HEAT AND TIMBERWOLVES COMPLETE TRADE!The Miami Heat and the Minnesota Timberwolves completed a 6 player deal Wednesday. The Heat got the package of Mark Blount and Ricky Davis, while sending Antoine Walker, Michael Doleac, Wayen Simien and a conditional first-round draft pick to Minnesota. This really shakes up the team that is most likely contending this year-the Heat. I would say that Pat Riley wanted to get rid of Antoine Walker and this was the best deal out there. He was critical of his conditioning and probably thought as I did in that Walker is not very consistent. I like the deal from both angles. Wayne Simien could develop into a solid big man who could get you 10 and 10 a night. This helps the Heat by giving them a strong back up center for Shaq in case of more injury problems.I am pleased that Ricky Davis is going to a team that will actually compete and at least make the playoffs this year. He should really have a coming out party this year and shine in the inferno of the

ARE YOU READY FOR THE NBA SEASON!Tonight the NBA season will begin on TNT with a doubleheader. First an injury plagued Portland Trailblazers team will play the Spurs in San Antonio. The Spurs will be given their championship rings before this game begins. I don't expect this game to be very interesting. The only thing important to me is if the Spurs can prove they are still serious while getting their rings. We saw the terrible beginning to the Heat's season just last year, when they got their rings and were then blown out by the Nets. After that game, the Houston Rockets will play the L.A. Lakers in L.A. I know there are a lot of rumors surrounding Kobe and his status in staying with L.A., but will be ready to play and I expect him to really impress people. The Lakers also may be a better than expected team in terms of their seeding in the Western conference.Sit back, relax and enjoy some NBA basketball. Head over to TNT right now for pre-game coverage!

SONICS WANT TO MOVE TO OKLAHOMA CITY!Sonics Chairman Clayton I. Bennett said that the Sonics have told David Stern they intend to relocate to Oklahoma City. This is the right move for the team to make in terms of being a profitable team and a team that has a better fan base. The city will welcome them with open arms and treat them the same way they did the Hornets when they had to relocate to Oklahoma City. David Stern has probably run out of ways to keep them in Seattle and will see the sense in them relocating to a place with a better arena.

The Nets are the real deal this year, but this was a sign of something they need to work on. Their defense down the stretch shows signs of a team that needs to change it up on defense and try to confuse other teams by having their defensive strategies change throughout the game. I also want to see the ball pounded to the big three down the stretch because Richard Jefferson needs to score in the fourth quarter unless they have a 30+ point lead.Chris Paul had a monster game with 27 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds. Paul was a big contributor to the late game triumph because he stole a defensive rebound late and passed it out to Morris Peterson for a four point play after he made the free throw. Jason Kidd had 14 points, 10 assists and 9 rebounds. Kidd will always put up numbers, but the Nets

MAGIC TRADE ARIZA TO LAKERS!The Orlando Magic traded Trevor Ariza to the LA Lakers for Brian Cook and Maurice Evans. This deal is good and bad for both teams. I think Ariza will be a good fit in LA, but I question the trade of Brian Cook because Kwame Brown recently went down and although Cook doesn't play his position, I think keeping him through this shortage of centers would have been the wise thing to do.Cook is a great addition, and I think of him as a new younger Pat Garrity. I thought Ariza had a much brighter future than both the players they picked up in return. Maybe I am wrong, but time will only tell how good Ariza is compared to Cook and Evans.

Photo by: Phelan M. EbenhackMAGIC GIVE CELTICS THEIR FIRST LOSS OF THE SEASON!The Orlando Magic beat the Boston Celtics 104-102, to give the Magic a 9-2 record and the Celtics a 8-1 record. I thought the Magic played better throughout 48 minutes and deserved to grind out a win. The Celtics were inconsistent and turnover prone, which foiled a 4th quarter comeback attempt that momentarily gave them the lead. The Magic took way too many three pointers, and although adding a three point specialist in Rashard Lewis, they didn't take smart three's. Two players in particular took too many three's that weren't always open or in rhythm. The aforementioned Lewis only made a third of his outside shots or 2-6 from beyond the arc. Keith Bogans made a fourth of his shots or 2-8. A combined 4-14 is not sufficient for important games against a team atop the East conference that you need to prove you are tough against.Dwight Howard had 24 points and 6 rebounds, while shooting 10-20 from the free thr

