Speaking of Thanks…
2007-11-19 08:18:38
Have I mentioned that Thanks giving is not the only special day to our family this week? You see, this Friday is a day of remembrance and thanks for an event that took place eleven years ago. On November 23rd, 1996, the prayer of a 15 year old boy was answered (after 10 yrs.), when Scott and I said “I do.” I dedicate this post to my husband Scott, whom I will love and cherish until the day I die. Scott is a wonderful husband and father, and I thank the Lord for him. Scott is a man of character, conviction, and most importantly, a man of God. His faith, strength, courage, and sense of humor help me to press on each day.   I like the fact that our wedding anniversary is right at Thanksgiving. That way, we can never forget to give thanks for each other! God Bless you, Honey. I love you very much!

Thankfulness Begins With…
2007-11-14 10:29:29
&hellip ;the acceptance of a Savior’s love… How can we not be thankful, when we think of Jesus and what He has done for us?! Last night, a very loved and cherished hymn kept coming to my mind and filling my heart with such gratitude. In my college days, I used to attend church with my best friend Pooja, and every time we would have Communion, we would sing this hymn. When I think of His love, I can’t help but think of the following song: ____________________________________________________________________________ When I Survey The Wondrous Cross (Words-Isaac Watts; Music-Lowell Mason) When I survey the wondrous cross On which the Prince of glory died, My richest gain I count but loss, And pour contempt on all my pride. Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast, Save in the death of Christ my God! All the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to His blood. See from His head, His hands, His feet, Sorrow and love flow mingled down! Did e’er such love and so

The Joy of Thankfulness…
2007-11-12 07:55:03
Are we missing out on the joy of life, because we do not have an attitude of thankfulness? How can we have joy, if we are too busy grumbling about what we don’t have?! We can try to blame situations, circumstances, others, and even the devil for “stealing our joy,” yet no one or nothing can really “steal the joy” of a believer who has a thankful attitude. We give up our own joy when we choose to be thankless instead of thankful! O.k., so I have committed to speaking at my church this Wednesday night on the topic of “Joy In A Thankful Attitude.” Of course, this past week, I have had several frustrating things to happen to test my joyful and thankful attitude. I would like to say that I passed all these tests “with flying colors,” but I try not to lie! However, even though my first response was not always a positive one, I was actually catching on by the second or third response to a situation! So, I am improving with the Lord&

Sarah is just a “wee-bit” protective over her younger brother, Kerry. If he gets the least bit hurt, Sarah dotes over Kerry like a “mother hen!” Can you “see the love” in this picture below?! Also, check out how much older they both look; especially Sarah! I just think she looks so grown up in this picture…

Comments From Kerry’s Corner…
2007-11-07 07:46:54
He’s cute, he’s funny, and he’s my little Kerry . From his small corner of the world, let’s see what Kerry has to share with us today: ____________________________________________________________________ Sarah: “A spider can’t eat you!” Kerry: “But it sure can take some little bites of you!!” **Note: Can you argue with that logic? ____________________________________________________________________ –Little Kerry and I were still at the table eating. Kerry: “Mommy, you and I are ’slow-pokes,’ and Daddy and Sarah are just ‘fast-pokes’!“ ____________________________________________________________________ –I was trying to bake a pumpkin pie, and couldn’t seem to get it right (burnt on the edges, yet still a little squishy in the middle–yeah, I’m still working on the “cooking thing”). Our Learning Lair…

&hellip ;This is where it all takes place! I haven’t posted any photos of our classroom before, so today, I thought I would share a few. Below is a photo of part of our kitchen/classroom (this picture along with the others were actually taken at the beginning of last school year). ____________________________________________________________________ In the picture above, you may see several posters, our school computer, and our printer/copier. If you have been a homeschooling mom for any length of time, and you are able to read the “School Rules, ” you’re probably laughing hysterically by now or at least chuckling a little. Yes, the first two rules about “raising your hand” and “staying in your seat” aren’t really adhered to anymore. I still expect the kids to use some manners and to share, and “No Whining,” and “Try, Try, Try, and Try Again” are the most important rules to me. I love being able t

Is This The American Dream…
2007-11-04 18:59:12
&hellip ;or is this “more like a nightmare?” I can’t help it, but every time I hear this song, it “cuts me to the core.” Every time I hear it, I feel such a sadness for families in our country. I admit too, that this song is a reminder to me that none of us are “above” falling into this trap. However, it is my goal not to let society tell me what being “rich” is, but instead to let God lead me in determining the truth… Check out these lyrics: __________________________ “American Dream ” By: Casting Crowns All work no play may have made Jack a dull boy But all work no God has left Jack with a lost soul But he’s moving on full steam He’s chasing the American dream And he’s gonna give his family finer things “Not this time son I’ve no time to waste Maybe tomorrow we’ll have time to play” And then he slips into his new BMW And drives farther and farther and farther away Cause he work

