Another Childhood Memory Ruined
2007-01-18 10:31:26
flangracneig pgoramian Over the weekend, I headed to Maplin and made a few impulse purchases. One of which was this beauty. This is my new PC controller. Basically, I’m sick of playing my old school arcade games with a keyboard, so I thought I’d go for this orgasm with a USB cable. I feel I must explain at this point, emulation takes a whole new level with a joypad. Without it emulation is a mild diversion, to relive past days. With one it becomes serious nostalgia fun. I’ll be honest, I haven’t been excited about video games for about 10 years, I am now. I mentioned in my last post that I played Super Metroid for ages. Well, I also played (and completed) Streets of Rage 2. This is not just a one night thing, I’ve been trying to find games from my childhood, and then play them. One such game was a fighting game me and my mate played when we were kids. It was like a space fighting game in the style of Street Fighter 2, and we loved it. One thing was that I

Winter Blues
2007-01-17 12:15:58
flangracneig pgoramian Is it me, or is everybody miserable around this time of year? It’s that lull, between New Years Day and March that is just like nothing happens. It’s cold, it’s wet, it’s windy. It’s dark when I leave work, it’s dark when I leave in the morning. Last night I did nothing worthwhile, instead just sat on my bed playing Super Metroid. Yes, it is one of the greatest games ever produced, but I’ve completed it so many times it felt like a chore (though apparently something verging on SNES porn happens when you complete it in under 2 hours, so that would be my last and only goal). Either way, I’m in a bit of a creative lull at the moment, blogging may be sparodic and pointless over the next few days. How do you get over it? More to the point, what’s actually good about January?

GATR Fantasy 6 Nations!
2007-01-16 11:28:25
flangracneig pgoramian It’s not just football I like, Rugby too is a proper game. And like all proper games, there is a “Fantasy” Game with it. So, like the football, I’ve set up a Fantasy 6 Nations Game. The Six Nations Tournament is, every year in Feburary - England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, France and Italy play each other in rugby. Usually Wales takes the attitude of “As long as we beat the English”, but since that glorious day in Cardiff two years ago where we won the Grand Slam, we must be outside shots at the victory. With that in mind, and out of sheer boredom, I’ve set up a “Fantasy 6 Nations” Tournament (similar to the Fantasy Football), to find out who knows the most about rugby (probably Rick), and for a bit of fun/friendly banter. So how do you get a team? Well, read on! 1. Visit http://metro.fantasy6nations.co.uk/, register and activate your account. 2. Choose a team name (my is horribly cruel), and pick your team. Yo

Spam, Spam, Bush & Spam
2007-01-15 10:54:27
flangracneig pgoramian One problem about being Wales’ favourite blogger is that, should I ever get Dugg or Buzzed to buggery is that this blog will become the target of some of the more unsavoury characters on the internet. No I’m not talking about Guy, I’m talking about spam bots. I woke up this morning to check my emails as well as my Askimet spam blocker. Akismet is the world’s most difficult  Wordpress plugin to spell. Aksimet is primarily designed to stop spam bots from hawking their wares in your comments. Of course, it isn’t fool proof, as a few comments of genuinely official bloggers have been labelled as spam, so I always get around to check it. Here is what greeted me this morning. Fucks sake. Half way down, I saw this. Now, Bush happens to be the nickname of a friend of mine. I doubt it’s him, but by god I had to do a bit of investigating (a bit meaning read the 2nd line of the comment). I know it’s quiet on the Isle of Man, but b

