Parents of US Troops Journey to Iraq
2006-12-27 20:32:31
An organization called Move America Forward put together a trip that carried some parents of US troops to Iraq .  The reason is because the parents wanted to know where their child was killed and that maybe they could better understand what happened.  This group left in early November but was only able to make it to Arbil, which is the capital of Kurdistan in Norther Iraq.  Sadr City, which is the area the parents wanted to go was too dangerous.  However, the local government and troops showed great support to the parents for their sacrifice.  The group is looking to return some time in the near future, except they hope this time more families will join them.  The trip cost over $5000 per person but most of the parents received donations from across the US which included checks from soldiers!

US Deaths in Iraq Surpass Those from the 9/11 Attacks
2006-12-26 19:53:15
On Christmas day four more US soldiers died which put the death toll at 2,977 since the beginning of the Iraq war in early 2003.  This death toll surpassed the 9/11 attacks which claimed the lives of 2,973 people from various countries(which includes 2,749 from the towers, 184 from pentagon crash, and 80 on United Flight 93).  President Bush is saying that we must stay on the offensive in order to keep the terrorists from attacking US soil again, which in turn puts our brave soldiers in harms way.  So while the debate continues here as to whether or not the US should still be fighting in Iraq, our soldiers are over there fighting nevertheless.  Let us not forget the sacrifice the soldiers are making for us everyday, because they are the ones on the front line, not the politicians that are over here confused about what direction we need to be heading.  God Bless our American Soldiers!!!

Patients Beware: Your Doctor May Be Suffering from Lack of Sleep
2006-12-22 15:12:38
According to a study doctors present a greater risk to patients after they have worked long shifts.  Some of the doctors confessed that after they work 24 hours straight they sometimes forget things, look up the wrong drugs and in one case the doctor poked herself with a needle.  Residents say that the reason they have to work long shifts is because they are considered “cheap labor”.  Also, the transfer of patients between doctors is a risk to patients and has even caused a few deaths.  So, for the safety of the patient doctors need to cut down on their long shifts and need a proper procedure for patient transfer.   more info >>

Beware of These Internet Hacker Scams in 2007
2006-12-21 17:43:25
Experts believe that in 2007 internet hackers will find new avenues to scam people.  Right now hackers use email to try and get personal information from individuals and businesses.  But in 2007, hackers will use instant messaging, online community websites (like MySpace) and cell phones to commit their fraudulent activities.  The main concern for security experts is the use of cell phones, because once they are hacked into it will be easy to obtain email addresses, contacts and other personal information.  It is going to be very difficult, if not impossible, to track down these hackers.  The reason is because the internet offers hackers speed and anonymity which is required for them to make money fast while maintaining secrecy.  more info >>

Early Release As Possible Solution to California's Prison System Problem?
2006-12-20 15:29:25
California has the largest prison system in the United States, housing 170, 000 inmates.  As of now they are operating at 70% over their designed inmate capacity, and some experts are saying the inmates and guards are at risk due to this problem.  Therefore, a federal court is giving California 6 months to greatly reduce the number of inmates.  California state officials have sent some inmates to other states, but due to the overcrowding of most states in the US it will be almost impossible to transfer enough inmates to satisfy the federal ruling.  Another option that was mentioned is the early release of inmates, which I personally hope is an option they do not choose.  more info >>

NBA News: Knicks and Nuggets Brawl
2006-12-18 22:35:28
I found this youtube video that shows the brawl between the New York Knicks and the Denver Nuggets that started after a pretty serious foul.  Either way, something needs to be done besides a slap on the wrist.  Carmelo Anthony (who did the most fighting IMO) only got suspended 15 games!  For such a serious action in a professional sport the actions should be alot more harsh.  Here is the video:

Are TV Ads Really Influencing Young Children?
2006-12-15 15:20:42
Do you ever sit down and watch cartoons or other kid shows with your children and see a beer commercial or Viagra commercial?  Why advertise on those stations unless kids are the target.  I know we can’t always provide excuses for the actions of children, but when they are constantly exposed to alcohol, sex and junk food what doyou expect their actions to be?  The American Academy of Pediatrics is suggesting the Congress crack down on these TV ads because they say these ads are causing children to have eating disorders and alcohol problems.  While I do  not know for sure the truth behind their accusations, I do believe that these ads need to quit targeting children!  more info >>

