Dems to support Bush? And impeachment q's left out of polls?
2006-12-18 08:43:00
In Miss Gerry Charlotte Phelps's fantastic blog, she predicts that Dems Will Move Toward Bush's Iraq War Policy: 1. A Democrat Congress is already credited with "losing" the War in Vietnam. (After Nixon and Kissinger negotiated a "withdrawal with honor" with the North Vietnamese in December 1974, the South Vietnamese government was managing the war on its own with U.S. financial support - just as China and the U.S.S.R. were financially supporting the North Vietnamese. But in early 1975 the Democrat Congress suddenly voted to cut off U.S. funding to the South Vietnamese. New President Ford vetoed the bill, but the Dems overturned his veto. The South Vietnamese government fell soon after.) 2. Getting blamed for a defeat in Iraq would be political suicide for the Dems. While some Dems would like to see us defeated, most would not. And even those who would like that will come to understand that losing the war because of the action of a Democrat-controlled Congress would in fact

A bit bereaved…
2006-12-18 06:47:00
Eager bloggers hear about a topic that drives people crazy and haste to bash everybody up and down. I'm days away from feeling that angry and ready to dip my feet in the angry water. There is a lot of mention about impeachment these days. There are elements of the same go-around as last time we had a President. Rep. Cynthia McKinney, on her way out, has filed a bill to impeach President Bush. Incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi laughed it off, most inappropriately. Impeachment, for those who don't know or may have forgotten, on a federal (or state) official for crimes such as treason or bribery, or in Bush's alleged case, high crimes or misdemeanors. The subsequent two are not easily defined by the Constitution, making the whole preceding, to a certain degree, very sore. Dems are now avoiding McKinney like the black plague (or should I say bird flu?). I have heard many dubious conversations about how she'll "never get the 2/3 vote" or "she just did it to get attention"

Still digging for answers to 9/11? PART II
2006-12-13 08:23:00
CBS is reporting that a third of American people feel that the government was behind 9/11. The past few weeks there have been mumblings of conspiracy, but is the thought gaining ground? Seems so. Just a few days ago, here is what CBS had to say: According to a July poll conducted by Scripps News Service, one-third of Americans think the government either carried out the 9/11 attacks or intentionally allowed them to happen in order to provide a pretext for war in the Middle East. The Internet has had a monumental impact spiking the interest in the truth of 9/11. The article goes on to describe the stirrings that started it: The Truth Movement's recent growth can be largely attributed to the Internet-distributed documentary "Loose Change." A low-budget film produced by two 20-somethings that purports to debunk the official story of 9/11, it's been viewed over the Internet millions of times. The recent interest in the topic has peaked in the past few weeks as blogger on all sides ha

Digg this: Still digging for answers to 9/11?
2006-12-13 07:33:00
Nothing in my life shocked me to my core as much as the morning of September 11, 2001. NYC's twin towers crashing down broke the hearts of a nation. And nothing wells up as much emotion and heartbreak as that day America wept... except when I hear mumblings suspecting fowl play. The humdrum of conspiracy theories surrounding 9/11 has died down, or so I thought. When I hear people or blogger (well, they are people too) talk of 9/11 as a conspiracy, as one big sheet pulled over everybody's eyes, I shudder. Can this be so? Who could have done it? President Bush? The media? Most people keenly believe that since Nixon went down for his woolly conspiracy, it must be impossible to pull of another. Should we live in such confidence? Since the days of Lyndon Johnson and Lady Bird we have known that war makes money and stimulates the economy. The government and the media are supposed to keep each other in check. It sends chills straight through my body to think of them teaming up and spinning