“The Needle in the Haystack…”
2007-11-04 18:18:54
&hellip ;or was it &ldquo ;the straw that broke the camel’s back?&rdquo ; Read on, and you’ll see what I mean. I did something silly and absent-minded the other day, that could have been a “real headache” for me… I went to get the lawn mower out of the shed, when I was distracted by something. I looked up and noticed that a small tree had fallen over onto our fence, so I went over to remove the tree. I picked it up a little , which proved to be more difficult than imagined, since a couple of small branches were hung on the fence. However, I managed to free the tree and flung it over the fence… I immediately noticed that the tree was not all that I had flung over the fence! You remember how I went outside to do something else–to remove the lawn mower from the barn? Well, you see, the barn door key had been in my hand when I threw the tree over the fence, so I suppose you can guess what else went right along! So, now a very small, tarnishe

Kids–”Ya Gotta Love ‘Em!”
2007-11-02 13:11:22
As many of you know, I’ve been sharing kid’s stories for the better part of a year now. My kids certainly have brought a lot of humor and joy to my life, and I love remembering these times and sharing them with others. Well, the other day, I came across the following kid’s stories. I had shared these (via email) with a few of you several months ago, but most of you haven’t seen them. Hope you enjoy! Originally posted via email on Friday, February 09, 2007 Just thought I’d start sharing cute and sorta funny stories about my “youngin’s&rdquo ;…….. One day a few weeks ago while I was in the kitchen, little Kerry had climbed up on the piano and gotten down the glass from a hurricane lamp. He went running through the living room, tripped over the dog, dropped the glass and broke it; cutting his hands. We thought he had learned his lesson when he said he would never do that again. Until the other day when he informed us of what

Kerry’s Quotes For The Day…
2007-11-02 12:44:16
&hellip ;Here’s a few of Kerry ’s one-two liners from the past 24 hours. (What can I say? When he’s not “cracking me up,” he’s “blessing my heart!”) –The kids and I were sitting at the kitchen table, when we saw two deer on the other side of our fence in the backyard. Kerry enthusiastically says, “Those deer are so beautiful …and brown!” __________________________ –Kerry was in his room getting dressed after his evening bath. From the living room, I hear him exclaim, “God Bless My Heart!“ “Why did you say that?” I ask. Kerry says, “‘Cause I got hurt, remember?!–See the boo-boo on my arm?!” ___________________________ –Last night, when I was putting Kerry to bed, his words brought tears to my eyes. …And no, surprisingly this time, the tears weren’t from hilarious laughter. You see, Kerry has more than one way of “getting to” Momm

Kids Count Too…
2007-11-21 22:11:58
&hellip ;Yep, I’m still referring to counting those blessings! The kids and I went for a walk on this beautiful day, here in the Carolinas. As we walked, I asked the kids to each give me a thankful list… Sarah says: I am thankful for: –Fall –Mommy and Daddy –Jesus –bunnies –”deers” –”gooses” –food –Thanksgiving –Grandparents _________________________ Kerry says: I am thankful for: –God –my Spiderman shoes –my family –trees –grass –couches –candy –EVERYTHING!! ___________________________ We walked by a pond and Kerry exclaims, “Hey Mr. Gooses, hey Mrs. Gooses!!” When we finished our walk, the kids wanted to literally climb a tree… So, believe or not, guess where Mommy was after a little while? Yeah, I can’t believe it either! But you know what, you can’t help but see things from a new perspective when you’re u

More Comments From Kerry’s Corner…

–The other day, Kerry fell into the corner of the piano stool and got a nasty bruise on his forehead. Later that same day, the kids were having chocolate pudding after lunch. Kerry says, “I hope this chocolate pudding goes straight to my head–I mean my forehead–so it will feel better!” __________________________ –One day this week, we had some forest friends to visit our backyard. There were several deer on the other side of our fence, and one had even jumped the fence. …Well, in this post, I could write about some of the struggles and troubles weighing on my heart, but “N-a-a-h!!” Who wants to read that stuff, right?! …And who wants to focus on it either?! O.k., I’ll be honest. I was going to write about some of that “stuff,” but then I read this email from my cousin, Tiffany. She sent me a devotional by Max Lucado, entitled “The Journey.” I agree with Mr. Lucado, when he states, “I can endure the journey, because I know the destiny…” When we reach our final destination, the trials we once faced will quickly be forgotten!! Glory Hallelujah–Praise Be To God!! You may read “The Journey” here. Also, you may visit Max Lucado’s website over here.