FBI Brings Whole New Meaning to the Phrase "Can You Hear Me Now"
2006-12-14 19:26:07
The FBI , with a court order, has been approved by the United States Department of Justice to use cell phones as a means to listen to conversations.  This can be accomplished even if the cell phones are off and the only known way of bypassing this technique is to remove the battery.  The conversations that can be listened to are not only from the ones spoken through the phone, but if the phone is close to a person their conversation can also be heard.  This could prove to be beneficial and terrifying at the same time.  A good thing is that this technique helped put some mobsters in jail, but a bad thing is that you never know who is listening to your conversations.  And I am not just talking about the FBI.  Once hackers figure out this technique, they will be able to use this to make loads of money.  more info >>

John Edwards Decides to Run for President
2006-12-28 18:13:19
John Edwards just announced he is going to run in the 2008 presidential race.  Edwards believes the United States is unstable and needs to re-establish its leadership role.  Edwards is looking to put cuts on poverty and global warming while increasing support for community service.  Though John Edwards did vote to go to war with Iraq he is now regretting that decision due to the leadership in the war under President Bush.  Therefore, Edwards wants to cut back on the troops in Iraq.  Edwards also criticized the Bush administration saying that they did not do enough during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. This could put Edwards running against Senator Kerry if in fact Kerry decides to re-run for President.  Also, Edwards will have a lot of grounds to make up if he is to compete with Clinton and Obama, both of which have gained a lot of support.  It comes as no surprise that Bush and his administration would be used in campaigning for the 2008 Presidential race, especially s

Polymer Gel to Help Protect Against HIV/AIDS
2006-12-28 21:23:04
Researchers are working on a polymer gel that when rubbed around the vaginal area will createa thin protective layer, similar to that of a condom.  The difference is that when semen comes in contact with this polymer gel a lethal dose (to the HIV virus) of chemicals is released.  As of now this technology is still years in the making but is showing pretty decent results.  Researchers say the gel will more than likely not be 100 percent effective, but the goal is to have it prove over 90 percent effective.  The best part about this technology is that it gives women the means of protecting themselves instead of always having to rely on their partner.  However, for now the condom is still the most successful at protecting against HIV/AIDS .  Also, if these results are successful then researchers say it is possible to use the same concept to help protect against pregnancy.  more info >>

2007-01-01 23:49:22
Apple is facing a lawsuit allegedly accusing them of creating an illegal monopoly with iTunes .  It states that Apple is using a copy protection on their iPod that prevents other players from using iTunes.  However, this is not the only lawsuit Apple is facing.  There is a lawsuit that states the Apple iBook G4 is failing way too often.  Apple has yet to respond to this complaint stating it is too soon to do so.  There are others including a lawsuit by PhatRat Technology suing Apple for patent infringement & a lawsuit against some of Apple’s officers on stock option grants.  The media is still waiting for Apple to respond!

Democrats Take Over Congress With Much Support!
2007-01-04 15:10:38
The Democrats are set to take over congress today, and according to several polls they have plenty of support from the American people.  Under Speaker of House Nancy Pelosi the Democrats have stated that they are going to move quick and will be introducing new bills within the first 100 hours. Here is a list of bills they will be introducing: Raise minimum wage by $2.10 per hour Decrease tax breaks for the oil industry (Use that money for energy research) Implement homeland security recommendations as stated in the 9/11 commission Cut the interest rates for student loans Allow the prescription drug administrators to negotiate with pharmaceutical companies for lower drug prices I personally support and agree with each of those bills, and it should prove to be beneficial to al Americans.  Tax breaks to oil companies should have been cut a long time ago, and with the money Congress will get from decreasing those tax breaks will be put toward researching alternative energy sources. Al Qaeda Calls on Terrorists to Attack Somalia
2007-01-05 16:12:06
A video from Ayman al-Zawahiri, one of Al Qaeda ’s leaders, is calling on Muslims around the Middle East to attack the Ethiopian forces in Somalia .  In the video Ayman tells the Muslims to use mines, ambushes and suicide attacks during the jihad against Somalia, and says to continue these attacks until “you rend and eat your prey as the lion does with his prey.” Zawahiri says that Somalia Muslims will need men, money and experience in order to defeat the Ethiopian forces.  Zawahiri even calls the Ethiopian forces “slaves of America”.  He also mentions how in the 1992 - 1994 US military campaign in Somalia the US was defeated, and since, according to Zawahiri, the US military is weak from the current war in Iraq and Afghanistan they should be relatively weak. Toward the end of the video Zawahiri also claims they will win the war in both Afghanistan and Iraq against the United States, but that the people need to be patient and hold steadfast.  I am sure t

