It Is The Gift Of God
2007-10-30 08:05:41
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and not that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast.Ephesians 2: 8–9   I truly believe that salvation is a gift from God. The two most important words in that beautiful passage from God’s word is grace and faith. You see grace is God’s part, and faith is our part. Grace can be described as the unmerited favor of God. What about faith? What is faith? How do we get this faith? (more…) Share This

Who Else Wants This Election To Be Over?
2007-10-30 02:06:31
Early voting started today for the special election to determine if Liquor-by-the-Drink can be sold in Fannin County restaurants. Advanced voting will continue until Friday November the 2nd. According to The News Observer in Friday’s October 26th paper, there has been an increase of over 2000 voters bringing the total number of registered voters to 15,327.  I wonder if those new voters are locals or part-timers? I think we all know the answer to that question! Is Liquor-by-the-Drink the Future of Fannin County? Did Fannin County actually loose 30 Million Dollars to restaurants just down the road in Ellijay within Gilmer County? Did it result in a loss of $875,000 tax dollars for Fannin County? God’s Faithfulness
2007-10-27 18:47:47
My God will use his wonderful riches in Christ Jesus to give you everything you need Philippians 4:19 God’s faithfulness has never depended on the faithfulness of his children. He is faithful even when we aren’t. When we lack courage, he doesn’t. He has made a history out of using people in spite of people.   (more…) Share This

A Gentle Lamb
2007-10-26 08:14:07
Where God’s love is, there is no fear, because God’s perfect love drives out fear. 1 John 4:18   A lot of us live with a hidden fear that God is angry at us. Somewhere, sometime, some Sunday school class or some television show convinced us that God has a whip behind his back, a paddle in his back pocket, and he’s going to nail us when we’ve gone too far. No concept could be more wrong! Our Savior’s Father is very fond of us and only wants to share his love with us. (more…) Share This

If You’re Pricing Them Right, You Can Get Them Sold!
2007-10-25 23:30:27
With foreclosures on the rise and tougher lending practices, inventory is also on the rise! If listings are getting harder to sell, why take any more? How about leverage…how about marketing opportunities… and how about networking opportunities? So how do you get them sold? I believe if you price them right, you can get them sold. I don’t mean eventually getting to the price, you got to price them right the moment they hit the market. Statistics show that by the third week you should have reached peak interest in the listing. Knowing that, it is key to price the listing right from the start. Below you will find some recent strategies that I am using in the North Georgia Mountain real estate market to assist me in pricing my listings to sell. 1. Know the Market: Price Accordingly. After you do your research and you know the prices of the homes that have sold in the area, price at or below those prices. Also keep in mind that as Buyer’s are looking for property, they are going to

No Secrets From God
2007-10-25 07:18:48
If anyone belongs to Christ, there is a new creation. The old things have gone; everything is made new.2 Corinthians 5:17 Have you been there? Have you felt the ground of conviction give away beneath your feet? The ledge crumbles, your eyes widen, and down you go. Poof! Now what do you do?…When we fall, we can dismiss it. We can deny it. We can distort it. Or we can deal with it…. (more…) Share This

Hometown Halloween On The Square
2007-10-24 16:47:02
Fall is one of my absolute favorite times of the year. Football, Festivals, Colorful Leaves and….Oh yes, Candy! Boy do I mean candy, and lots of it. I mentioned in a previous post about the Halloween Safe Zone over the mountain in Blue Ridge Georgia sponsored by the Blue Ridge Business Association. Well I didn’t know that Blairsville also had a similar event, but they do. Hometown Halloween on the Square will be on Wednesday, October 31st. Festivities will begin around 6:00 and last ‘til either the candy is gone or 8:00, which ever comes first. This event is sponsored by the Downtown Development Authority and the Union County Historical Society. This years event will consist of costume contests, storytelling, children’s games, lots of activities and I am sure a whole bunch of fun! (more…) Share This

What Heaven Holds
2007-10-24 07:40:36
There is joy in the presence of the angels of God when one sinner changes his heart and life. Luke 15:10 Why do Jesus and His angels rejoice over one repenting sinner? Can they see something we can’t? Do they know something we don’t? Absolutely. They know what heaven holds….. (more…) Share This

Get Rid Of The Sorghum Festival Once And For All?
2007-10-22 20:56:17
It’s Fall in the North Georgia Mountains, and that can mean one….well it can mean a bunch of things! Vibrant Fall colors for one, and if your a Realtor these days it could mean a whole lot of “Tire Kickers and leaf-lookers!” Oh yeah, it could also mean great Fall Festival s. You could pull out a Georgia map, pack in a wad of baccer, then close your eyes and spit to hit any number of towns in North Georgia that has their own festival. In Ellijay Georgia they have the Apple Festival, in Blue Ridge Georgia, the Harvest Sale, and in Blairsville Georgia they have the Sorghum Festival. However…Will there be a 39th Annual Sorghum Festival? I was able to visit ol’ Fort Sorghum this past weekend, and although it was very crowded and somewhat frustrating, festivals are what Fall in the North Georgia Mountains is all about. My son Bryson, his friend Kyle and I were able to take a few minutes out of the day to sneak over to check out the ever growing Car Show that takes place during the

