I should have known
2007-12-16 16:47:00
I should have known better than to have a few drinks last night at the Casino party. Since I did not have any at Fidos on Friday night and it was an open bar, I thought what the heck might as well celebrate with my friends. I paid for that choice though - now that I am feeling better after a day of rest it does not seem so bad, but realistically if I think back to last night or this morning I would say it was totally not worth it.Paul pulled the futon out and made sure I was comfortable he even went and got a few things and cooked me a nice breakfast.Ice truck

Elves visit the tacoshack
2007-12-15 17:56:00
A few elves came to the tacoshack yesterday and dropped off some holiday treats - one of the elves came from Changes in Latitudes and the other from Houston. We have been sampling the sweets and they are delicious. Not to gloat but every day I go outside and I think man it is hot and how lucky we are to be living here - it's December and for the second year in a row we are not experiencing snow storms and cold weather - that is something to be extremely grateful for.Tonight we are going to meet up with some of the gang for the official opening of the Casino. I have my stack of quarters ready for the slots - Lara and Paul. are going to be spinning fire with Zac on drums.Overall the Casino party was lots of fun - they plied us with food and drink - people danced and were very chatty - We went between the party upstairs and the gaming room downstairs - the only gamblers upstairs were the poker players - I have to say I am a bit disappointed in the slot machines because they do not take qu

Rebecca's Favorite Bartender of the Week
2007-12-14 20:34:00
I first went into Lime to grab a quick beer before a flight and found out that it's a pretty cool place, not only for a beer or two but for a great breakfast or lunch. If you arrive at the airstrip even 5 minutes early...pop into Lime. The cool AC is blasting, the boarding announcements are piped in so there is no way you can miss your flight and you'll meet possibly the friendliest, chattiest bartender in town. Her love of San Pedro and Belize is infectious and I promise, you'll find yourself going back in again and again. Also...if you have friends arriving for a visit, sit at the bar, look for their flight out the window and greet them with some cold to-go Belikins. Trust me, your visitors will be most grateful. Anyway...meet my favorite bartender of the week, Mel.Name: Imelda (Mel)Bartender at: Lime Bar, Restaurant and Internet Cafe - right across the street from the Tropic terminalLived in San Pedro for: 7 years, born in Orange Walk and grew up in Belize Ci

Santa sighting in San Pedro
2007-12-13 15:42:00
It was quite a feat to pull of getting enough presents for 400 Holy Cross kids especially when the donated shipment of toys did not arrive on time.Luckily... some of the message boarders had been shopping - Miss Grace made a toy trip to Belize City - a last minute spree in town and a willing bunch of elves stuffing stockings with school supplies helped make sure that Santa had enough goodies to hand out. You can see by the smiles on their faces that the kids were quite pleased at what Santa brought them. Thanks goes out to all who helped make this possible. To see more pictures please visit the Holy Cross BlogOther exciting news Reef Radio held a telethon today to help get funding for the road in San Mateo up and running.I walked 2.01 miles today - 6374 steps - 1790 aerobic steps - 16 minutes of aerobic activity (thanks for the new batteries for my pedometer Bill and Becky I am using them)Emily and TyraFirst donation from Reef Radio telethon.More donations coming in for the roadStuffing

Town Meeting
2007-12-13 07:13:00
I was not able to go to the town meeting last night so I will leave you with what Rebecca had to say about it...A town meeting was called last night to discuss the potential sale of 3,000 acres of North Ambergris Caye by the Belizean Government. I attended and this is what I learned. A few weeks ago, the dereservation and sale of a chunk of Bacalar Chico was reversed but now it seems the government is looking elsewhere (outside of the national park) to complete this transaction with foreign investors. So far, the govt has been vague about which land they are looking to sell, but those at the meeting seem certain that it is the "Pinkerton Estates", land that was set aside years ago for infrastructure and for the future generations of San Pedro. The sale price quoted ($4000bzd/acre) is a fraction of the market price which was speculated at hundred of millions USD at the meeting. Many (including the Mayor) asked, ..."if the government needs this money so badly, why don't th

So much is happening so fast it it is hard to keep track. We had a blast at Julia gardens last night - hanging out by the pool flagging friends down as they passed by - what a great place to party.Dianne shared what is going on with the night sky over the next 3 days. Road work
2008-03-11 18:36:10
Now that the rush is over I feel like I have time to stop and think - instead of being so busy doing I can slow down and focus on future direction and what I need to do in order to get there.I have been considering a 12 day cleanse and working up to taking the plunge. I just pulled out the recommended food guide this afternoon to see what is easily available here. I heard there was one in Belize city but not made it there to see what the have.I will leave you with a few pictures of the work going on around town.Back street getting ready to be coblestonedRoad workBack streetSide street

