Happy Thanksgiving 2007-11-22 10:52:00 I have been talking with Hope of Hopie Knits the past few days, and in our last conversation, I noted that I am so grateful for both Ron and Kobe. Well I am. I am so thankful for their love and support, along with the love and support I get from all of my friends and family, especially my mom and my brother. I am also thankful that I have an opportunity to give that same love and support to those around me. Hope posted her own message of Thanks giving, which includes a poignant and moving piece attributed to Tyler Perry. So, before we start rattling pots and yelling at that one relative who ALWAYS tries to run the kitchen but can't cook a thing, take some time out to appreciate the love all around you. Even from that relative criticizing the way you stir a pot. And if its get to be too much, excuse yourself for a few minutes of knitting therapy. Love you all! Eryka Read more:Happy

Kobe and the Vet 2007-11-21 19:50:00 Kobe went to the vet earlier this morning because he was favoring his right front paw. Well, after leaving him at the vet most of the day and giving them a huge lump of money, they said he sprained his ankle and needs to be on "crate-rest" for at least a week.Ok, here is the really interesting thing: Kobe has NEVER had to stay in a crate at home. So after wrestling with the disparate wire pieces for 15 minutes or so to get it set up. It took another 30 minutes to convince Kobe to go into. That and about 20 treats. He is in there now and he hates it! But it is the only way we can keep him from flying off the stairs, jumping on and off the beds and playing with Ron. TTFN!Eryka
Toni's Birthday Celebration 2007-11-21 16:17:00 Last night my friend Toni and I went to the Acme Comedy Company to see C. Willi Myles do his stand up routine to celebrate our collective birthdays. Her birthday was actually on November 20 and mine is coming up on November 27. Anyway, we had such a blast! Before the show, we sat in the bar area to exchange presents and dish dirt. I also took the time to do a bit more work on my mittens (which should be finished tonight).I gave Toni a scarf for her birthday, which she seemed to like and she gave me some bath confetti and made it clear she did not want to know what we did with it! C. Willi Myles was incredibly funny! But more importantly his act was clean! Yes ladies and gentlemen, there are comics out there that can make us laugh with out a lot of swear words and adult content! I laughed so hard, I forgot to knit!I think Ron and I will go see him at some point but Toni and I had a great time! Anyone in the Twin Cities this weekend looking for something to do, should go check him out!E Read more:Birthday

Chronicles of .... 2007-11-18 22:59:00 Ok, so I finished the shell for the hat and I am trying to decide how to embellish it. I have started on the mittens, but the thumb gussets are confusing me a bit. Sometimes, I feel like such a novice when it comes to knitting. I have been doing it for years, but it just seems that there is so much that I still need to learn. But alas, I shall continue my efforts to improve. I taught myself to knit and crochet about 7 years ago, so I can learn how to make a gusset! TTFN!
Its getting to be about that time 2007-11-15 21:36:00 Hey,As I was driving home today, the commentator on MPR said there is a strong chance that we will have snow by Thanksgiving weekend. Of course they are still not sure how much snow we will get, but that is not the point. So, in addition to trying to finish moving my blog, I am working on finishing my hat. Once I finish the hat, I'll start on the mittens. I'd better stop now, my husband- to-be is nibbling on my neck in an attempt to draw me away from the keyboard. TTFN!
My New Cape 2007-11-15 13:35:00 Here is the new cape I made. I think it is absolutely lovely, of course in my next project, I am going to tackle sleeves. so we will see what happens!Eryka

A Sweater for Ms. New York II 2007-10-09 14:58:00 So, I watched the I Love New York
- Season One marathon this Saturday to catch up on things and really reconnect with our favorite celebriality diva, Ms. New York. And after reviewing my options, I have decided to go with the Donna pattern by, Caryn Lantz, which is offered on the MagKnits site. I love this pattern! It is a beautiful, elegant sweater that capitalizes on a real woman’s assets. Plus, given Ms. New York’s ...recent additions.., I needed to find a pattern to accommodate her ample bosoms without being too revealing or uncomfortable. I am usilng a pale, lemony yellow, wosted yarn from Plymouth. Not only because it is a lovely versitle yarn, but I do have a good amount of it in my stash. I’ve already cast on and have started the ribbing. I will post an update after the show tonight. Again, the invitation still stands if anyone else would like to join me in my quest to help out a fellow sister in need. Thanks! Eryka Read more:Sweater
Knit a Sweater for Ms. New York, (AKA Tiffany Pollard) 2007-10-09 14:57:00 Hey Everyone, I just had a thought, would anyone join me in a sweater drive for Ms. New York
, AKA TiffanyPollard
? We could make the sweaters and then ship them to the VH1 studios so she has something more "appropriate" to wear when she is meeting her men friends? Now I am not even going to front: I love watching her show. In fact, I plan on watching the I Love New York marathon this Saturday (Oct 6) and the first episode of the new season, which starts Monday (Oct. 8) but I think it would be so much fun to give that sista a sweater. So, maybe, this time when she meets a man, he can look her in her eyes instead of...well, you know. Of course she could also use a skirt or a pair of pants but hit me back and let me know what you think. Thanks! Eryka Read more:Sweater