Sarah got a free balloon at the grocery store today. On her own, she attached a note to it and released it up into the sky. Before Sarah let the balloon go, I sneaked a peek at her note, and this is what it said: Dear Jesus, I love you. You are very, very, very, very, very, very sweet to me. Thank you for dying on the cross for us. Love, Sarah After Sarah completed her note and attached it, she ran outside to the backyard. “Mommy, Kerry, come quick!!” she called, “Ooh, I just can’t wait for Jesus to get this!” As the balloon rose higher, Sarah exclaimed, “Wow, look at it go–there it goes–straight to Heaven!!“

This morning a familiar song is playing in my head, and it’s one that I’m surprised I haven’t posted before (I thought I had). Anyway, just after all these posts on thankfulness and the Thanksgiving holidays, one might wonder why I would be posting this particular song. Well, reflecting on this song certainly doesn’t mean that I’m not thankful, nor does it mean that this year or even this last month has been “smooth sailing.” I know I’ve often been vague about our struggles, but I think I’ll be sharing more about them, little by little and “by and by…” ___________________________ We’ll Understand It Better By and By (Words and Music by: Charles A. What are kids really saying? They have their own terminology sometimes, don’t they? Here’s some more of my kid’s frequently used words and definitions: **Note: These words can be added to the Kid’s Code originally posted here. ____________________________________________________________________________ KID’S CODE: ____________________________________________________________________________ 1. “Berba King” -n (known to others as “Burger King”) 1. A sailboat 3. “Pleano” -n (Kerry’s word–known to others as “piano”) 1. a musical instrument (which the family loves to hear Daddy play). 2. It’s About The Cross…
2007-12-14 21:00:02
Psalm 96: 1.O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth. 2 Sing unto the LORD, bless his name; shew forth his salvation from day to day. 3 Declare his glory among the heathen, his wonders among all people. 4 For the LORD is great, and greatly to be praised: he is to be feared above all gods. 5 For all the gods of the nations are idols: but the LORD made the heavens. 6 Honour and majesty are before him: strength and beauty are in his sanctuary. 7 Give unto the LORD, O ye kindreds of the people, give unto the LORD glory and strength. 8 Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come into his courts. This past Wednesday night at our church, Pastor Jim read and taught from the above mentioned Psalm 96. Verse eight says to “Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name&hellip ;” While reading this verse, I could not help but think about how Christmas is supposed to be about Christ, yet too often this is the time He’s so

O Holy Night

Luke 2:8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. 10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. O Holy Night (Placide Cappeau/Adolphe Adam, 1847) O holy night, the stars are brightly shining; It is the night of the dear Savior's birth! Long lay the world in sin and error pining, Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth. A thrill of hope, the weary soul rejoices, For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn. Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices! O night divine, O night when Christ was born! O night, O holy night, O night divine! Led by the light of faith serenely beaming, With glowing hearts by His cradle we st

Cutie and Brownie…

&hellip ;are early Christmas presents for the kids. A sweet couple from our church brought these new pets to our children last night. Sarah had been asking about them all day long: “When are they coming? When will they be here? Why is it taking so long?!” Well, last night, Cutie and Brownie finally arrived to join our family and spend their first night in their new home. Cutie is a huge Goldfish and Brownie is a brown Placo fish. The following is the story that Sarah wrote about them this morning: My Fish By: Sarah Hi, I’m Cutie. Let me tell you about me. I have a new family now. And guess what! I’m a Goldfish! I look so pretty. I have a friend, named Brownie. Me and Brownie love to play. But we are different. Gotta Teach That Boy To Read!

Little Kerry was looking through one of Sarah’s reading books this morning, when he suddenly got upset.  He came across a story about a young boy on summer vacation.  Kerry was thumbing through; looking at the pictures, when he suddenly yells out: “Oh, no!! He’s Not Stealing This Christmas!
2007-12-11 20:45:15
…Not this time…not this year…not this Christmas !! Who or what am I referring to, you may ask. Well, I am referring to the devil wanting to steal our Christmas joy and peace! Any of you seen the kid’s T.V. Christmas special, “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” ? Yeah, I thought you might have. Anyway, you see, to me, the devil is like the Grinch. Of course, he can’t stand Christmas, and he will do anything he can to take away from the true reason for the season! Of course, the devil also can’t stand all the “peace, joy, and goodwill” going around either! He will also do anything he can to distract us from Jesus; to get us focused on the wrong things. It is not hard to recognize when we are letting the evil one have his way. A good indicator is when we end up a “stressed out mess;” you know, like a jumbled, tangled ball of Christmas tree lights. But as Christians, we know that there is only one perfect gift

Do We Choose To See The Goodness?
2007-12-11 19:30:28
Psalm 33: 1 Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright. 2 Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings. 3 Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise. 4 For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth. 5 He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD. 6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. 7 He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses. 8 Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. 9 For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast. I read the above passage in my “quiet time” today, while the kids were playing at the park. Today was a very gorgeous, unseasonably warm day, and the kids and I took “full advantage” after their
