Dentists, The NHS and Teeth Problems
2007-03-13 08:59:42
flangracneig pgoramian It would be fair to say that last week was not a good week. On top of all that has previously been mentioned, I had to go to the dentist. I was actually looking forward to it to be honest, I had extensive dental work done about 3 months back, so thought “hmmm…how can much damage can I do to my teeth in 3 months?”. Turns out quite a lot. The tooth in question was the same one I had root canal treatment on 3 months ago. It has become brittle, because it’s been played with so much. The solution? A crown. Which, on the NHS, is £177.00. Ouch, that left a bad taste in my mouth, and I winced when the Dentist said. The thing I am pissed off with is that I had already paid £40 for the treatment so far. I’m pretty sure that if they said “Hey, this tooth is probably going to go brittle, so we’ll stick a crown on it”, it would’ve saved me 40 notes. I’m not too happy that it is classed as a separate treatment. The

Digg, My Blog and Other Websites Visualization
2007-03-14 08:19:46
flangracneig pgoramian This lovely picture above is a visualisation of the website Digg , done by Drivl.com, anyway, it got me thinking. What would a visualisation of this site look like? I mean, would it be considered “human”, and look like me? Or would the website creature be an amorphous blob like Digg, and pick up on a characteristic of this website. What about other websites like Han’s (who’s link to Drivl.com inspired this post), Guy’s, Celeste’s, Ryan’s or Paddy’s? What about bigger websites like Flickr and/or Youtube? So, this got me an idea. Visualise a website, and draw it. It can be as crap or as detailed as you want. Take a photo of it and email it to me, and I’ll post them up this time next week. Also, I’ll post a few of mine up. I can’t draw, so they don’t have to be good. Just little visualizations of websites you like. You’ll also get a nice little plug from me too. So, what you waiting for?

The Ultimate Warrior, Call Centres and Website Visualization
2007-03-15 08:50:31
flangracneig pgoramian Yesterday, I had a bit of a down day. First of all, the new purchase that shall not be mentioned until I get it (don’t want to jinx it) was reported to take 1 to 2 months to arrive, as opposed to 1 to 2 weeks. This was my fault - the website I ordered it off was in German, and I can’t speak a bloody word of it. Nevertheless I canceled my order, went on ebay, found what I was looking for, and paid for it via paypal. Twice. I’m not entirely sure what happened, but £400 has gone out of my account (as opposed to £200). I’ll be honest I do whatever I usually do when something like this happened - panicked. I panicked for 2 long hours as I tried to get through to somebody to speak to in the UK Paypal call centre, traversing menu systems that are harder to navigate than Ziggurat Vertigo level on Quake 1 (tip, if you ever need to speak to somebody at the UK Paypal Call Centre, the quickest way is press 1, then press 4). I’ll be honest, he

Comic Relief 2007 - My Thoughts
2007-03-17 08:56:53
flangracneig pgoramian There are two things that are not as exciting when you’re older as when you were little: Comic Relief and Christmas. Yes, last night was Comic Relief , a bi-annual (someone will shout at me if it’s not the right word) event which have celebrities doing funny stuff for 7 hours in the name of raising money for some worthwhile causes. I’ve been a bit confused about whether I was sure I liked it or hated it. I wasn’t a big fan of Live 8 - thought the whole thing was just massaging Bono’s hypocritical ego. Lenny Henry just seems to be a lot more committed to the cause - he just doesn’t seem to do owt else. In the same respect I do think they do it too often, and I believe in “charity begins at home”. I also believe there are too many charity drives, and I’m not sure how many of them are truly successful. You kind of get desensitized to them (that being said, as I write this, I saw a video for Malaria in Tanzania, an

Happy Mothers Day, Mum
2007-03-18 13:37:00
flangracneig pgoramian Reason #348 for why I love my mum is that she told me that “If I got her a card for mothers day, that she would probably rip it up and vomit from it’s corporate feigned cutseyness”. I quite agree, not because I’ll never get a Mothers Day card, but it is too commercial - the fact that I saw a “Happy Mothers Day To My Girlfriend” Card this week kind of shows the commercialism involved with this day. The pubs are probably raking it in though with set menus. So, in that effect, I feel no guilt for my hangover due to an ace day of sport yesterday with Wales beating the English, and Ireland beating Pakistan in the Cricket. Only a dodgy away result for Colwyn Bay against a 13 man team that nobody likes marred the day. But yes, I am hungover after St Paddy’s, as is Han (which is so amusing), as are my two brothers. But today I feel I should get into the spirit of things by wishing my mum a happy mother’s day. She is probabl

