Playlist 24 1. Clinic - Magic Boots (Domino) This comes from an album called "Funf" which is a collection of some of Clinic's finest works, their b sides.2. My Favorite Jeans - Honey (CDR) This is a bit of a curiosity which fell on my doormat just the other day. I have very little information about the band other than the rather obvious fact that they are Swedish. 3. Rothko - Be Invisible (Bip Hop) From the new album "Eleven Stages Of Intervention"4. A Genuine Freakshow - I Left My Blood On Your Bathroom Floor (Self Released) Well for a start it's a great name for a band and secondly, it's a great band. A Genuine Freakshow come from Reading and this is one of three tracks on the bands latest EP which can be purchased at their My Space site HERE. Go to it!!5. Old Time Relijun - Tightest Cage (K) This is the new 7" single from what I'm tempted to say is Portland, Oregon's finest export. 6. The Harrisons - Monday's Arms (Remix) (White Label) I'm not sure if or when this 12" is goin

Sadly this wil be the bands final release and is a 7" single limited to just 377 copies. It was released a couple of months ago and is now probably sold out so if you should stumble across one grab it with both hands and shout yippee!3. Caz Mechanic - Go Home (Big Potato) This is the best track in my humble opinion from the new Caz Mechanic single which will be released on 5th June and can be purchased HERE4. Inverse Cinematic - Seven By Seven (Dave Da Gatos Baad Ass Tapas Mix) (Faces) Oooo this is a bit good. New 12" out this very week.5. The Jakpot
2007-06-21 07:23:00
I first heard this ep about a month ago but I think my ears must have been malfunctioning (or I had a hangover) because it'staken me a month to realise just how good it is. They're called The Jakpot and come from Manchester and prove once more, as if there was ever any doubt that all the best bands come from the north (exept for Prinzhorn Dance School who are currently my best band in the world yet come from Brighton, but I'm sure their ancestors were probably sheep farmers near Ilkly). The record is called "Turning Point" and is avaliable now on CD or 10". I'd certainly recommend the 10" vinyl because as everyone knows in this health mad enviroment, vinyl is good for the heart.Right then. I'm off for a nice big fry up with chips and black pudding. The Jakpot - Turning PointThe Jakpot - Frisky Foolhttp://www.thejakpot.co.uk/www.myspace.com/thejakpotmusic

Prinzhorn Dance School
2007-06-20 06:44:00
This is why I get up on a morning, this is why I put milk on my Rice Krispies and this is why I fed the cat three times yesterday. This is the strange effect the debut album from Brightons Prinzhorn Dance School is having on me. From the opening bars of "Black Bunker", a repeated bass line not unlike a Fall intro tape gets us underway and by the time we get to the final track the world has become a better place, actually what happened to me was I just thought sod the world and work and anything else I have to do today, all I'm gonna do is listen to this all over again. I can't tell you much about the band though. They seem to be quite a secretive lot but if they keep on churning out records like this they can walk about with blankets over their heads for all I care. "Prinzhorn Dance School" is released through DFA Records on 13th August.Prinzhorn Dance School - Crackerjack DockerPrinzhorn Dance School - I Do Not Like ChangePrinzhorn Dance School - Lawyers Water Jughttp://www.prinzhor

Von Sudenfed - Tromatic Reflexxions
2007-07-01 02:50:00
It came totally out of the blue. I knew nothing about it's existence or the fact that our lord, the great Mark E Smith had even been dabbling with other projects outside The Fall. I guess this just makes me dumb because everyone else seems well clued up about it. Cast you mind back if you will to 2005 when Mark E Smith teamed up with Mouse On Mars to create the rather snazzy "Wipe The Sound", well Von Sudenfed is Jan and Andy from Mouse On Mars along with our very own Mr Smith. The opening track "Fledermaus Can't Get It" sets the electronic scene and the whole thing just works. I've often thought that Mark E Smith and electronic music go hand in hand and the experiments which The Fall carried out in the early 90's were some of their finest work. Von Sudenfed are going to be playing some dates this summer and are already talking about arranging some studio time for next year to record the second album. This will do just fine till then. The album "Tromatic Reflexxions" is out now and c

