Our Weekend

We spent Saturday at a local arts and jazz festival here in our hometown. The weather was perfect, there was lots of fun stuff for EB to do, lots of wonderful smelling crawfish filling the air. Oh, and art. Lots of art.EB tries his hand at painting. Or "panking", as he calls it.He also made this fabulous snowman sculpture from clay. The awesome banners hanging from the courthouse:On a side note, have you ever seen a child that had a double crown in his head? Check out EB's noggin'.

I Was Techy...When Techy Wasn't Cool
2008-04-22 22:02:00
I used to be so "up" on what was cool and hot. From clothes to music, I kept up with it all. And then I had a child and now suffer from Mommy Brain. Can anyone else relate?I just don't have time to keep up with techy products like I used to, and this is coming from the girl who used to have a beeper and a cell phone back in the day, because it was cool and everyone else did. And it was imperative that I could be reached at all hours of the day and night, because I was so important, you know. *snort* Ah, the stupidity of youth. So last Saturday while I was working my 17 year old cousin schooled me on iPods. And the fact that I MUST HAVE ONE gives me flashbacks to the days when I was young and in the know about that kind of stuff. But the fact that I can listen to audio books on this i

Monday Book Winner and OMG...I Mowed The Yard!
2008-04-21 22:40:00
First of all, congratulations to Tonggu Mama! She is the winner of the After Me You Come First book giveaway! Secondly....y'all, I mowed my whole yard yesterday. OK, so I know that's totally not blog-worthy, but last spring I attempted to mow it and got a third degree burn on my wrist from touching that silver thingy that gets real hot while I was trying to adjust the height on the mower. Hey, nobody told me it was hot. *sigh* In any case, I pushed that mower for the better part of the afternoon. I left the weeding to Cracked Daddy and we also pruned trees and trimmed hedges. Our yard looks so. freakin'. awesome. And I'm ashamed to admit, but that's the first time in my whole 33 years I've ever mowed a yard. I know.Third....Here are some random yard pictures...Bonnie says hello....

I Went Back To High School Tonight
2008-04-24 22:34:00
Tonight I had the pleasure of going back to my old high school and seeing the Thespian Club put on the annual spring play. It was Little Shop of Horrors this year and my two younger cousins were in it.I immediately started feeling "old" from the thoughts running through my head...like, "Gee, these kids don't know how good they have it now that the auditorium has air conditioner!" and "Oh my gawd....that child has purple hair!!". Things that I swore many, many years ago would never come out of my mouth because I would be eternally cool and hip. But there I was, thinking up my own versions of, "When I was your age, we walked to school a mile uphill in the snow barefoot!".Anyway, the play was awesome. Those kids knocked their performance out of the park, and I was so stinkin' proud of eve

Done and DONE.
2008-04-27 11:00:00
EB is outta there! Daycare, that is. Friday was his last day, although I had no idea it would be when I dropped him off that morning. But as I was bathing him Friday night, there it was...another bite mark. Once again, no word to me to let it know it happened. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt in that perhaps they just didn't see it happen, but they CANNOT tell me that my baby didn't cry. I know he did. That should have been a clue that something was wrong. I understand kids bite and blah blah blah....I just don't feel he is being supervised properly. Some other red flags have jumped up at me this week to confirm my decision. So we're done. EB will be staying with my grandmother now. He loves her...she loves him to pieces...I think this will be better all around. So toda

Cap + Gown= Entitlement
2008-04-28 22:21:00
While visiting with my parents this afternoon I had the chance to read an article in one of our biggest newspapers in the state about how handbags are becoming all the rage for graduation gifts.Oh, but not just any handbag. The child interviewed for the article was looking forward to the Hermes handbag she feels she deserves as a graduation gift from her parents. Average cost? $6300. Ya'll, that's a nice used car! I seriously had to re-read the entire article a couple of times to figure out whether this child was really serious. $6300. $6300??!!!I am well aware that some kids get new cars that cost more than that for graduation. But a handbag for $6300? Seriously? Oh, but the child went on to explain that it would be an heirloom someday, something she could hand down to her own chil

I'd Drink More Water If I Had This
2008-04-28 00:05:00
I've been hearing about these Sigg water bottles, so I went to their website to check them out and totally fell in love with this water bottle.I just really started drinking bottled water a few days ago. I HATE plain water. But then the other day at the store all we had in the fridge was bottled water and my aunt suggested I put one of those Lipton Raspberry Green Tea powdered thingies in it, and I was hooked! And sugar free? I thought I'd died and gone to heaven! So anyway, these water bottles are too stinkin' cute AND better than wasting tons of plastic bottles everytime you want water to drink.

So, um...yeah.
2008-04-27 23:39:00
The blog looks different. Again. What can I say? It was a rainy day...stuck inside with a toddler who only wanted to watch the Tom & Jerry marathon. And eat snacks. So I blogged...and tinkered with my blog.I'm still working on my blogroll, so if your blog isn't there yet and it used to be, have no fear...I'm getting there. And if your blog isn't there and you'd like it to be, just leave me a comment in this post and I'll get right on that. All I ask is for a link to me in return.

Morning Thoughts

Are Tostitos considered a breakfast food?I can't believe I have pink eye AGAIN.What the heck am I going to blog about today? I've got nothing. Why do I keep having crazy dreams? Why does our male cat Clyde insist that 4 AM is a perfectly good time to wake me up every morning?I wonder if my readers will think I am a nutcase for changing my blog template again?Oh crap...I left my phone charger in mom's car.

