L.A. Times Carrying Water for Scott Beauchamp The Lier
2007-10-29 18:28:17
For some reason the media just can’t stop carrying water for The New Republic over Scott Beauchamp the lier. The left wing media continues to rally around TNR desperately clinging to the hope that Beauchamp’s lies will somehow become true. The latest TNR apologist and Scott Beauchamp cheerleader is Tim Rutten who wrote a ridiculous piece for the L.A. Times . It was riddled with inaccuracies and distortions that Confederate Yankee was kind enough to list one at a time. Take a look. -Chris Jones Share This

Militia Leader ID’d as Mastermind of Iraqi Kidnappings
2007-10-29 17:11:25
A renegade Mahdi Army militia commander is responsible for the kidnapping Sunday of 10 Shiite and Sunni tribal leaders. Arkan Hasnawi, identified as a former brigade commander in Jaysh Al Mahdi, was behind the kidnappings, which took place in the Diyala Province as the chiefs were returning from a meeting in Baghdad with a representative of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. In August, radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr ordered his Mahdi Army fighters to law down their arms for up to six months in an attempt to stop attacks and reduce violence in the region. -Samantha Giles Share This

Keep Kids From Praying At All Cost
2007-10-29 16:58:42
Thankfully, a federal judge refused Monday to temporarily bar schools from observing a brief period of prayer or reflective silence for students, but he allowed a lawsuit contesting the practice to move forward. The ridiculous lawsuit was filed by talk-radio host Rob Sherman, whose 14-year-old daughter, Dawn, is a student in the district at Buffalo Grove High School. She and her father maintain that the new law is just another round in the long-running battle over prayer in school and as such violates the U.S. Constitution. The Silent Reflection and Student Prayer Act already had allowed Illinois schools to have a moment of silence at the start of every school day if they wished to do so. This month Legislators overturned Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s veto and made the moment of silence mandatory. The school district has promised to enforce the law in a “neutral” fashion making no reference whatsoever to religion. Rob Sherman has been on a one man crusade to rid the public s

The other soldier was treated for his injuries and has since been released. -Chris Jones  Share This

The four-term lawmaker said illegal immigration, his core issue, now has national prominence and he doesn’t need to remain in Congress to promote it. Tancredo does plan to continue his bid for the White House in 2008, however recent polls have him tracking in the low single digits. Share This

Taliban captured by Canadians allege torture
2007-10-29 11:53:39
Never missing an opportunity to use the “torture card” to gain sympathy, Taliban members captured by Canadian troops and handed over to Afghan authorities say they have been tortured. (NO! Say it isn’t so!!!) Three prisoners are claiming they were beaten with bricks and cables, given electric shocks, deprived of sleep and had their nails torn out. The three said they had been captured by Canadian troops, given a document that said torture was no longer used in Afghanistan and then transferred to the Afghan secret police. “The people from the secret service tore it (the document) up and threw it in my face. They tortured me for 20 hours. I protested and said the Canadians had promised that nothing would happen to me.” “They replied: ‘We’re not in Canada, we’re at home. The Canadians are dogs!’” he said. I know this is the time when we’re supposed to get misty eyed, demand answers, and condemn torture. But I’m

Argentina’s First Lady Elected President
2007-10-29 11:22:33
Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, the wife of Argentina ’s president, Néstor Kirchner, has become the first woman to be elected President in Argentina’s history. Mrs. Kirchner, 54, the center-left Peronist party candidate and a senator, defeated a fractured opposition and avoided a runoff. With 96 percent of the voting locations reporting, Mrs. Kirchner had 45 percent, ahead of Elisa Carrio, a center-left congresswoman, who had 23 percent, and Roberto Lavagna, a former finance minister, who had 17 percent, according to ministry of interior figures. Mrs. Kirchner declared victory late Sunday. In a speech, she said she felt a responsibility not only to lead her country, but “an immense responsibility for my gender.” She also paid homage to her husband’s accomplishments. Share This