CAVS LIKELY TO LOOSE VAREJAO TO BOBCATS!The Bobcats and free agent Anderson Varejao have reached an agreement on a three year offer sheet that will most likely mean he will not return to play for Cleveland. The Bobcats made a great move in bringing in Varejao, as long as they don't overpay him. This could also be a deal that will fuel a sign and trade that would put him back in Cleveland, but that is very unlikely. The Bobcats are usually dealing with injuries at this position, so having another backup that plays solid defense is great. I am glad that Anderson will be able to get back out on the court soon and bring his high intensity and energy back to the game.

Photo by: Alex BrandonHORNETS BEAT MAVERICKS!The Hornets beat the Mavericks 112-108 in overtime, to end a 21 game losing streak against the Mavs. The game was close and the two Western powerhouses played very hard. I loved how the referees let the teams play, but in the fourth quarter they should have called a few more fouls and kept the game clean at crunch time. I think this will be a great rivalry from now on because the Hornets are healthy this year and the Mavericks are still going strong as one of the best of the west.Chris Paul led the way with 33 points, 12 assists and 9 rebounds. This was an impressive performance from Paul. He picked up the pace of the game with his fancy moves through the lane that ended with sweet layups. Peja Stojakovic had 22 points and 5 rebounds. He is not as good as he used to be, but he was on the ball tonight. I would like him to have a better balance of shooting jumpers and getting into the paint. If he doesn't diversify his offensive game, teams

PREVIEW OF CELTICS AT HEAT GAME!Tonight the Boston Celtics will play the Heat tonight in Miami at 8:00 pm Eastern time on ESPN. I am looking to see something good from the Heat for once, because right now they are 4-10 and that won't cut it. I predict the Celtics will win, but the Heat will come close because of a late 4th quarter comeback. Everyone in Miami needs to get it together if they are serious about even making the playoffs. The Eastern conference is now a lot tougher and in order to compete they need a strong streak from here until the all star break.Boston will also be very well rested for this game, since the barely had to play last night against the Knicks to beat them by more than 50.

PHIL JACKSON SIGNS TWO YEAR EXTENSION WITH LAKERS!Current Lakers coach Phil Jackson has agreed to sign a two year extension with the Lakers that will play him 11 or 12 million dollars a year. He was already the highest payed coach in sports and now he got a raise. He deserves a contract like this that pays him a lot of money because he is the coach that is most likely to get the Lakers to win more games. I don't know if he is that happy with Lakers management, but I think he is willing to stay the course for a salary raise.I wish he and the Lakers luck over the next two years.

Photo by: Elise AmendolaCELTICS DO MORE THAN BLOW OUT THE KNICKS!The Celtics dominated the Knicks throughout their game and won 104-59. The Knicks body language told you everything. They aren't putting their hearts into the game and it is truly sad to see how terrible they are playing out on the court. This team needs some restructuring and maybe a change in the whole team's attitude to be a playoff team again. The Celtics big three combined for 50 points and if you think about it, maybe they should have played the whole Knicks team by themselves and they still might have been able to pull out a victory.Ray Allen had 21 points and 5 rebounds. Allen and the other new members of the Celtics have been extremely unselfish since they came to Boston and that is why they are 12-2. Paul Pierce also added 21 points along with 8 rebounds. Pierce isn't overextending himself or under extending himself, he is at a perfectly balanced level. I want to see him get five assists or more in the future

SHOOTING INVOLVING JAMAAL TINSLEY AND HIS BROTHERS!When Tinsely's brothers were leaving the club Cloud Nine, there was a disturbance about their cars. Then some harsh words were said, and his brothers left in three cars that were all registered to Tinsley. As they drove downtown, shots were fired at them. A Pacers trainer named Joey Qatato was shot in the arm, but luckily he is in good condition.Police say a member of Tinsley's entourage may have also returned fire. Police are looking for a dark colored Dodge Charger and a blue truck. This is a bad story and I hope the criminals are found and justice takes its course. I wish Joey Qatato the best and hope his family isn't taking this too hard. Parts of this report were taken from www.realgm.com.