Chelsea, Wigan, and why I'm Dangerous Drunk.
2007-01-14 18:22:45
flangracneig pgoramian First of all, thanks for all the kind comments regarding the hidden post. We sat down and sorted out any tension there was between said person and myself. Out of respect for this person, the password won’t be given out to anybody else. Onto happier matters, yesterday I made the short trip to Llanelian Road, to watch Colwyn Bay vs. Buxton. Buxton were top of the league, and The Mighty Seagulls haven’t won in 8. Was there going to be a demoloshing? Not exactly. In conditions that Ray Mears would find challenging, Colwyn Bay scored a goal in either half. What was impressive was our second half performance, playing against the wind, against a team that have only lost 3 times all season. I’ll probably get pneumonia in the next few days, but by god I went home happy - if quite tipsy. One person who won’t be happy will be Mark Lawrenson, who’s 2-0 prediction of the Chelsea Wigan game was unsuprisingly wrong. Chelsea won the game, but they

Lawro's Predictions? Predictable
2007-01-13 10:27:28
flangracneig pgoramian This annoyed me greatly this morning. For the unaware, this is the latest of Lawro’s predictions, a weekly column where Lawro (Mark Lawrwnson) predicts the Premiership score and results. He varies on week to week but the last 7 Chelsea predictions he has predicted a 2-0 win for the Blues (even against Macclesfield, a team who are 90 places below Chelsea in the league). The last 7 predictions he has been wrong. Sometimes Chelsea have won, sometimes they haven’t, but the last time he got the correct result and score was 8 games ago, where ironically he predicted a 1-1 draw for Chelsea against Man United, which came to fruition. In other news, please don’t go on Han’s blog, she’s embarrassed me by filming me undercover! Boo! Boo her! Technorati Tags:football, bbc, mark lawrenson Generated By Technorati Tag Generator

I Want To Fade Away - Prologue

flangracneig pgoramian I’m so open on here, I never lie about who I am, and everybody I know in real life knows this place. Why lie to your friends or your family. But there’s times where I wish I could talk anonymously about stuff. Today is one of those days. Hence why I’ve password protected the previous post. If you want to read it, leave a comment, and I’ll send you the password.

The iPhone Sweepstakes
2007-01-12 12:12:38
flangracneig pgoramian On Monday, Apple announced the long awaited iPhone , arguably the sexiest piece of equipment ever. It’s a phone, it’s an iPod, it’s everything rolled into one. Apparently. But, from Monday’s launch, one thing that appealed to my hormones. I want it, I would lie to my own mother to get one. I mean, just look at it! It’s all curvy, sleek and sexy. However, it’s also an Apple. At the risk of Han dumping me, Apple have made a history of fundamental design flaws. The fact the mouse only has one button drives, me, insane. So, with that in mind, I’m starting “The iPhone Sweepstakes ”. In the comment box, leave what you believe will be the fundamental design flaw with the iPhone. I know Guy said something last night that “texting could be dodgy”, so - unless he wants to change it - that’ll be his. If you need inspiration, have a gander at Tech Digest’s “10 Tricks to Play on your iPhoneR

WP-Buzzer, My First Wordpress Plugin
2007-01-12 00:59:49
flangracneig pgoramian Han has been going on recently about Blogg-Buzz, a “Digg for Blogs”, as it were. It is just starting off, and Han and myself have submitted a few articles for it, it seems to be getting a little bit of traffic. I thought, as Han was fondueing herself to death tonight, that I’d write a Wordpress plugin to aid the submission of articles to Blogg Buzz. And, half an hour later, WP-Buzzer was born! It’s a very simple plugin that integrates (visually) with the WP-Notable plugin. It adds either an image button or a text link underneath your posts, so that one click submission to Blogg-Buzz is achievable. This setting can be changed in the Plugin -Editor. Installation Instructions Download and extract this file: wp-buzzer.zip, the directory structure is automatically created. Upload the wp-buzzer directory (and it’s contents) to wp-content/plugins directory of your Wordpress installation. Go to the Plugin Menu, and activate wp-buzzer (unless

