Yes, People CAN Make Money Online Without a Pagerank! Ask Tyler Cruz
2008-01-29 19:56:00
A lot of people tend to stress how important Google Pagerank is, though, they shouldn’t. If you get slapped with a decrease in your Pagerank, will that stop people from coming to your blog? Nope. Will you stop making money online? Nope. And honestly, if you are a great marketer, then Google Pagerank definitely won’t mean a thing to you.Like I mentioned in one of my previous posts, “Google Pagerank – It’s Just a Number, Who Cares?!” in which I discussed how its Google’s way of telling someone how important a page is. Well, everyone should have their own head on their shoulders so that Pagerank number should be overlooked. For instance, will people stop going to your blog if you’re a PR0? Nope. What if you were a former PR5 or PR6? And Google didn’t think too much of your site for whatever reason and they kept dropping your Pagerank until you’re back at the beginning – PR0. Will your readers leave? Will you lose money?A very good example is our friend, Tyl

New ‘Social Bookmark Exchange’ Site: ClipBook – Make Money or Build Traffic
2008-01-28 12:51:00
There’s a new site out there called Clipbook.us which is a ‘Social Bookmark Exchange ’ program. I actually like how it’s set up because it attracts two different audiences: Those who want to get paid and those who want more traffic. If you’re an active member in social bookmarking sites such as Digg.com, Technorati.com, StumbleUpon.com, Del.icio.us or Ma.gnolia.com, then this is probably the site for you. First of all, if you like Stumbling or Digging articles, then you can get paid for doing so.Here’s how it works:You sign up at Clipbook.us and right after the registration you have to enter in your username’s for each of the social bookmarking sites I previously mentioned. (Please note: Make sure you enter all of them correctly in the beginning because if you make changes in the future, you will have to spend ‘points’ for it.)So, how do you make money? Well, you get ‘points’ for each Digg, Stumble, etc from the list of links. So, if you Digg, Stumble, etc on a regu

Technorati Tags Gives More Traffic!
2008-01-26 00:21:00
Technorati is the blog search engine and yes, it does in fact bring in traffic. How? Well, that’s simple. All you have to do is add Technorati tags to each of your posts. This is simpler for Wordpress users because they have an easy-to-install plug-in which automatically detects the main keywords within each post and adds it to the Technorati search engine. For non-Wordpress users, you will have to add them manually, which is easy to do as well. Below is the html code: As you can see, it’s just a simple link code, though, what Technorati reads is the 'rel=”tag”' part of it. These tags will show up in the search engine under “posts.” Technorati also automatically inserts your “labels” to their “blog” search engine. For instance, if one of your labels is “Blogging Tips,” when you search for those keywords, your blog will show up in the “blog” section of the search engine. (See picture below – I think I did a bad job of explaini

How Many People Abandon Their Blogs? Here’s Some Stats For You!
2008-01-24 13:58:00
How long does it take for one to abandon their blogs? Or better yet, how long of a “vacation” do they take away from their blogs before they consider coming back? Well, the fact that many people tend to give up because they don’t see instant results, or it simply isn’t what they expected, those sites are just left there for dead. But I decided to do my own hands on experiment to see how many blogs have been “abandoned till this very day” or “abandoned at some point, then continued months later.”What I did was do random searches for blogs (Wordpress and Blogger) using their “next blog” feature. I broke it down into a couple various categories:- Blogs that are less than a month old,- Blogs that have not been updated for over a month,- Blogs that are now active but have taken at least a month off at some point- And blogs that are currently active that is two months or olderNow I know this excludes a lot of blogs but this was just a test, and I only got a chance to go

