you can read about on WinBinder’s site. WinBinder is completely free (and open source) and something PHP developers should definitely take a look at.

Microsoft to test new measure of Web ads
2008-03-02 00:16:23
Microsoft Corp said on Monday it would test a new way to measure the effectiveness of Internet advertising in a challenge to an industry standard that has helped the likes of Web search leader Google Inc. Microsoft's "Engagement Mapping" is due to begin in beta form on March 1 and departs from a standard that ties sales, leads and traffic to the last ad that a user clicked on online. Instead, it attempts to take into account all the Internet interactions that lead a consumer to buy a product. Microsoft's new ad initiative follows its purchase of online marketing company aQuantive for $6 billion last year in an effort to capitalize on the fast-growing online ad market and better compete against Google. The software maker is also in the midst of a $41 billion unsolicited takeover attempt

Adobe AIR
2008-03-02 00:09:02
The line between software that people access over the Internet and software that resides on their PCs will blur over the next several years, as an announcement from Adobe reminds us. Adobe today introduced AIR, an application that lets people access Web sites even when they aren’t online. Someone who wants to put an item up for bid on eBay, for example, could fill out the form through the AIR software while the PC isn’t connected to the Web. The software would automatically post the information to eBay the next time the computer is connected to the Internet. Adobe isn’t the only company trying to bridge the gap between online software and traditional PC software: Google, Microsoft and others have similar initiatives. That’s because while online software has a number of advantages