Valerie Plame: “I’m not going away”
2007-10-29 10:07:14
Outed spy Valerie Plame says she isn’t going away, no matter what the folks at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue want. God help us if that’s true. I don’t think I’ve ever wanted anyone to go away more than covert, super-spy, 007, Valerie Plame. And her husband too. Even though we all know Richard Armitage is the one who leaked her identity, Plame and her idiot husband continue to peddle the fantasy that the Bush Administration leaked her identity on purpose. Richard Armitage leaked her identity in passing because he’s a gossip. As Deputy Secretary of State he was one of the most outspoken critics of the Iraq war and was certainly not considered an ally of the Bush Administration. Of course, Valerie Plame doesn’t plan to let a little thing like “truth” get in the way of her book sales. She was after all so distraught after her identity became public, she immediately posed with her husband for Vanity Fair. Valerie Plame and her husband are shameles

A Tearful Oprah Back in Africa
2007-10-29 09:08:08
A tearful Oprah Winfrey begged parents to forgive her for an alleged abuse scandal at her girls’ school in South Africa . The school was hit two weeks ago with allegations that one of the matrons fondled a girl and physically abused other students. The school’s principal - indentified only as Dr Mzimane - and at least one other matron were put on administrative leave following the charges. “I’ve disappointed you. I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry,” Oprah told parents at an emergency meeting, South Africa’s top news Web site reported yesterday. Share This

Hot Joints Book Review: “Schmoozing With Terrorists”
2007-11-02 16:30:01
This clever, often humorous but deeply disturbing book focuses not on how terror cells operate or how they get their funding, but on the individuals behind the masks and suicide bomber vests. It tells stories, often horrifying, about the events that have shaped, and are shaping, today’s Middle East, as told by the perpetrators, in their own words. Aaron Klein conducts interviews with the leaders and members of terror organizations, including every major Palestinian Arab terror group, al-Qaida, Hezbollah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Al Aqsa Martyrs, Popular Resistance Committees, Arab liberation front, PFLP, Iraq insurgents, Taliban officials and even groups suspected of operating in the U.S. You will not find a better book about terrorism anywhere in the world. He even asks the terror leaders what they think about Hollywood celebrities who speak out against President Bush and the War on Terror. Schmoozing With Terrorists is one the most fascinating books I have ever read. Don’t

Nuclear Plant Lockdown: Worker With Explosives Detained
2007-11-02 15:37:27
Security officials at the nation’s largest nuclear power plant detained a contract worker with a small explosive device in the back of his pickup truck. The worker was stopped and detained at the entrance of the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station. Officials then put the entire plant on lock-down barring anyone from entering or exiting the facility. Authorities described the device as a small capped pipe that contained suspicious residue. The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office rendered the device safe and investigators began interviewing the worker. Share This

The clip lists Hutton Gibson’s accomplishments at the beginning, but I thought a tiny correction was needed to keep everybody honest. Faulty Intel Source for Iraq War Revealed
2007-11-02 12:54:36
Take a look at this teaser from CBS about the upcoming episode of “60 Minutes.” It looks pretty interesting. 60 Minutes has identified the man whose fabricated story of Iraq i biological weapons drove the U.S. argument for invading Iraq. It has also obtained video of “Curve Ball,” as he was known in intelligence circles, and discovered he was not only a liar, but also a thief and a poor student instead of the chemical engineering whiz he claimed to be. 60 Minutes correspondent Bob Simon’s two-year investigation will be broadcast this Sunday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. ET/PT. Curve Ball is an Iraqi defector named Rafid Ahmed Alwan, who arrived at a German refugee center in 1999. To bolster his asylum case and increase his importance, he told officials he was a star chemical engineer who had been in charge of a facility at Djerf al Nadaf that was making mobile biological weapons. 60 Minutes has learned that Alwan’s university records indicate he did study chemical e