If Your Numbers Are Good… They Will Follow!
2008-01-22 16:15:00
How many leaders are there in the blogging world? Do you think you’re one of them? Well, no matter what you think, if there were no leaders then there would be no followers. But without followers, there would be no leader, am I right? So we have all heard of the big name bloggers before, who hasn’t? I mean, their names are only mentioned about 2,365,029 times a day. Well, maybe not that much but that’s how it feels sometimes, huh? But just like leaders, they were also once followers. It doesn’t mean they’re not innovators in their own way, but at some point in time, they were once a follower. Then they learned and they conquered… the blogging world. So, what does that tell you? You, me, us, we’re all followers at some point in time. That has to be true. It could be looking up to one of your parents and wanting to follow in their footsteps or reading Problogger.net and wanting to make money online. I mean, seriously, how many people have money-making blogs now beca

Which is Worse? Spam E-mails or Telemarketers?
2008-01-21 10:50:00
If you had to pick between spam e-mails or telemarketers, which would it be? Of course, the obvious choice would be “neither” but can we stop either or? Probably not. So, you’re probably wondering what in the hell is this post about in regards to blogging? Well, keep reading.I actually decided to write about this topic because not less than 10 minutes ago, I heard a telemarketer leaving a message on my answering machine, “this is an important notice regarding your vehicle’s warranty.”And yes, that woke me up.Then I turned on my laptop to check my e-mail to get 15 spam messages in my junk folder. Though, two of them were actually legit e-mails, but on the other hand, I got two spam messages in my inbox which cancels out.And this was only one e-mail account! It irritates me when spam messages get deleted when it’s actually legit, or when I get a recorded voice on my answering machine and it’s actually my student loans company calling me and I overlook the message. So,

Don’t Hold Blog Contests if You Are ‘Not’ Going to Payout!
2008-01-20 07:43:00
Why do bloggers run contests? It’s simple, they do it to increase exposure and build up their stats. But why would you offer incentives if you are simply not going to pay? In the long run, you’ll lose more than just those participants you screwed over. Personally, I have been screwed over twice and it has been on two very different occasions. The first, I participated in a contest that was giving away various prizes to five lucky contestants. And ‘oh look,’ I wasn’t the top prize winner, but ended up with a fourth place prize. I contacted the person hosting the contest on two different occasions and never heard anything back. The sad part about all of this, the prize that I won was just a cheap fourth place prize – equivalent to a simple backlink or something – and nothing. So why make a big deal post about it? It’s not about the prize; it’s about the moral behind the issue – “Don’t Hold Contests if You Are ‘Not’ Going to Payout… even i

DM Blog Review: ‘No Nonsense Internet Tips’
2008-01-19 11:18:00
‘No Nonsense Internet Tips’ is a great blog about making money online, but it doesn’t stop there. The blog owner, Bruce Hopkins, goes into so much depth it almost draws people to continue to come back or subscribe to his RSS feeds. If you have been to money making blogs (which I’m sure you have), you seen tons of people write about the “how to’s”, but Bruce takes it to another level. He writes post series. Yes, “post series.” We have all seen television series, of course, once you watch the first one, you get hooked. At that point, you almost always have to watch the second, third and fourth till you see the ending. Well, Bruce’s “post series” is exactly like that. You definitely want to stick around! Bruce has not only been a great blogger, but he’s a pretty good guy overall. He’s just as busy as the next person but he takes his time to reply back to any inquiries. I was fortunate to run across this blog from Entrecard.com. Whi

This is What You All Have Been Waiting For – FREE Link Love!
2008-01-18 09:59:00
No exchange links necessary, but definitely appreciated! So, I want to thank all of those people that took an extra second out of their busy day to return the favor. I decided that I’m going to be doing a “FREE Like Love” sometime between every six months (if I remember) because Technorati authorities are only based on people who link to you every six months.I think I got all of your comments, and if I missed one, let me know. Of course, if you came to my blog strictly for the link love, that is completely fine, but if I happened to miss you, well… you wouldn’t know it because you probably are never coming back. So ha!I did this for various reasons: I wanted to check out new blogs (which I got a chance to check out everybody’s and also commented on a few too!), wanted to meet new people and give back to the blogging community. But of course, there are other reasons too.I wanted to see how some of the bloggers would react, if they expected some sort of catch to it, if they w