Photo by: Tony DejakCAVS BEAT LAKERS 94-90!The Lakers visited the Cavs and lost on the road 94-90, to add a loss to the Lakers record that is now 15-10. I thought the Lakers were a lock for this game, especially with the latest lack luster play from the Cavaliers, but I was wrong. LeBron James was on the ball in this game, with 33 points and 10 boards. LJ will be the one who gets his team back on track, but it is going to take a lot of points and hard minutes from him to do so.Andrew Bynum is really impressing me and finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds. The Lakers played Bynum more than the Cavs played LeBron. Now that tells me that Phil Jackson trusts the center (who is averaging a double-double with 11.1 points and 10 boards) and wants him to continue to improve his game.

Photo by: Nick WassWIZARDS BEAT KINGS! The Washington Wizards beat the Sacramento Kings 92-79, to improve to 13-10. Although each team was missing some great players, (Kings-Mike Bibby, Kevin Martin; Wizards-Gilbert Arenas AKA-Agent Zero ) there were some spectacular plays in this game. Dahntay Jones throw's down a nasty dunk to get the crowd going. Check out nba.com's Haier play of the day to see it.I think the Wizards are doing okay without Gilbert Arenas, although the last four teams they have played aren't that impressive. I averaged the records of the Heat, the Timberwolves, Nets and Kings and it came out as 7-13.5. Beating teams that averaged together have a record under 500 is not impressive no matter who is out in my opinion. I want to see them take this momentum and continue to build this winning streak.Brendan Haywood plays a solid game and finished with 17 points and 11 boards. I think as some of the stars are out like Arenas is now, guys like Haywood are able to build up

Photo by: Gus RuelasLAKERS BEAT THE SUNS ON CHRISTMAS DAY!The Lakers played well the entire game and won 122-115. The game remained close throughout about 3 quarters, but the Lakers had an easy lead in the closing minutes of the fourth. I was impressed by the young Lakers who played with confidence and weren't afraid to show the Suns what they've got. I think the Lakers have made tons of mental strides this season and everyone trusts each other like never before. Initially, I thought this could be a down year for the Lakers, but I think I was wrong.Andrew Bynum had another record breaking game with a new career high (yep, another career high) 28 points and 12 boards. I think the Lakers should trade Kwame Brown (as if anyone wants him) and promote Bynum to the starting role permanently. Jackson is probably open to it, I just want him to be hard on him so that he keeps his composure and his head in the game. Kobe Bryant had another 30+ night with 38 [points and 7 assists. Bryant is he

BULLS FIRE SCOTT SKILES!After a two game losing streak compounded with a horrible start to a new season, John Paxson decided to fire head coach Scott Skiles. Although I agree with John that it was right to shake things up, I don't agree with his timing. He should have put in a little consideration to Scott's personal life, although I understand his reasoning (he wants to win!). The Bulls have decided not to announce a replacement for Skiles yet. I don't know if this will change the results of the Bulls play, but a coach that allows the team to run on offense and score more would give the a morale boost."This was a difficult decision to make, but one that was necessary at this time," Bulls general manager John Paxson said. "Scott helped us in many ways during his time with the Bulls; most importantly, he helped this franchise get back to respectability. I am appreciative of his hard work and the imprint that he left on our team."Looking at the replacement market, could Larry Brown be

SUNS BEAT THE SPURS AT HOME!In what was a tight game from start to finish, the Suns were able to grind out a win over the Spurs 94-87. The Suns were clearly focused in this game and it should help them gain momentum for an end of the season push. The Suns defense was the best I've seen since the Shaq deal; they played Tony Parker very well down the stretch. Grant Hill and other bigger players made it tough for Parker to use his much improved jump shot against them. A few turnovers late in the game helped fuel the Suns offensive attack. I think Shaq looked really comfortable with the Suns tonight, his best performance yet.But I still have one question about this new look team: can they keep up the intensity they brought to today's game? Will this team have a problem similar to Shaq Laker te

