Dear Santa, Part 2 2007-11-28 18:18:23 I received this in an email from a friend and thought it was just too cute and I had to share. I can relate!
Dear Santa
,
I’ve been a good mom all year. I’ve fed, cleaned and cuddled my children on demand, visited the doctor’s office more than my doctor and sold sixty-two cases of candy bars to raise money to plant a shade tree on the school playground. I was hoping you could spread my list out over several Christmases, since I had to write this letter with my son’s red crayon, on the back of a receipt in the laundry room between cycles, and who knows when I’ll find anymore free time in the next 18 years.
Here are my Christmas wishes:
I’d like a pair of legs that don’t ache (in any color, except purple, which I already have) and arms that don’t hurt or flap in the breeze, but are strong enough to pull my screaming child out of the candy aisle in the grocery store.
I’d also like a waist, since I lost mine somewhere in the seventh mon Read more:Dear Santa

No, it’s not much, but it’s a start. And, no, the tree still has no lights or ornaments. The lights are dh’s job, and he’s sick

Go ahead, look at me funny 2007-11-28 15:26:54 I went to Giant Eagle today to get dh some medicine and they were piping Christmas tunes throughout the store. I couldn’t help myself and I started quietly singing along. I love Christmas music! People were looking at me like I was off my rocker! As if they’ve never heard anyone singing Christmas songs before. And it wasn’t as if I was belting them at the top of my lungs or anything. They probably thought I was mumbling to myself until they got close enough to actually hear that I was singing along. Oh, well. Nothing can break my spirit at this time of the year!

Manic Monday 2007-11-26 11:52:59 No, I’m not talking about some sale in a store somewhere. I’m talking about my house! Manic
is certainly what it is with 6 kids running around. My blog name is holding true today! I have been babysitting for a friend for about 4 months and today, because the kids are all out of school, I have her two oldest. I don’t usually have them, since they are also in first grade, but on the occasion that they are off of school, I get all three. So, today I have three boys and three girls in the house, including two sets of twins (yes, her two oldest are twins, as well).
I have a ton of things I’d like to get done today, especially since the landlord is coming on Thursday to inspect our half of the duplex. I’m finding that it’s increasingly difficult to get anything done when the four older ones want to follow me around everywhere. Don’t get me wrong, I love that they are interested. I just wish they were interested enough to actually help. Fortunately, t Read more:Monday

Alex is just too stinkin’ cute 2007-11-23 11:35:30 My mom and step-dad are truck drivers. They travel the 48 continental states and Canada (they could go to Alaska, too, if they are lucky enough to get one of those trips. They are few and far between and you need lots of seniority). They often send the boys postcards from the states that they visit. We have maps for each of the boys and we place stars on each of the states they receive postcards from so that they can keep track of where mamaw and papa have been.
Todays postcards came from Missouri. Alex’s postcard has a barn on it and he looked at me and said, “Why did someone send me a postcard with a barn on it?” I proceeded to tell him that it was from Missouri and before I could finish my sentence, he almost giggled with delight when he said “Missouri sent me a postcard?” Brian, who was in the living room on the couch, couldn’t help but laugh. I had to laugh, too. It was just too stinkin’ cute! And, no, he wasn’t just being funny. He
I have a great mother-in-law 2007-12-05 15:19:22 To be fair, I have two pretty good mother
-in-laws and I have something in common with both of them. Brian’s mom is a special education teacher, so am I. Brian’s step-mom likes to cook/bake and so do I. She’s also an avid reader, as is his dad. A couple of years ago, when they were here for Christmas, she brought us a HUGE bag full of books. She used to work for a publisher and has lots of advanced reading copies of books (I’ve mentioned this before). Some of the ARC’s are cookbooks, which I adore! She sent us an early Christmas present this year.
I must first say that, when we got the box, and opened it, I promptly placed the presents under the tree because they were wrapped and I assumed they were for Christmas. Well, I assumed wrong. I should have known by the bag of flour that was also contained in that box (unwrapped, of course). I thought it was odd that she was sending me a bag of flour. The last time she sent me something like that, it was a bag of

