It's my turn - so bug off! 2008-03-27 12:41:45 I'm a couponer. I love coupons and saving money. It's my hobby and in a way, it's my job. It's my way of being able to provide more for my household and allows me to stay home and raise my kids instead of shoving them off to the sitters.I don't get why people get so ticked off at this. You get nasty attitudes from the cashier when you hand her your coupons, why? Because she's at work and has to actually - uhhhh - work? I mean, what else could she be doing besides taking another drink of her pop she has stashed on the side of the cash register. Maybe she's in a hurry to scan the next customers order behind me. Yeah right. If she's so concerned about too many customers standing in her line then maybe customer service needs to open up more than two lanes. That is beside the point. The cashier

Tackle It Tuesday - My Chest Freezer 2008-04-29 12:33:37 First of all, I just want to say, the next time I buy a freezer it will be an upright freezer. The chest freezer is just too hard to find things and keep things organized. With that said, my chest freezer was calling for a clean out. Most of the time it takes several attempts of stuffing, moving and pushing to get my freezer closed properly. Also, I needed to take an inventory of what I had and didn't have.I forgot to take before and after pictures of the freezer but here is how I organized everything into groups, so I could organize it back into my freezer.Veggies:Frozen Sausage:Lunch Meat & Hot Dogs:Cornish Hens: Awhile back I was asking some friends about freezing meat. (you can read about that here: How do you freeze your meat? ) I buy so much meat and sometimes it's frozen for 4 o Read more:Tuesday

A Beautiful Day Working Outside 2008-04-28 14:05:15 Sunday was such a beautiful day to work outside and get some yard work done so I decided to stimulate the economy and support a small business and went to the local nursery to get some flowers and plants for the yard. Now, this is what I like to see - my kids slaving away. Earning their keep. This is a flower bed in front of the garage. Over the winter, all kinds of things had collected there, leaves, sticks, flowers from last year. So we had to get all that cleaned up.This is the after - still needs some cleaning up around the edge, but looks much better.I have always wanted a lilac bush. They are so pretty and smell so good.I finally got one! It's just tiny right now, but it will grow and cover up that corner of the yard. You can see my compost pile back in the corner between the shed and f Read more:Beautiful

Teenagers - *sigh* 2008-04-28 12:45:53 This is my oldest daughter, Kelly. She just turned 14 years old. Isn't she beautiful? Ahhh, I remember being a teenager and thinking I knew everything. It's a hard job being a teenager. You have to worry about who your friends are, if they are the right friends, what your going to wear and if it's in style. All the while trying to find your own identity and figuring things out on your own. One thing I have always tried to teach my children is to be their own person. If your friends say your favorite shirt is out of style and you still like it - keep wearing it. There is too much pressure on kids to try and 'fit in'. Trying to make sure they look a certain way, act a certain way, wear certain clothes. Just be your own person. Don't be a puppet.Kelly struggles with this sometimes, but I thin Read more:Teenagers
The Purpose of the Reusable Shopping Bags 2008-04-28 12:00:29 I understand the purpose of the reusable shopping bags. That's why I now have 6 of them, and hope to get more. With my large family and as much shopping as I do, we go though an enormous amount of plastic bags. Most stores are selling the reusable bags for .99 cents or giving them away free so why not stock up on them so that I can reduce the amount of plastic bags I am using. The key words here are: reusable bags, reduce, plastic bag intakeOkay, so I go to CVS this morning to get my Zone Perfect Bars and Soft Soap. I walked in the store with one of the reusable shopping bags I got from Kroger. Instead of getting a shopping basket, I just placed everything into my reusable shopping bag and walked up to the counter. I take everything out of my shopping bag and set the shopping bag up on the Read more:Purpose

Not Me Strikes Again 2008-04-21 18:10:29 About 8 months ago, I bought a nice Teflon pot/skillet. School Fundraising - Rant 2008-04-20 01:23:45 I don't know about anyone else out there, but I could surely scream if my kids bring home another sausage and cheese fundraiser - or any fundraiser that requires them to market goofy, expensive stuff. I understand that the school is trying to raise money, and it's not that I don't want to support the school. It's just that these types of fundraisers are a major PITA!They offer these prize incentives, so the more they sell, the more chance the child might have to get a cheap, useless. .50 cent toy that's going to break in the first 30 minutes. However, the kids don’t understand that. All they know is they want the cool looking toy that is on the prize list. So of course, they want to go around the neighborhood begging asking everyone they know to buy these overpriced, useless products. Th Read more:School

You can read more about rain checks here: Everything You Want to Know About Rain ChecksMost people who use coupons know about rain checks and how to use them. My problem isn't the knowledge - it's the remembering. I always remember when it happens - when I am in the store shopping and I come across that bare shelf, I instantly think - Rain Check! However, by the time I get everything else on my list, stand in line, unload my groceries, get my coupons out and ready and get up to the cashier I have completely forgotten. That is until I get out to the car, unload everything and driving off the parking lot - THEN I remember. Lately, when I need to get a rain check I instantly tell my husband