WARNING! Level 4 Drought Has All North Georgia Concerned!
2007-10-19 15:16:36
No Drinking water? That’s what everyone is talking about now. In my opinion, it is a nice change from all the recent hype of the November 6th vote on the proposed liquor by the drink ordinance within Fannin County. However, due to the worsening drought conditions, the Georgia EPD has declared a Level 4 drought for most of the northern state of Georgia. This has banned all types of residential outdoor water use. “The drought of 2007 has reached historic proportions, so it’s critical that we take immediate action to ensure Georgians have a sufficent supply of safe drinking water,” said EPD director Carol A. Couch. What has this done for homeowners on Lake Nottely, Lake Blue Ridge, and Lake Chatuge? Well, it has made them very concerned. I have a home on Lake Nottely, and our lake levels never even came close to being full this year. Many of our neighbors docks never even made it to the water this year. The Tennessee Valley Authority has stated that these extended drought conditio

Byron Wyndham is an attorney with over 25 years experience in Georgia real estate law. He has represented buyers, sellers, real estate agents, and lenders within his practice. A graduate of the College of William and Mary in Virginia, he began his practice in 1973. Finishing Strong
2007-11-10 09:19:01
Think about Jesus’ example. He held on while wicked people were doing evil things to Him. So do not get tired and stop trying. Hebrews 12:3 Heaven was not foreign to Jesus. He is the only person to live on earth after He had lived in heaven. As believers, you and I will live in heaven after time on earth, but Jesus did the opposite. He knew heaven before He came to earth. He knew what awaited Him upon His return. And knowing what awaited Him in heaven enabled Him to bear the shame on earth. He “accepted the shame as if it were nothing because of the joy that God put before Him” (Hebrews 12:2) In His final moments, Jesus focused on the joy God put before Him. He focused on the prize of heaven. By focusing on the prize, He was able not only to finish the race but to finish it strong. Max Lucado Tags: God, Strong , Finish, Race Share This

A Compassionate God
2007-11-09 07:37:21
He comforts us every time we have trouble, so when others have trouble, we can comfort them. 2 Corinthians 1:4 My child’s feelings are hurt. I tell her she’s special. My child is injured. I do whatever it takes to make her feel better. My child is afraid. I won’t go to sleep until she is secure. I’m not a hero…I’m a parent. When a child hurts, a parent does what comes naturally. He helps… Why don’t I let my Father do for me what I am more than willing to do for my own children? I’m learning….Being a father is teaching me that when I am criticized, injured, or afraid, there is a Father who is ready to comfort me. There is a Father who will hold me until I’m better, help me until I can live with the hurt, and who won’t go to sleep when I’m afraid of waking up and seeing in the dark. Ever. Love Is All You'll Find
2007-11-08 06:48:55
We know the love that God has for us, and we trust that love. 1 John 4:16 Water must be wet. A fire must be hot. You can’t take the wet out of water and still have water. You can’t take the heat out of fire and still have fire. In the same way, you can’t take the love out of [God]…and still have Him exist. For he was….and is….Love. Probe deep within him. Explore every corner. Search every angle. Love is all you will find. Go to the beginning of every decision he has made and you’ll find it. Go to the end of every story he has told and you’ll see it. Love. No bitterness. No evil. No cruelty. Just Love. Flawless love. Passionate love. Vast and pure love. He is Love. Max Lucado Tags: God, Love Share This

The Secrets of a Successful Mountain Cabin Rental!
2007-11-05 23:13:36
It's a foggy crisp fall morning in the North Georgia Mountain s. You walk out on the dew dampened front porch wrapped in your wool blanket. As you bend down to sit in the porch rocker, you notice a faint silhouette of what appears to be a deer. Then, just as you get comfortable and begin sipping on your coffee, there they are….2 small fawn cautiously appearing from no where. True freedom from anxiety! How would you like to experience a similar instance? Do you own a cabin in the mountains? If not, how can you possibly have the chance for the same experience? The Real Estate industry is one of the highest, if not the highest producer of revenue for most of the North Georgia Mountains. Not just the sale of  cabins, but also the rental of them. I can't even begin to tell you how many cabin rental companies there are in the Blue Ridge, Blairsville, and Ellijay Georgia area. The funny thing is, just last week I overheard two couples talking about how hard it was to find a cabi

Who Else Wants Some B-B-Q?
2007-11-14 17:18:05
The Pink Pig If you are driving on the Appalachian Highway just south of Blue Ridge Georgia, you might want to take a sharp left in Cherry Log. There you will find a quaint little old building built around 1950. It was originally built as a country store and grist mill. It was purchased by the Holloway’s in 1967. Pit cooked B-B-Q with Bud’s special sauce and homemade Brunswick stew cooked in an iron pot has made this unique place known far and wide. It has been said that the Pink Pig is to North Georgia, what the Varsity is to Atlanta. It is conveniently located to the many folks who come to the North Georgia Mountains looking to get away from it all if only for a weekend. Ask any local person where to eat and they will give you directions to the Pink Pig. The fried chicken and homemade onion rings are almost as well-known as the garlic salad made with the “secret recipe.” All food is prepared to order so be prepared to wait for your fresh hamburger or steak to cook.