Lawyer: Chapman’s son sold N-word tape
2007-11-02 10:38:31
Television bounty hunter Duane “Dog” Chapman ’s son taped a private phone conversation in which the reality star used a racial slur repeatedly, then sold it to a tabloid for “a lot of money,” Chapman’s lawyer said Thursday. “I guess because of whatever level of anger he had of his father, he felt the need to express it in that manner.” The National Enquirer on Wednesday posted on its Web site a clip of a conversation in which Duane Chapman, star of the hit A&E series “Dog the Bounty Hunter,” repeatedly used the N-word in reference to Tucker’s girlfriend. Chapman later apologized to his son and the woman, then learned about how the tape got into the tabloid’s hands, the lawyer said. A&E has suspended production of the series, saying the network takes the matter seriously. Share This

Harvard Study Confirms Liberal Bias in Media
2007-11-02 10:10:36
A joint survey by the Project for Excellence in Journalism and Harvard ’s Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy — hardly a bastion of conservative orthodoxy — found that in covering the current presidential race, the media are sympathetic to Democrats and hostile to Republicans. Democrats are not only favored in the tone of the coverage. They get more coverage period. This is particularly evident on morning news shows, which “produced almost twice as many stories (51% to 27%) focused on Democratic candidates than on Republicans.” The most flagrant bias, however, was found in newspapers. In reviewing front-page coverage in 11 newspapers, the study found the tone positive in nearly six times as many stories about Democrats as it was negative. The gap between Democrats and Republicans narrows on cable TV, but it’s there nonetheless. Stories about Democrats were positive in more than a third of the cases, while Republicans were portraye

Report: 430 Troops Committed Suicide Since 2001
2007-11-01 17:40:26
Research by the Veterans Affairs Department provides the first quantitative look at the suicide toll on today’s combat veterans. The ongoing research reveals that at least 283 combat veterans who left the military between the start of the war in Afghanistan on Oct. 7, 2001, and the end of 2005 took their own lives. Today’s homefront suicide tally is running at least double the number of troop suicides in the war zones as thousands of men and women return with disabling injuries and mental health disorders that put them at higher risk. A total of 147 troops have killed themselves in Iraq and Afghanistan since the wars began, according to the Defense Manpower Data Center, which tracks casualties for the Pentagon. That means a total of at least 430 of the 1.5 million troops who have fought in the two wars have killed themselves over the past six years. That number doesn’t include those who committed suicide after their combat tour ended and while still in the military, a

8 Injured in Anti-Chavez Protests in Venezuela
2007-11-07 18:08:15
Gunmen opened fire on students returning from a march Wednesday in which 80,000 people denounced President Hugo Chavez ’s attempts to expand his power. The violence broke out after anti-Chavez demonstrators—led by university students—marched peacefully to the Supreme Court to protest constitutional changes that Venezuela ns will consider in a December referendum. The amendments would abolish presidential term limits, give the president control over the Central Bank and let him create new provinces governed by handpicked officials. The protesters demand the referendum be suspended, saying the amendments would weaken civil liberties in one of South America’s oldest democracies and give Chavez unprecedented power to declare states of emergency. It’s very comforting to see that at least some people can see that Chavez will be the ruin of Venezuela. He fully intends to make Venezuela an even bigger disaster than Cuba. Unfortunately for the Cuban people we were unsuccess

Study: Female U.S. Corporate Directors Out-Earn Men
2007-11-07 17:38:59
They may be a small minority in corporate boardrooms, but women directors typically earn more than men, a new U.S. study has found. Female directors in corporate America earned median compensation of $120,000, based on the most recently available pay data, compared with $104,375 for male board members, research group The Corporate Library said in its annual director pay report. At the same time, the study said, women in corporate boardrooms are outnumbered eight to one. Share This