Here’s my tacle it Tuesday
entry:
It isn’t 100% finished yet, since I haven’t put the train under it or any of the ornaments on it. But, it’s been up for 2 weeks without lights, so we’ve got a goot start! lol
Cell phone tops preschoolers wish lists this Christmas 2007-11-30 21:08:25 Cellphone
s, laptops, digital cameras and MP3 music players are among the hottest gift items this year for preschoolers. According to a New York Times article,
Toy makers and retailers are filling shelves with new tech devices for children ages 3 and up, and sometimes even down. They say they are catering to junior consumers who want to emulate their parents and are not satisfied with fake gadgets.
Not satisfied with fake gadgets, huh? I guess my kids are the “weird” ones because they are happy to play with fake phones (not cell phones, either) and toy cameras. Certainly the toy laptops, like the Easy Link Internet Launch Pad from Fisher-Price, have an educational value to them. Even a low-end digi camera has educational value. But a cell phone? I see no educational value in that whatsoever. I don’t think 12 year olds should have cell phones so there is no way I think that’s appropriate for a 3 year old.

Interesting Gallup poll 2007-11-30 18:25:46 I have stayed out of the political realm on here for quite some time, other than stating who I am supporting in the ‘08 Presidential election. However, this I found interesting.
Republicans Report Much Better Mental Health Than Others
PRINCETON, NJ — Republicans are significantly more likely than Democrats or independents to rate their mental health as excellent, according to data from the last four November Gallup
Health and Healthcare polls. Fifty-eight percent of Republicans report having excellent mental health, compared to 43% of independents and 38% of Democrats. This relationship between party identification and reports of excellent mental health persists even within categories of income, age, gender, church attendance, and education.
The basic data — based on an aggregated sample of more than 4,000 interviews conducted since 2004 — are straightforward.
I suppose that would explain why so many Democrats I know are all about the doom-and-gloom, huh?
Holy wind tunnel, Batman! 2007-11-30 18:13:40 Holy cow! I seriously thought my van was going to be blown off the road this afternoon! And while I was sitting in the van waiting for the twins to leave school, I felt like I was on a ship. Maybe I should have had a bag of salt (or two bags) in the trunk. It was scary at times driving on the interstate with all the cars weeble-wobbling on the road. Geesh!

Now it feels like Christmas 2007-12-13 15:12:17 Brian’s dad and step-mom sent their Christmas
gifts through DHL and we received them today. There are finally presents under our tree. Well, there were some from my dad, but now under the tree is full of presents an it doesn’t look so bare!
But, you know what the best part of getting those presents in the mail is? The BOXES! YIPPEE! I never thought I’d be so happy to get boxes in my life, lol. We have some more nice, sturdy boxes for packing. Plus, Kitten has gotten us some, as well. Thanks, Kitten!!
Blog hiatus and saying goodbye to Erie 2007-12-12 07:51:11 If you’ve seen Jack’s blog today, you already know our big news. We are leaving Erie. I am saddened to leave Erie, but excited by the prospect that moving to Rochester, NY brings. Erie has been our home for the bulk of our marriage and family life, which is why it is going to be so hard to leave. It’s the only home our kids have known, but they seem ok with our impending move, albeit a little apprehensive. I expected them to react much worse to the news, but there were only a few tears. I think it will help them to be involved with the packing process. And, I think they are intrigued by the idea of having their own rooms. Well, at least the twins are excited about not having to share a room with Alex. I can’t say that Alex is excited about having his own room. He wants to be with his bubbies. That will certainly take some getting used to for him.
So, in the interest of packing, I’m likely going to be neglecting my blog for quite some time. I’ll try Read more:saying
Where can I recycle old electronics? 2007-12-11 14:27:28 I know about Freecycle and Recycle Erie. I’m a member of both groups. But, the electronics
I want to get rid of don’t work, or are shells, as in the case of our computer shells. Does anyone know where I can take these things to be recycled?? If not, do any of you want them? lol. I don’t imagine any of you do, since they don’t work. The shells might come in handy for someone who wants to build their own computer, though.
Anyway, if you know where I can dispose of these properly, please leave a comment here and let me know!
The end of an era 2007-12-10 08:23:55 It isn’t an era for anyone but us. Mostly me. Today, my baby has shed his toddlerhood for boyhood. He is 5 today. I’m a little sad (but only a little!). I no longer have a “baby.” He hasn’t been a baby for awhile, anyway. And I hear the collective voices in my head telling me that he will always be my baby. That is true. But I guess his turning 5 puts a cap on it all for me. There are lots of things that his birthday brings me to reflect upon. He was 3 weeks old when we moved here to Erie from Bismarck. So, he is my life, our life, in Erie. Sure, the twins are, too, and certainly they were too young, at 19 months, to remember what North Dakota was like. Erie is the only place they’ve really ever known as home.
What it really means is that, in 9 short months, he’ll be off to kindergarten, off to school with his brothers. I have mixed feelings about that. It was easier for the twins to go to kindergarten that I expected, but when he goes,&hellip
Red Kettle 2007-12-21 22:19:31 Every year, the WJET/WFXP anchors and staff pick a day to ring a bell for the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle
Campaign. This year, it was today. Except for last year, when dh was sick with bronchitis and pneumonia at the same time, he usually chooses to play Christmas tunes on his trumpet. It’s fun, and people seem to enjoy it. It gives it a bit of a twist, rather than ringing the bell. Alex and I went with him today, and I snapped a couple of shots.
Merry Christmas!
Goodbye Sharky 2007-12-21 21:44:25 I have been calling Zach “Sharky” for 3 months or so. You see, he has had his 2 adult bottom front teeth for that long, while still having his baby teeth. Alas, Sharky is no more. Zach has finally lost his first tooth, and he even pulled it out himself! His second one will be out before Christmas. It looks like a visit from the Tooth Fairy is in order tonight

