According to the EurId.eu's statistics there are currently 2,651,547 registered .eu domains. Germany leads the way in total number of .eu domains totaling 844,318 registrations. Over 15,000 applications received by dotAsia for first sunrise period

The principal registry for .asia domains - dotAsia - have announced they have recieved over 15,334 applications for domains in the first phase of the Sunrise period. The second phase of the Sunrise period commeced on November 13th, 2007 and will draw to a close on January 15, 2008. “We are extremely pleased with the response. The process has also been smooth and calm. I am most excited to see that brand owners around the world are able to protect their names through our Sunrise process. If you can think of any brand, it has probably been registered.” said Edmon Chung, CEO of DotAsia.


Telnic to launch .TEL in 2008

While most of use are preoccupied with the impending launch of .ASIA, there are other tlds being launched in 2008. Telnic is slowly working up towards launching the .TEL tld. There will be a single Sunrise period in order to avoid the headaches caused by the various sunrise periods for the ASIA and EU launches. The Sunrise period will last 60 days allowing trademark owners to get their domains.


Tucows launches domain parking program

Tucows Inc has announced they have added two additional services to their large list of interent services. They have launched a Domain Parking Program and Expired Domains Program. Tucows domain parking programs generate additional revenues through the automatic serving of targeted pay-per-click (PPC) advertising. In the case of the Parked Pages Program, ads are displayed on unused domain names, while the Expired Domains Program serves advertising on domain names that have expired. Under the terms of these programs, Tucows offers a 50-50 split of all net advertising revenue with the reseller. Tucows is well known for their free privacy protection and managed DNS services with every domain purchase. These additional features will help turn them into an attractive proposition for domainers.


Is Wodka.com the real deal?

Here is an interesting bit of news. W + K Amsterdam is behind a project to promoted Polish vodka brand Wodka Wyborova. The site claims that the original vodka is spelled with a w and comes from Poland. It seems the site is being passed around via mass and social media. When I visited there were 300 users online. Apparently, the Polish claim that the original drink was created in Poland. They have a great campaign backed up by their domain Wodka.com.


170 amazing expired domains

I think I am addicted to domaining. I had to physically restrain myself from registering some of the 170 domains in this list. In the end, I decided since my wife would kill me if I registered more then the 10 that I did, it was better I send the 170 to my subscribers then risk certain death :). The Associated Cities conference was held in San Francisco and ended with a Live Moniker Geo Auction . Overall 34 names were sold with a total sale value of over $475,000. It was interesting that a lot of names remained unsold as sellers passed on offered amounts. Some domains had huge reserves. TheHamptons.com was passed over on an $800,000 bid.
