Day 2, scratchboard on clayboard
NFSI have colored the panel with copper lustres and mother of pearl irridescent for the sun/moon. This looks quite different than the black and white version. The design patterns in the sky are very reflective and it gives an unusual effect, so I'm not disappointed with the coloring--actually I'm happy with it. All those super fine lines look great up close.Take a look with this hyperlink Technorati tags: art, artwork, artist, scratchboard, drawing, naquaiya.blogspot.com

Hope she doesn't see this blog before she gets her gift. Tomorrow I will post what this looks like when it is colored. Hope it doesn't look better in black & white because I can't take the color out.Technorati tags: art, artwork, artist, scratchboard, drawing, naquaiya.blogspot.com,
V IS FOR VILLAGEThis is a watercolor on multimedi... 2006-12-25 07:42:00 V IS FOR VILLAGEThis is a watercolor on multimedia board. It is from one of several alphabet books I am develping. The book is in a square format which is really fun. Since it has a holiday theme, I thought it would be nice for my blog--since it's Christmas day today. I do the watercolor first, then do a scratchboard next. It's fun to see the same subject and how it can look and feel completely different. I love the windy streets, snow-laden houses and tiny windows. This little boy's dad is walking way too fast. You just know the boy is getting short changed by not being able to stop and look closely at the little animal toy in the shop window. Funny how a tiny body jesture can tell so much. That's what I love about art.

Real Estatescratchboard on clayboard 11"x14" print on matte archival paperThis print is enhanced with lustres $40So......I don't care if it isn't halloween and it happens to be a week away from Christmas. I have been wanting to do this drawing since September and I figured it was now or never! I guess this is a continuation of my"windows" theme and I'm getting more and more fascinated with these warm, glowing lights from windows against dark places. This scratchboards has gold leaf, copper and other lustres and the ghosts just evolved by accident. I really like the title of "funky real estate". I believe my next piece will be more of these perverted buildings. I guess I never forgot the lady who lived in a shoe when I was a kid. You know I took it seriously and truly believed she did. I was naive enough to feel sorry for her. Imagine that! See a full picture for detail.

Trolley Rainy Nightscratchboard on clayboardpurch... 2006-12-15 01:08:00 Trolley Rainy Nightscratchboard on clayboardpurchaseIt's raining a lot here now and I really wanted to do a rainy scene. This is a different piece than the work in progress of yesterday where I could not get the effect I wanted so I started a new piece. I wnat a wet look to the streets, friendly city lights, and unusual sky. It's nice to go back to a time when we had horse and buggy and uncrowded city streets. I think a lot about a time when the polar caps weren't melting and the ozone layer was able to do its job. We may not be able to enjoy our planet too much longer. Just look at the damage we've done in only 100 years!
Rain, work in progress #1 scratchboard on silver f... 2006-12-14 02:14:00 Rain, work in progress
#1 scratchboard on silver foilThis is a work in progress scratchboard on silver foil board. I'm unsure as to whether or not I'll keep it or kill it. Right now I'm adding a pattern of scratching over a darkly-painted surface. The pattern is of rain, but it's only a pattern. No rain ever looked like this. Above is a small detail from the panel. The silver only reflects light and it's difficult to say if it will even scan well enough. What happens with foil is as you tilt it back and forth, that's when it picks up the light. So I don't know if this much color will work--and this is not a good scratchboard surface; just a school grade foil on waxed paper. Well, it's fun to experiment and you have to be in the mood for this kind of detail. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

and bagettescratchboard on clayboard7" x 5"prints availablepurchaseContinuing in my wine series where the focus is on mood through lights and darks. I have tried some new techniques with this scratchboard. I removed almost all the black and did quite a bit of painting on the panel. I think I have painted more on this panel and scratched less of the black away than I've ever done in the past. The window in the background is a really important element. I'm looking forward to working with red wine next and maybe some camenbert cheese too.

, aka "all decked out"7"x5" watercoloroffered as a printin my ebay storeThis is a continuing drawing in my "mystical cat" series. Sometimes, when the pressure is off to produce "art" I like to kick back and doodle. I am making the final drafts on my 2007 calendar which should be off the press in about 2 weeks. It is called "whimsy cats" and it involves 12 images over a 2 year period of my cat paintings. I will post the calendar when I have it in hand. Moon Zebras
scratchboard on clayboard
11"x14" print on archivalmatte paper $40 I've been thinking about going back into my portfolio and reworking some old images. Similar to what some people have found out through the painting of eggs on Sunday's gallery. How you paint the same subject matter over time is an interesting and revealing exercise. This basic image of zebras in this grooming pose is one I drew some years ago and the original was large. I decided to try and do it again, with a different outlook and in a very small format. I found that it went quickly and I made several important changes--the moon here is much bigger than my old moon and the yellow cast in the night sky creates the mood I'm looking for. The vegetation is more abstracted and I kept the colors dark so as not to compete with the animals. I concentrated on highlighting only the topline of the animals. I think I want to try this again. 7" x 5"I've been exploring wine again. I thought this was an interesting idea to create more of a mood with lights and darks. I'm getting intrigued with distant unusual windows with warm light coming into a dark room. More windows are on the way and more wine too. The label on the bottle says "no nonsense". 7"x10"Training in long reins and getting a good start from a good trainer. This mare was really nice and I took a photo of her a while ago as my reference. For this scratchboard I used a lot of steel wool and a fiberglass brush to make soft modeling tones rather than using graphic lines to deliniate her form. Winsor & Newton inks were used for the color. Technorati tags: art, artwork, artist, scratchboard, drawing, equine art, naquaiya.blogspot, naquaiya

In my scratchboard drawing I made the atmosphere around it one of reverence. After all, this old timer vehicle has survived a long time and deserves respect.
