It Didn't Just Get That Way By Itself
2007-12-22 01:32:00
The only thing I hate about the holidays is the stress. I'm going to my parent's house tomorrow to help clean and start preparations for the annual Christmas Eve breakfast. My parents have been doing this as long as I can remember. BOTH sides of the family at their house, ya'll. BOTH. And friends...neighbors...co-workers. I think just about everyone we know, seriously. And I love this annual breakfast. But it has suddenly occured to me as an adult just what all goes into making Christmas, well, Christmas. And it's stressful, y'all.Just running through a mental checklist, I think of all the shopping for groceries and gifts to make it all possible. Then there's the wrapping, the cooking and cleaning, the decorating, the spending of money that you may or may not have. And it's all to make other people happy, which in itself isn't a bad thing, but it really stinks when you can't just sit back and enjoy some of it and not feel guilty over the money spending or what you s

They Said I Could Spill....
2007-12-21 00:39:00
OK, so some of you may or may not know that THIS blog is also mine. I preschool homeschool my son. We've been having a blast with it and EB is learning so much. So anyway, there is this great little site for homeschooling parents called The Heart of the Matter. I love this site, and I was even interviewed there as a Homeschooler of the Week! I thought THAT was awesome! But, not nearly as awesome as what transpired next. The fine ladies that are in charge of The Heart of the Matter are revamping the site and it will be ready after the new year. I've seen a sneaky peaky, and y'all...it's going to be the best darned homeschooling thing you've ever seen! And they're bringing in some wonderful, wonderful homeschooling parents to contribute content. You will recognize some of these homeschoolers if you keep up with the homeschooling blog scene. So ANYWAY.....they've asked ME to write a monthly column for the new site on Homeschooling a Preschooler!! Can you even imagine???

WFMW- Holiday Laughs (And a book giveaway)
2007-12-19 00:48:00
GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED!Our family is big on laughs. We have silly little traditions that we follow through with each and every Christmas. Like my mother's marathon Christmas Eve breakfast (you either laugh or cry at having to be up so early), singing for our presents (we can't open them until we all do), and reading this particular book before the mad opening of presents begins.Cajun Night Before Christmas is just a terribly funny spin on Twas The Night Before Christmas, only Cajun style. Someone gave the book to my aunt one year, so we break it out every Christmas Eve when we gather at her home for our celebration. Let's face it, ya'll. The holidays can be enough to send anyone screaming into the night. Let's not go there this year. Let us be merry! And bright!I know this book would bring a smile to your face and a laugh to your lips. And I want that for you this holiday season! So..I'm giving away a brand new copy of Cajun Night Before Christmas to one of you lucky re

Our Friend Murphy
2008-03-10 22:52:00
Cracked Daddy and I like to joke that "Murphy is our friend". You know...Murphy's Law. Anything that can go wrong will. And it does. All the stinkin' time. And today is no exception.Murphy particularly likes to take our money. Everytime we have extra money to do something wild and crazy, Murphy comes...and the car needs fixed, or Cracked Daddy breaks a tooth....stuff that's usually more than $100. Because, what fun is it to take money if you're not going to take LOTS of money, right? So $340 later, the cat has been to the vet and EB and I have been to the doctor and we all have been prescribed medication to make us better. $340. In one day. I could seriously just cry.Me thinks Murphy doesn't want us to take our Alabama trip.

Vaseline Would Have Sufficed
2008-03-07 12:22:00
I let EB play hooky from daycare today. At least we won't have to worry about him getting bit, right? It is extremely cold....snow is predicted (But I won't believe it until I see it because we live in the South)...and I needed to run to the grocery store, because by golly I won't be caught without any bread and milk if this snow comes through. People in the South are funny about that....it's almost a mandatory ritual that if snow or ice is predicted, we all descend on the grocery store like vultures to buy milk and bread.Anyway. While in the store I ran across some NO MESS FINGER PAINT made by that REALLY POPULAR CRAYON COMPANY. I won't name them...but I guarantee you or your child have colored with their products in your lifetime. So, I'm thinking...."No mess....something to keep EB

