Voodoo Lily Bloomed
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Amoungs the caos my voodoo lily sprouted a three foot tall bloom ! I quickly had to remove it from the house to the greenhouse as nobody could stand the smell. These flowers smell like something died and is decaying. Still they are so beautiful to watch grow through the cycle of tree to flower.

Another New Child
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Christmas bought us another little girl to join our family. This is Catherine. She is 8 years old and is the biological sibling of Tommy who joined us a few months ago. Actually Tommy and Catherine are two of a set of triplets. We had been pondering what one would call this as twins doesn't fit. A good friend of mine gave me the term "doublets" to use so here's my doublets of triplets. Aren't they cute ? Tommy is thrilled that they are once again together.

Christmas Light Displays
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Each year usually the week before Christmas our family has a tradition of piling into the bus and traveling around to view everybodys Christmas displays. When they are through they come back home and we have hot cocoa and home made cookies ready to be devoured. The photo here shows most of the younger kids at a house they visit each year that allows people to walk all around their property and see the different displays. The Santa is our son Joey ( down syndrome) who always dresses up as Santa each year and hands out candy canes to children at the various houses.

Joey as Santa
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Joey has been dressing up as Santa since he was 7 years old. It all started years ago in another state and home we lived in. Usually my husband would dress up and stand outside in front of the house to wave and hand out candycanes. One night right after dinner we were missing Joey. We couldn't find him in the house anywhere ! When we looked outside , there he was taking his fathers place, completely dressed from head to toe as Santa. The suit was so big on him and he looked so cute we didn't have the heart to stop him. As you can see he fits in a santa suit fine these days. He dressed each night for the week before Christmas and sat out in front of the house waving to cars that stopped to see our Christmas displays and handing out candy canes. One night though I had to bring him in as he was causing such a ruckus out there. When I went to see what was going on I found Joey promising cars of people things like free health insurance , million dollar bank accounts and free meals for

New Years Eve

Our Years .htm">New Years Eve Party this year consisted of 15 cans of silly string , lots of noise makers and fireworks on the lakefront. The kids had a great time.

Joey trying to convince me as to why he should get more computer time than the others. His answer was because he's 22 and the others are younger.

Family Visits / Osteogenesis Imperfecta
1970-01-01 00:59:59
The family Max lived with for 3 years after arriving here from Russia came to visit him while they were visiting in Florida. Max will be going back into Shriners this month to have his right leg rodded. He has had to stop walking and use his wheelchair for the last month due to the bone in his leg being very near fracturing through the skin. At this point the bone is V shaped and one wrong move on it is going to cause some serious damage. He has grown 2 inches and gained 3 pounds since his last surgery about 6 months ago. Once his leg is healed from surgery they will start the rodding procedures on his arms.

Anticipation
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Don't these kids look so angelic as they sit in anticipation to open gifts on Christmas Eve ? I know , I know , why the day before ? Hint : mom and dad don't want to be woken up before dawn with kids demanding to open presents. Long ago we decided Christmas Eve was better. This way the gifts are opened and in the morning they can get up and play quietly. Sneaky , aren't we ?

Blizzard in a Bucket
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Since we don't get snow here in Florida I bought this as a gag gift for the kids at Christmas. It ended up being a hit. Even I couldn't resist playing with it. So much fun !!! Even better if you pop it in the freezer for awhile to give it that extra special cold effect. They take it out everyday now and play with it for awhile , then back in the freezer it goes.

Teens and Cell Phones
1970-01-01 00:59:59
I have determined that I have crazy crazy kids. For Christmas we bought three of them cell phones. Now I really wavered back and forth on whether to do so as who knows what kind of trouble two of these could get into with cell phones. They just have this aura that attracts trouble their way. The other thing I worried about was of course the monthly bill. We came to an agreement after the fact that they would be responsible for paying their own monthly bill by completing chores around here. So far so good but do you know how Joseph and Matthew are using their phones ? They call me and Bob. Yup , these crazy kids call us from their bedroom , the front porch, sometimes standing right next to us. If Bob is out they call him to ask where he is and when he'll be back. Somehow I just don't think their cell phone bill is going to be a problem. I even got two calls from Joseph yesterday checking to see if his phone was working as nobody is calling him. Hello son....have you give

One Less Child
1970-01-01 00:59:59
To bring everybody up to date as to all the happenings around here during the time I was unable to post on the old blog site , we have one less child living here. We needed to have Mario , the last teen who joined us and was originally adopted from Romania removed and placed in residential care. Unfortunately , there are some children whom we cannot have live here. Our priority here has to always remain that all our children remain safe and having Mario here put our kids in danger. The part that really aggravates me is that DCF knew of his problems , his first family knew of his problems and yet it was decided that this vital piece of information be held from us. Maybe some day when my heart heals from the wounds of this incident I'll share the story but right now some things are best left unsaid.

2007 Goals
1970-01-01 00:59:59
I am so glad the holidays are over and we can get back to everyday "normal" life around here. Today I finally got around to doing some major after Christmas clean up. For the past several weeks all the kids new games and toys were delegated to a pile on the kitchen counter. I think the only thing I managed to put away after the holidays were any new clothing the kids received. Today I can finally see my countertop. All the outdoor holiday decorations were packed away yesterday. Now I need to start making some 2007 goals for each of the kids. Joseph and Nathan are ready to take their drivers ed tests. Just what I need , two more to worry about on the road. Joseph also needs to start looking for a job and decide on what he plans to do with his future. This one seems to think to be a grown up with no responsibilities and have somebody else meet all your needs is a good goal. Matthews' goal is to be a "hustler" , seriously these two are influenced by every movie they see or mus

Attitude Adjustments
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Kids had their bowling awards party this morning. All were anxious to go. Now we start a new season and perhaps we can get some of the older teens interested in going. The weather is warming up here and although early there is a hint of Spring in my garden. I noticed our peach and apple trees already have flowers. Can't risk planting anything though cause we still need to get through February. Kids are really getting into going through the gardening catalogs as they arrive in the mail always looking for something new to try growing. I told Max that this year we will use the kids sand/water table as a raised garden for him to try growing radishes ans maybe carrots. At least then I can have it on the deck and since he's going to be in a wheelchair for a bit after surgery he will still be able to do some gardening. Had to do some serious attitude adjustments around here with my yahoos. Seems two are acquiring too many "new things" without being able to explain where they are

Triangulation & Tough Love
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Ebony has been in her residential placement for just over a week now and already she is playing the triangulation game. She has become really good at manipulating people to do things her way. She may have schizophrenia but she is not stupid. It's a shame that they cannot help her to harness that intelligence to help herself. Last night she called home and spoke with Bob telling him that she has "earned" a home pass. Bob told her no as we have not even been called yet to meet with the treatment team as to what goals to set up for her. Tonight she calls and talks with me. She tells me Dad said she could come home this weekend and so does her psychiatrist. I told her no also. I then had to put up with her verbal abuse until I could get a word in edgewise. I told her that first I do not understand WHY or HOW she could manage to earn a pass to come home when she was just released from residential in November and between then and now we needed to have her Baker Acted four times.
