NY on the cusp of it’s first African American governor?
2008-03-10 15:37:49
As a new resident to the state of NY, I feel compelled to come out of the no-politics shell I’ve been in for quite awhile and talk about the story that has recently broke concerning our governor. I first must say that my heart and prayers go out to Mrs. Spitzer and her (their) three [...]

He’s not a baby anymore!
2008-03-08 12:24:55
Today I registered Alex for kindergarten. It was both exciting and sad. I’m a bit sad because, well, my baby will be starting school. However, I have also applied to go back to college this week, so I am excited that while he’s in school, I’ll be in school, too. I can tell he’s very [...]

Finally I can share the news
2008-03-03 15:56:04
I am finally able to share the news I have been keeping for 4 weeks. I am going to be an aunt! I am SO excited! I promised my lil’ sis I wouldn’t say anything until she was out of her first trimester. She’s nearly 12 weeks, so I’m a week early, but I couldn’t [...]

Happy cows come from California
2008-02-29 09:06:15
What you can’t see is that behind the cows, on the wall to the left, is a big California postcard. I couldn’t resist taking that picture! I haven’t graced my blog with pictures lately. In fact, I haven’t graced my blog with much of anything lately. Now that I’m finally starting to feel better I thought [...]

The spiritual journey continues
2008-02-24 11:50:16
I don’t think I’ve mentioned on here that we’ve been “church shopping.” Today was the second church that we’ve visited since we moved here. The last 2 Sundays somebody has been sick, so we’ve stayed home. This whole search is a lot harder than I anticipated. I guess part of me thought that I’d walk [...]

I love my position
2008-02-22 19:28:54
I have a group of girlfriends whome I’ve known since middle school. There are 4 of us and one of them I’ve known since kindergarten. We all went to high school together. We all went to college together. We all got married within a year of each other (3 of us within months of each [...]

Sickness abounds
2008-02-21 19:29:59
It seems like ’sick’ is all we’ve done in this house for the last 2 weeks. Ryan started off running a fever 2 weeks ago and it has trickled through everyone in the house, except for dh (of course!). I am the last of the sickies. Saturday night I started running a fever and woke [...]

Move over AlGore, there’s a new sheriff in town
2008-02-08 15:55:00
An interesting article linked on Drudge today. There are some Canadian scientists who are not worried about AlGore ’s global warming, but rather global cooling. I found it a very interesting read. Here’s an excerpt: Solar activity fluctuates in an 11-year cycle. But so far in this cycle, the sun has been disturbingly quiet. The lack of [...]

Finally done - an update
2008-01-29 12:38:45
We are finally done with Erie. I spent all day Saturday cleaning our old apartment and we turned in the keys on Sunday. We are officially done with Erie. I just about have everything taken care of here in terms of putting stuff away, storing stuff, etc. It is amazing how much stuff you can [...]

I’m just a small town gal trying to make it in the big, bad city
2008-01-18 08:54:24
I love that quote, and that movie! Ok, I digress. Rochester is fabulous. It’s taking some getting used to, that’s for sure. It’s much bigger than Erie, but it doesn’t take as long to get to places. We went to get pizza on Sunday from a little mom-n-pop pizza place Brian had found. While we were [...]

Horton Hears a Who
2008-03-14 17:04:22
We took the boys to a matinee showing of this today since they were off of school due to a Superintendents conference. I must say that this was such a good movie! I would expect nothing less from a movie based on a Dr. Seuss book. It was a really good, laugh-out-loud family movie. Jim Carrey and Steve Carell were hilariously funny in this heartwarming tale. Horton shows us all that one person can make a difference. If you have a chance to see this movie, I would highly recommend it!

Need info on Ludlow, PA
2008-03-16 13:29:21
I am working on a website for a friend of mine. It’s going to be a site for Ludlow, PA. The problem is, there is so very little information available on the web about Ludlow. Do any of my Erie readers know anything about Ludlow that I can add to the site? I’m looking for any information, past and present. I am looking for anything I can get my hands on. You can either post it here, or e-mail me at trisha [at] insanitys-oasis [dot] com. Thanks!