Astrobrite - Whitenoisesuperstar
2007-07-06 04:49:00
Yep that's right, Scott Cortez has been at it again. I love it when he slips into his Astrobrite guise. You just know you in for a treat. This then is the latest Astrobrite offering and dissapoint it does not. I don't know about you but I'm a proper sucker for walls of blistering white noise and as the title of this album would suggest, that is exactly what you get. Nice bits of reverb swinging around here and there and some occasional vocal to put the icing on the cake. So it's official then. Scott Cortez is indeed a whitenoise superstar. First of all thanks to all of you who have e-mailed me over the last few weeks enquiring as to what was going on and why there had been no new posts. The reason was that I had decided to pack it in after one of the bands/labels to whom I had given lots of free publicity decided to complain to the BPI and cause me all kinds of problems. Needless to say I was rather pissed off about this...I mean, they didn't even have the decency to simply contact me and ask for th offending files to be removed. The first I knew about it was an e-mail from my web host asking me for a response. Angry does not quite describe it! All I have ever tried to do on here is give bands and artists a little bit of a push i the right direction, to get the music out there so that people might hear it and actually go out and make the purchase. Apparently that is wrong.Ok rant over.Over the last few weeks I've been recieving e-mails from people who actually do appreciate what I am trying to do here and as a result h

Gravenhurst - The Western Lands
2007-09-16 07:54:00
A few weeks ago I took a call from a mate of mine who was a bit on the confused side. As a connoisseur of electronic music he had been looking around as he does for new sounds and stumbled across Gravenhurst. Seeing that the record was on Warp Records he naturally assumed it would contain beats, bleeps and various other scary noises of the highest quality.I answered the phone and a voice spoke in a fashion not dissimilar to how you would if your house was on fire, "...I've got this download from Warp..and....and.....well....it's got like....guitars on it.....and proper....like....instruments and stuff, I think someone has made a terrible mistake!!". After I had picked myself up from the floor and wiped away the tears I said "You've got the Gravenhurst single then. It's true, some people still assume all Warp releases are going to be like they were ten years or so ago. The truth is that music has moved on and so has Sheffield's finest export, Warp Records. Thank heavens the summer is almost over. I must be one of the few people in the UK who actually thinks we have had quite a good summer. Nice and cool. It seems to be making up for it now though and my fan has decided to go on the blink, typical. On the up side though there are just so many good records around at the moment and the pick of the bunch for me this week is the new single from The Courteeners who come from that hotbed of popular culture sometimes called Manchester (depends which football team you support, as a York City fan I don't really have any issues...). The band are currently on tour around the country. Unfortunately alot of the dates are in support of The Coral but I think I'm still going to make the effort to get to the Leeds gig on 13th October. See their My Space page for more details. This month also see's the return of former Delgado, Emma Pollock. Well I thought it was about time the site had a new look. Sweep out the cobwebs and all that. I'm still not convinced about the swirly things but I'm sure they'll grow on me. The thing is I can't seem to get the links list to be in the right hand sidebar. Everytime I enter a link it appears at the bottom of the page which is rather crap, so if any of you know how I can get the links onto the right hand side HELP. I'm just useless at that kind of thing. Ok, this is a bit of an item. There are only 200 apparently and they all come on a cassette, which I have to say is probably the best packaged tape I've ever owned. You can't see it from there but it's beautiful...honest. Someone was telling me that this is not the first cassette thingy that Thurston Moore has done and if there are more out there then I woud love to hear them. There's just something about waves of random guitar noise that gets me going. I rather wish he would do this sort of thing (a) live and (b) somewhere near

A slightly longer playlist this week. There's so much stuff around at the moment it may well get even longer. The main reason though is that I went record shopping last week and got rather carried away, as you do. I seem to have an addiction to 12" singles. Some good shit this week though. I would have played tracks from the Bearsuit album earlier but the truth is I lost it in the chaos which is my house. It turned up on Tuesday at the back of the fridge and ever since I've been trying to remember how the hell it got there! I have a hunch alchohol may have been involved. On another note I'd like to thank all the people who keep sending me e-mails to let me know that Playlist 29 doesn't work. I think this is probably the longest playlist I've ever done, clocking in at around 85 minutes but what can you do when their is so much good shit around. Rossy commented a couple of weeks ago about the amount of reggae in the programs. I just go through stages of record buying and at the moment I'm buying tons of reggae (especially those nice 10" ones) because there is so much about and no-one seems to publicise it these days. It seems to me that unless your a pretty white boy jumping around with a guitar or some kind of commercial dance artist then your going to find it difficult to get the coverage you deserve, although more and more blogs like this one are popping up now which is encouraging. Firstly let me apologise for the lack of a playlist last week. This was because the gods of misfortune had decided to remove my internet access. This is a re-post by popular request, well one person has asked for it anyway and why not because I think these demo's are great. This is The Primitives at their best, around the time of the recording of their first few singles which were bundled together on an album called "Lazy 86-88" at some point but I think that too may take some finding now.