Just To Quiet Any Rumors
2008-05-02 00:25:00
Apparently I have a problem I didn't even know I had until my inbox recently started being spammed with offers to help me "add length and depth" and did I realize that "every INCH counts???".So in case any spammer is reading this blog with the hopes of luring me to buy their latest product to help with this "issue", don't waste your time. Really. I'm good, thanks.

Oh, Snap!
2008-05-01 23:30:00
As we started our morning drive to work and Maw's house the light on the dash came on signaling I have exactly an air and a prayer to make it to the nearest gas station. "oh, snap!", I said. "EB, we've got to go put gas in the car quick!". To which I then had to hear "Oh, SNAP!" from the backseat until we reached my grandmother's house. At least it wasn't the other "s" word, right? So when I finally got to the gas station, my mood immediately went straight into the toilet. $3.40 a gallon??!?!! I normally keep my car at least half a tank full and am not used to pumping so much at a time, but as I watched the numbers on the pump quickly keep rolling heavenward, I nearly caught a case of the vapors.$44.50 for 13 gallons. Now, that will last me two weeks, but still. It's literally highwa

Letting It All Hang Out Online
2008-05-03 13:12:00
There's been quite a rumpus going on in the mom blogosphere this week pertaining to mom bloggers who share details about their children, their inner demons, and even why some get amazing products to endorse from major companies like Johnson & Johnson. I'm decidedly on the fence about it all (how's THAT for a decision) and wondered what the general concensus was of the bloggers who read my humble little ramblings.I guess the biggest issue I have is with online privacy. I have in the past shared pictures of my son on the internet. I have also blogged about cute little things he says and does. Well, cute to me at least. I'll admit I love seeing pictures of kids in mom blog posts and also love hearing their funny stories. I made the decision early on with this blog not to show my son's f

Ramblings From My Couch
2008-05-05 16:12:00
EB and I are couching it today. He's been running a high fever since early this morning and kept me up all night whining in his sleep. Poor thing, he only wants his mama, so Cracked Daddy is doing the yard work and I am coaxing liquids and about to pull my last strand of hair out from having to watch The Chipmunks for about the 107th time today. But I do it all in the name of love and motherhood, my friends. So since today is so uneventful, I thought I'd take the time to do some bloggy shout-outs. (Shout-outs...that soooo reeks of 1991!) First of all, there is a big baby shower going on at Blissfully Domestic honoring Fussypants (who has one of the most fun blogs I read) who is about to have her 5th baby. They're giving away lots of prizes and I stopped over this morning and they've got

So A Couple of Bikers Walk Into A Christian Bookstore...
2008-05-06 22:37:00
...and y'all! Look what they had with them!! Meet BooBoo:Is she not the most precious thing? Miss BooBoo came in with her humans, who were really nice, and she stole the show with her rockin' little biker goggles. She rides in a little pouch-like thing that goes around her owner's neck that has a little "seat belt" to hold her in while she's on the go. And the goggles are to protect her eyes in case she peeks out...not just for show. She ain't no slave to fashion...her accessories do double duty!

Too Big For His Britches
2008-05-08 00:30:00
Every so often EB will just blurt out things that make my head almost spin completely around because this child has a speech delay AND usually anything he says is more of a demand, like "more" or "stop".Yesterday he made an incredible mess with his toys in the living room and I just didn't have the energy to pick them up before I left for work this morning. He walked in this afternoon when we got home and said, "LOOK at all that STUFF!". Wow. That's five whole words strung together. And then tonight, EB wanted to watch The Chipmunks movie AGAIN, so I started it up in the DVD player and he said, "Thanks for all your help!". Excuse me? I've wiped your little hiney for 3 years, fed you for three years, played with you, took care of you, and have rearranged my whole life around you for t

Ducks, Turtles, and Beer.
2008-05-09 11:13:00
Yesterday it felt wonderful outside, in spite of looking like this:so, because I'm the Best Mommy Ever, I decided we'd make a little impromptu stop at the park on our way home from work. Only it rained the night before, so Mommy totally forgot the playground would be too wet to play on. My bad.So, we ventured to the other side where there is a duck pond. We checked out the ducks:And saw a million turtles: (And do you totally see the shape of a heart on that turtle's back??)And then we stumbled upon a new "hobby" for EB. He was walking along and started picking up nasty beer bottle tops out of the ground. They were pretty sunk in after the rain. My first instinct was to scream, "DON'T TOUCH THAT!!!", but instead I let him pick up as many as we wanted, threw out the duplicates and brou

Because The Waiting Is The Hardest Part
2008-05-11 00:21:00
Can I just flip the script a little today? Yes, I know what day it is. Mother's Day. In which we honor our mothers, and don't get me wrong, that's a terrific thing. However, I'm gearing this towards the mother's in waiting. Who are they? Those waiting for an adoption to go through....those with hopes of starting a family someday, and those who struggle month after month with infertility, hanging on to a prayer's hope they will someday become a mother. It was only 4 years ago that I was in the latter group. The one who had tried for 4 years to have a baby. And I remember one particularly tough Mother's Day. It was right after we had experienced a very early loss and I just wanted to curl into a ball and die. My own mother wanted me to go to the Mother's Day service at church, to ho

Daddy'isms

My dad occasionally cracks a funny and doesn't even realize it. Today was no exception. My Dad: "Come here and let me show you this article I was reading in the newspaper...let me see if it's still in here."As if the article was just going to up and jump out of the newspaper and crash on the couch and make itself at home.