Locks of Love
2008-03-18 21:16:55
I have been debating for awhile whether to cut my hair off and donate it, or to keep it long. I have decided that though I LOVE my long hair, it is just too long. I can’t do anything with it, it’s clogging up the lint trap on my dryer and the drain stops in the shower. I find it everywhere; embedded into clothes, all over the carpet, on the boys’ coats, on the bathroom rugs, in the vans… the list goes on. I know that I will be at least a little sad to see it all go. However, I have decided to donate it to Locks of Love. I have a good 14-16 inches that I can donate, if not more (their minimum donation length is 10 inches). I am very excited to be doing this for such a great organization. Saturday is the big day for me. There will be pictures taken before, during, an

I’m being published!
2008-03-18 10:44:32
If you are a regular visitor of my blog, you know that I am a digital scrapbooker. One of my digital layouts is going to be published in an e-zine in May and I am so excited! Here’s the layout, and what it’s going to be used for: Color is an important design tool for scrapbookers. I’m looking for layouts to feature in an article I’m writing for the May 2008 Tidbytes on using color on layouts. Do you have a layout that using color emphasize a photo, element or title? Maybe your layout uses a color scheme to set the mood or theme for your page (i.e. bright primary colors for a child’s birthday). I’m looking for pages that use color in these and other ways.

March Madness
2008-03-20 11:06:53
Ah, the madness of March . The NCAA basketball tourney starts today, in just a few minutes. I’m not a huge basketball fan. I do NOT like NBA basketball, but I can tollerate college. However, I LOVE the tourney. Even before I was filling out brackets I loved the tourney. Last year, i didn’t fare so well in the Irish Trojan’s basketball pools. However, I’ve done much more research and consulted the “experts” on college basketball and think I’ve put together a pretty good bracket this year. We’ll see how it fares. I’m in several bracket challenges this year, including a pool at dh’s station. I even have my own bracket group on Facebook. And no, Ron, I’m not gonna let you kick my butt again like you did in fantasy football! lol.

Hair today, gone tomorrow
2008-03-22 11:59:07
Today was the day. I got my hair cut this morning. Now, to most people, getting a haircut is no big deal. However, I haven’t cut my hair in 2 1/2 years! You can imagine how much I was getting cut off. So, i decided that since I was cutting so much off, I was going to donate it to Locks of Love. In the end, I’m donating 16 inches of hair to Locks of Love. How amazing is that?! And now I’m sure you all want pictures, right? Ok, here they are: Before: The bottom word on my shirt, “Renegadas,” is just at the bottom edge of my waiste band on my pants (dh was sitting down when he took the picture). The hair: After:

Science Museum fun!
2008-03-30 18:02:04
We made a day of it yesterday and went to the Rochester Science Museum . The boys had a blast! It was a lot of fun. They have a great Planetarium, though we didn’t get to see a sky show. Those are done just on Saturday mornings and we weren’t there that early. Maybe next time Anyway, here are the pictures. It’s done as a slideshow fom my Webshots photo album, since I am not able to upload my pics through my FTP atm. Enjoy! (*NOTE: If you are an Opera user, you may not be able to see the slideshow. However, if you see a black box with no pictures, you can click on the black area and be taken to my Webshots photo album to see the pictures.) Science Museum

Vinegar is my new friend
2008-04-07 10:56:07
Though the boys have been potty trained for some time now, but two of them still wet the bed at night. Alex now has more dry nights than wet, so we’re on the downhill side of that hill. However Zach seems to still be on the uphill side. He’ll be 7 at the end of the month, and the doctors assure me that kids typically grow out of that between ages 7 and 8, so I’m hoping that sometime in the next few months, we cross the hill and start down the other side. In the meantime, I’ve had to deal with pee smelling clothes, sheets and room. We kept the plastic on Z’s mattress when we bought it and that’s been extremely helpful in not having to worry about the mattress itself getting wet. We tried pull-ups for a long while, but decided that it just wasn’t cos

