2007-01-10 07:27:00
Google has come along way since 2 Standford Computer Science Graduate students named Larry Page and Sergey Brin met nearly 12 years ago. Google's original name was BackRub named for its unique ability to analyze the "back links" pointing to a given website. Hence the term "Link Popularity".Google Then:Google Now:Today Google stock has traded in upwards of $500 per share. 99% of Google's revenue comes from Google Adwords, more commonly known as Pay Per Click. Google has shaped the way businesses advertise. Before Google, businesses had to rely on print, radio and television to get their message to potential customers. Today businesses, thanks to Google, have the ability to reach millions of internet users right from their office desks. This means that there is plenty of opportunity in terms of new business for small, medium & large businesses around the world. Get Paid to Blog?
2007-01-10 05:10:00
I recently came across a new form of Blog Monetization called PayPerPost. With PayPerPost, bloggers can monetize their blog postings by blogging on particular offers. First you need to create an account with PayPerPost, than submit your blog for approval. Once your blog has been approved, you will be able to search through a list of opportunities, make a blog posting, get your content approved, and get paid. I am seeing blog posting payouts of $5.00+. PayPerPost also has options for advertisers and publishers. They claim to have a network of thousands of independant bloggers where your link would be featured. As an advertiser, you need to provide the topic to their blog advertising network and their bloggers create stories, videos, audio or photos and post them in their individual blogs.PayPerPost publishers are provided with an API that allows for direct integration into your content management system. Each time you create a post you can create an opportunity with a few simple clicks

Eye Targeting Search Results
2007-01-09 21:21:00
There are many aspects involved in successfully driving sales and leads with Pay Per Click. From a Pay Per Click perspective, Ad Copy, Landing Pages and Keywords are crucial to success. However, many PPC advertisers do not utilize Eye Targeting in terms of ad placement in Sponsored Search . What is Eye Targeting or Eye Tracking?Eye Tracking determines what a user looks at. Using sophisticated equipment, eye tracking follows the eye movements of a person looking at any visual such as a printed ad, an application's user interface or a page on a Web site. It is used to analyze the usability and effectiveness of the layout.Below is an image of an Eye Targeting Heat Map for Search Results :If you look at the Heat Map you will see that there is an F shape in terms of the eyes natural movement when a user looks at the Search Results. Google's new Pay Per Call
2007-01-08 17:28:00
Have you conducted a search on google and noticed an ad in sponsored search that look like this?Google has started beta testing their new Click to Call advertising model. With Click to Call or Pay Per Call advertisers can enjoy a 100% response rate since the advertiser doesn't pay for the click, they pay for the call. Here's how it works: Click the phone icon or call link, and you'll be invited to enter your own phone number into a special field. When you do so and then click Connect for free, Google will call your number almost immediately. Pick up, and you'll hear ringing on the other end as Google connects you to the business you selected. When they answer, you simply talk normally as you would with any other call. You may have some concerns in regards to this advertising model so here are some questions to help you along the way.Who will get my phone number? When you enter a number, Google uses it just once: to make the automatic connection between you and the business. Your numb

Is Pay Per Click getting a bad wrap?
2007-01-08 05:14:00
I have been reading alot of articles about companies not getting the Return On Investment that they hoped from Pay Per Click . I have seen stats where companies are only getting a 75% return from Pay Per Click and this means that many companies will be re-considerating the use of Pay Per Click as a form of advertising. I believe that Pay Per Click is probably one of the most cost effective means of advertising, if utilized correctly, especially with Google Adwords. The bad wrap that pay per click has been getting tells me that these companies are not utilizing ppc correctly. The Google Adwords system is very complex, however the complexity is what makes Adwords such a wonderful marketing channel. Most companies expect to generate a profit on the initial sale and are blind to the fact that the key to long term business is client aquisition. If you calulate client aquisition into your margins, you will find that Pay Per Click is an excellent form of advertising. Not only that, Search Engi

Link Exchanges. Worth the effort?
2007-01-05 18:15:00
Link exchanges devalue the importance of the link back. One ways link are always best. Google's algo is intelligent enough to score links as quality and it makes sense that link exchanges are not scored that high. Link Exchanges are not natural links. Natural one way links help in determining whether or not your site is an authority on it's subject. There is nothing authoritative about link exchanges. Isn't the reason why your website is ranked for a particular keyword due to it being considered an authority? With SEO and other means, most rankings are achieved through SEO tactics. This wasn't what Google had in mind when they created the algo. You will see more and more sites that have ranked well in the past start to lose steam in search because these sites only serve 1 purpose. The purpose is to line the site owner's pockets, and not provide quick access to information. Focus your content, both on page and off page items, on the "USER" not search engines and your websites sear