What To Do With My Adsense Cheque?
2007-03-19 10:17:05
flangracneig pgoramian I woke up stupidly early on Saturday by the postman, who dropped a hefty wad of letters through our door. Alas, the wad didn’t include “The Thing That I Am Expecting”™, but it did include a very nice surprise. Click To Enlarge Yes, it’s a nice little Google Adsense cheque for a shade under £60. It’s not a huge amount of money, but it’s something. It’s taken me two years, but really it’s been the last 3-4 months which have seen a huge upturn in clicks. I’m already halfway to the next payout, so it should be soon. The question is, what should I do with my new found wealth? It’s not enough to change the world with, but I feel I should do something worthwhile with my money, rather than spend it on my usual choice of blackjack and hookers. Should I invest it? If so, where? With that in mind, I’m taking a leaf out of Ryan’s book (who sent me his visualisations of this site and Han’s sit

If Driving Games Were Real…
2007-03-20 10:03:55
flangracneig pgoramian Another fact finding survey has been released on the BBC. This study interviewed 1000 and said that “Video Games can Make Bad Drivers“. Once again, video games are seen as evil, this time encouraging drivers to become more aggressive on the road. So, with that is true, if real life were like driving games, here’s what it’d be like. It becomes physically impossible to flip your car, largely because your car is glued to the road (Gran Tourismo) or it will always land the right way up (Daytona USA). Or if your car is flipped, wait a second before it rights itself (Destruction Derby). Supercars will be unique, and you can only own them if you beat them in a race. This is nigh on impossible, unless you get in front of it and just block him into places (Ridge Racer) There are only two types of crashes you can have. Minor and Major. Minor will involve the car spinning 1080 degrees before allowing you to continue on your journey. Major will invol

flangracneig pgoramian I’ve talked a lot about the “Website Visualization Gallery ”, and I wasn’t sure how successful it would be. Shutdown Day - 24th March 2007
2007-03-23 09:07:04
flangracneig pgoramian Could you survive 24 hours without a computer? Shutdown Day is a day whereby people shut down their computers for 24 hours, for no other reason “just to see if they can”. I just fancy doing it, it’s a Saturday. 24 hours without a computer. By the way, the Wii doesn’t count (it’s a games console). But I won’t use the internet channel. If you have my Wii number, or my phone, check on me at around 8pm, I may be going delirious. I will be blogging my day on Saturday, but using an old notepad. I should have a night out, and Colwyn Bay vs. Bridlington to keep me occupied. So, over to you, could you live 24 hours without a computer? Are you taking part? Whoopsii, I’ve bought a Wii
2007-03-22 09:03:40
flangracneig pgoramian Whoops, look what I’ve bought myself off ebay. Yes, a Nintendo Wii , words cannot express just how good of a little machine it is. Well, they probably can, but I’m having so much fun with it I can barely tear myself away from it. It is the most fun I’ve had both sober and with my clothes on, and I have rediscovered why I love video games so much. I do however have some advice for people who are wanting one: Don’t expect to play it straight away. Once set up (which took about a good 20 minutes) it spent about 45 minutes updating it’s firmware. Of course, I expect it to be shorter next time, but for everybody buying anew it could be longer. Of course, I was on a 512k network, so it probably was slow, but if you’re buying a Wii for a littleun’s christmas/birthday, take time to set it up the night before, otherwise there could be trouble. A Second Wiimote is vital. Me and my brother can’t exactly play tennis or boxing

I Did It!

flangracneig pgoramian Yes. Suprising even myself, I managed 24 hours without turning on my computer or using the internet. I completed Shutdown Day. I’ll be honest, it was tough. As I had to contend with:- My mum being completely inept at using the internet, and wanting me to download a (rather important, to be honest) form. I felt I couldn’t tell her explicitly about shutdown day, so I just convinced her that there’d be no point filling in the important form, I’m busy today, so I’ll sort it out tomorrow…err…today. My best mate buggering off to the other side of the world today, so I wouldn’t catch up with him on MSN before he went. So I rang him last night, and he said he’s not leaving until 10:15pm tomorrow. So that worked out okay. Not knowing the Wales or Scotland score in the football. So, as you can imagine, it was pretty tough. I knew I had to keep myself busy otherwise I would’ve slipped. I Just Don’t Know What To Do With Myself
2007-03-27 08:49:32
flangracneig pgoramian A lot has happened in 24 hours. Guy has traveled to the other side of the world, Rick - my brother - has got onto a graduate training scheme for the accountancy firm of a huge bank, and another couple of my mates have announced that they’re upping sticks to go to another part of the country, as one of them has also got onto a graduate scheme. And that leaves me. I’ve had a lot of time to look into my heart, and think about things. If I am to be completely, brutally honest about around here, I’m not 100% happy. It is just a realization that, in a years time, I could probably count the people who I go out for a drink with on one hand, and still have 2 or 3 fingers left over. Anybody who knows me knows that this isn’t me. During my time at Eirias we could easily drag out 10-15 people on the lash with us, and on a good day there’d be upwards of 20 people. The same was true in the second and third year of university. Second year drinkatho