Iraq offended... lol
2006-12-11 02:52:00
Iraq's President is offended that the U.S. wants to continue to train the Iraqi police and army. The Iraqi president on Sunday sharply criticized the bipartisan U.S. report calling for a new approach to the war, saying it contained dangerous recommendations that would undermine his country's sovereignty and was "an insult to the people of Iraq." President Jalal Talabani, a Kurd and one of the staunchest U.S. supporters within the Iraqi leadership, also said U.S. training of Iraq's army and police had gone "from failure to failure." He criticized the recommendation by the Iraq Study Group calling for increasing the number of U.S. troops embedded with Iraqi units to train Iraq's forces from 3,000 to 4,000 currently to 10,000 to 20,000. "It is not respecting the desire of the Iraqi people to control its army and to be able to rearm and train Iraqi forces under the leadership of the Iraqi government," he said during an interview with several reporters in his office in Baghdad. from

Iraq = not as bad as it seems?
2006-12-11 02:38:00
The bloggers at Blogs For Bush don't think Iraq is falling apart. Perhaps only some of the media likes to portray it as so? As President Bush and Sen. McCain push for more troops in Iraq, and after 3 years developing a democracy in Muslim-ruled Iraq, one must ask... What is really going on in Iraq? Iraq Oil Revenues Surge proves the opposite of a failing, dilapidated Iraq. One would hope...This is impossible if, as the MSM and ISG claim, the situation in Iraq is deteriorating....but don't take my word for it, take it from an Iraqi who lives in Baghdad: According to a recent paper published last November by Dow Jones (don't have a link, read a summary on paper) after the world economic forum in the dead sea, Iraq's income from oil exports for this year was at 35 billion dollars with a 14.3% increase from last year's total. And that if oil export levels retain the current level and under stable prices, the coming year will witness a record income that was never reached

My return to the blogging world
2006-11-16 04:55:06
After taking a hiatus from blogging the past few months I have come back to my senses. After beginning the application process to teach English in China I panicked-- a world war could go on and I wouldn't even know! No more news, no more blogs (I read a few dozen!), no more political and social thought! Ick! Then my normal flow of political, social, spiritual, and why-are-we-living-this-life thoughts began to invade my brain. It would be too clique to say "I couldn't eat! I couldn't sleep!" I just had to blog. My blogs: http://thinkingsand.blogspot.com news, politics, thoughts, current events, cultural stuff, religious ramblings, thoughts of society and the world today-- whatever fills my brain and leaps into words on screen. http://whatisgwbushdoing.blogspot.com pretty self-explanatory. I take a fairly neutral stance on Bush, sometimes bashing him, sometimes encouraging the media to give him a break. All in moderation, of course. Very U.S. government news heavy. So that's that. Hi

Saddam and I both aren't feeling too hungry... WWIII crisis and Venezuela gas crisis??
2006-07-24 07:33:00
Saddam Hussein is on trial and has been conducting a hunger strike for the past 17 days!! Today, as the Washington Post reports car bombs in Kirkuk,Iraq killed at least 66 Iraqis, ex-Iraqi President Saddam Hussein awaits trial for murder and genocide. Reuters reports that Saddam is currently on-trial for killing 148 Shi'ite men and teenagers in Dujail in 1982. Soon he'll be on trial for genocide against the Kurds in the 1980s in the Anfal campaign. Sidenote on the Anfal campaign:The Anfal campaign, which began in 1986 and lasted until 1989, is said to have cost the lives of 182,000 civilians, according to Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International.... "Arabization," another major element of Al-Anfal, was a tactic used by Hussein's regime to drive Kurdish families out of their homes in cities like Kirkuk, which are in the valuable oil field areas. The campaign utilized heavy population redistribution... Kurds have always referred to these attacks as the genocide. In December 2005

Violence in Iraq and Israel... so early in the morning? And a Lewinsky scandal for Bush?
2006-07-23 10:42:00
BBC News greets us early this morning of a car bomb that has killed at least "26 people in a mainly Shia Muslim area of the Iraq i capital, Baghdad. More than 60 others were injured in the attack near a market in the eastern district of Sadr City" (here). And this just in: British Foreign Office minister Kim Howells has publicly bashed Israel 's bombing of Lebanon. The U.S. ally, Britain, has thus far been some-what support. According to the BBC, he continued, "The destruction of the infrastructure, the death of so many children and so many people. These have not been surgical strikes" (here). Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin is very angry about President Bush's veto of stem cell legislation last week. According to Courier-Medill News Service, he has vowed to reintroduce the bill after the November election. Colorado Rep. Diana DeGette is pretty pissed too. She called President Bush's veto a "old, calculated, cynical political gain" (the AP reported, here). (if you want to have a voice e

