Tackle It Tuesday
2008-05-20 21:47:14
My Tackle It Tuesday comes in two parts today. They both coincide with each other, however. The first is the ever-present pile of laundry: The second is the daunting task of packing suitcases. Oy. I have decided that I can no longer fit all 3 boys in the same suitcase so Alex now gets his own, smaller, duffle bag. As much as I hate to pack even one extra bag due to space in the van, I am really

I am a member of an onine twins community. We are parents or grandparents of twins. They are such a great resource. Our twins range in age from babies to adults, so somewhere, someone has either been though what you have or will go through it. Most of us have children in addition to our twins. I just love being part of a community of people like that. I became really good friends with someone from

1. There is absolutely NO way you can get me to bungee jump! 2. Seeing all the flowers and trees bloom reminds me that summer is almost here! 3. I cannot live without my computer! 4. Knitting and quilting are two things I’d like to try. 5. When life hands you lemons trade them in for oranges. 6. Camping with my grandparents all over the country is my favorite childhood memory. 7. And as f

This is the largest rookie class since 1997. Thirteen rookies are entered in the Indianapolis 500, the most since 1997 when the 13-member rookie class included Kenny Brack, Greg Ray and Sam Schmidt. DH is going to jail
2008-05-14 16:18:52
Yep, you read that right. 2 weeks from tomorrow, Brian’s being locked up. To be released on good behavior, he needs to raise $800 for his bail. Whatever did he do to get thrown in jail, you ask? Why, he’s MDA’s Most Wanted Citizen! It’s time for the 2008 Rochester “Stars Behind Bars” campaign for the MDA, and Brianis being locked up to raise money. To help him r

1. For me narrow-mindedness is the opposite of creativity. 2. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was the last excellent book I read. 3. I like fill-ins because it gives me something fun to blog about. 4. In nature I like looking at flowers. 5. I’m not happy with anyone who will win the US elections. 6. The last time I laughed with all my belly was probably at something one of my kids said

Today I heard about not one, but 2 teachers who decided it would be a good idea to berate 5 year old kindergarteners in front of their classmates. My initial reaction was WTH??? After reading the stories, my reaction was again, WTH???? What are these teachers thinking? By now, you all know that education is near and dear to my heart. I have taught before, and I’m returning to college this fa

As an avid Photoshop user, I am very excited about being able to download a FREE e-book for Photoshop! If you are a Photoshop user, I highly recommend downloading this book while you can. It’s free for the next 10 days. It’s got 9 chapters and over 270 pages. I haven’t perused the whole thing yet, but here’s the description from the website: It’s brimming with tried and

Rest in Peace, Jack
2008-06-04 07:15:34
DH just called me from work to deliver the sad news that our friend, Jack Tirak, author of Erie Media-Go-Round, has gone to be with his maker. He was such a delightful person to talk to. I only wish I had gotten to know him a bit better. He was a great comfort and friend to dh not only while in Erie, but here in Rochester, too. Jack, Brian and I will miss you. Rest in peace, my friend. May God be

Tackle It Tuesday

This really is more of a “tackle every day” sort of challenge around here. It became more of a challenge after our recent vacation. Not to mention that I still had not purged the winter clothes from the drawers and closet. I bit the bullet today and did just that, leaving only a few fall/winter shirts and pants, just in case. There are still toys on the floor, but that wasn’t

Green inspiration and piggy busses
2008-06-09 10:08:37
I often get inspiration from my kids. Sometimes I’m inspired to take pictures. Sometimes I’m inspired to do a scrapbook layout (which I haven’t done in forever, btw!). This weekend, however, I was inspired to do something completely different. It’s the time of year where I purge winter clothes, and sometimes summer clothes, that are too small, pack them away for later use w

Regal’s free family movie festival
2008-06-09 17:21:47
When we took the boys to see Kung Fu Panda on Saturday (great movie , btw! Liked it better than Horton, and I really liked Horton!), I saw a poster advertising a family film festival. I wrote down the web address and just now decided to look it up. Regal theaters hosts a family movie festival for nine weeks, starting July 1st and ending August 28th (Roughly. It varies by city). The best part is, it

Irritating
2008-06-16 15:42:27
Dh returned home from work about 1:30 this afternoon. Around 2, we were eating our lunch (or in his case, dinner) and we were suddenly overwhelmed by the sound of jackhammering. Apparently, our complex decided to re-do some of the concrete around the area and our front doorstep was one of those areas. We, of course, had no warning that this was going to happen. This is what we are left with: In