Saying “Thank You”
2007-11-14 07:05:53
Thank the Lord because He is good. His love continues forever. Psalm 106:1   Worship is when you’re aware that what you’ve been given is far greater than what you can give. Worship is the awareness that were it not for His touch, you’d still be hobbling and hurting, bitter and broken. Worship is the half-glazed expression on the parched face of a desert pilgrim as he discovers that the oasis is not a mirage. Worship is the “thank you” that refuses to be silenced. We have tried to make a science out of worship. We can’t do that. We can’t do that any more than when we can “sell love” or “negotiate peace.” Worship is a voluntary act of gratitude offered by the saved to the Savior, by the healed to the Healer, and by the delivered to the Deliverer.   Max Lucado Tags: Sell, Negotiate, worship Share This

Honoring Our Veterans
2007-11-10 21:04:46
I would like to take this time to thank all of the Veterans who fought and those who are still fighting for our freedom. I was able to attend the memorial that was held today at the Veterans Memorial Park in Blue Ridge. The many Fannin County Veterans where honored there following a parade that traveled along the Veterans Memorial Highway leading to park. Retired Army Lt. Col. George Pletcher was Master of Ceremonies, followed by the keynote speaker, good friend and fellow Rotarian Army Lt. Col. Jot Thomas. The Fannin County High School Marching Band performed to near perfection during the parade and ceremonies. The Blue Ridge City Police department did a great job handling the traffic through town on such a usual busy Saturday this time of year. The North Georgia Color Guard posted the flags and carried the colors. It was good to have been there and to honor the men and women who have fought and those who have died to provide the very blanket of freedom that we all enjoy. (more&hellip

What Everybody Ought To Know About Water In The Mountains
2007-11-19 16:56:11
Legal Advice from J. Byron Wyndham and Associates  I am often asked about the difference between buying property and living only in the mountains, and owning mountain property but living in a metropolitan area. Aside from the fresh air, bubbling streams, and beautiful mountain views, there are some other differences that people in the mountains take for granted, which visitors or part-time owners may not notice. We have recently been enduring a terrible drought in Georgia. Virtually the whole state is under a watering ban that includes watering for yards, for washing cars, and for other personal purposes.  However, the ban does not apply to most of the mountain area of north Georgia. Why?? Most visitors are unaware that residents of the mountain areas in Georgia obtain their water from wells. We rely on the water table to supply us with water. Even though there may not be a government-issued watering ban, in times of drought wells can also be affected. (more…) Share Th

Jan Hackett of the Fannin County Chamber of Commerce was quoted in The News Observer as saying “This is great news for our community, and yet another way to get the Blue Ridge name out to the tourists.” According to the Trip Advisor survey, the major trends travelers value include cleanliness, which is rated above all else, and an environmental friendly community. If you have never been on the forum of Trip Advisor, I would suggest you check it out. Colossians 3:16   So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. Colossians 2:6–7   Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men, for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things. Psalm 107:8–9   You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sack cloth and clothed me with joy, that my heart may sing to you and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give you thanks forever. WARNING: Inspect The Water Before You Buy Your Mountain Cabin!
2007-12-07 13:05:58
Here is some more great legal advice from J. Byron Wyndham and Associates at Law.   It’s really true that it’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks. Although I have been handling real estate closings on the computer ever since the PC and the software have been around, there are still things in the computer world that I don’t understand. Blogs are one of them.   I certainly understand about writing a journal and even putting it on a web site. But how does anyone find it?  There are millions of web sites and to have one web site “blog” and somehow people find it??   All that is to lead up to responses that I received from my last post. I truly appreciate those of you who took the time to write and leave a comment. From the comments I received, it seems I need to do a follow up.   Wells and water are obviously very important and essential in a home in the mountains.   I should have noted that testing and inspection should also be

Christ Is All That Matters
2007-12-04 07:18:17
Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before God made anything at all and is supreme over all creation. Christ is the one through whom God created everything in heaven and earth. He made the things we can see, and the things we can’t see – kings, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities. Everything has been created through him and for him. He existed before everything else began, and he holds all creation together. Colossians 1: 15–18 The Apostle Paul is explaining to us here Christ’s preeminence. He created you, he set you free, he forgave you, he is the image of God and the firstborn of all creation, he preceeded all things, designed all things, and He holds all things together. Christ is all that matters. Are you focused on Him daily? Are you beginning your day talking with God, casting your care and burdens upon him daily? God wants to be first in your life. He wants to be in all you say, do and think. He wants others to see Him living in you. I know we are