Hezbollah: The next WWIII or major humanitarian disaster?
2006-07-23 01:39:00
An AP reporter has labeled him as "the unlikely new hero of Arab nationalism" (here). He is Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, the leader of Hezbollah . Today Israeli troops began a large ground assault on the militant group of Lebanon. What else could they do? They want to stop the rockets being launched across the border. Hezbollah began the fighting and the crossing of the borders on July 12 when members of the group captured two Israeli soldiers and killed eight others. The AP reports that 370 people have been killed in Lebanon and in Israel, 34. Reuters reports U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says any immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah would be a "false promise" (here). The U.S. and President Bush are currently opposed to talks of peace, vowing to not negotiate or go soft on terrorist Islam group Hezbollah. "Secretary Rice will make it clear that resolving the crisis demands confronting the terrorist group that launched the attacks and the nations that support it," Pr

Bush faces moral issues and war war war
2006-07-21 03:09:00
Well, he did it. President George W. Bush vetoed the stem-cell research funding bill yesterday. Government funds will not be used for stem-cell research. Newspapers, like the Arizona Republic, ran headlines that read "Bush's stem-cell veto likely to cost GOP in fall elections. Many are predicting that the timing and moral issues surrounding Bush's veto could negatively affect the November congressional elections. Republicans in favor of stem-cell research include Nancy Reagan and Arnold Schwarzenegger. In other moral issues... The House passed legislation yesterday to protect the Pledge of Allegiance as it is. The House voted 260-167 to protect the Pledge which contains the phrase "Under God". Sec. of State Condoleezza Rice is headed to the United Nations tonight to begin multi-country talks about what is being called a "military crisis" between Hezbollah and Israel. The United States tragically remains opposed to peacekeeping initiatives. The Lebanese prime minister is begging for s

The Right Speaks Back To President Bush
2006-07-19 07:50:00
Apparently the right wants to talk to President Bush! They have a few things to say. The Washington Post reports, "At a moment when his conservative coalition is already under strain over domestic policy, President Bush is facing a new and swiftly building backlash on the right over his handling of foreign affairs. Conservative intellectuals and commentators who once lauded Bush for what they saw as a willingness to aggressively confront threats and advance U.S. interests said in interviews that they perceive timidity and confusion about long-standing problems including Iran and North Korea, as well as urgent new ones such as the latest crisis between Israel and Hezbollah." Harsh examples include: -Kenneth Adelman, a Reagan administration arms-control official: "What they are doing on North Korea or Iran is what [Sen. John F.] Kerry would do, what a normal middle-of-the-road president would do. This administration prided itself on molding history, not just reacting to events. Its a

President Bush Opens His Mouth!
2006-07-19 07:18:00
This week President George W. Bush has a lot to say! To begin, the USATODAY reports on what has liberals everywhere in a rage this week: President Bush personally blocked a Justice Department ethics probe of the government's warrantless anti-terror eavesdropping program, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales disclosed to Congress on Tuesday.... Although Bush barred Justice Department ethics investigators from looking into how the program was developed and implemented, other department officials received clearance to track down leaks that led to the revelation of the program by The New York Times in December.... Since the revelation of the eavesdropping program, which bypasses court approval for monitoring calls, Congress and the White House have argued over the president's authority to start it without lawmakers' authorization. (here) What an intense power struggle! President Bush says he is protecting America while many feel personally attacked by his secret policies. Yet, some polici