Wii’s Virtual Console - The Legend of Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link
2007-03-26 10:12:07
flangracneig pgoramian As a way to keep myself entertained during Shutdown Day, I did download some games from the Wii ’s Virtual Console feature. Yes, I do realise that technically it’s going online, but I really don’t care too much. In the traditional “Checking e-mails, forums, feeds and Adsense”, the stuff I’d normally do, I didn’t. Anyway, I downloaded The Legend of Zelda II - The Adventure of Link. I’ll be honest, I had it as a kid, and I quite liked it. As a full grown adult, I’m not sure. It isn’t bad, and it has occupied me when Wii Sports and Wii Play are not required (usually when I’m alone, late at night, and I cannot be arsed jumping around the room). But at times it is the most frustrating game ever. The fact the game has only one restart point - the main castle, so whenever you die you end up there. There is one little known fact about the game. It is the first form of prostitution ever in a video game. Basi

They are in Sydney. They are drunk. Ish Fuck sake. They’re over 10,000 miles away, and they are still waking me up with their drunken exploits, for christ sakes! Credit Card Call Centre’s Are Satan’s Workshop (plus an Interview)

flangracneig pgoramian Me and my mum got home from work yesterday soon after 5pm last night. I was in a horrible mood, and my mum was in worse. The phone rang five minutes later, an American answered. “Is Mrs. Wine there?” Uh oh. Call centre. Now, I used to work in a call centre, and I don’t believe in being rude in them, as so many countless times people were rude to me. It achieves nothing, as often the people on the phone only dictate to you what hair brained branded product or scheme they want to try to peddle to you. This takes the cake, which my mum said to me after getting off the phone. “Hi! Mrs Wine Ma’am, we believe you recently signed up for our credit card!” “Yes, I did.” “Well, we noticed after processing your details, we’re not allowed to contact you for marketing calls.” “That’s correct.” “Well, you see we think you would benefit from hearing about our other great products and serv

flangracneig pgoramian It’s 9:47 in the morning, and I swear to god I’m still drunk from last night. It’s not good, I had rather a lot to drink last night, and I am just waiting for the hangover to kick in. Alas, I have so much to do today and tonight (I still haven’t got my mum a birthday present, and it’s on Monday, SHIT!), so this blog is going to have to suffer, with a lazy entry. I’m sorry. Firstly, there’s still hundreds (well, 13) left to answer from the Weblog Translation Quiz, so in a bid to encourage completion, it’s now open to 3 per person (so those who’ve already guessed can answer two more). Oh How (Some of Us) Laughed

flangracneig pgoramian In case you missed it yesterday, here was yesterday’s April Fool’s. Gospel According To Rhys from Wikipedia I’m rather proud of it. Simple. Effective. Confused some people. When people realised that it was fake they said. Oh, that is good. But the best thing was that it was controversial. Last year I got the ire of the BBC for keeping my April Fools up. This year I pissed off Rhyl for picking on them. It’s an April Fools Gag guys! Lighten up! One thing I was a bit annoyed with was that how quick Technorati picked up on the change of my blog name, thinking my blog was called “Rhys Wynne - Wikipedia, the Free Encyclopedia”. Seriously, it was bloody quick. All in all, I’m happy, why? Because I sneaked in some information into the April fool, to be used on a post! Right, on my Wikipedia article, there are 10 facts under Trivia. Some are true, some are false. Guess which is which? As I said, blogging will be a bit of a chor

flangracneig pgoramian Long time readers of my blog know that during my singledom days at Liverpool University I had a thing for Lucy Pinder - a UK glamour model that rather famously never showed herself fully in the buff. She was quite popular with my good self, as she appeared to be both stunningly beautiful (What? I do have a thing for brunettes with big boobs, mentioning no names), so - when I found a link to a gallery of her topless on Gorillamask.net, I thought - out of curiosity - I’d check it out. Should Lucy be reading this, don’t take this the wrong way, but I was disappointed. I dunno why it was but they were just…..boobs. Nice boobs, but I kinda felt that I’ve seen them all before. At first I was worried that I was actually turning gay, but then I thought “No! Lots of men don’t ‘read’ these magazines, and they turned out okay.”, Guy for example used to send me texts saying “have you bought this week’s Zoo? I

2007-04-03 10:06:38
flangracneig pgoramian Yesterday, I had a short day in work, as I was taking my mum to the Rhos Fynach in Rhos on Sea, a lovely little pub and restaurant with a bloody hard quiz on a Tuesday night.
