Back then, there weren't a lot of resources for stay at home moms to meet each other and start things like playgroups. As soon as those letters to Santa start getting drawn up, we know we haven't got a chance. Ponies, Xbox, Plasma TVs, whatever big ticket item that the kids want, we can never get, so how do we teach them about this? How can this be a learning experience? The best defense is to start with your kids early on, by 3 or 4, they are ready to start understanding money and costs, but even if you are starting later, all kids can benefit from an understanding of finance and money.Most kids will understand money better if they have some of there own. Debt Free Holidays 2007-12-05 13:09:00 Between Thanksgiving and January 1st, Americans rack up 121 billion in credit card debt, don't be one of the people adding to that total this year. Pick a number and stick with it. Figure out a total dollar amount you can comfortably spend on all the gifts on your list, this number should be an amount of cash that you have on hand, and stick to that number. I usually suggest using your credit card or running your debit card as credit because of all the protection the issuing bank provides (see my posts on this here).However, if you have had problems with sticking to a budget or paying off your credit cards in that past, stick with paying cash for your gifts. Otherwise, if you plan on spending 500$, do just that, do not spend more than that and if you use your credit card, pay the balance in full as soon as the bill arrives.