President Bush celebrates America's Independence Day
2006-07-05 05:02:00
President George W. Bush spent July 4 At Fort Bragg encouraging soldiers. "You are serving our country at a time when our country needs you. And because of your courage, every day is Independence Day in America ," said Bush. North Korea has lit it's own fireworks of disruption when it launched short-range missiles today. MSNBC reports, North Korea on Wedneday morning test-fired at least five missiles, including one inter-continental missile that appeared to have failed in flight, in a highly provocative move on the US's Independence Day that will invite a strong diplomatic response. ... The news caused some sharp falls in Asian stock and currency markets initially but the heavy selling appeared to have halted by around 10am Tokyo time. ... Amid crippling US financial sanctions and the stagnation of the six-party talks on its nuclear weapons programme, Kim Jong-il's regime has been looking for ways to force the international community to deal with it on its terms. Rape in Iraq and Supreme Court Cast Scorn on President Bush
2006-07-03 23:08:00
The Associated Press reports today that an American ex-soldier has been charged with the rape of Iraq i woman and the murder of her family. Steven D. Green is a 21-year-old former Army private first class who was discharged because of a "personality disorder". The rape victim's age could be pinned down, but she could have been as young as 14. The cover-up and the crime surely put President Bush in the shadow of scorn as his approval ratings continue to dip under 50%. Thursday's Supreme Court ruling and its implications on President Bush and war in Iraq are just beginning a turbulent battle on Capitol Hill. The Supreme Court undercut the President last week by applying international law to his war on terrorism. The ruling opens the door to the possibility of the President and servicemen being tried for war crimes. Pete Yost of the Associated Press wrote today, "Of all the steps the Supreme Court could have taken to undercut President Bush's legal position in the war on terror, applyin

War crimes for President Bush?
2006-07-01 01:25:00
The President that fought so hard to bring war crimes against Saddam Hussein... moving closer to being charged with war crimes himself? Big news. The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that President Bush's administration's plan to put Guantnamo detainees on trial before military commissions violates international law and concluded that the commissions were unauthorized by federal statute. The Washington Post wrote today, Yesterday's Supreme Court ruling, definitively curbing the Bush White House's assertion of nearly unlimited executive power in a time of war, puts the other two branches of government back in business... The ruling even raises the possibility that U.S. forces and Bush administration officials could be tried for war crimes. The Court says a provision of the Geneva Convention called Common Article 3 applies to the Guantnamo detainees and is enforceable in federal court for their protection. (read that here). President Bush for war-crimes? Everyone is accusing everyon

Bush calls NY Time's disclosure of secrets "disgraceful"
2006-06-28 01:38:00
In a shocking use of the freedom of speech last Thursday, the New York Times (followed by others) published a government anti-terrorism program that uses financial tracking. The Times published how the program was tracking bank transactions to follow terrorists. The Times was awarded journalism's highest award for the report, the Pulitzer Prize. Administration officials argued that reporting on the financial tracking operation would endanger national security. The article is here: Bank Data Is Sifted by U.S. in Secret to Block Terror, by New York Times reporters Eric Lichtblau and James Risen. Today President Bush called the disclosure a "disgrace".

Strong reactions to President Bush's plans for the Muslim world (Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan, to name a few)
2006-06-19 08:07:00
Recently there has been serveral surprising responses to President George W. Bush and his new trend of diplomacy with Iran and his spreading of democracy in the Muslim world. It was over a month ago when The Forward reported that Jewish activist groups asked President Bush to stop promising to defend the Israelis from the Iranians: "Jewish community leaders have urged the White House to refrain from publicly pledging to defend Israel against possible Iranian hostilities, senior Jewish activists said." (here) Perhaps the groups do not want the President to put ideas in the Iranians' heads! Especially if they are enriching uranium... It was nearly three months ago that Conservative Christian groups had a strong reaction to Bush and his converting (so to say) the Muslim world to democracy. New York's The Forward also reported this, saying, "With support for President Bush already at record lows, some Christian conservative leaders say that they are reconsidering their support for the ad