Keyword Typos & How to Take Advantage of Them
2007-01-03 18:31:00
Google says that 10% of all searches are mispelled, so why not take advantage of these mispellings to improve your pay per click campaign. The cost of a misspelling can be upto 99% less than the correct spelling in terms of cost per click. Why add misspellings to your pay per click campaign? I say, why not! Here is a great tool that I use to help build keyword misspellings and proximity errors for my ppc campaigns. It is called GoodKeyword s.Here is some more information about the keyword misspelling feature.Use the misspelling generator to create misspellings of your keyword. What is Duplicate Content? According to Google.
2007-01-02 16:48:00
What is duplicate content?Duplicate content generally refers to substantive blocks of content within or across domains that either completely match other content or are appreciably similar. Most of the time when Google sees this, it's unintentional or at least not malicious in origin: forums that generate both regular and stripped-down mobile-targeted pages, store items shown (and -- worse yet -- linked) via multiple distinct URLs, and so on. In some cases, content is duplicated across domains in an attempt to manipulate search engine rankings or garner more traffic via popular or long-tail queries. Why does Google care about duplicate content?Google users typically want to see a diverse cross-section of unique content when they do searches. In contrast, they're understandably annoyed when they see substantially the same content within a set of search results. Also, webmasters become sad when we show a complex URL (example.com/contentredir?value=shorty-george〈=en) instead of the pre

Has the Web Directory Died?
2007-01-01 21:55:00
I have been noticing that web directory link backs are showing less and less in Google. Has Google cancelled out the web directoy backlink? It sure looks that way. I predict that in 2007 click throughs will be crucial in determing PR and link back count for sites listed in Google. That means that homepage, featured and sponsored links will be crucial in building links in 2007.

Yahoo begins Panama Roll Out
2006-12-28 20:22:00
I recently spoke to Yahoo Search Marketing in regards to project Panama . Right now, only a small percentage of advertisers have been able to upgrade their YSM accounts. So Panama is basically still in beta. During the beginning of 2007, most YSM advertisers would have already been invited and accepted into the new program with the roll out being completed by the end of Q1 2007l

Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) And SEO
2006-12-26 18:29:00
Indexing has always been considered a highly targeted science. Enter a search query into Google search and the pages that are displayed are generally optimized towards that exact word or term. However, in their continual battle to server the most relevant but most natural pages with genuinely useful information Google has injected latent semantic indexing (LSI) into its algorithms.LSI is a unique indexing method that potentially takes Google search one step closer to becoming human in its way of thinking. If we were to manually search through web pages to find information related to a given search term we would be likely to generate our own results based on the theme of the site, rather than whether a word exists or doesn't exist on the page. The extremely rigid form of "keyword indexing" also meant that black hat SEO techniques were easier to implement. Search engines could be manipulated into ranking a site highly by using set formula. Originally, cramming a page with a particular ke

2007-01-11 02:25:00
What is ad scheduling? The Google Adwords Ad Scheduling allows advertisers to have automatic control over the day and times that they wish to have their ads displayed in sponsored search. Yahoo Search Marketing Editor Guidelines Concerns
2007-01-14 15:56:00
YSM's editorial process is has been driving me crazy for years now. I am sure many advertisers have seen a number of Keywords being disapproved when submitted for approval based on relevance. These editors need to use a little more judgement instead of following a list of approval criteria. As long as YSM continues to use this type editorial process, YSM will continue to get a bad wrap in terms of their program. Let us see how Panama does. I am still testing the system out so I will provide a complete review once I have all the information to create an informative post.

Keyword Arbitrage
1970-01-01 00:59:59
What is keyword arbitrage?Keyword Arbitrage is the practice of buying low priced keywords to generate traffic to websites which contain higher priced versions of ads. For example, let us say you are utilizing a Contextual Advertising Program like Google Adsense on a website about Search Engine Optimization which displays ads that have a payout of $1.00. With keyword arbitrage, you develop a keyword list that contains low cost, relevant keywords, maybe with a cost of $0.10, in hopes of trying to generate clicks on your high paying Search Engine Optimization ads.Does keyword arbitrage work?I will honestly say that keyword arbitrage does work in terms of generating revenue if it is done correctly. Analysis and testing are the key components in terms of developing a profitable keyword arbitrage campaign. You need to be able to research high paying keywords, write content to force these contextual advertising programs to serve up those high paying ads and develop a very robust yet relevant

Video Syndication
1970-01-01 00:59:59
I recently conducted a test in regards to the use of video syndication as an online marketing channel and the results are astounding. I created a small clip of video outlining products and services with a URL watermark to increase direct traffic and I must say that I very pleased with the results. With websites like YouTube, Google Video, Yahoo Video & MSN Video, video syndication is a no brainer. The amount of traffic and brand recognition you obtain from video syndication is a highly cost effective and generally effective means of new online marketing.MarketingSherpa's 4th Annual ad:tech attendee study reveals answers from marketers who spend an average of 49% of their budget online.Six new tables and charts include data on:-> video ads-> search vs. email campaign ROI-> behavioral targeting-> Web 2.0 tactics-> affiliate marketingPlus, the answer to our favorite question, "If your boss gave you an extra $100,000 to spend on a marketing test, what would you try?"Guess what the numb

You are unable to display both Google Adsense ads and Miva Ads on the same pages. However, with Miva Ads, you would be able to display contextual ads based on industries that Google Adsense doesn't allow, i.e., adult, etc. I have recently been accepted into Miva's new publisher program so I am looking forward to testing out the program. Once I have suffucient data, I will re-post with my findings.
