Revealed: Ferrari FXX Evoluzione 2007-11-06 09:08:18
Following earlier reports, Ferrari
unveiled a new, modified version of the super-Enzo during this past weekend’s Ferrari World Finals at its Mugello race track in Italy. As the name suggests, FXX Evoluzione is a further evolution of the FXX program that places “client test drivers” (i.e. obscenely wealthy Ferrari aficionados playing Schumacher) behind the wheel of developmental test beds to try out new equipment for Ferrari. In fact, Schumacher himself was reportedly on hand to unveil the car, having sporadically participated in the program over the past two years. The FXX Evoluzione picks up where the “ordinary” FXX program left off, extending the program by an additional two years, based on an even more radical version of the track-only machine. With 35,000 kilometers worth of telemetry from the 20 cars, engineers compiled a series of tweaks to sharpen the car’s capabilities. Output is boosted to a staggering 860 HP, redline is up to a shrieking 9
Alfa Romeo 159 TI revives a historical sporting badge on its latest 159 variant. 2007-11-06 08:38:31 A legend is back at Alfa Romeo. The TI badge now appears on the 159 saloon. Short for Turismo Internazionale, the discreet two-letter label is reserved for only the most sporty and luxurious models in the range.
To mark the occasion, the Italian manufacturer has fitted the newcomer with an upgraded version of its 2.4-litre JTD diesel engine. It now produces 210bhp – up 10bhp on the old unit. Sports suspension has also been added, alongside cosmetic up-grades inside and out.
However, the Alfa faces stiff competition from prestige challengers such as the accomplished BMW 3-Series and new Audi A4. So are the revisions enough to allow the 159 to take on these premium class leaders?
If the answer was based on looks alone, the Italian should have its rivals well and truly beaten. At the front is the traditional heart-shaped grille, flanked by six circular headlamps sitting beneath a menacing brow. Move around the car and you’ll be struck by the neat design details – such as the a Read more:revives

World Exclusive First Drive! Lamborghini Reventon 2007-11-04 09:07:08 The “jet fighter for the street” concept has been around since the late 1970s, the ill-fated, never really worked Vector being the most obvious attempt. Three decades later it has finally arrived, thanks to Lamborghini
.
The otherworldly Reventon is named after a particularly feisty fighting bull. With just 20 production cars to be made (11 coming to the U.S.), it’ll be Lamborghini’s most exclusive road car ever. Other “mosts” include price ($1.4-plus million at current exchange rates), and speed (210-plus mph).
The main inspiration for this most arresting of automotive shapes was the F22 Raptor. Well, duh! Manfred Fitzgerald, Lamborghini’s director of brand and design and the man who’s carefully guided the company’s resurgence over the past decade, was at a European NATO base with his design team.
“We had a good contact with the base manager (and) sat in Tornados and different aircraft to get some inspiration,” Fitzger Read more:World

White Flash: Edo Competition 599/630 GTB 2007-11-04 00:57:55 The sorcerers at Germany’s Edo Competition have cast their spells on the Ferrari 599 GTB, and as usual, the results are impressive. The Edo Competition GTB comes in two flavors, but let’s cover the common ground, first. The car gets lowered 40mm in back, 40 mm in front, and gets added stick courtesy of an Edo/KW adjustable sport suspension. 20″ wheels with stainless outer rims can be custom-painted in any shade the owner desires, and the V12’s song is newly amplified thanks to a sport exhaust with a driver-controllable butterfly valve. Want it to be louder? Just dial it up, baby.
Of course, the most important piece of the puzzle is the 6.0L Enzo-derived V12 under that long hood. In stock trim, it blasts out 620 horsepower. Edo customers can opt for the Level 1 “F599 GTB” engine upgrade, which combines intake and exhaust work with ECU reprogramming to boost output to 650 horses. Those with deeper pockets and/or looking for a more extreme level of tune Read more:White