If You Go Down To The Woods Today….
2007-01-19 09:11:08
flangracneig pgoramian A couple of posts ago, I mentioned that I was a bit uninspired at the moment, in a creative lull, and I thought it was due to the weather. Well, the weather made it up by giving me something to blog about on the walk to work yesterday morning. Holy. Shit. Yes, the storms we are having at the moment took down one of the trees in the woods I walk through every day. Ironically, Swallowed In The Sea, had just kicked in on my MP3 player, and Chris Martin began singing. You cut me down a tree, and brought it back to me. Cheers Chris, you utter cunt. Anyhoo, there was two courses of action. Ring work, say I’m going to be late, walk back home then walk or get a lift to work off me mum Struggle through the steep, unchartered woods off the beaten track to drop down onto the road. Unfortunately, I was in an area with no mobile phone signal, so instead I took option 2. I was kinda happy that the I would test my bush skills, and I’d be lying if I said my firs

My Brother, The Mathmetician & Grave Balls Out Peril
2007-01-19 20:29:01
flangracneig pgoramian Like a few other bloggers, power yesterday evening was a little sparodic at best. I used the time sans le Interweb to text Han, talking to the family, annoying the dog and getting a little merry. The power came on at around 10, and I went back onto the internet. Disaster! There was one casualty of the powercut - my ace mouse, which refused to work. Boo hoo. After ushering my decrepid Sony mouse out of retirement, I was ready once again to connect to the internet. With Han already in bed and Guy presumably chatting up ’stralians. I was limited to who I wanted to speak to. I chose Rick - maths geek, Liverpool fan, and my dear brother. This was a conversation between me and my brother. He’s a maths geek, and I did something I rarely do: outsmart him. The names have been changed for ease of reading. My name originally was “That’s just how I like them - Milky & White!” (a quote originally from this video - may not be safe for work),

Colwyn Bay FC, Sky Sports News & Why I'm the Most Influential Blogger On The Planet
2007-01-20 11:44:59
flangracneig pgoramian Football Post Time! Right, for the 3 of you that are left, it has been a fairly exciting week in terms of football, especially for The Mighty Seagulls. Our manager - Peter Davenport - left us to join Southport. This was actually big news on a slow day, being at 4th biggest story on the BBC site, and even a bit on Sky Sports News. How terribly exciting! Even though there was no mention of The Mighty Seagulls on Sky Sports News, it’s like we don’t exist. Boo them! However, after a turbulent week, the club seems relaxed and more focussed. We’ll do just fine methinks, Dav had some nice things to say about us, and we have loyal fans who produce quality videos such as this (credit to JuniorMan and his team for that video). Come on the Bay, who are playing Goole. Yes, I have trouble spelling it because it’s close to Google. I’m such a geek. Finally, it’s another week of Lawro’s Predictions! As previously stated, he was Double W

Trip to Llangeryw
2007-01-21 17:39:32
flangracneig pgoramian Today, we had our unofficial family Christmas do, “Come to The Stag”, said mum, “You’d love it there, and Llangeryw is really pretty!”. “Fair enough” I thought, with the prospect of a free roast dinner (”Try the beef, it’s gorgeous” said my mate last night) on the cards, I packed up the camera, and went to take some photos of the glorious Welsh countryside. Here they are, with humourous comments. This pretty much is Llangernyw, a pub, a bus stop, a corner shop and a church Llangeryw Bus Stop, which is made out of slate, which I think looks quite pretty. Go on, pronounce those names! This is apparently the oldest living thing in Wales, a Yew tree that’s over 4000 years old… Yes, the Yew tree is sponsored by Esso. I didn’t understand it, and probably never will….. More photos are available on my Flickr Set. All in all, it was a good day out - the meal was nice, and the beer was

My New Webcam
2007-01-22 09:06:02
flangracneig pgoramian I’ve been thinking of the best way to tell you about my new webcam, which arrived on Saturday. I thought I’d let it do the talking, but I can’t get the microphone on it to work. So this was the best I can muster. RSS readers: please visit The Gospel According To Rhys to see what the fuss is about! Two things about video blogging: When I get nervous, I talk with my eyes closed and talk out of the side of my mouth That was around take 6 - which was better than I expected, though I did concentrate hard. My arm was hurting (hence the shoddy camerawork). But yeah, it’s rather odd thing to have on a camera. What do you think? Also, more videoposts? Less videoposts? Better hair? Speak up people! Update: Couple more thoughts:- A comment on the Youtube Page suggested (rather mockingly) that it’s “To stop a trojan from being installed”. Of course, it’s not entirely flawless - what if you’re speakers are off - but t

