The Victorian English Gentlemens Club
1970-01-01 00:59:59
I knew this was gonna be a good one. It's always a good sign when you put a record on and the cat runs for cover. With a name like The Victorian English Gentlemens Club you're never quite sure what your going to get but this album is anything but gentlemenly. You know the sort of thing. Noisy jerky guitars, pumping basslines and a singer who sounds as though he could scare the shit out of Mark E. Smith. This is the debut album by the Cardiff three piece and follows up their previous two singles brilliantly fulfilling the promise that this is one band to be scared of. The album will be released through Fantasic Plastic on 28th August and you can be quite sure there will be a track from this on the very next Burning World podcast.www.thevictorianenglishgentlemensclub.co.uk

...thank goodness thats over. I've not got anything against Christmas but why does it seem necessary for people who at any other time of year you would avoid like the plague to meet up for social gatherings and all be polite to each other. You know the type, they stand next to you and because they know you listen to a lot of music they assume thet you must be a huge Dire Straits fan and when you tell them that you would rather boil you feet in a vat of acid then listen to that they look at you as though you should be committed. Bastards, I'd shoot the lot of them if only I had a gun. Anyway enough of my ranting, here's another selection of new and recent tunes without which your I-Pod is quite frankly naked.Playlist 61. ....so what do you think to this jukebox thing on the left hand side of your screen. I hope you like it cos it took Jake ages to do it and I think it's pretty good but let me know what you think. I know I mentioned it last week but if anyone wants to do their own playlist on this site then please get in touch. The only stipulation is that it must be interesting because I can't see the point in putting out a bunch of songs that you can hear just about anywhere, so I think new and exiting is the way to go. This weeks playlist is a bit of a corker, even if I do say so myself....and I do. Hello. I'n Trev. I run the lostmusic blog/ezine. For those not familiar with it - I basically review CDs, Records and MP3s that I like. When I saw Kris asking if anyone wanted to compile a playlist I was instantly tempted. I used to love making mix tapes, then mix CDs - mp3 playlists are the next logical step. And they're just as much fun to make. Thanks to Kris for the oppurtunity to get me back making 'mix tapes' again. Here it is. Santa Dog - Kittyhawk
2007-04-26 08:49:00
I must admit I was getting a bit worried about Santa Dog. It's been a while since we last heard from them but it seems not without good reason. They've been locked inside a studio in Bristol plugging away at their debut album, and here it is. It's called Kittyhawk and it sparkles like a diamond. They seem to have simply carried on from where they left off with last years excellent Belle De Jour E.P. All I need now is for the band to come up and play somewhere in the north of England.Kittyhawk is to be released in June through Japanese label Quince Records and will be preceded by what is been billed as the bands debut single, perfectly true if you don't count the first three E.P.s. "Big Bang/Are You Hot Enough" will be released through SoundsXPerience on 14th May and apparently will be on beautiful 7" vinyl, the best format ever to grace our turntables in my opinion. You can check out a couple of tracks from this fine artifact at the bands Last FM page www.quince-records.comwww.sound

Celestial - Dream On
2007-04-24 10:07:00
Every now and then a record comes along which reminds me why I do this. I was thinking just yesterday that it's been quite a slow month as far as good records are concerned and then without warning the debut album from Celestial appears. I'd heard the earlier E.P.s and stuff so I knew what I was expecting but what I got was not far from indiepop perfection. Celestial is basically just one guy called Andreas Hagman, who as the name might suggest hails from that current hotbed of indie cuteness, Sweden. I have been deliberately avoiding Swedish bands on Burning World over the last year or so because as exellent as many of them are they do get loads of coverage elseware, and quite rightly so. This record though is so good that I would have to remove my eyebrows with an electric sander if I didn't give it it's dues. Listen I can't big this up enough so I'm just gonna shut up and let you download the two tracks below.Celestial - Brighton GirlsCelestial - Nothing Happens TwiceThe album
