MyStFrancis, St Francis Community Website
0000-00-00 00:00:00
After having moved to St Francis recently I thought it a good idea to create a community website. There aren't really many of them around on the web so I'm kind of trying to jump the gun. St Francis is situated on the Garden Route in Eastern Cape, South Africa.

Chokka Block Restaurant in St Francis
0000-00-00 00:00:00
Last night we just didn't feel like cooking so we decided to go to the Chokka Block Restaurant in Port St Francis . Definitely worthwhile. If you are ever in St Francis I would definitely suggest this restaurant.

Standard Bank Again
0000-00-00 00:00:00
Standard Bank has been at it again. I just don't understand this institution. So I paid my credit card off month before last. End of last month, a payment goes off again. Phone them, no I have to cancel the debit order it doesn't stop just because no money is owed. Hallo!! Anybody out there? Standard Bank must be the most idiotic bank I have ever come across. Their service is pathetic and they have no idea about customer care!

Gallery
0000-00-00 00:00:00
I've been wanting to install a gallery for a while now. Lately I've been taking a lot of photos. Also seeing as we have moved out of town now, it's a nice way to show our friends and family from afar what we are up to. Thanks to the creator of Lightbox for creating an awesome product and allowing us to use it for free. You can view my gallery by following the link in the menu on the left or just by clicking, here.

Out of the city
0000-00-00 00:00:00
It's great to live outside the city, The funny thing I noticed this morning is that suddenly I don't have anything to write in the Rant & Rave category. I used to write there almost every day. One big thing I definitely can't say I'll miss is the traffic. The worst thing that happens here on the road is landing behind someone that is on holiday (and there are a lot of them). These people think because they're on holiday it's a good idea to drive 30km/h. Mm, do I detect the beginnings of a Rant & Rave there?

Web Designers in Port Elizabeth
0000-00-00 00:00:00
Shame you have to have pity on the poor web designers in PE (Port Elizabeth ). My good friend over at MyPE posted this article on his website for the Port Elizabeth community. Will code HTML for food. You've gotta feel some pity for the poor web designer. I thought to come up with another one. 'Will swap web hosting space for a warm bed'.

What is Valentine's Day anyway?
0000-00-00 00:00:00
I'm sorry to sound like a drip, but I just can't get all hyped up about Valentine 's Day. Ok, so it's the day that you celebrate your love for your loved one. Isn't that supposed to be everyday, why need a specific day to do this?

In St Francis at last
0000-00-00 00:00:00
So we've made it to Cape St Francis in one piece, or should I say, many pieces. It's amazing the crap you accumulate over the years. I remember when we moved to our previous home we managed to throw away about half the contents of our house. Well our new home in St Francis has less space than the previous one and we had to throw away a lot more.

People who don't pay bills
0000-00-00 00:00:00
Every now and again you meet someone who make as if they are your best friend because you can do something for them. The friendship is normally good enough until such person has milked you for what they wanted from you. When the time comes for them to return the favour, you will find a cold shoulder and a locked door. Here is one such person, click here.

Standard Bank, just a standard bank
0000-00-00 00:00:00
Standard Bank is the most useless bank out of the lot we have here in South Africa. I don't know if they are actually worldwide. I sure hope not, because their services are just so... standard. Not like certain other banks I know... *cough*FNB*cough*.

After Christmas Holiday Debt
0000-00-00 00:00:00
So it was Christmas just now, had a nice holiday, awesome New Year's and now it's back to reality. My bank accounts are empty, credit cards are maxed out and I don't know if I'm glad end of month is here or not.

Balizza in Port Elizabeth
0000-00-00 00:00:00
There is a new pub in PE (Port Elizabeth , South Africa). It's called Balizza. Situated in Heugh Road in Walmer on Times Square we found the decor to be very stylish and attractive. Balizza is an italian fashion related name. Come to think of it, maybe that was the reason for Fashion TV on all the television screens.

Convert mailto links to htmlentities
0000-00-00 00:00:00
As a web developer we all know that sticking mailto: links on a site without any protection is a big no-no, because of spam harvesters. Unfortunately from time to time you get clients that insist on this. I've noticed that some web developers insert the mailto: link by converting the whole link to htmlentities. I used to have a site bookmarked where you can insert the address and it will automatically give you the code to copy and paste into your site, but could for the life of me not find it the other day.

Joomla! 1.5 - Dreamweaver Extension
0000-00-00 00:00:00
Joomla! 1.5 has arrived. The stable version was released on 22 January 2008. If you are a web developer, you must have come across Joomla! before. The big thing is of course, customising Joomla!. It is fairly simple if you understand how the template system works.

Sell stuff on the web
0000-00-00 00:00:00
After recently upgrading my notebook with some more memory, I was left with two RAM modules in perfect working condition. They were barely a month old. So after looking at Bid or Buy and various other sites, I discovered a forum which I have not visited for a long time, MyADSL. It's mainly for South Africans and discusses burning issues regarding the state of broadband in our country. On there I discovered (well was referred by a friend) a classifieds section. I can see that it's probably mostly for geeks selling pc components, but I only had the RAM on there for about a week and I got an SMS from someone interested in it.

Shoot 'Em Up
0000-00-00 00:00:00
Looking for some action? Shoot 'Em Up guarantees it! Excellent movie with a bit of a Tarantino flavour with stars such as Clive Owen, Monica Bellucci and Paul Giamatti. Mr. Smith (Clive Owen) is waiting for a bus when a pregnant woman runs by, chased by a group of thugs. Smith kills them and delivers the baby, but the mother is killed. Chased by the evil Mr. Hertz (Paul Giamatti) and an army of goons, Smith enlists DQ (Monica Bellucci), a lactating prostitute, to help him care for the baby.