On the Mend 2007-09-20 14:34:00 My hands are starting to feel better, so I think I will be able to pick up my sticks tomorrow. I've settled on the name for my local knitting group, Brown Skeins, and hope to get some women to join me. I created a group on Facebook, so I hope people sign up.
Crafty Sistas in the Twin Cities 2007-09-19 14:32:00 'm looking to start a knitting circle for women of color in the Twin Cities
(that is Minnesota--the great North!). I know that sounds like a tall order, but I think it can be done. I'm struggling with the name a bit. Here are the candidates: Sistas with Sticks Brown Skeins Crafty
Sistas Twin Cities Knitters of Color BBK (Beautiful, Brown Knitters) Whole Mess a String? So what group would you join? Are there any sistas (women of color--any color) out there interested in getting together one day a month at a local coffee shop to knit and discuss current happenings? If so, hit me up at erykaj@yahoo.comand we'll see what we can pull together. Also, I got this idea from Black Purls, a group of women who get together in L.A. I asked if I could start a sub group and they were ok with it.
In Lieu of Knitting 2007-09-19 14:31:00 Hi all, Since my hands are still a bit sore tonight, I decided to block the scarves I've been working on instead of knitting. I've finished for the night and am on the phone with my darling heart Ron. we are talking about OJ. Whatever--he rarely comes up during a conversation about knitting, so there you go! Scarf for Jane 2007-09-18 14:26:00 Ok I have been really bad at posting. I admit it. I promise I will get better at it. Since my last posting about my knitting machine, Ive made about six scarves. Most are knitted, but a couple are crochet. One I made for my new sister-in-law Jane. She is really great and I think she will make a great addition to our family! She hosted Ron ( my darling honey) and I out in Oakland and took such good care of us, I felt it only right that I make her something by hand. So this gave me the perfect opportunity to use a soy painted wool yarn that I have been looking for an excuse to buy. The scarf came out beautifully. I will update this post later with the images, etc. and one day, I will actually crack open the knitting machine and save my poor hands! Read more:Scarf
Knitting Machine Watch II 2007-09-12 14:24:00 Ok so it finally arrived. My knitting machine is here! I was so excited I tore open the package right there on my desk. And as the ebay description promised, it was mint-in-box--except it didn't include the instruction manual. Can you believe it! No manual! I was incredibly frustrated, so I looked on the Silver Reed web site and spoke with the closest dealer, Lora Kinnan at DaisyKnits who walked me through the process. Read more:Knitting

Knitting Machine Watch 2007-08-17 12:43:00 Ok so I ordered a Singer SK100 knitting machine. It is described as a hobbists machine, which is ok, because I don't think I could handle one of the big ma'ma jamma's. I bought it on eBay last week and I am still awaiting its arrival. I am having it sent to my office, since I spend most of my time here and I don’t want it sitting outside all day. So, now I sit here and I wait. I asked they guy in the mail room again about it, but it still hasn’t arrived. I want my knitting machine! In the meantime, I’ve ordered a book John Allen's Treasury of MachineKnitting
Stitches on Amazon about machine knitting. Anyone ever used it? For that matter, any tips or insights on machine knitting you can send my way? How about the top 10 machine knitting do’s and don’ts. Ok… I am awaiting your responses and will add them to the site. Also, I shall chronicle my experiences with learning to use my new toy. So look me up!
Morning Love 2007-08-16 14:01:00 I squeezed in a few rows this morning before I came to work. I working on a scarf. It is a simple drop stitch pattern, but it is with a really pretty hot pink bulky yarn though, so I think that adds a bit of spice too it. Trying to work out a pretty fringe to adorn it though. Any suggestions? Read more:Morning
