Funny Doctor Stories
2007-11-21 06:22:17
I read these hilarious quotes on another blog. The first one is my favourite. 1. A man comes into the ER and yells, "My wife's going to have her baby in the cab!" I grabbed my stuff, rushed out to the cab, lifted the lady's dress, and began to take off her underwear. Suddenly I noticed that there were several cabs -and I was in the wrong one. Submitted by Dr. Mark MacDonald 2. At the beginning of my shift I placed a stethoscope on an elderly and slightly deaf female patient's anterior chest wall. "Big breaths," I instructed. "Yes, they used to be," replied the patient. Submitted by Dr. Richard Byrnes 3. One day I had to be the bearer of bad news when I told a wife that her husband had died of a massive myocardial infarct. Not more than five minutes later, I heard her reporting to the rest of the family that he had died of a "massive internal fart." Submitted by! Dr. Susan Steinberg 4.

USB 3.0 = 4.8 GB/s
2007-11-20 07:40:43
The new USB 3.0 is planned to be released for 2009 with a whole set of new features. First and foremost the speed will be increased by 10X from 480mb/s to 4.8 GB/s and will now use an optical cable. There are also going to be improvements for devices that charge off of the USB connection, enabling more powerful devices to charge from the computer without requireing an additional AC adapter. 2.0 was good for the time, but now with larger SD cards on my PDA and more powerful devices, I will welcome the transition to a faster cable to move files around. -- Max ... Funny iPhone Story
2007-11-20 04:53:37
A true story?   A true story.      I read a funny little story about a guy who thought he was very clever and after using his iPhone to check the weather at their destination, he called over a flight attendent and asked if they would ask the pilot as to what the real reason was the flight was going to be delayed. So along went the flight attendent and said to the pilot: "Some guy with an IPhone says the weather is good, and wants to know what the real reason is for the delay. Is something wrong with the plane?" To which the pilot responded  "If the passenger with the IPhone would be kind enough to use it to check the weather at our alternate, calculate our fuel burn due to being rerouted around the storms, call the dispatcher to arrange our release, and then make a phone call to the nearest Air Traffic Control center to arrange our timely departure amongst the other aircraft carrying passengers with

Gmail hits 5GB
2007-11-17 21:48:55
Well I knew that it was quickly coming. Google's Gmail just hit 5GBs! Click here or click the image to zoom in.    As you can see, I am using now where near its full capacity. With all the new features that are available such as Google Docs integration and GDrive, I can see Gmail becoming more and more useful as Google increases its integration with their other services. Already the suite can identify UPS tracking numbers and the such and open the tracking information at the click of the link.       Such an integration has been a part of Zimbra Suites (and other features which are not available in Gmail such as identifying addresses and phone numbers and offering services to identify them on a map, add them as a contact, call them via Skype, or lengthy lis of other features). Zimbra was recently aquired by Yahoo, this combined with Yahoo's strong push to enhance it's vastly popular email service and new features which are constantly being

hum hum, yes Audi R8 - pretty sweet - My Top Three cars
2007-11-16 17:01:40
I watched a Forbes video on the new Audi R8. The car does look pretty sweet, and has a fairly distinct look (though in my view they took a lot from the Bugatti Veyron when it comes to the exterior). I wasn't overly impressed by the cars performance for the cost of the car (as seen on the wikipedia page - pasted below), but overall I like the car. I think I prefer the white they shown below as apposed to the grey one in the video. The 10 Riskiest Businesses To Start - is your's one of them?
2007-11-16 15:27:43
Forbes has created a list of the top 10 risky business to start. I would agree for the most part with their list, though when you look at it, you could argue that their arguments could easily be describing another business. The full article can be seen here on Forbes though I found it rather slow to go through the slide show so I will summarize it here in my blog:Transportation: (taxis, limos, ambulances, hearses and other vehicles for hire) High market entry costs, difficult to sustain trustworthy staff, requires a close community connection to attract work.Clothing Stores: very trendy, heavily established competition, inventory management is extremely difficult, saturated market. Bars and Restaurants: require large sums of money (for equipment, staff, supplies, slow weeks, etc.), tight budgeting (most supplies are delivered on a cash basis, so one tough week could mean insufficient cash to pay for next weeks supplies), heavily regulated. I would argue that high operational costs are

Leadership - Decisiveness
2007-11-27 19:19:43
I was listening to Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich today. I came across a rather interesting fact that he mentioned about Henry Ford with regards to his approach towards answers to questions. One important thing I have noticed in management is that being decisive is key.     It is important when dealing with clients, with coworkers, and when dealing with yourself. If you are uncertain about your stance, it will come through in your overdrawn answers, and your contradicting diction; which will lower the level of confidence you & your client/coworker have in your competence. I have got myself into trouble several times by being too wordy and trying to dodge something, or just not knowing when to say "I don't know". Henry Ford's approach? That of a computer, speaking strictly in 1s and 0s.     When asked questions in an interview he would often respond: "yes" or "no" to questions, with little

A REALISTIC ASSESSMENT OF HOW MANY 12-YEAR-OLDS I COULD BEAT UP BEFORE THEY OVERTOOK ME
2007-12-14 04:44:55
My brother sent me this assessment in an email the other day:  Your average 12-year-old boy is about 5 feet tall, weighs in the area of a buck-fifteen, and has developed little muscle mass. I am 21, approximately 6 feet tall, tip the scales at an even 180, and have a moderately athletic and muscular build. Judging on these statistics and what I assume would be a natural ferocity that would spring forth in a moment of physical danger, I estimate that I could beat up seven 12-year-olds before they overtook me. Of course, these would have to be the aforementioned average-sized 12-year-olds. Future linebackers, NBA players, and all Scandinavian children would throw off this equation. On the flip side, if these were some wimpy, four-square-playing, future-jockey 12-year-olds, I imagine the number would skyrocket to anywhere between 12 and 15. It's simple exponential math. This is also assuming that my opponents are smart enough to organize themselves into a circular attack ins

Cool Photos from Calgary
2008-01-04 17:32:11
<p> I decided to take a stroll around Nosehill park (a massive park located in the heart of the NW right near where I live). I had only been up there once before and subsequently thought I should get some photos of it. It is actually pretty neat, as it is big bump with a flat grass field top. Though it is the fact that it is plopped right in the middle of the NW of Calgary that makes it more of a spectacle. Here is a Google Map photo of it: </p> <p> &nbsp; </p> <div style="text-align: center"> <a id="res_9" href=""><img src="-med/sat.jpg" border="0" alt="Satellite photo of Nosehill Park, Calgary, Alberta" /></a> </div> <a href=" title="General"></a&g

Investing
2008-04-06 12:05:30
<p> I saw this while I was watching a video on economics and investing. Certainly a table that should be written down for all to see. </p> <p> This is a table indicating how $1000 can accumulate interest over time. Not exactly a complicated concept and it is likely something you calculated several times during your time in highschool. The interesting part I found about it was the comparrison between the interest rates to give you an idea as to how just a small change can have a large impact on your investment over time. The table below should speak for itself as to what I mean: </p> <table border="1" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%"> <tbody> <tr> <td> <div align="center"