Move to St Francis
0000-00-00 00:00:00
So we are moving to Cape St Francis in South Africa from Port Elizabeth on the 9th of February 2008. Everything has been set in motion. But now because we are moving from our current place, our landlord thought it a good idea to quickly renovate the place. There are boxes everywhere, builders, painters, you name it. And they don't just work in one area at a time, they have to work all over the place. The poor dogs don't know what's cooking. Anyway, been to St Francis Bay this week to work and discuss our contract. Everything's in order. I've already picked up some design work as well as web design work. Oh the joys of being a freelance designer. Sometimes I wish I could split myself in two. St Francis here we come!

Motorola Phone Tools Upgrade
0000-00-00 00:00:00
As I've mentioned before I spoilt myself with a new laptop for Christmas. This was also my first step into the world of Windows Vista. I've got a Motorola RAZR V3x. I'm not one for fancy phones. I have a nice camera, thank you Sony! Anyway, the reason for getting this phone was mainly because of it's 3G capabilities. I often have to travel, so it is quite a handy feature to have, not needing yet another 'add on' to carry around. I got the phone before Windows Vista came out, so the Motorola Phone Tools software that comes with the phone was still an old version. I managed to get everything to work on Vista, except Phone Tools.

The Golden Compass
0000-00-00 00:00:00
Just came back from watching The Golden Compass . I'm very much one for fantasy and thought this movie to be quite excellent. Apparently it's part of a trilogy written by author Philip Pullman. The movie is directed by Chris Weitz and features stars like, Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig.

27Dinner in Port Elizabeth
0000-00-00 00:00:00
The 27Dinner has made it's way to Port Elizabeth at last. If you are a web designer, developer, programmer, blogger or just an ordinary run-of-the-mill geek, you might not want to miss this event. We are very excited about this and will be sure to be there on the 27th April 2008. It will be held at the Algoa Bay Yacht Club. You can find out more and also sign up by clicking here. In the past these events have only been held in Durban, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town. Little old PE is getting on the map. Invite your friends! Remember there are only 50 seats available.

Virtual Tours Cheaper Option now in SA
0000-00-00 00:00:00
Virtual Tours have been one of latest and greatest things to hit the real estate market here in South Africa. If you are a real estate agent, you must have come across this technology before. Getting someone to do a virtual tour for you is however quite an expensive endeavour. Not just that, most of these guys are difficult to get hold of or they stay out of town. Well now there is a cheaper, affordable option which will make every estate agent smile.

How funny was that?
0000-00-00 00:00:00
I found this site the other day, called Kak Funny - we're funnier than you. Now I'm not sure if the author is male or female, but he/she definitely had me cracking up. I found the link on Underculture. I'm afraid the humor might only apply to South Africans though. True South African style. *Edit - I really need to learn to read more carefully. The posts are by both male and female persona. And not just one person.

St Francis Bay
0000-00-00 00:00:00
St Francis Bay is one of those undiscovered secrets of the Eastern Cape. Only an hour's drive from Port Elizabeth, it boasts one of the finest pieces of coastline along the Garden Route.

Dagwood's - Port Elizabeth
0000-00-00 00:00:00
In Cape Rd., Central, Port Elizabeth , there is a place called Dagwood's. Me and my wife went there for a pub lunch the other day and was so impressed that we returned last night with our friends.

Windows Vista
0000-00-00 00:00:00
So I spoilt myself with a brand new laptop. Being into web development, I have been warned by my fellow developers to steer clear of Windows -Vista .htm">Windows Vista . My new laptop came with Vista, but I had the option to change it to XP. I thought, what the hell lets take the plunge. Eventually everyone will upgrade anyway. Being a designer and developer, my greatest concern was for software compatability.

Rocky Ridge Guest Farm
0000-00-00 00:00:00
Hope everyone had a great New Years. For the first time in year's we decided to go away for a change. We were lucky enough to find space on very short notice at a place called Rocky Ridge Guest Farm just outside Port Alfred in the Eastern Cape. We were a group of 12 and left on the 30th of December.

Season's Greetings
0000-00-00 00:00:00
Now that we have all had our christmas dinners and opened our gifts and are preparing for the big party of the year in a few days time, I would just like to take the opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas (yes I know it's late) and an absolutely prosperous new year. May all those dreams that were just out of reach in 2007 just fall in your lap in 2008!

Eastern Cape Motors Good Service
0000-00-00 00:00:00
I'm always the first to rant & rave about bad service. Why? Well I feel if I pay for something, I should get what I pay for. If I get it at a discounted rate, then fine, bad service is excusable, but if you are going to charge me exorbitant prices, then you must show me what it is I'm paying for. So all that aside. For the very first time in years, I have experienced absolutely, marvelously professional service. Eastern Cape Motors in Newton Park, Port Elizabeth. They've given me hope that good service hasn't become a mere pipe dream here in South Africa.

Freebies, discounts and non-payers
0000-00-00 00:00:00
This is a subject that really urks me. In our industry we get a lot of people that want things for free. Or they want a cheaper price than your quoted price. Now I used to do a lot of 'charity' work. If it's a charity organisation or someone in whose cause I believe, I would give them a discount. People also often approach me and tell me about this new business idea they have and then offer me shares in the business if I do their media work either for free or at a largely discounted price.

The Facebook Conspiracy
0000-00-00 00:00:00
Who doesn't have a Facebook profile these days? Hands? Come on don't be shy! Yes don't we all love our Facebook. It is quite an amazing concept. I have met people on there who I never thought I would see again in my life. In fact, at first I hardly recognise them from their profile pics. But have you ever given any more thought to the whole thing, especially now that they are going to make the information available to the search engines.