Ann Coulter: How Long Before The A.D.L. Kicks All the Jews Out?
2007-11-07 17:17:14
Ann Coulter has once again used witty satire to make an incredibly valid point. Why do Jews continue to support the Democratic party? Israel would just be called Palestine today if the Democrats had been in charge the last six years. The Democrats are largely against our support for Israel and love to make evil references to the “Jewish lobby” that the Federal government is allegedly beholden to. I don’t think it’s Jews in general that continue to support the Democrats, but specifically American Jews that do. If you want to be even more specific, it’s the Hollywood Jews that always vote Democrat. I can assure you that the politics of Rob Reiner, David Geffen, and others would be quite different if they were in danger of being killed in a suicide bombing on a daily basis. American Jews that haven’t lived under the constant threat of terrorism at the hands of Muslim killers can easily vote for a Democrat, but an Israeli Jew would look at things a littl

Democrats and Waterboarding

Close U.S. ally Georgia descends into chaos
2007-11-07 12:58:55
The former Soviet Republic of Georgia descended into chaos as riot police fought pitched battles with demonstrators, special forces stormed an opposition TV station and President Mikhail Saakashvili blamed Russia for the crisis. Saakashvili announced he was expelling three Russian diplomats from Georgia and withdrawing his ambassador from Moscow, claiming he had evidence that Russian intelligence was behind six days of mass protests. “We cannot let our country become the stage for dirty geo-political escapades by other countries,” he said in a television broadcast. “Our democracy needs a firm hand of the authorities.” Saakashvili has previously trumpeted his country as a shining example of democracy and respect for human rights in the volatile Caucasus region, which is mainly governed by authoritarian leaders. Relations between Georgia and Russia were already at all-time lows. Saakashvili’s desire to join NATO and his drive to regain sovereignty over two b

Senate Committee Approves Mukasey Nomination
2007-11-07 10:01:22
The Senate Judiciary Committee voted on Tuesday to approve the nomination of Michael B. Mukasey as Attorney General, despite opposition from most of the committee’s cowardly Democrats over Mr. Mukasey’s refusal to label an interrogation technique used by CIA as torture. The vote, 11 to 8, with two Democrats joining all of the committee’s Republicans in supporting Mr. Mukasey, all but assured him of final confirmation by the full Senate. The Senate’s Democratic leaders are expected to schedule a vote by next week. The nomination of Mr. Mukasey was almost derailed by his refusal at his confirmation hearings to define as torture the interrogation technique known as waterboarding, which simulates drowning and is reported to have been used by the Central Intelligence Agency on a handful of Qaeda leaders since the Sept. 11 terror attacks. Democrats are not capable of doing what it takes to protect America and win the war on terror. They’re wimps who are more interested in cod

Ahmadinejad: Key Nuke Target of 3,000 Centrifuges Reached
2007-11-07 09:44:14
Iran has achieved a landmark, with 3,000 centrifuges fully working in its controversial uranium enrichment program, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced Wednesday. Ahmadinejad has in the past claimed that Iran succeeded in installing the 3,000 centrifuges at its uranium enrichment facility at Natanz. But Wednesday’s claim was his first official statement that the plant is now fully operating all those centrifuges. Experts say 3,000 centrifuges are in theory enough to produce a nuclear weapon, perhaps as soon as within a year. Iran says it plans to expand its enrichment program to up to 54,000 centrifuges at Natanz in central Iran - which would amount to the level of industrial-scale uranium enrichment. -Samantha Giles Share This

Welcome Back France, We Missed You!!
2007-11-07 09:35:00
France ’s president, Nicolas Sarkozy, burst onto the Washington scene on Tuesday, in his first official visit to the White House and asking the United States to embrace him as a friend. Mr. Sarkozy backslapped and hugged his way through the day. He also proclaimed his determination to be a reliable partner of the United States. “I come to Washington to bear a very simple message, a message that I bear on behalf of all Frenchmen,” he said in a toast at a formal White House dinner in his honor. “I want to reconquer the heart of America.” “Sarko l’Américain,” as he is called, is considered the most pro-American French president in decades. Mr. Sarkozy’s relationship with Mr. Bush is said to be warm, and his stance on Iran tough. That’s not the attitude Bush would have ever heard from former French President Jacques Chirac who publicly lobbied against the United States at the U.N. and everywhere else. In electing Sarkozy the French people have clearly rejected Chir