President Bush's emergency spending plan approved!
2006-06-16 07:58:00
The emergency spending bill, discussed at length below, was approved in the Senate yesterday by a 98-1 vote. The story is here. $66 BILLION of the approved $94.5 billion will go to military operations overseas. The USAToday says, "Still, there is increasing concern in Congress about the cost of the war in Iraq and the fact that the spending is kept on a set of loosely policed books that are kept separate from the rest of government operations." The article goes on, "On an unrelated defense policy bill, senators Wednesday voted 98-0 for an amendment by John McCain, R-Ariz., to require future funding for the wars to be considered in the same way as other government spending measures." It seems that President Bush is doing as bad a job as I am at paying off debt! ha!And PS-- yes, the $2.3 billion to combat avian flu was approved too. EEK!

Missing Money in Iraq and A Possible Impeachment for George W. Bush?

It doesn't seem like they can impeach President Bush for things he did in war times... except maybe if he's really stealing that much money... We'll have to wait and see.

Still waiting for Bush and his war council to meet!
2006-06-15 01:45:00
A top-notch scam by the government! (of course!!) While we "waited" for news from the supposed meeting President George W. Bush was going to hold at Camp David with his war council, President Bush popped up in Iraq itself! The meeting with advisors and President Bush's was council was a hoax, an understandable cover-up for the President's trip out to Iraq. President Bush encouraged the troops and promised protection. I stand still waiting for President Bush to gather together his war council and decide on a more definite plan for Iraq-- how to set up the new government, fight continued terrorism and unrest, and how (and WHEN!) to begin sending home our troops. We'll keep waiting for that answer. No more tricks, okay, Bush? Gosh, he promised what sounded like a WONDERFUL thing. He still did a wonderful thing by going to Iraq, yes, but those guys need to finish up in Iraq and send our troops home safely! Makes me wonder what else the government may be using for hoax ;)

Today's news keeps the world waiting - President Bush and Iraq, President Bush and Iran
2006-06-12 08:36:00
This blog about President George W. Bush provides such accountability for me to stay in-tune with the news for major and non-major sources. I'd like to just quickly recall my favorite moment in the Bush dynasty... Father of President George W. Bush (George H. W. Bush) said during his presidency on Aug. 27, 1987, "No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered as patriots. This is one nation under God." Keep in or take it out-- just shut up about it!! And my favorite W. Bush quote... "The most important job is not to be governor, or first lady in my case." On January 30, 2000 in a speech in Pella, Iowa. Meanwhile, President George W. Bush's impressive 2006 State Of The Union Address set lofty goals for one man who seems to stand alone against tyrants... he said, "Abroad, our nation is committed to an historic, long-term goal -- we seek the end of tyranny in our world. Some dismiss that goal as misguided idealism. In reality, the fut

Terrorism tops news headlines and gives President Bush a lot of demand
2006-06-11 00:47:00
In prep for the upcoming G8 summit financial leaders are already gathered and discussing the summit's most important topics: energy security, and tackling poverty and terrorist financing. The G8 summit will be held in ST. PETERSBURG. Members of the G8 include Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States. The whole world seems to be talking about terrorism. The media is filled with stories related to terrorism. What did we talk about when it came to politics before 9/11? Another summit of importance is taking place on Monday and Tuesday at Camp David. It is President Bush's summit on Iraq. Bush's national security team and military commanders will join to him to reevaluate policy on Iraq. There will even be a videoconference between Bush's Cabinet and top ministers in Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's new government. The Washington Post ran this headline this weekend: "Bush Praises Death of Terrorist Al-Zarqawi". Death is prevalent th

Money and Tragedy beg for G.W. Bush's Attention Today
2006-06-05 19:57:00
President George W. Bush is in the spotlight today. He is sending 6000 Guards to patrol the border (Read more). I am pleased to see action taking place that contributes to his agenda. In other news, Bush is taking action in what I'd call social reform. The morality platform, if you will. I'm not saying this is bad, Lord knows we could use more morality in this country. But should the government define marriage? Marriage, first historically defined in the Bible as a man and a woman, meets a crossroads today. That is because President Bush is pushing the gay marriage ban this week. Is it the government's job to protect the original definition of marriage? Perhaps if we want to continue to call it "marriage"-- but perhaps the name might possibly change too, from "marriage" to "union". Should President Bush be spending a lot of time arguing about gay marriage? Definitely not! President Bush argues, "Government, by recognizing and protecting marriage, serves the interests of all."