People Sick of Blogs about Blogging/Making Money Online?
2008-01-16 11:31:00
How many of you guys are sick of seeing blogs about blogging or making money online? Well, not me (obviously). But there are tons of people who just grind their teeth at the fact of possibly stumbling upon one.First of all, if you are one of those people who are sick of blogs about blogging, you are obviously at the wrong territory website. But how many blogs about blogging or making money online are there really?I decided to check out Technorati and enter various keywords in the blog search pertaining to ‘money making’ and ‘blogging tips’ blogs, and here’s what I found:Make money online – 9,470Make money – 17,152Blog tips – 5,146Money – 33,604Blogging – 14,903Tips – 21,200Of course, these numbers aren’t as accurate as I’d like but it gives you an example on how many potential ‘money making’ and ‘blog tips’ blogs there are potentially talking about the same type of topics.Well, if you currently have one of these ‘money making’ or ‘blogging tips

Remember - Entrecard Does NOT Tell How Popular a Blog Really Is
2008-01-14 15:00:00
If you’re a blogger, I’m sure you’ve heard of Entrecard.com, the brand new way of advertising on other people’s blog (if they have the widget displayed) by paying with “Entrecard Credits.” If you haven’t heard about it, please read “How to Get FREE Advertising on John Chow’s Blog.”The thing about Entrecard is the fact that people tend to overlook the purpose of it – to gain exposure, build traffic, meet other bloggers and discover new, yet, interesting blogs. People have to remember that Entrecard does NOT determine how popular a blog really is.Basically, the more people who ‘drop’ their cards into your widget on your blog, the more expensive it is to advertise there. I started to notice that blogging moguls like John Chow, Darren Rowse and a few others are being overtaken by smaller bloggers who have like 12 RSS feed subscribers. Also, ‘John Cow’ recently took himself out of the Entrecard loop because he felt the system was getting abused and mentions t

Okay, I Caved In – I ‘Will’ Vote in the WTW vs. TC Contest
2008-01-13 15:49:00
I’m sure a lot of you guys have seen this contest (which ends on January 14th, 9 p.m. ET) between ‘Winning the Web’ and Tyler Cruz. To enter the contest, you have to vote for who you think should win (and why) between the both of them with three chances to win $100. The loser pays three contestants $100.Honestly, I wasn’t going to enter this contest because I am a Tyler Cruz fan and didn’t want to backstab him. But here I am backstabbing him (sorry bro!) for a chance to win $100 so yes, my vote is going to Gyutae Park of ‘Winning the Web.’A lot of you guys are probably thinking “damn Jay, that’s messed up! Why would you backstab him?” Well, technically I wouldn’t say I’m “backstabbing” him because he’s going to be reading this post (so I’m “front-stabbing?”). On top of that, he never knew I existed so technically he also never knew I was a fan. But also, he’s a good guy for introducing me to Park’s website (which I have never been to before

Google Pagerank – It’s Just a Number, Who Cares!
2008-01-12 13:48:00
A couple months ago, I came to a realization that Google Pagerank doesn’t mean a thing – and till this very day, it still doesn’t. And quiet frankly, it shouldn’t to all of you either.Everybody A Lot of people stress how important PR is, but honestly, it shouldn’t mean a damn thing. See, Google’s Pagerank is their way of telling you how good and important a website is.Wait, for those that missed that, let me put it in quotes for you. Google’s Pagerank is “their way of telling you how good and important a website is.” And let me also quote Google’s definition on what a Pagerank is – “Pagerank is a numeric value that represents how important a page is on the web.”First of all, how can a “Pagerank” tell me how good or important a website is? I didn’t know it was an acting brain for… myself! I go to various websites and a lot are PR0. So does that mean that particular PR0 website is less important than one that is PR3? Or PR10?Exactly. It doesn’t.I don