March for Babies!
2008-04-09 14:10:55
It’s time for the March of Dimes March for Babies ! I know I’m way behind on fundraising this year. The move and settling in and everything threw me off. I have had my banner in the sidebar for a week or 2 now, so I figured I’d better say something on the blog. I don’t exactly expect to reach my goal this year, but if I can raise the same amount that I did last year ($200) I’ll be happy. Our walk is the fisrt Sunday in May, the 4th, so you still have a few weeks to donate (and you can donate after the walk is over, as well). So, if you’d like to donate to the March of Dimes and sponsor Ryan, Zach, Alex, Brian and I this year, click on the banner at the right and you can make a safe, secure online donation. Every little bit helps, even if it’s only $

More March for Babies news
2008-04-15 16:25:31
I am very excited. Today, I met with the senior community director for New York State Chapter Genesee Valley/Finger Lakes Division of the March of Dimes. Darcy is wonderful! She asked me if I would be willing to be the co-chair for the divisions family mission teams! I gladly accepted, of course. They are so excited to have us on board and wanting to participate. It also appears the Brian and I will be the “face,” if you will, of their charity golf event in late July. That hasn’t been confirmed yet, but they’d really like us to be on board for that. I love that they are presenting us with opportunities to get involved. It’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a couple of years, but never really felt like there was an opportunity in the Erie office. I&#

A fitting birthday cake
2008-04-20 18:14:01
So, the twins will be 7 a week from tomorrow. It’s so hard to believe that they’re that old! I remember the day they were born. Well, in all fairness, I’ll never forget the first 6 weeks of their lives. You just don’t shake your NICU experience. I look at them today and see just how far they’ve come from that day, nearly 7 years ago. We had no idea what we would face in the future. I’m happy to say that we haven’t seen any lasting effects of their prematurity, other than being a bit underweight and a bit short (though I’m no Mendocino Tree, myself. I’m only 5 feet 1/2 inch tall). We have opted out of a party this year. We have decided to no longer do a family party for any of them since our family never seems to make it (and some of th

I love summer weather and a recycled horse
2008-04-20 18:03:14
It has been b-e-a-utiful outside lately and I am loving it. It’s amazing how quiet the house gets when the weather gets warmer All the playing outside has been thoroughly wearing the boys out. Also something I love. We also got our first chance to see a ball game here. We took the boys to see the Red Wings Friday night and had a great time. I haven’t had much to say on here as of late, but I hope to have some more blogging ideas in the coming weeks. I certainly have lots of pictures to share. These are all the pics I’ve taken of the boys over the last week or so, including pics from the ball game Friday night. There’s a lot, so I’ll post them after the jump.

The first casualty of summer
2008-04-21 16:26:36
It was bound to happen, and it has. I’m not sure who was hurt worse, Ryan or the tree he ran into. And, no, he wasn’t riding a bike. He was running. With his head down. Not watching where he was going. The exact thing I’ve warned him about forever. Thank goodness we don’t have any school pictures in our immediate future, lol. Poor kid. I think he’s finally (*crosses fingers*) learned his lesson. Update: It appears the tree won, by the looks of Ryan in the shower. There’s also some scraps along his chest and shoulder and arms and there’s a patch much like his face in his hairline that I did not first see. Ryan told me after his shower that it felt like he got punched in the stomach only it was in the head. Quite an analogy for an almost-7 year ol

Spring has sprung!
2008-04-21 07:18:07
Yeah, it’s been spring officially for awhile. With all this warm weather lately, it’s almost as if we’ve skipped spring altogether and went straight for summer. Anyway, I noticed on my way in from the bus this morning that we have our firt tulip! I love tulips. They are my second favorite flower, behind daisies. It’s in a bit of a precarious place, appearing to be intertwined with the rose bush that’s planted out front. I took a couple of pics to share.