New Crisis For Bush and Nation: 3 Massacres in Iraq
2006-06-03 01:18:00
Bush is facing another crisis in Iraq today, The Times is reporting. Now three investigations are going on to probe U.S. servicemen/women and their connection with atrocities in Iraq. That story is here. The alleged Haditha massacre is said to have taken place in al-Haditha in November 2005 and 24 Iraqi citizens were killed. March 2006, in al-Ishaqi, American soldiers allegedly rounded up and shot 11 unarmed civilians, including five children and four women. On April 26, 2006, allegedly seven Marines and a Navy corpsman killed an Iraqi citizen. They are facing possible charges of murder, kidnapping and conspiracy. http://whatisgwbushdoing.blogspot.com/

George W. Bush's IRON FIST
2006-06-02 08:30:00
Iraqi PM vows to use "iron fist" to stop the spreading violence in Basra, an oil-rich, southern Iraqi area declared to be in a "state of emergency". USAToday reports that this is Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's first major policy speech since his government was sworn in May 20. Meanwhile George W. Bush has been using his iron fist to mark "a victory for the cause of freedom in the Middle East." He continues, "As this new unity government takes office, it carries with it the hopes of the Iraqi nation, and the aspirations of freedom-loving people across a troubled region" (from a speech on Monday, May 22, 2006 in Chicago, Ill. found on GOP.com). Members of Iraq's new unity government include, Maliki who is a Shia and was a part of the resistance to Saddam Hussein. The new president is a Kurd with the last name of Talabani (weird, I know). The speaker for the Council of Representatives is a Sunni who is against the use of violence for political ends. George W. Bush has used viol

Bush's today: Skin cancer and a dangerous Iraq
2006-12-19 06:21:00
Today it became public that President Bush's right-hand woman, Laura Bush, was treated for skin cancer on her leg just around Nov. 7. The First Lady had a squamous cell carcinoma removed, the second most common type of skin cancer. It was in very early stages. Reuters story here. Attacks in Iraq are at a record high, as published today by the Pentagon. Reports Reuters. , Attacks in Iraq on U.S.-led forces, local security personnel and civilians have surged 22 percent to record levels, the Pentagon said in its latest quarterly report on Iraq published on Monday. The report also noted a rise in civilian casualties and said this was directly linked to the rise of sectarian death squads, which were helped by elements of Iraqi forces. ... The average number of attacks per week rose to 959 in the three months from August 12 to November 10, from 784 in the previous three months, according to figures provided by the Pentagon to accompany the report. Great and Horrible Day For Republicans
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Good for Republicans : In raids in Iraq this morning, Iraqi and US forces captured the deputy health minister, reports the BBC. As for positive foreign relations, six-party negotiation talks with North Korea seem to be looking up, report many media, including Reuters, AP, and The New York Times. Not much talk on why and how the talks are going well. Let us hope. Lastly, an Army official reports there was no mistreatment in a case at Guantanamo Bay (story on CBS News). The all-too-famous terrorist holding ground has had Bush in hot water for several years now. These moments that make one proud to be an American coincide nicely with moments not to be one... (and of course, the Scooter Libby perjury trial!) Bad for Republicans: Officials are reporting the sixth downing of a helicopter in three weeks in Baghdad, reports Reuters. More bad news to follow. Problems in the US housing market will cause bad debt provisions for 2006 to be 20% higher than expected, reports the BBC. The slowing g
