Coulter Club 2007-03-22 21:58:00 Oh, has the world changed, or have I changed ? Coulter
Genre: IndieFrom: Seattle, Washington, United StatesAlthough hailing from Seattle, Lesley Coulter's spiritual home is clearly 1980s Manchester, or, more precisely, a damp step outside the Salford Lads Club. Monsieur Coulter has spent the last decade weaving together songs that beg, borrow and steal from 50's rockabilly, 70's glam, 80's jangle, 90's Brit pop, and the Smiths back catalogue and, with an endorsement from Andy Rourke , and his eponymous group supplemented by Chris Chez on bass and Sam Ahdi on additional instruments and programming, 2007 could be the time for the Coulteral Revolution. This is music that wears it's heart on it's sleeve, it's influences like a certificate of authenticity, and it's tales of unrequited love like a badge of honour. If you're familiar with Morrissey endorsed bands such as The Smoking Popes, Sack and Bradford or are missing Gene since they broke up over 2 years ago then check out Coult
Amor 2007-03-24 12:37:00 Naim AmorGenre: Indie / Pop / FolkFrom: Tucson, Arizona United States via FranceWow this is cool, it's cooler than cool, this is the gospel that will set us all free. This is music so cool it wears a turtleneck sweater, black beret and raybans, has a perfectly trimmed goatee and comes snapping it's fingers and casually smoking a Gauloise. Like an unshaven lounge lizard in a crumpled suit Naim blends mellow jazz, lounge, quirky French folk-pop and dark, experimental rock to create, what he terms, "avant French pop".The Devil stumbled upon Naim Amor whilst listening to a littleradio.com compilation which included a track called "Woman Who's A Woman" (available for download below). It sounded like Lou Reed covering an Air b-side and it was intriguing enough to warrant further investigation. What I discovered was that monsieur Amor has an interesting back story (or history as it was called when I went to school!). He started his artistic journey in the French underground with obscure ha
Back To Work 2007-03-31 09:54:00 Apologies for being away for so long - it was back to work on monday and, after two weeks off, there was a lot to catch up on and I was knackered, and slightly brain dead, by the end of the day. Well now I'm back with a slightly different approach to the blog today. I'm going to increase the number of bands featured and reduce the verbosity. I'm going to give myself two sentences to accurately sum up the band and their influences. If it works and the number of hits go up then that will become the norm, if not then I'll go back to the old verbosity! Right here goes for a real Woolies pick 'n Mix ...The Groove FarmGenre: Indie/ Surf / Pop PunkFrom : United KingdomThe Groove Farm are a ramshackle , fuzzy garage band who combine the joyous 60s pop of the The Monkees with the indie sensibilities of The Pastels . The Devil Goes Mod 2007-04-15 21:27:00 Somethings stirring on the streets of towns across Britain, call it a reaction against the scruffy pock marked face and drug scarred arms of Pete Doherty, call it another turn in this generations scouring of the comfort of the past in an increasingly uncertain world, call it the next wave of historical culture plundering just don't mention the Ordinary Boys (at least not just yet). Britmod Week Comes To An End 2007-04-20 21:19:00 PopeGenre: Britmod / Indie / RockFrom : London, United KingdomThe Chords are dead long live Pope. What better way to end Britmod week than with the lord of mod himself, Chris Pope from The Chords, and his new band, Pope. Coming on like a surly Springsteen if he'd been born within earshot of the Bow Bells and experienced the frustrations of 10 years of Blair's Britain, Pope seethe(s) with barely contained outrage. The bright, brash naivety of 'Maybe Tomorrow' has been replaced by the world weary testiness of 'Another Day In England' and anger of the Feederish 'The Last Thing I Ever Do' . If you were looking for a musical parallel to the Blair years then Chris Pope's journey from the bright optimism of The Chords to the bitter discontent of Pope could just about fit the bill. It's not all acid and vitriol, however, with the Lennonesque 'Could I Fall In Love' striking a more positive note on which to end the Devil's Britmod week.Go TryMP3 - Pope - The Last Thing I Ever DoMP3

I've Started Something....... 2006-08-06 14:22:00 There are so many brilliant, talented yet underexposed bands who have been ignored by the major labels (any labels), the public and the music press. We are living in a god forsaken time when the Futureheads, surely one of the most overrated bands in the history of music, are lauded whilst bands such as the Low Edges, Gifthorse (the UK rather than the USA version) and the Monolators are ignored. I've started this blog to promote bands who will probably (hopefully) never be the next big thing or Your New Favourite Band (copyright NME) but are producing exciting, interesting, challenging or just plain great music.Try these out for starters:The Low EdgesThey are from East London, England, United Kingdom They describe themselves as Indie Rockabilly Country and at times they sound like the Stray Cats fronted by Mark E Smith (Leave The House). At times they are also the missing link between the Nightingales and the early Smiths and that's genius.http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseacti
