Travel and Leisure Wrters Guidelines
2007-11-20 13:40:16
Company: Travel and Leisure Website: www.travelandleisure.com Email: Form Only What they are looking for: Look at several issues of the magazine and become familiar with the types of articles published in the various sections. Please note that a place is not an idea, and that editors are looking for a compelling reason to assign an article: a specific angle, news that makes the subject fresh, a writer’s enthusiasm for and familiarity with the topic. Service information is important to every destination article: when to go, how to get there, where to stay, where to eat, what to see and do. The reader must be able to follow in the author’s footsteps, and the articles are scheduled with that in mind. Please do not telephone us about story proposals. Instead send a query letter that briefly outline the ideas (no more than three at once) being proposed. Please enclose recent clips of your work and a SASE. Query letters can also be sent by filling out the form here. In most ca

2007-11-26 13:31:44
The ability to be able to interview someone is a skill every travel writer should feel comfortable with. If you have ever tried to interview someone you know that it’s a lot harder than just asking some questions. A good interview requires research, well planned questions, and good rapport. Here are some simple tips on how to interview someone. Be likeable. Spend some time getting to know your interviewee before you even start the interview. The more comfortable your interviewee feels the better the interview will go. Ask them some personal questions irrelevant to the interview and share some of your own thoughts on the answer to these questions. Explain yourself. Before the interview gets started, explain the purpose and nature of the interview. Let the interviewer know why you chose them to interview. It will help build your rapport and initiate better answers by your interviewee. Summarize. If possible, send the interviewee a short summary about the article at hand. Th

Get Paid to Review Travel Gear
2007-12-05 14:29:14
I suppose one of the next best things to being a travel writer would be to get paid to test travel gear. Now you can do just that. ePinions is a website that helps people earn money by writing reviews of products, locations, hotels, and more. Currently (December 2007) they are offering $10 for 10 product reviews. The reviews only have to be a minimum of 200 words. That’s less than half a page! You can write up to 100 reviews during the month of December, earning you a total of $100. In addition to money paid upfront for these reviews, you also earn passive income. ePinions also pays you for the number of pageviews your review receives. So, in theory you will continually earn money from the reviews you write. It may not be much, but it’s a good start to practicing writing reviews; a skill every travel writer needs.