My Favourite Firefox Extensions & A Dilemma
2007-01-23 09:11:53
flangracneig pgoramian Hey everybody! I’m having a dilemma at the moment regarding posting. You see, there has been something that has happened recently which I find hilarious, but it talks about something that a lot of people get in a huff over, and in these politically correct times I’m umming and ahhing posting it. I think I’m being a big girls blouse really, but I’m not like Guy, I don’t like pissing people off with my blog. I had a close shave with the Beeb once that we won’t mention here, but legal action and making grown men cry is not part of my blog’s forte. It’s just not nice. Whilst I’m confident that the post that I’m thinking of won’t anger people and get me placed under a fatwa (I’m pretty sure, should I decide to post it, people will say “that’s…..it?!?!?”), I’m not 100% happy with it, and will probably go under a re-edit a couple of times. As such, today I was going to

New Hair!
2007-01-24 09:15:47
flangracneig pgoramian I’ve been long overdue a haircut, so I decided to get one yesterday. I wasn’t planning one - as Han loves the long hair, but the worst case of hat hair ever made me get one. It was so bad, that on the way to get it cut yesterday, I got asked by a girl with a thick posh Cheshire accent if I was “tired of being on the dole and wanted to earn my own money for independence”. Listen love, if you’re reading this: I may dress scruffy for work (our clothing policy is very casual, and the only jumper I had was a Kangol hoodie), but I’m probably on more money than you, even after commission. Come to think of it, I don’t blame her. Ever seen a chav with a well kept barnet? In other news, I got an email from somebody working for a University in Singapore. Usually I don’t promote random people’s stuff, but for a university I shall. It’s a survey about blogging for some research project. It seems harmless enough, and

Thou Shalt Not Steal
2007-01-25 10:30:18
flangracneig pgoramian I’ve been debating about blogging this for a while, but I will. This is my reasoning. The argument against is that, well, it’s a bit religious. I’m not religious myself (well, I’m Agnostic. Largely because I like the theory behind it, and it’s a bit different from Atheism. It kinda covers a number of bases too), but I have no problem with religion. If you believe in something fine, just as long as we all get along, that’s cool. I fear that this post could’ve had offended some people’s believes. It is not intended to, but if it does, I’m sorry. The argument for is that, well, I find it funny. This won it over. Firstly, a bit of geekery. I have an RSS feed associated with this blog. It is for those of you who really can’t be arsed coming to this site. This is a good thing, as I’d rather you read about this via RSS than not at all, plus you never miss one of my fantastic posts. There is a bad side to

Final Word and The Weekend
2007-01-26 12:47:44
flangracneig pgoramian Final word on yesterday’s post. I guess I was scared in pissing off people. There’s been hundreds of cases in the UK at the moment whereby people are screaming racial abuse or having laws going against their beliefs. I swore I wasn’t going to tiptoe around a subject just because it may offend somebody, but I did yesterday, and I think that I did myself more harm than good. Instead of just posting it and be done with it, I built it up to be more controversial than Rockstar Games. Instead of people saying “ooh, that was funny!”, I was getting “oh, you’re worrying over nothing”. I deserve it. I should’ve just publish it and be damned as I believe that maybe if we all lightened up and didn’t take such petty issues to heart, maybe we’d all be in a better place. Right, nasty unplesentaries out the way, onto some good stuff (for me). I’m going to Liverpool tomorrow to catch up with Guy and a few oth