SEMA 2007: Get your checkbook ready! You can buy the Ugliest. Mustang. Ever. 2007-11-02 09:43:51 We found that Autoblog readers have a passionate disdain for what we declared the “Ugliest. Mustang
. Ever.” Some of our favorite comments:
“God kills a kitten every time somebody ruins a perfectly fine automobile like this.”
“Nah, this is a prop for Michael Bay’s new movie… “Transformers: Beast Machines”. Just like the cartoon, the Autobots transform into animals. If you squint you can see that the hood scoops form the rear cheeks of the baboon ‘bot, Assimus Prime.”
“Looks like that pony’s got rabies.“
A member of Mustangforums.com even issued this Mustang a rice citation.
Well things just keep getting better (or worse, depending on how you look at it). We found out that you can actually buy your own version of this monstrosity. That means that it wasn’t built as some sort of sick joke, as some had hoped. The brochure we picked up at the booth says that they will be available for purchase after S Read more:ready
Rumor Mill: Corvette C6RS might go into limited production 2007-11-02 00:24:45 We just got a tip from a knowledgeable source that Pratt & Miller have all but acknowledged that Jay Leno’s wild Corvette
C6RS will go into limited
production. We hear that 25 will be built at a cost of $185,000 plus a donor car. Although the Katech motor in the C6RS is a bit larger than the one in the Pratt & Miller Street Attack model, the E85 hook keeps power the same at 600 HP. Not a lot of other details are available yet, but we wanted to make sure we shared. We’ll keep you posted when more info gets released.

SEMA 2007: Just in time for Halloween, Kia reveals its Soul 2007-10-31 08:21:22 Today in Las Vegas, Kia COO Len Hunt told us that the production Kia Soul we’ll be getting before too long will look almost exactly like the updated concept they showed us here today at SEMA. It also happens to look a lot like the spy shots we showed you last month. In case you forgot, Kia introduced the Soul crossover at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show. The camo-covered production version has been spotted in the Detroit area not far from the Hyundai-Kia Tech Center. The production version looks like it sticks pretty close to the concept on the outside. The main visual differences are the rear suicide doors being replaced with conventional types and frames around the side glass. The shape of the vehicle with the slight downward sloping roof-line and the boxy front remains true to form. We’ll probably see this one make its public debut during the coming auto show season, perhaps as soon as the Detroit Auto Show in January.

SEMA 2007: Dropping by the DeBerti Ford Super Duty 2007-10-31 08:08:23 Earlier we showed you a preview of three Super
Duty trucks that Ford’s brought to SEMA, and we hunted down the DeBerti version to see just how low they could get an F-450. This ground scraping pickup has a Dallas Smith Axleless Lo-Floor front-wheel drive conversion that puts the rear low enough to easily drive a motorcyle up onto the bed. Ford even put a motorcycle into the Deep-V bed to demonstrate its utility. It was by far one of the most popular vehicles in the company’s display, which unfortunately made it hard to get photos. Still, with some patient waiting we snapped a gallery for your viewing pleasure.

SEMA 2007: Roush P-51A Mustang lands 2007-10-31 00:04:58 Say what you want about all the numerous types of Mustang
s, but you have to admit that this is one that deserves the attention. Roush’s latest Mustang, the P-51A, is the most powerful one to date at 510 horsepower and 510 lb-ft torque, and features styling cues based off of the P-51 fighter plane that played a key role in World War II. The new Mustang features completely forged internals including pistons, connecting rods, and crankshaft that allows for higher horsepower from a brand new supercharger system. The 3-year/36,000 mile warranty is also retained on this macho muscle car. Visually the P-51A is a stunner, with a Roush body kit, black high flow grille, a silver and green paint scheme replicating the airplane, and red and yellow shields that pay tribute to the 357th Fighters Group. Only 100 will be produced at a price tag just north of $65,000. Seeing how Roush hasn’t had a problem quickly selling out of its previous special edition Mustangs, we’d venture to gu Read more:lands
2007 Saturn Aura Introduced at LA Auto Show 2007-11-10 02:44:58
The Saturn
Aura Green Line hybrid, introduced at the Los Angeles International Auto Show
, will deliver at least a 25-percent fuel economy improvement over the non-hybrid Aura XE for a premium of less than $2,500.
The Aura Green Line’s base price is expected to start below $23,000.
“The introduction of the Aura Green Line broadens Saturn’s commitment to customers of enabling them to drive green without going broke,” said Saturn General Manager Jill Lajdziak. “With Green Line variants of both Aura and Vue, Saturn again demonstrates that environmental products can also be a great value.”
The 2007 Aura Green Line will be produced at GM’s Fairfax Assembly Plant, and will be available at Saturn retailers in spring 2007.
The Aura Green Line is equipped with the GM Hybrid system, which reduces fuel consumption fuel via sophisticated controls and a unique electric motor/generator mated to a 2.4L Ecotec VVT four-cylinder engine and Hydra-Matic 4T45 four-speed transmission. This i
Kia Kee Concept Damaged En Route to North American Debut 2007-11-10 02:35:27 Remember the Kia Kee Concept
that made its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September? While on its way to California to make its NorthAmerican
debut at the LA Auto Show next week, the car dubbed the “new face of Kia” wriggled out of its cargo restraints and slammed nose first into the front wall of its transporter. Kia spokesman Alex Fedorak said the car has already been sent back to Italy, properly secured this time, and will not make it back for the LA Auto Show. The impromptu bit of rhinoplasty may have improved the Kee Concept’s face, which you might recall we weren’t particularly impressed with. It does, however, recall the visage of a Cylon Raider from the Battlestar Galactica series. That makes two BS references for us today, and we promise it’ll be our last.

Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Aerodynamic Package by IMSA 2007-11-08 10:08:35 Not many tuners dare to touch the Lamborghini
s, but the few who do (Hamann, Edo) do so with great respect for the supercar icon. Imsa, a German high-tech engineering specialist, has developed an Autoclave moulded carbon fibre technology- and design-package for the ‘devil’ of the Lamborghini line-up. Autoclave moulding is normally a process reserved for F1 and other high-end motorsport racing.
The aggressive new front spoiler aligns perfectly to the, by 35 mm widened, wheel arches. On the upper side of the wheel arches imsa has added air ducts resulting in a reduction of the drag effect caused by non-aerodynamic airflow at higher (and top) speeds. The imsa side skirts garantees optimum airflow to the new rear diffuser which has been developed for a perfect interaction with the imsa rear spoiler.
There is no mention on pricing, but you know what they say, if you have to ask how much, you can’t afford it.

F1 lawn mower cuts down the competition like Schumacher 2007-11-08 08:42:44 I absolutely hate mowing the lawn, so anything that can help accomplish this task quicker than my hand-me-down Toro is worth considering. An F1-inspired mower just might do the trick. Complete with an F1-style front wing, full race suspension, rear view mirrors, vintage John Player Special-style livery and a steering wheel sporting an LCD gauge display, this CG mockup of a concept racing mower by Kadeg Boucher of France could easily shave a few tenths off my mow time. We particularly like the pull start that’s been relocated front and center, as well as the race helmet cap on the single spark plug. Within the gallery below you’ll find a bunch of images showing Boucher’s concept cutter from every angle, and some versions of the machine appear more production feasible than others. Seriously, there are at least a few of us out there who would lay down cash on the spot if we passed this thing in Home Depot.

2007 LA Auto Show: US-spec 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution lands 2007-11-16 07:34:28 Mitsubishi
pulled the covers off the US-spec 2008 Lancer Evolution
X, and the differences between your red, white, and blue steed and the one from its homeland are: the steering wheel is on the left, versions with the 6-speed SST auto ‘box are called the MR (the 5-speed manual is the GSR), and the seat cushions are longer in order to fit longer American bodies.
The stripper RS model is not on offer here — that’s the one without a radio and power options. The differences between our GSR and the MR aren’t many, but depending on your preferences they might not be minor. The standard GSR has a radio and power accessories, but does not come with a wing — that would get added in the Sight, Sound, and Spoiler package, which throws in HID headlamps and a 650-watt Rockford Fosgate system. 2007 LA Motor Show: Surf’s up! Suzuki SX4 Makai concept 2007-11-16 07:04:53 Suzuki was obviously trying to tap into the So. Cal. culture of the LA Auto Show when it tasked Andry Specialty Vehicles to create the SX4-based Makai concept. After lopping off the roof, shaving the door handles and adding a NACA-like duct in the hood, they sprayed down the sedan in orange paint and accented it with the silver rollover hoop that provides another mounting point to attach a set of surfboards. LED running lights add some subtle flavor and 19-inch CEC wheels fill the widened wheel arches that frame four-wheel disc brakes with Rotora calipers.
Although the exterior appointments are cool enough, our favorite feature is inside. Instead of fitting the concept seats – normally an ergonomic disaster – it looks like Suzuki made a trek to their corporate pool, plucked the chairs from around the frosted glass table and welded them inside. The results are equal parts style and functionality that give soaking surfers a place to rest without mucking up the standard cloth seats. I Read more:Motor