March crawl
2008-03-11 08:56:42
March crawl today - will be an adventure meeting lots of new people.I will have some good pics to post later. Ran into drummer Jim at perk today and out of the blue will be at Wet Willy's when we go tonight - will be good to see/hear them play again. One of the cool things about March crawl is that other than Ken and Mel we really did not know anyone before hand other than having talked on the message board. Was a great group of people and many of them went the distance. Had a big rainstorm and everyone just escaped getting soaked - Paul said they made it to the phoenix by the time it started coming down so not far from Wet Willy's. I was lucky and Lara made a detour with me so I could close our windows - she dropped me off at home a sec went to run an errand and when she came back the win

Last day in Paradise
2008-03-11 08:46:38
Just like the side streets neat super buy in San Pedro Belize, this blog is under construction.Today is last full day on the island the girls leave tomorrow morning. We are about to head north in the golf cart to show them a few nice houses out that way.Getting lots done, Jo made it back to the school, we got to see JD, some north island homes and made it to the cut for a swim - leaving just enough time to return golf cart and get cleaned up for sunset cruise with Seaduced. We all had a great time on the boat - as always the SEAduced crew attended to our gang with food, drink, music and laughter. We picked the perfect night to go - the sunset was just spectacular. After the cruise some headed Canucks others were hungry and went to Blue Moon. We decided to make a short pit stop at the tacosha

Happy Baron Bliss day
2008-03-10 18:42:14
We finally got out internet back this morning. It was out since a short planned power outage yesterday morning. The power went out just when we were finished having breakfast at Changes in Latitudes and when we got home power was on but no net.Since today is a holiday we did not expect that it would be up till tomorrow. Thankfully while at perk this morning Alan called us and said he was up and running. Peace to who ever went and flipped the switch or did what ever they did to get us all back online. In 1926, Baron Bliss sailed in his yacht the Sea King to Belize and fell in love with the green Caribbean Sea, the cayes and balmy climate. The fourth Baron Bliss of the Kingdom of Portugal, Henry Edward Ernest Victor Bliss, was an Englishman by birth. Baron Bliss willed about two million usd t

Time share adventures
2008-03-05 09:14:22
Yesterday on our way into town we stopped to say hi to Melody, she politely asked if Erin and Jo wanted to do the Costa Maya tour today and said I could go along for the ride.We are getting cleaned up - packing to go bags and swimsuits on. Paul will hold down the fort and get a break from noisy girls ha ha.The boat ride to Costa Maya was nice - not too choppy. Once we got there they set everyone up with their forms and sent us to breakfast. The woman who was accompanying us Shannon was fun and we had lots of laughs over breakfast and answering questions during the presentation. After we were done we headed to the dive shop where Craig and his staff set us up with our snorkel gear ($5 usd for half day I think). Jo ended up on the dock while Erin and I decided to take a kayak out and see Mex

What a morning!!

What a morning - I was too tired and got fooled by a link in a chat with a friend on the coconut phone - those silly things travel way to fast. So instead of uploading and posting yesterday afternoon's pics, I spent the morning making sure there was nothing on my lap top that should not be - I cannot believe for all the hoax's forward people are keeping alive that no-one is catching the real ones.Note to self - they are getting sneakier do not click any links without enough morning coffee first(did spy bot and it picked up a couple of cookies and registry things that should not be there so it worked)Thanks to Alan we have some steps to a fix if you should need them. There is a bug or virus in MSN Messenger that appears when you are chatting to someone in MSN that appears as though it came f

Still walking
2008-03-03 15:24:40
It is Sunday and we are still walking around San Pedro.Today I needed to get a new note book for school (before the next advisory board) so we walked down by the lagoon and all along the back way till we got past the high school then we cut over one and headed back down to Ritchies side store - they have a lot of stationary type stuff.Afterwards we wandered down middle street stopping to get some snacks and some coffee rum at the rum cigar store, as we were hearing to Rocks to get some mash and more instant coffee, Paul turned up. We have been sitting at home chatting ever since. The girls are getting ready to go to the beach now.A big bunch of us met at BC's and had a great afternoon/evening. Got home in time to watch Oprah's "Big Give" challenge to change lives in the most dramatic way.P

Found this today when looking at a photo gallery.. Think it should be my new motto - Gailtor"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." .....Mark Twain10: 16 am - Listening to Guantanamera - Buena Vista Social Club - girls just cooked a big omelette - Paul is going for coffee at perk. Career day
2008-02-27 08:42:44
In an effort to get the kids thinking about their future, Holy Cross School held Career Day on Monday February 25th at 1 pm. 12 people, local and from abroad came out to teach the kids about the work world. The speakers covered a wide range… banking, tourism, hospitality, Ambergris Caye Apprenticeship program, agriculture, Police, medical, health and wellness. The kids leaned why it is important to do what they love, what skills they will need to focus on in order to advance in the career world such as math science language, spelling to name a few. They also leaned what schooling is required for each field and how they can earn an income within that field and also have the potential to travel and relocate in different places. Some jobs such as Atlantic Bank positions are open to l