Bloggies
2007-01-27 11:29:50
flangracneig pgoramian Yes, I know I wasn’t going to blog on my weekend, especially with such a large hangover as I have now (seriously, it’s death), but I feel I must comment on something. The bloggies are out, and I must say I’m kinda disappointed with the line up. Not because I’m not there, just because it just seems all rather the same old blogs. Sure, the UK bloggers have proven once again that we produce the best damn bloggers on the face of the earth, but I just can’t help that some of the other categories you can list the nominations before they’re announced. Best American blog, for example. It’s like Annie Lennox, who always gets nominated in the Brits. However, the Best American blog category is like five Annie Lennoxes (Lennoxi?). Nobody wants that. Vote for whoever, as long as Problogger, Lifehacker and Arseblog are there. Oh, and if Blogger wins “Best Blogging Application” again, I’ll riot. Technorati Tags:2007,

Back From The "Pool With An Important Question

flangracneig pgoramian Fucks sake, I go away for 2 days, and this is what greets me. 98 unread posts from all you lot! It’s not something you want to see with a hangover like mine. Truth be told, I had an awesome weekend. Lots of alcohol was drank, and some of the funniest things were said. However, that will be for a time when I get the stuff off my camera, and speak to Z and Guy about it (I don’t want to miss out on anything hilarious. Now I’m going for a lie down in front of Top Gear (which I suggest you all do too), and I’ll leave you with this question. Carol Vorderman - yay or nay?

Ill - (okay, "Not Well")
2007-01-29 15:09:50
flangracneig pgoramian Hey everybody. I am currently ill at the moment: I’ve got a horrible pain in the left hip/kidney which is making me very irritable. All I want to do is curl up on the sofa and watch The Royal Rumble, instead I’ve got a list of things to do which I really cannot be arsed to do. As such, blogging is suspended whilst I convince myself I’m not dying, and I allow myself to become a functional member of society again. In the meantime, watch this video of Colwyn Bay FC vs. Chorley, from last Saturday. Back soon. Send me balti pies and bovril.

Weekend In Liverpool
2007-01-30 22:28:20
flangracneig pgoramian It took me an extra day, but I’m braving my illness (it’s still sore, but not unbearable. I have got a Doctor’s appointment booked in a few days should I still feel blearugh) to blog about my weekend with Guy (who didn’t mention me on his post, the cunt) and Z in Liverpool . I’ll be honest, my illness has meant that I can’t remember large parts of the weekend (or was that the alcohol) but here are some of the highlights. The first night, we all got rather drunk and silly. At one point, I spoke to one of Guy’s exes (who told me that “I didn’t speak welsh because she didn’t understand what I said.”. She couldn’t speak Welsh either). So Guy didn’t feel left out, he spoke to Han to ask her that if “he slept with me, would that be consider cheating?”. What do you think readers? Guy’s drunken embarrassment continued by gambling, falling over in the bar, and doing the most da

One Month's of Wordpress
2007-01-31 22:06:02
flangracneig pgoramian A month ago, I switched to Wordpress from Blogger after they announced that I be shoved into the new “Blogger Beta”. I was not happy, so I switched. Since that glorious day on January 1st, I have joined the “Good Side” of the blogging world, and - this blog has grown more with it. Here’s why: More Posts Seriously guys. I’ve blogged every day in January. Even a trip to Liverpool and my current injury (status: it has been upgraded from a “illness” to an “injury”. I think I’ve just done my back in, it’s sore - and a weekend on sleeping on Hannah’s floor may not be the best course of action, but we shall see) have not stopped me. I care….. More Comments ….as do you! In the last month, I have received 371 comments. That is easily more I’ve received in any month, ever. A large number of posts hit double figures. Maybe it’s because half the posts turn into discussions,