2007 LA Motor Show: Volkswagen Tiguan priced to sell at $22,490 2007-11-16 06:40:22 The new Tiguan cute-ute factored big into Volkswagen
’s press conference at this year’s LA show. And no wonder, as Vee-Dub is hoping its new small sport-ute sells big, especially in the all-important US market, and especially in California where nobody needs a truck yet everybody has one (and parks it next to their Prius).
Volkswagen of America revealed that Tiguan is priced to sell with a starting MSRP of just $22,490. With just two sport-utes in its lineup, that gives VW a huge price-point spread that stretches all the way up to $68,320 for the bigger Touareg 2 with the jumbo-jet-pulling V10 TDI.
Volkswagen is evidently hoping that the Tiguan will become the Golf of the sport-ute market after it hits US dealers this coming summer. Check out our gallery of the US-spec Tiguan below, and VW’s official press release after the jump.

LA Motor Show 2007: Lexus IS-F gets FiveAxified 2007-11-16 06:31:24 We’ve berated the styling of the Lexus
IS-F at length, but throw the Southern California team over at FiveAxis into the mix and we’re ready to drive it out the front doors of the LA Auto Show. The combination of a custom six-inch wide body kit, Satin Black Pearl Paint and Satin Bronze accents make this IS-F a sports sedan we’d be happy to roll in. The installation of FiveAxis’ own custom 20-inch wheels (20×8.5 in front and 20×10.5 out back), swathed in the same bronze hue as the ducting, diffusers and exhausts, ties everything together, and the lowered ride height provided by the Tein adjustable coilovers brings it all down to earth, literally.
Performance is aided by a custom exhaust system and what FiveAxis is calling a “Stage 2″ engine package. What that means is beyond us, but we’re sure it’s got potential. LA Auto Show 2007: Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG stateside debut 2007-11-16 06:20:53 Los Angeles played host to the North American premier of the acclaimed Mercedes

LA Motor Show 2007: Audi Cabriolet Quattro Concept 2007-11-15 10:32:04 Despite the rumors, Audi didn’t show off its X3-fighter here in LA. Instead, the quad-ringed quattro folks pulled the curtains on a drop-top version of the Cross Coupe Quattro
concept it originally debuted in Shanghai. Designed by the automaker’s studio in Santa Monica, CA, Audi maintains that the Cross Cabriolet Quattro concept is distinctly American in its styling, with a jacked up ride height, elongated wheelbase and retractable soft-top.
As mentioned previously, power comes courtesy of a diesel mill putting 240 HP and 369 lb.-ft. of torque through all four wheels. Audi says the Cross Coupe will make it to 60 in 7.2-seconds, and if you tap the “Drive Select” option, fuel economy is boosted by an additional ten-percent.

For instance, the wheels on the model debuting later today are different and much more attractive than those on the earlier car. This car’s front end also appears to be different than the earlier marketing car, with a chin spoiler in black hanging off of what appears to be a larger lower air intake. Finally, there’s also what appears to be black trim ahead of the rear wheel that could be for show, could be a faux scoop or may be a protective piece that’s pulled off before the debut. LA Auto Show 2007: 2009 Lincoln MKS brings new look to American luxury 2007-11-14 07:01:43 For the past two decades, the only thing consistent about Ford’s Lincoln
division has been its inconsistency. To put it lightly, the brand has struggled to find it’s place in the automotive landscape. The vehicles from Ford’s premium domestic division haven’t had a coherent look since the early ’80s. Several of its models, such as the LS and the Navigator, have sold well at times, but the absence of a Lincoln DNA hasn’t helped. In 2006, North American
Design chief Peter Horbury set about changing all that. He gave his team the task of examining past Lincolns to determine what set them apart.
The first new model intended to set Lincoln on it’s path to rebirth is the 2009 MKS, which is making its debut in production form at the LA Auto Show
later today. The MKS first appeared as a concept at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show. It’s based on the same platform as the Ford 500/Taurus, which originated at Volvo under the S80/XC90. When the concept firs