Quantity VS. Quality Visitors – Is it That Obvious?
2008-01-11 14:49:00
Quantity versus quality – that’s always a business thought. In a business environment you sometimes have to choose one over the other. But when it comes to blogging and visitors, which one would make more sense? Is it that obvious? When it comes to the content within blogs, quality almost always beats quantity. Personally, I would rather read one great post than three average ones. Of course, there are rare exceptions to this but for the most part, people continue to come back if the content is good. When it comes to visitors, is quantity really better than quality? Would you rather have 10,000 visitors come in one day that would stay on your site for .0314 seconds then leave, but have the possibility of catching a percentage of that group to stick around, or have 1,000 visitors that will read your content, comment, possibly subscribe to your RSS Feeds and spread the word on how great your content is within your blog?I’ve been thinking about this a lot, especially using socia

Yes, I Design Banners Too! - For Cheap
2008-01-10 11:46:00
Recently, I started to design custom 125 x 125 ads (read ‘I will Design Your 125 x 125 Ad for $1’) and they have been pretty popular, but I’m not 100 percent sure if it’s ONLY because it’s currently $1.00 USD. But this promotion is going to last through January then the cost will be $5.00 $6.00 USD, which is still VERY cheap. I just read people charge about $20.00 USD for that! The word got around on the great designs I have been doing that I was suggested to someone to do their banner. Unfortunately, that was not part of my promotion but I am still capable of doing those - and I did! Most people charge anywhere between $25.00 - $50.00 USD (or more) for a full banner (or larger) but I’m willing to do all that for ONLY $20.00 $21.00 USD. They also tend to charge by the hour. So, people’s rates fluctuate based on how long they spend on designing your banner/ads?! Why would you want to pay an “estimated” price that may change when I can do it for one flat rate.Yes, very che

DM Blog Reviews – The 1st Edition
2008-01-09 19:09:00
First, I want to say thank you to all of my visitors, especially those who have showed me more love (by linking back to my blog, commenting, adding me as a friend, etc) than I might deserve! I will try my best to continue and give back to all of you guys! But here we go with the very first ‘DatMoney’ blog reviews:First, there’s the lovely Jenny (She’s happily married fellas!) of ‘The So Called Me’ (and thank you Amanda for responding with ‘Bah’) who just recently changed her whole layout for the New Year. It’s a different feel from the old one but it still goes well with the overall theme “Me. My Life. My opinions.”Though, I was getting pretty fond of the old layout but change is always good. (And yes, we will ALL miss it)This blog discusses various topics from parenting to fashion to the daily activities of life. Jenny also gives back to the community in more ways than one, but she allows guest bloggers if anyone is interested and has similar interests. Some of

You Are NOT Chow, Schoemaker or Rowse – So Don’t Try to Be!
2008-01-08 16:29:00
When it comes to making money blogging, Chow, Schoemaker and Rowse are in a league of their own. People tend to look at their success like “Hey, I’m going to do the same exact thing as them and get rich!”Wrong! That’s probably one of the first mistakes you can make. A lot of people read what they write and think it’s easy, so they want to be just like them. But they end up falling through the cracks because it's extremely hard and when it comes down to it, you are not them. So, why try to be?Those three big-name bloggers are all in the same niche as each other and yet, all three are extremely successful. That must tell you something. We can ALL blog about the same thing and profit from it, so why try to be a John Chow, Jeremy Schoemaker or Darren Rowse? When you should really be yourself and make your own footsteps because when it comes down to it, they are not going to support you; you have to support yourself. Now, I’m not trying to bash any of these bloggers beca

Get Paid for your RSS Feeds?
2008-01-07 13:47:00
If you are a Bidvertiser publisher and have their advertisements displayed on your site (like I do), you probably received an e-mail the other day on their newest feature - 'BidVertiser Ads for your RSS Feeds .'Apparently, you can now display the Bidvertiser cost-per-click ads within your feeds. In addition to that, you can also get their 'multiple-subscription Feed Widgets' to help you publicize your feed. That's a mixture of free additional traffic AND getting paid for it!That sounds pretty good to me, though, I have yet to experience it so I'm giving it a try. I will report back on how effective this new program really is.And if you're tired of Google Adsense or any other pay-per-click ads that aren't working too well on your site, feel free to try out Bidvertiser. The unique part is they tell you what are the most paid out CPC advertisers they currently have. And if that falls under your niche, then thats even better! So, if you haven't already signed up, what are you wa