The Secret To Increasing Relevant Blog Traffic
2007-02-01 23:13:02
flangracneig pgoramian From the most unlikely of sources: Open Source Campaigner, Comment Addict, and all round sexybeast Han. On Skype, whilst discussing Fern’s blog: “You do realise Rhys, that Fern’s most succesful post, in terms of comments, is the one where she got her boobs out?” “Yes.” **sighs** “Rightyho….” Bless her, she got all excited this afternoon after Text Link Ads paid her money. And it was more than me. And my money went on her Valentine’s Present. In other news: the the most anticipated interview since Post-Crash Richard Hammond on Johnathan Ross has be published. Yes! The Ratemyblog.co.uk interview with me, whereby I talk about my experiences from my “Only 4 Years” (Han’s words) blogging. Fix0r'd! The Proposal of a Pain Scale
2007-02-02 13:26:03
flangracneig pgoramian You could probably tell by the nature of the last post that I’m almost completely over my injury. It’s a strange one, and I’m glad to see the back of it. There was one song that got me through the early part of the week: it’s meaningful lyrics mixed with it’s bouncy poppy tune struck a chord with me. I was tempted to do an emo “This song is how I feel” lyrics post, but there was one fundamental part of Meridith Brooks’ “Bitch” that obviously doesn’t relate to yours truly. Whilst I was at the pinnacle of my pain, I set myself a challenge: define “pain”. Seriously, all of us probably have different levels of pain tolerances (I for one think I’m very high. I do moan about it, but I rarely take any pain medication), so how do we know when we are in unbearable pain, that we should go to the doctors, for example? He’d could just laugh at us. I mean, what’s a dull pain? Dull

A Weekend In Canterbury: Unmoral Han
2007-02-05 12:07:36
flangracneig pgoramian Right, now we’ve got that miserable business of revenge out of the way, and that unfortunate rugby result and the fact that Richard Branson is a cunt for making the train 55 minutes late (it was really 60 minutes late, but 60 minutes means they have to give a refund) I’d like to tell you about the fabulous weekend I had. Friday night was spent curled up watching TV with a Dominos, and the real fun began on the Saturday, where we took a trip into Canterbury, because I wanted a coat to go with my trendy manscarf, and Han wanted something that I’ve never known her want. A Microsoft product. I know! It’s like me becoming a Rhyl fan (which Han has just humourously pronounced as “Rile”), she must feel so dirty. Not one to stand in front of her dreams, I resigned myself to the fate that she will purchase said Microsoft product, as long as photographic evidence was taken to shame her. A disgrace, I tell thee! I also showed Han my cu

My 23rd Birthday, Journey Back, Photography & Mates Blogs
2007-02-05 22:53:49
flangracneig pgoramian One ace point about my weekend that I failed to mention was that major steps for the planning of my 23rd birthday went underway! On the 4th of next month I turn 23 (which, that thought alone, is very, very scary). Me and Han booked a hotel in the West London for dirt cheap. From the images, it looks like we got a steal: it looks very, very pretty. But we shall see, won’t we when we arrive. With that said, me and Han are planning on doing the one thing we were planning on doing before we got…ahem…’distracted’: going out in London. Neither of us are major heavy drinkers, and would much rather find a nice pub rather than go dancing. Well, Han would prefer dancing, but fuck it, it’s my fucking birthday, and if I want to sit in a pub/bar in Covent Garden, drinking real ale, then I shall. However, I am open to suggestions. Where should I go to get fairly merry on Saturday 3rd March? The one thing I am dreading about my actual birthda

Back In Black
2007-02-07 09:36:41
flangracneig pgoramian As a child, I wore black almost constantly. It was a shy kid growing up, and I’d always try to fit in with “Turtles”, “Transformers” or whatever on my clothes. As time grow on, it changed to more geeky clothing such as Super Mario, Sonic or Street Fighter. Then, when I entered high school, it changed to just plain clothes which were just black. It stayed that way until the first year of University. My expanding waistline due to the stupid amount of alcohol I was consuming meant that I was wearing black for the “I’m fat” reasons, as opposed to the “black is cool”. The fact that I looked like a total eclipse coupled with the rise of the goth culture meant that black did not suit me. I switched to navy blue, then slowly progressed through all sorts of colours to present day. Now, after a couple of purchases during the Liverpool weekend and a new jacket this weekend, the amount of plain black clothes I own