However, unlike those models, it will be no sales flop. The newcomer is set to mark the revival of the affordable coupé, and will join the reborn Volkswagen Scirocco and the forthcoming Hyundai Coupe in a market sector where style and head-turning looks don’t have to come at a huge price. Tipped to cost around ?20,000 when it arrives in the UK in Decem-ber 2008, the two-door is certain to sell like hot croissants – so we caught up with it at Renault

2007 LA Auto Show: Mercedes S400 Bluetec Hybrid - it’s new, we think 2007-11-16 23:28:35 Mercedes-Benz is confusing the blog out of us with its nomenclature. Sure, it’s usually pretty straightforward: one letter for the class, three numbers for the (approximate) engine displacement. Tack on 4Matic for all-wheel-drive, chop off a zero and add AMG for the performance models. But they just about lost us on this one.
In Frankfurt Mercedes unveiled two new hybrid versions of the S-Class: the S300 Bluetec Hybrid
with diesel-electric power, and the S400 Hybrid with gas-electric power. In Los Angeles, however, they took the wraps off the S400 Bluetec Hybrid. Still with us? Well, they lost us, too. This version packs a V6 diesel coupled with an electric motor to provide 265 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque, resulting in what Mercedes calls V8 performance with four-cylinder economy: 0-60 in 7.2 seconds and 40.5 mpg on the highway.
While the previous S400 Hybrid unveiled in Frankfurt was gas-electric, the S300 Bluetec Hybrid unveiled with it was stated as producing 413 lb-ft Read more:Mercedes

LA Auto Show 2007: Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Roadster in the flesh 2007-11-16 22:44:12 It pains us to see a dead horse beaten so rigorously, but the folks at Mercedes
have yet to stop. But then, they did paid a lot for that horse.
The SLR project that then-Daimler-Benz undertook in partnership with its F1 racing partner, McLaren, never went as well as hoped. Sales were disappointing, and although the car’s performance put it into the upper echelons of autodom, it never succeeded at giving its competition a real run for their money. And at half a million bucks, it’s a lot of money to run for.
Rather than cut their loses, Mercedes and McLaren have opted instead to turn out additional derivations. After the “standard” SLR coupe came the 722, which was widely derided for having ruined the ride with little additional benefit. A racing version, dubbed 722 GT, followed. Rumors circulated long ago that additional body-styles were under consideration – what are they talking about, a shooting brake? – but only the open-air version made it to production. Crazy eights! MTM builds an 888-hp Audi R8 2007-11-24 06:52:26
The Audi R8 is apparently a tempting platform for tuners. We’ve seen sketches of the Abt Audi R8, we spotted the APR Audi R8 at the 2007 SEMA Show, and we recently took a look at the carbon fiberized PPI Audi R8.
MTM, those crazy Germans who built the twin-engine, 740-hp Audi TT Bimoto, brought their own version of the R8 to the Dubai Motor Show. Although visually subtle, a turbocharger system has been added to the 4.2-liter V8 for a total of 888 bhp and 610 lb-ft torque. 0-60 mph can be achieved in 3.0 seconds flat, and top speed is limited to 223 mph. MTM built the car, fittingly named the R888, as a one-off for a European customer, but they will gladly build more of them for a mere €280,000 each.

Vortec powered Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster replica 2007-11-24 06:31:04 For fans of the legendary Countach, the current Murcielago
is its true successor and perhaps the last of the “real” Lamborghini
s. It still has the longitudinal V12 with the transmission sitting in front of the engine between the seats and the obligatory scissor doors. However, that $300,000 price tag puts it well out of range for mere mortals. For the rest of us, Minnesota-based Vigness Motorsports has cobbled up this replica currently on offer on eBay.
On the outside, the creators have done a pretty masterful job of replicating the original, with none of the odd proportions you so often find on these types of machines. It even features the pop up air intakes on top of the rear fenders to feed air to the engine. It’s only when you look at the interior and under the engine cover, that you see the limitations of doing such a vehicle on a limited budget. The interior almost makes you long for the cheap plastic of a Jeep Compass. While twelve cylinders may be a bit much t Read more:Roadster