I’m Your Friend Not Your Foe – Let’s Collaborate!
2008-01-06 02:35:00
I’m taking my phrase “Help Me Help You Earn Money with Blogging Tips Through MY Personal Experience” to another level. I have never seen anyone as my competition (especially with some many money making blogs out there), but rather a friend, an ally, a fellow blogger that’s just trying to do the same thing I’m trying to do – make money.I started this blog because I felt like I could help people with the good and bads. I mean, designing peoples’ 125 x 125 ads for one dollar? Giving away FREE link love to ANYBODY that wants it? Informing people on how to build traffic and make money? If I’m not trying to help you, then I’m not so sure what help is anymore!Though, I recently collaborated with Patrick of Piggybankpie.com and his collaboration idea just reminded me how we should continue to support each other as bloggers. Sort of like “if you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours.”And yes, if you saw the movie “Superbad” I was almost tempted to say that lin

Blogging Theft! – Bloggers Steal Other Peoples’ Work?!
2008-01-04 22:18:00
We are all paranoid with identity theft, well, maybe that’s just me. But I’m hearing and seeing more and more bloggers stealing – yes, STEALING – other bloggers’ original content and claiming it’s their own. Why would people steal? I can understand “borrowing” material and crediting the source, but when you DO NOT credit them, that’s called “stealing.”I’m not going to put any blogs out there because I would only be giving them more publicity than they deserve. But the other day when I was browsing through various blogs, I noticed an article that looked very familiar. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t mine. Though, as I was reading the title, then the introduction and kept reading, I was thinking “damn, this looks VERY familiar.”After I stupidly finished reading the entire article, I checked to see if there was a source or any type of credit given.None. None whatsoever.I realized where I read that exact article from; my e-mail. Yes, I subscribed to a

I Will Design Your 125 x 125 Ad for You for ONLY $1
2008-01-03 14:57:00
Do you need help designing a 125 x 125 ad? Or are you sick of your current one but just don’t have time to make a new one? Well, let me do it for you!As a promotion to help people get more involved with Entrecard.com and to drop their cards at both of my blogs (DatMoney.com and DatCurious.com) I am offering my services to design a 125 x 125 ad through the month of January. The cost will be one dollar. Yes, one whole dollar. Most people would probably charge at least one month's paycheck $20 to do this.I’m just encouraging people to join Entrecard.com because I feel it’s a pretty good service. You don’t have to use the 125 x 125 ad for that site; you can use it for other purposes (such as advertising on other sites or even on your own) if you choose to. But I would jump on this opportunity because this mini promotion is only going to last through January 2008.Again, it’s only ONE dollar.Just take a look at my own design to the right where it says “Advertise Here!”If you ar

How to Get FREE Advertising on John Chow’s Blog
2008-01-02 12:00:00
Yes, FREE advertising on John Chow’s blog! Nope, it’s not a lie, there’s no money, dinero, yen, or any other currency involved. All you have to do is sign up for Entrecard.com.Was that a link bait? I wouldn’t say so. Technically, you don’t have to pay a dime.I’m sure most of you guys have heard about Entrecard.com, it’s a new “free exchange network” that displays a 125 x 125 advertisement on blogs that are displaying this widget (And yes, it does include big name bloggers like John Chow). If you need an example, just look to the right and when you sign up, feel free to drop your card! I also did a screenshot of the dashboard. But essentially, you build “credit” and use that as your currency to buy advertisement on various blogs. There’s three ways of earning credit:You earn 1 credit every time you “drop your card” for someone else. New Year’s Resolution, or Not