Apple iPod Phone Should be Unveiled Early in 2007
2007-01-05 22:59:15
This new iPod will not only deliver music and videos, but it will also act as a cell phone too.  There is nothing official as of yet, but many think that the Apple iPod phone could be introduced this January, or at least sometime in early 2007. Some people are wondering why there is so much hype over a phone that can play music and videos.  Actually, cell phone manufacturers already offer phones with those capabilities.  However, what if Apple could due to the cell phone what it has done with the iPod?  Apple is well known for making technology that is easy to use and offers tons of features, and that is what people would expect if Apple started to make cell phones. So while all of the talk is just speculation it is exciting at the thought of a cell phone created by Apple with the features similar to that of an iPod.  Therefore there are going to be many eyes on Apple to see if they are truly going to produce the highly anticipated iPhone.

Breaking News: Britney Spears & Kevin Federline Actually Agree on Something!
2007-01-06 05:12:37
Britney Spears and Kevin Federline have come to an agreement on the custody of their kids, at least for this month!  At first Britney will have the children for a week, which according to the court papers she will be carrying them to Miami. After that Kevin Federline will be allowed to visit the children, however, he will only be able to visit them on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays from 12:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at Britney’s house.  This agreement is set to expire at the end of January. Though Britney has not agreed yet, Kevin is only wanting the children (of course), Britney, her assistant, the nanny and other house staff to be present in the house during his custody time.  Wow, that sounds like some nice father bonding times! I normally do not post about Britney or her idiot ex-husband, but the fact that they came to an agreement shocked me, so I decided to write about it.  Let’s just see if the same agreement can be made after the end of January, even though neither

Donald Trump Now Being Attacked By Barbara Walters
2007-01-10 19:54:52
Everyone is aware of the Donald Trump - Rosie Odonnell feud that has been going on for the past month which started when Rosie Odonnell made comments about Donald Trump on ABC’s “The View”.  Well, Barbara Walters is also apart of “The View” and is getting in on the action by attacking Donald Trump. Ok first off, Donald Trump called Barbara Walters a liar and wrote a letter to Rosie Odonnell explaining his reasoning for calling her that.  One of Trump’s comments in the letter said that Barbara Walters told him that working with Rosie Odonnell on “The View” was like “living in Hell”.  Donald Trump also tried to explain to Rosie that Walters had been lying to both of them and that she also told him not to worry about Rosie Odonnell because she will not be on “The View” for long. Barbara Walters is apparently denying that she told Trump any of the comments he accused her of and she even said on “The View̶

Most people new that Apple was going to announce the unveiling of the iPhone, but they were just unaware of when it would happen.  However, Apple did not stop at just announcing the new iPhone.  Apple CEO Steve Jobs also announced a TV set-up box that will allow users to send videos from a computer to a television.  With these new technologies Apple Computer has changed its name to Apple Inc.

Oil Companies Take Hit from Congress
2007-01-09 15:18:38
Oil companies are expected to be hit hard by Congress , which is now under Democratic majority.  According to Congress they have a plan to reduce the amount of royalties and taxes that Oil companies are saving money on and use that money as a fund for renewable energy and conservation. The reason oil companies are protected from paying royalties is because of a government error during the writing of the 1998 to 1999 leases.  So Congress is trying to rework the lease and if that fails they could ban oil companies from bidding on leases in the future. Another hit oil companies are going to take will happen when Congress reduces the amount of tax breaks they receive.  Tax breaks (gives breaks to companies with products produced in the United States) were put in place to help out the manufacturing companies, but the oil companies found a way to also be eligible for them and is saving millions every year. I am glad that Congress is stepping up to do something about these greedy oil compan

Embryo Screening Used to Create Babies with Disabilities
2007-01-08 15:31:18
Embryo screening has been going on for some time now and has continued to be a controversial topic.  But now there is a procedure to where parents can choose to have their child be born with the same disabilities that they have (such has being a dwarf, deaf, etc.).  These parents believe that they are not disabled and that there way of life would provide the best for their children.  However, is this a personal reason or is it truly best for their children?  But the real issue is to whether or not embryo screening, especially in this situation, is unethical or not?  Also, where do you draw the line if parents are allowed to make these decisions that will drastically effect the outcome of that baby’s life?  In my opinion this seems a little too extreme and hopefully someone will step in and stop, because this procedure is already being performed by several medical facilities!  more info >>
