Guest Post: Outlook ‘07 - Cincinnati Reds 2007-03-27 01:44:00 Reds fans have a lot to be optimistic about this year. With a strong 1-2 punch at the front of the rotation, a solid bullpen, and an offense that has the potential to be potent if the cards fall into the right place, don’t be surprised to see a city with a funny name sitting atop the NL Central standings on a frequent basis in 2007. Quote of the day 2007-03-30 02:25:23 The goal now is to go down and help that team win and try to make the Triple-A All-Star team. Maybe I can get invited to the Futures Game or something. I’m still 26.

Guest Post: Outlook ‘07 - Atlanta Braves 2007-03-30 00:00:38 Like most baseball fans, I couldn’t wait until the pre-season magazines came out so I could see where the Braves
were ranked by the “experts”. Most of them pick the Braves to at the worst finish 3rd in the National League East. The fact that one bad season has snowballed in the eyes of baseball gurus every where makes me chuckle. Read more:Guest

I wish I could sit here and write a cheery and upbeat season outlook for the Seattle Mariners. But you see it’s really not that simple. Things have been a tad bleak since the 116 win season, not that I should really bring that up. Read more:lsquo

Top Rookies of April 2007-05-03 04:59:07 With the first month of the young baseball season officially in the books, we’re already burying teams that have no chance (Kansas City and Washington), dropping our jaws at the teams who are off to hot starts (Milwaukee, Boston, Cleveland and Atlanta) and of course, allowing the Cubs to give us just enough reason to be optimistic.
But like I said, the season is young. A lot can happen and aside from Kansas City and Washington staying in the cellar, I am guessing the standings will change a lot before October. So, in the interest of discussing the future of the season, let’s take a look at April
’s Rookies of the Month.
I don’t think there is much surprise that the National League Representative is none other than Rule-5 pick and former number one overall, Josh Hamilton, who has pretty much emerged as a must-play position player in a crowded Reds outfield.
In April, Hamilton led all rookies with six home runs and tied for the lead among Major League rookies wit
Oldest Former White Sox Player Dead at Age 94 2007-05-02 02:17:18 Former Chicago White
Sox outfielder Milton F. Bocek is dead at age 94 following a short illness. He was believed to be the oldest living former player from the team.
A Cicero tavern owner talked the then Sox manager Lew Fonseca into letting Bocek into taking batting practice. Combined with his feats in amateur and semipro softball leagues, Fonseca then brought “Beltin’ Bo from Cicero” in for the final weeks of the 1933 season.
Bocek appeared in 30 games, while taking 60 at-bats, and slugging one home run. After his playing career ended, Bocek worked as a draftsman and later for a family printing business. He also served in the Army during World War II.

The NL 2007 Comeback Player of the Year 2007-05-01 15:00:21 In my Opening Day predictions, I suggested Josh Hamilton will win the NL Comeback Player of the Year award this year. While I still stand by it, there is a contingent of folks who would posit that Hamilton should not be eligible because he was never on a big league roster and thus really is not “coming back” to something like the typical candidate.
Whether you are in my camp or the latter, there is one player who could make it all idle rhetoric if trends continue.
So far on the season, in 81 at bats, he’s scattered 21 hits for seven dingers, four doubles, a triple and amassed 48 total bases and 25 runs batted in while drawing three walks. Not too shabby even for Triple-A.
We’re talking about a guy who was the Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year in 1999 and was a shooting star in the St. Louis Cardinals system before he landed on hard times. I’m talking about none other than the might slugger himself . . . Rick Ankiel.
That’s right. Ric