I hope I'm not the only one who gained like 10 extra pounds over the break, but to kick off a New Year , here's a meme for all of you! *Start Copy Here*When it comes to New Year’s Resolution s we seem to fall into four categories: 1) quite serious about them,2) be flippant about them,3) do it because we feel pressured to, or4) do not do them. So, the purpose of this little game is to let us know which category you are in. Copy from “*Start Copy Here*” through “*End Copy Here*” and post it. Before "*End Copy Here*" tell us who you are, your site(s) (with link) and your New Year’s Resolution, or not. Who Wants a Blog Review?
2008-01-01 18:12:00
First and foremost, Happy New Years to everyone! I hope 2008 is better than 2007 for all of you guys, in more ways than one. Since it’s a start of a brand new year, I decided I’m going to include ‘blog reviews’ for anyone who wants it. All I ask is a simple link back or even if you want to do a blog review of any one of my site(s), (DatMoney.com or DatCurious.com) then that would be fine. Though, if you do a link back or a review I ask that you include certain anchor text such as “Blogging Tips at DatMoney.com”, “Make Money Blogging”, or “Build Traffic to Make Money” for DatMoney.com. Then if you decide to link back or review DatCurious.com, please include anchor text such as “Sex Education Class You Wish You Had” or “Sex for the Curious Mind.” Please e-mail me at whojaybe@datmoney.com with your blog’s URL when you have linked back or written a review. Also, I have not forgotten about the “Free Link Love for EVERYONE”, I’m going to

Do You See Potential with Your Own Site?
2008-03-11 10:51:00
The reason why I’m writing this post is the fact that a lot of people tend to overlook how much potential their site really has. What makes matters worse is people that I see with great potential, they just don’t want to live up to it.First, we all start blogs for a specific purpose; whether it’s to try to make some money online, blogging for fun or simply to get your message/point across to a wide range of people that would listen.Obviously, when we first start a blog, we see the potential within ourselves and we get so excited until… we hit that wall. Then, all of a sudden we lose confidence and then we don’t see that same type of potential we once had. And we start giving up…But here’s the thing, we will all hit some sort of wall at some point in our blogging experience, i

Compete.com is probably just as Inaccurate as Alexa.com
2008-03-10 01:05:00
A fellow blogger brought to my attention the other day and mentioned “Wow, how many visitors are you getting daily? Compete .com says you’re getting over 16,000 unique visitors a month!”Well, all I can say is, Compete is inaccurate, almost reminds me of Alexa ratings, but let’s save that conversation for another day. Now, don’t get my wrong, I can lie and tell people I am getting 16,000 unique visitors a month but I’m not like that. But having this discussion got me curious, especially since I haven’t checked my monthly visitors for a couple weeks. So, this almost forced me to check out how I did for the past month.Although it’s not as good as I want, I’m making progress and it’s more than the previous month, which is always a good thing. I think I’m getting about 7

Requirements, Pros and Cons for Paid Review Sites – Part 1
2008-03-07 10:36:00
If you’re looking to make some extra cash as a blogger, paid reviews are a good way. I’ve compiled my list of paid review sites, but instead of listing them all at once, I’m breaking it up into 3 different posts. Why?Well, instead of just listing them, I’ve decided to give a little background on them, list their requirements, pros and cons. That way if you don’t like any aspect of their sites and how they are managed, you don’t even need to bother. So, we’ll start with my first five sites: PayPerPost – PPP is probably the most well-known paid review site out there now, that’s probably why Google has an ongoing feud with their customers (penalizing them with PR).Requirements : Blog needs to be a minimum of 90 days old and have at least 20 total posts or more.Pros: There are m

Blogsvine - The Newest Social Media Site Strictly for Blogs!
2008-03-06 00:02:00
How many social media and bookmarking sites are there now? Lots, right? And how many times have you gotten on those sites’ frontpage? None you say? Well, there’s a new social media site, and get this, it’s strictly for blogs!