The NBA has complied with a team's protest (for once) and tonight the Heat and Hawks will start play with 51.9 seconds left and the Hawks up three points. To me this request should just be forgotten now. None of these teams will have a severe playoff presence and I'd rather see the Heat play less with their recent performance. Here is a funny video about the whole thing:The Hawks are on the outside looking in, they still have a chance. I'm hoping Mike Bibby and Joe Johnson can propel them past New Jersey (they need a lottery pick more than the Hawks). I remind you this is the D-League of the NBA that is the East, so anything can happen (unless you are the Heat). Also, on the subject of the Heat, why not let Pat Riley go watch the NCAA? He could see some actual talent (sorry Wade, you're good

LAKERS BEAT THE MAVERICKS IN OVERTIME!Led by Kobe's best performance so far this season, the Lakers beat the Mavericks 108-104 in overtime. This game lived up to my expectations for sure. You could sense the importance of this game on both sides, it was a true playoff atmosphere. Dirk had a chance to tie the game late with a three, but air balled that shot and Odom hit a free throw to win it for the Lakers. You have to question Dirk a little bit based on his performance with game winning shots. Sure, he hit the shot to force overtime, but I still don't really have complete trust in him taking the last shot. The defense on Kobe was too weak for them to stop his (and the Lakers) momentum. Changing up the defense frequently out of time outs, etc. could have forced LA to not be as effective on

PREVIEW OF SUNDAY'S ACTION!Today, starting at 1pm Eastern, ABC kicks off a doubleheader. The new look Bulls will come to the Q (Quicken Loans Arena) to face the Cavs. The part of this game that entices me is that these two teams were involved in a big three team trade recently (seethis post). Those players, who were traded should consider this a showcase to prove their former team wrong for trading them. That will result in a battle between these two teams. The Bulls don't have much to play for, they are 12 games under 500. and maybe a lottery pick would send them in the right direction next year. LJ (LeBron James) needs to have another wonderful game to put the Cavs on top. A triple double performance from James would not surprise me.Then, at 3:30 Eastern time, Dallas will try to make some

MAVS BEAT T-WOLVES!In what was a close game for about three quarters, the Mavs beat the Timberwolves 99-83. I don't know why the Timberwolves stopped playing in the fourth quarter. Maybe it was the overwhelming J-Kidd factor that propelled Dallas to a 26-10 fourth quarter advantage.I was quite impressed with the Timberwolves play (for the first three quarters). They didn't shoot too many threes (a total of 4 for the whole game, ESPN says 2, but I saw more). Jaric worked well with Craig Smith and Al Jefferson. The give and go's were a thing of beauty. Smith showed his terrific offensive skills, embarrassing the Mavs front court defense. Despite only scoring four points, he is a developing all around player that kind of reminds me of Jason Maxiell (he still needs to practice more, though).D

BEN WALLACE TO THE CAVS IN 11 PLAYER DEAL!The Cavs are now joining the teams that are shaking things up.Cavs get:F/C Ben Wallace (Bulls) F Joe Smith (Bulls)2009 2nd-round pick (Bulls)F Wally Szczerbiak (Sonics)G Delonte West (Sonics)Sonics get:F Ira Newble (Cavaliers)F Donyell Marshall (Cavaliers)F Adrian Griffin (Bulls)Bulls get:F Drew Gooden (Cavaliers) G Larry Hughes (Cavaliers)F Cedric Simmons (Cavaliers)G Shannon Brown (Cavaliers)Danny Ferry is really making things happen. KIDD FINALLY DEALT TO THE MAVS!JKidd is a Maverick again, thanks to a blockbuster deal with the Nets:Nets get: Devin Harris, Maurice Ager, Trenton Hassell, DeSagana Diop, Keith Van Horn (sign and trade), 08 and 2010 1st round draft picks, and three million in cash.Dallas gets: Jason Kidd, Malik Allen, and Antoine Wright.Lots of solid players move in this deal. I think Dallas loses depth and adds a more proven guard. The Nets did well for themselves, young guards to build around, a defensive specialist, and a solid big man. Van Horn most likely won't play, but if he were to play, he still may have a shot.Does Dallas become more of a contender? Maybe, but not by much, if at all. You look at the moves LA and the Suns made and this move doesn't change the dynamic of Dallas enough. Dallas will
