Twenty One
2007-11-18 07:08:00
Inspired by the true story of MIT Blackjack team, a group of college students who mastered the art of counting cards, making oodles of money playing the game of Blackjack (aka 21). The MIT Blackjack team continued as an informal organization throughout the 1980s, growing at times to have as many as 25 players, with a capitalization of as much as $300,000. Recruiting new players from the MIT student body and elsewhere as necessary, it continued to exist until 1990, when casino conditions, player exhaustion and other factors caused the group to stop playing. — from Wikipedia 21 is directed by Robert Luketic and stars Kevin Spacey, Laurence Fishburne and Jim Sturgess. Guy’s Guide to Zombies
2007-11-17 15:12:04
A great spoof of the 1950’s style news reels, calling for humans to embrace zombies and join hands with the undead. To my knowledge at least it looks and sounds pretty authentic. Pound
2007-11-17 07:17:33
As defined by the Urban Dictionary - “Pound : The knocking of fists as a form of greeting, departure, or respect.” Directed by Evan Bernard, this short flick pokes a little fun at the whole concept of “pounding”. This may very well be the longest greeting and farewell you’ll ever witness. Copyright © 2007 IndieBlurb - Independent Film News. This Feed is for personal non-commercial use only. WGA and studios to renew negotiations
2007-11-17 06:52:38
Three weeks into the Writers Guild strike, the WGA and studio execs have decided to return to the bargaining table to flesh out their differences. Talks between the two sides will reopen on November 26th. The parties have not met face to face since last-ditch talks presided over by a federal mediator broke off and the strike began November 5 amid a flurry of finger-pointing, posturing and angry rhetoric on both sides. - from Yahoo.com Here’s hoping things can be settled and a contract which fairly compensates writers will be scribed. Remember it’s not only writers that are being affected by this strike. When you shut down the production of films and television shows, there’s a whole lot of behind the scenes crew members that stand to suffer. With the holidays rapidly approaching, there needs to be a resolution to this strike or families of those crew members will feel the affects as well. Get it done, Hollywood. Mean Creek
2007-11-13 06:43:07
Released in 2004 and the winner of several awards including the Special Distinction Award for an ensemble cast at the Independent Spirit Awards, Mean Creek has become one of my most favorite independent films. Still to this day I find myself recommending it to others. Mean Creek tells the story of a young boy named Sam who finds himself the target of a bully named George at school. Sam’s brother Rocky and a friend named Marty help devise a plan to exact a little revenge on the bully. They arrange a fake birthday party for Sam and invite George to come along. He happily accepts. Also joining the party are Millie (Sam’s friend) and Clyde, a friend of Sam’s brother. The boys plan of revenge all seems to be going well until Millie, the only one who didn’t know about the plan learns of what’s going on and expresses her displeasure with it to Sam. Sam begins to have second thoughts and tells his brother he doesn’t want to go through with the plan. From tha

Darkon - Everyone wants to be a hero
2007-11-09 16:24:16
Using padded weapons and wearing authentic looking costumes, fantasy role-players in Baltimore, Maryland spend their weekends re-enacting medieval times as knights and grizzled warriors in their make believe world of Darkon. Darkon is also the name of this award winning documentary which tells the tale of these weekend warriors. While those that participate may be ordinary and average folks, their game is anything but ordinary. Fighting in epic acted out and strategically planned battles, these ordinary people become heroes. Darkon directors Andrew Neel and Luke Meyer spent three years on their project, “first gaining the trust and access they needed from their subjects, then tackling their ‘in-character’ fantasy world with the epic vocabulary we’ve come to expect from movies about Knights in Shining Armor.” Darkon is a full-contact medieval fantasy wargaming group, active in the Baltimore/Washington area since 1985. Every other Sunday, between 150 and 300 mem

Resources for screenwriters - 11/08/07
2007-11-08 02:09:00
Since jumping into screenwriting a few years ago with my cousin Jonathan, I’ve found the internet to be an immensely useful tool in finding great information and resources to learn from along the way. I continue to seek out and learn from new resources often and so I thought I would occasionally post links to websites which I’ve found helpful and/or useful in one way or another along the way. If you have an interest in screenwriting, I hope you’ll find something here that helps make the learning process easier for you. Screenwriting.info - I don’t think I’ve found a better site than this one so far. They teach you how to write a screenplay, how to format it and give some great advice on things you should and shouldn’t do. Hollywood Lit Sales - Here’s a nice page with some useful writings tips and things you should keep in mind. They also talk about things you need to know after finishing your script. For example - should you find an agent? Joh

Big Bad Wolf - Review
2007-11-24 09:42:34
So last night my cousin Jonathan stopped by armed with a couple indie horror flicks. The first one we popped in was so unbelievably bad right from the start that we couldn’t even finish it. Determined to watch a movie though, we decided Big Bad Wolf was going to have to be the one. It ended up being an hour and a half of our lives we can never reclaim. Where do I start? I guess we’ll start with the acting first. Perhaps the only way it could have been any worse is if you could have visibly noticed the actors reading from cue cards. The timing in which lines were delivered was enough to make you groan, and groan we did. Of course considering the ridiculous dialogue, we can’t completely blame the actors. If it was the screenwriter’s attempt to purposely write an onslaught of horrid one-liners, he most definitely succeeded. Probably the worst thing about Big Bad Wolf though was how predictable it was. As soon as we were introduced to one particularly grumpy charact

New Line to be absorbed by Warner Studios
2008-03-02 09:00:33
It’s hard to believe considering the huge success of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but according to Variety it seems New Line Cinema will soon be folded into Warner Bros. Studios , effectively causing many who worked for the 40 year old company to lose their jobs. No exact numbers have been divulged for how many [...]