Welcome Party People!
2008-03-06 22:48:00
So today kicks off the Ultimate Blog Party hosted by 5 Minutes For Mom. Yay! I love new visitors to my blog, so this is a very cool thing.I'm Mommy Cracked. I live in the Mississippi Delta with my husband of 8 (almost 9) years and our 3 year old son, EB. EB is short for Energizer Baby. I'm one of those weird people concerned about my privacy online, so that's how I refer to my son. I also don't post very many pictures of him, and if I do, they probably look something like this:Isn't he terribly cute from behind? We also have two cats, Bonnie and Clyde. I have a degree in Political Science and I hold a teaching license in secondary English, Social Studies, and Library Science. I left my elementary school librarian job in 2006 to stay home with EB. EB now attends part time daycare an

I'm Seriously Not Making This Up
2008-03-05 21:33:00
So last night I was giving EB his bath and there I saw it.On his back. Perfectly round. Broken skin. Swollen, with a huge red dot in the middle. EB had a doctor appointment today anyway, so I got the doctor to take a look and he confirmed my suspicions.Yes, another bite.Apparently my son has become a human chew toy. This happened at daycare and strangely, not his teacher nor the director can explain it. I just have a very hard time believing he didn't cry and they didn't notice because this bite was worse than the one he got Friday night and Friday night he howled something awful. My poor baby.

Oh, The Irony Of It All...
2008-03-03 14:55:00
OK, so if you read here regularly you know I was stressing out about my son biting someone. He hadn't done it yet....just stressing about what to do if and when he did. We did have a biting episode on Friday...but it happened a little differently than I imagined.Friday night my parents and I took EB to a local blues and BBQ restaurant. They have a stage area where live bands play sometimes and on this stage there was an old rocking horse. A former classmate of mine and her children (which happen to be EB's age) were there and so EB and her son really took to each other and were playing on the rocking horse. We were all visiting and suddenly EB started crying. That "I've been hurt" heartbreaking cry. We figured friend's son had pushed him, so friend's son apologized and hugged EB and

In Pursuit of Proverbs 31- I never knew what it meant to be a "Proverbs 31 Woman" until I came across Amy's blog and then went to my Bible to see exactly what it meant. Amy has inspired me with the title of her blog and she is pretty much a jack of all trades and when it comes to homeschooling and writing.....she rocks. My Funny Valentine
2008-02-28 22:19:00
Would you like to hear about my very first boyfriend? No? Well, too bad. That's what this post is about. Mwaaaahahahaa!!So anyway. I first had my encounter with puppy "love" in first grade. I'll call him "J". "J" was the cutest boy in first grade and for some strange reason, he thought I was the bees knees, too. I recieved the "I like you do you like me check yes or no" letter one day during reading class, and from that moment on he was my boyfriend. Our relationship consisted of playing chase at recess, and that was about it. Real deep stuff, y'all. The sweetest part was every Valentine s Day until I was about in 3rd grade, "J"'s mom drove him to my house where he would leave me a little Valentine's Day card and gift on the doorstep. Awwwwww. One I vividly remember was a Tweety

Bite Me
2008-02-26 22:34:00
So, we're sitting at the dinner table tonight, enjoying our pizza, and all of a sudden EB leans over and bites my arm. Hard. Really hard. And y'all...it hurt. Bad. Real bad.So now I'm freaking out and praying to my Lord and Savior that he doesn't bite a plug out of some poor unsuspecting child at daycare. I mean, what is the proper etiquette when your child bites another child? I'm thinking I would call the parents and apologize profusely. And feel really embarassed that my child had turned feral. I seriously didn't think this would be something we would have to deal with (ha ha ha), but really...I've never done this before, so what do you do when your child is the biter? You know, just to be prepared and all.

This Working Thing
2008-02-25 23:03:00
OK, first of all...it's storming real good here, and I can't believe AFRo isn't online giving me a play-by-play!!!Right. I was supposed to be talking about work. So I have decided that being a working mom is not a bad thing at all, and it really has improved some things here on our end. EB is very happy with his part-time daycare. His language has really blossomed and his behavior overall is definitely improving. Not that he was bad....he just needed some structure. I guess that makes me sound bad, huh? Like I wasn't doing a good job with the stay-at-home mom thing.Anyway, our house stays cleaner. I guess because we're not home all day. I actually go to bed at a decent time and wake up feeling rested and ready to start my day. I feel useful....our routine is falling into place.