It’s amazing what you find 2007-12-20 11:54:05 It’s always amazing what you find when you move. Things you haven’t seen in 5 years suddenly show up. What I found in the attic today, though, took me back 25 years. I had forgotten that I even had it! What could have turned the clocks back so far for me? My old Glow Worm! Yes, you read that right. My Trademark 1982 Glow Worm. And guess what? It still works!
It’s a little on the dirty side (And rightly so. It’s 25 years old!). But it’s in the washer right now, so it should come out good as new!
Christmas cookie fun! 2007-12-20 11:35:10 We made Christmas
cookies on Tuesday, and frosted them yesterday. I thought I’d share some pictures of the fun. Enjoy!
A new kind of gift card under the tree 2007-12-19 10:11:14 Gift cards are quite popular. I often get dh an iTunes gift card as part of his birthday/anniversary/Christmas present. I received a B&N goft card from our friends for Christmas, dh got a best Buy gift card. Some people don’t like them. I LOVE them! They allow me to go shopping for something that perhaps I’ve wanted but either haven’t had the money for, or haven’t wanted to put my own money for simply because it wasn’t important enough.
This year, there is a different kind of gift card being offered for people. It’s a medical gift card, and it’s a hot commodity. According to this article:
This gift card can be used for doctors’ visits or deductibles, prescription co-pays, contact lenses and even elective surgery.
“It’s a first of its kind; no one has ever offered a gift card like this,” said Kim Bellard of givewell.com.
The card is issued by Visa, so it can be used anywhere Visa is accepted for health-related serv
Another one I like 2007-12-19 08:53:39 This is another one I really like. Had to share!
I love the dad’s reactions and facial expressions! So funny!
I just can’t resist 2007-12-19 08:43:01 In taking a break from packing, I took a few moments to find one of my favorite commercials on YouTube. The song is so catchy!
Enjoy!

I think I broke my toe 2007-12-16 15:00:59 I’ve never had a broke
n toe before, but I still think
I broke it. I caught our coffee table either last weekend or sometime early this last week with my left foot. I’ve done it many times before, but something about the way I caught it this time made me practically cry. And it hurt a lot longer than it usually does. So, the last few days, I’ve had this weird feeling, like there’s something caught in between my toes (the one I think is broken is the one right next to the pinky toe). Only, when I check, there’s nothing there. So, I then checked to make sure that my pinky toenail wasn’t somehow cutting into the side of my other toe. Nope, nothing wrong there. It hurts to touch and looks swollen, when compared to the same toe on the opposite foot. There’s also a bump on one side that wasn’t there before. I’m not going to go to the doctor, though, since there isn’t anything they can really do for a broken toe. They’ll tape it