Compost pile Q&A
2008-06-17 20:17:08
Shortly after we moved here, the boys started an organism unit in science. Zach’s class had earthworms as one of their organisms and his teacher sent home a note asking for vegetable scraps to add to their compst for the earthworms. So, now that the weather is a bit better (*ahem* warmer…sort of) I’ve been thinking a bit about starting my own compost pile. There’s some good

Tackle It Tuesday
2008-06-17 19:35:13
Today’s Tackle It Tuesday was fun. Why was it fun? Because it wasn’t my tackle! And I had fun dumping out the toys for the boys to clean up. Yes, that sounds like I was being a mean mommy, but I went to the playroom looking for something and couldn’t find it. While their floor had been clean, they shoved things in places they didn’t belong; under, behind and next to places

Frenzied Friday
2008-06-20 07:48:05
This post is taking part in Frenzied Friday ! This week wasn’t nearly as harried as last week. It seemed I had a bazillion appointments and conferences all lumped into last week. This week, I’ve spent cleaning the house. A little bit here and a little bit there. I’ve also decided to print out FlyLady’s control journal for the boys. With me going back to school in the fall,

Happy Birthday, America!
2008-07-04 13:38:14
Today is a great day (although, admittedly, I’m really tired. I haven’t been sleeping well at all.) It’s a beautiful day and I’ve shooed the kids outside to play. We will be joining some church friends for a barbecue and fireworks later this evening. I am excited to see what Rochester has to offer for fireworks. There are fireworks downtown and in just about every ‘bu

Martin to return full time in ‘09
2008-07-04 12:38:15
Today, amidst barbecues and fireworks, my favorite Nascar driver announced that he’ll be returning to a full cup schedule next year. From Mark Martin ’s website: Mark Martin, a 35-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race winner and the all-time leader in NASCAR Nationwide Series victories, has signed a two-year agreement to drive for Hendrick Motorsports beginning in 2009. Martin will race t

I thought we were a miserable people here in the US. At least that’s what the libs keep telling us. But according to the newest WVS, we’re happier now than 25 years ago. Huh. From the Science Daily “Though by no means the happiest country in the world, from a global perspective the U.S. looks pretty good,” says Ronald Inglehart, a political scientist at the university, who

School is finally out! A Thursday Thirteen meme
2008-06-26 09:12:11
Today is the first day of summer vaction here. After some quick calculating, it’s been determined that the twins had been in school 4 1/2 weeks longer than the rest of their classmates by the time school ended yesterday. They didn’t, of course, realize this, thank goodness. I mean, they understood that they had been in school a LONG time, but not that they had been in school any longer

Tackle It Tuesday
2008-06-24 12:57:26
I approached today’s tackle a bit differently. I didn’t tackle something that had to be cleaned, but rather something that needed to be “set up” in anticipation of school starting in the fall. Yes, I know, I’m 2 months early. There’s just so much that’s going to change when we all (myself included) start back to school in the fall that I want to start now

A peaceful day
2008-07-19 16:09:04
Today was boys day out here in CT. Daddy, grandpa Lou and the boys went to take in a Yankees game today. I really feel so sorry for them. It was nearly 100 degrees today with a heat advisory for the city. But, as this is the last year for Yankee stadium, fil really wanted them to experience Yankee stadium before it’s torn down. I hear they had f un. Fil and I took the over-under at 3 innings

Green Thumb Express!
2008-07-15 21:48:34
I have no picture of the “before” for today’s tackle. It was sort of an impromptu thing. A few months ago, we bought a big potted plant with 6 different herbs and a tomato plant. In my kitchen window a basil plant has been sitting and so has Zach’s pea plant that he planted at school. All of these things have needed re-potting in bigger (or separate) pots for quite some ti

DH is at the Indy Car race at Watkins Glenn with a friend today. He was thinking about me enough to get me an autograph and a picture of one of my favorite Indy Drivers (or, past drivers), Arie Luyendyk. Isn’t he sweet? Here’s a picture of Arie giving an autograph.

I went on a quest to apply for more jobs today. Apparently it’s hard to find a job with the hours I want. Oh, well. Anyway, The recurrent theme was “We do it online now.” Borders, Michaels, A.C. Moore, Panera Bread…all do their applications online. The only ones who don’t that I applied to are WalMart and Target. But theirs are still computerized, no more paper. Real