Bloggy Blasphemy

She was a big city slicker and she met a real cowboy and just up and left her city life to live on a ranch. They have four kids. And they have lots of bull testicles hanging in their home.....and it sounds like a blog you might like to read".Me: "Oh cool....what was the name of it"?Cracked Daddy: "Ohhhh....ummm....crap, I can't remember....but they live 25 miles away from the nearest store...can you believe that???!!!"Me: "Honey, was it Confessions of a Pioneer Woman?"Cracked Daddy: "Yeah!!! Saturday's When Daddy's Home
2008-02-23 08:50:00
Cracked Daddy made it home last night. Yay! We spent a wonderful evening out with my parents at the best catfish place in town, complete with catfish gumbo and catfish bread, which EB hearts. We then had to make the trip to that really big mega-store in town to do some shopping. That alone takes at least an hour and a half, because said store is so darn big and only one checkout lane is open at all times. So now it's Saturday and when Cracked Daddy is home, our Saturday's go a little something like this:My guys get up at 8 AM and go get haircuts, then they come home looking super cute.Cracked Daddy fixes us a complete breakfast with sausage, eggs made to order, biscuits, bacon, and coffee. I know!! Try not to be jealous of that!!Then we watch movies, or play trains for the millionth t

So I was Thinking...
2008-02-21 23:20:00
About hair. I made an appointment for next week to get my hair cut. Nothing major...just shape up the layers and maybe take an inch off the length. My usual. But anyway, I was driving to work this morning and feeling pretty darn smug that despite the fact that I woke up at 6:50 AM (50 minutes late), EB and I still managed to make it out the door on time. I'm convinced this is because I don't have to fuss with my hair. I wash it, blowdry it, and then use my Chi flat iron. I'm done in 15 minutes, tops. I'm all about some simple hairstyles. But y'all. Back in high school...I had some BIG hair. And it was long. It was the late 80's-early 90's, so that's my official excuse. But every morning I washed it...applied mousse or whatever the gunk of choice was at that time...dried it....and

This Schedule Thing...
2008-02-20 16:13:00
Although I'm quite enjoying my new part time job, it sure has been an adjustment getting used to getting back on a strict schedule. I could normally sleep an hour later and then get EB to daycare and come home and officially "start" my day with a shower, but now we're rushing to get out the door by 8 AM. EB is also going down for a nap almost two hours later in the afternoon, so needless to say this has made for some interesting bedtimes. I'm also used to staying up late to catch up on my blogging, but by 10 PM I am ready to go to bed. I'm sure this getting more sleep is a good thing, but it sure cuts into my "me" time. The very idea!I've also only picked out about $647 worth of stuff I want to buy at the store. I told y'all this was not going to be good on my paycheck. However, I w

The One Where Mommy Gets A Job...
2008-02-18 20:30:00
Well, I started a part-time job today. My aunt approached me about it a couple of weeks ago and since EB is going to need some speech therapy, to help off-set what insurance won't pick up, I've taken a part time job in my aunt and uncle's Christian bookstore. I was terribly nervous as I am used to working in education and not retail, but everything went great and I was surprisingly right at home amongst all those books, being a former librarian and all. It was super busy, but working with people you like and getting a sweet discount on everything I buy ain't a bad gig for 5 hours a day. The only downside I can see from this is that I'm quite sure half of my small little paycheck will be spent in said store.

Give Me A Blog With Substance
2008-02-17 15:10:00
Last night I went through my feed reader and deleted over 200 blogs from it. Truth be told, I don't have time to read that many and it was becoming mighty overwhelming everytime I checked in to see over 3000 posts I needed to read. So I went through each and every one to see what was going on in them, and here's what I found:1. I don't need to read 800 review blogs on children's products. Half of those products are for people way above my personal income bracket, and besides...EB doesn't need a $30 bath towel or a $42 pair of baby knee socks.2. Most of the blogs had turned into content/review blogs...just post after post of crap just so they could slap up some affiliate links for you to click on. No substance, just crap.3. Homeschooling blogs. Oy vey. I kept a few, but several of
