Bioshock 2007-10-28 23:39:00 I have previously reviewed Gears of War and Halo 3. After playing Halo 3, I wasn't sure if I was going to find a better game on the 360. Well, I did, and it's title is Bioshock
.Set in the underwater dystopian city of Rapture, Bioshock immerses players in a unique world and an engrossing story unlike any other featured before in a video game. Not only is the story great and interesting, it is also long and involving, creating a meaningful and lengthy enjoyable gaming experience.Where Bioshock really stands out is the weaponry, combat system, and environmental interaction. In the world of Bioshock, a technology called plasmids exists, which allows people to modify their DNA to give them numerous special abilities. These include but are not limited to: firing flames from your fingertips, shooting an icy blast from your hand that freezes enemies in place, telekinesis allowing you to grab grenades thrown by enemies, and shooting bees out of your veins! Perhaps one of the coolest t
Sin City: Family Values up for Auction 2007-10-28 13:15:00 A few weeks back, I placed an order on Amazon for a bunch of comic books. These included a great number of excellent books, including The Birth of Venom trade paperback, V for Vendetta, and a Frank Miller Batman book, Year One. I also ordered the remaining Sin City
volumes not in my possession. However, I fucked up and didn't pay attention to what I was doing and accidentally ordered two of volume five, FamilyValues
. Well, Amazon won't let me return it without paying out the ass for shipping, so I've decided to auction it off. I highly recommend this book and it makes a great gift for anyone, even if they don't like comics. If you saw the movie, you'll be amazed by how similar the books are.Check out the auction here. Predalien 2007-10-28 12:26:00 Even though the first Alien vs. Predator sucked out loud, I remain ecstatic for the sequel, Alien vs. Predator: Requiem. I know, lame title for what will more than likely be a lame movie. I just love the old Alien and Predator films so much. The filmmakers have made claims stating that they too were somewhat disappointed with the first AvP and aim to return to the roots of the original series and what made them so great, atmosphere and realistic effects, not lame CGI.Featured in the new film is the Predalien, which is naturally the result of an Alien using a Predator as a host. This of course raises the question why Aliens using humans as hosts simply resulted in Aliens, but that's just nitpicking for accuracy, and who cares about that anyways? If we expected everything to make sense, Jedi wouldn't use swords. Besides, the Predalien looks bad-fucking-ass.
Awesome t-shirt 2007-10-28 01:08:00 Threadless added a new shirt in last week's update that is simply phenomenal. As a young child, I had a Raffi tape that I would watch all the time, and one of my favorite songs (or at least the only one I remember) was "Down by the Bay". Well, Threadless has offered a shirt based on this classic nonsense song. Featured on this shirt are a whale with a polka dot tail and a bear combing his hair!
I wish Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was real 2007-10-25 00:59:00 I can honestly say that I wish the scientific breakthrough featured in Eternal
Sunshine of the Spotless
Mind was real. The scientific breakthrough I speak of is the ability for specially trained technicians to completely erase the memories of a specific person in your life, AKA targeted memory erasure. This is of course done when a relationship turns sour. The possibility of not knowing the pain of losing someone you love is quite appealing to any and all who have lost. It is done in such a way that you don't even know it ever happened. However, Eternal Sunshine also teaches us the grand lesson that it is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all, as Joel fights tooth and nail to cling to any memory of his beloved Clementine.I miss you.
Stephen Colbert announces presidential candidacy!!! 2007-10-17 17:01:00 Last night, StephenColbert
appeared on The Daily Show and announced he would be making a statement on whether or not he was considering running for president. Stephen chose to hold his announcement for a more prestigious show however, that aired about 15 minutes after Stephen dropped this first bombshell. Months upon months of buildup and speculation have created a fever pitch surrounding Stephen Colbert
's possible candidacy. And on last night's Colbert Report, Stephen finally announced he was running for president of the United States. So far, Stephen has officially only said he will be campaigning in South Carolina, which certainly must mean Clinton and Obama are breathing sighs of relief. Stephen is running as a democrat and as a republican, further blurring the lines between indecisive parties. Man of the Year anyone? And yes, however any of this turns out, certainly has to be better than that stinker of a movie.I eagerly await the South Carolina primary, assuming Stephen a
I lost 2007-10-16 22:20:00 I lost my week 6 matchup in fantasy and now stand at a pathetic 1-5 record. I think, if everything, and I mean everything, goes my way, and the other teams have just the right win-loss records, I could still make it in as a wild card if I win every one of my remaining games. This, however, is nearly impossible, just going by how my season has gone to date. This would be phenomenal though, the greatest underdog story in history if I come back from this beginning.
Fantasy is not my game 2007-10-14 22:39:00 It appears as if I'm going to lose my game this week in fantasy. This will place me at 1-5 in the standings. I don't really have any chance whatsoever of reaching the playoffs now, with 5 losses under my belt. I think if I win next week and every week from then on out and the other teams win and lose just right, I have the tiniest chance as a wild card contender. Otherwise, it appears as though I'm going to be playing spoiler and planning for next year. As of Sunday night's last game's ending, I am ahead 1 point with my opponent's best wide receiver left to play. Unless Plaxico Burress has the worst game of his career, I'm shit out of luck. And this was supposed to be the beginning of my resurgence. I picked up freshly starting Kurt Warner, only for him to end up getting hurt after losing a fumble, actually costing me points instead of adding to my team's total. Meanwhile, Drew Brees racked up 21 points in his new role on my bench.
Superman: Doomsday 2007-10-14 21:17:00 A few days ago I had the pleasure of watching Superman
: Doomsday
, a direct-to-DVD adaption of DC comic's classic Death of Superman storyline. This storyline, which when collected in trade paperback, became the biggest selling graphic novel of all-time. While the movie did steer pretty far away from its comic source, it was still an enjoyable film that I recommend to Superman and comics fans. For those who don't know, DC comics made worldwide headlines in the early 90s by killing off (temporarily obviously) their most popular character, Superman. The multi-issue story arc became one of DC Comics' most popular of all time. Basically, this big motherfucker named Doomsday, who's been bred to be the perfect soldier, is unleashed upon Earth. It appears nothing can stop him, until he comes into contact with Superman that is. Doomsday and Superman throwdown and destroy half of Metropolis in the process. Doomsday is just about the toughest SOB Superman had ever fought. The two fought
Meatwad Hat 2007-10-13 12:03:00 A year or two ago Adult Swim ran some promos that showed what might be the greatest hat I've ever seen. It was a Meatwad, from Aqua Teen Hunger Force, beanie. However, it wasn't just a hat with a picture of him on it, it was a hat that looked like you were wearing Meatwad on your head. I remember the second the promo flashed that wonderful hat, I made a mad dash for my computer to see if it was really for sale on Adult Swim's site. Sad to say, it wasn't online, and it appears the hat never really saw the light of day. There is one site I found which is selling the hat, and whether they just made replicas based off the image or stumbled upon product samples is irrelevant because it's an insane $95. That's a little bit out of my price range unfortunately. However, my mom is the world's greatest knitter and I have put in a request for a Meatwad hat of my own. When I have it I'll post a picture for comparison, and something tells me my mom's will be superior. Something t
Converse Dots 2007-10-11 10:53:00 I need a new pair of shoes. My plaid Converse
have done me well for the past two or so years but they are in the last stage of their life. I saw these months ago and didn't much care for them and wasn't too interested in new shoes anyway. Now, however, I would love for a pair of these beauties. The only problem is, they aren't being sold in men's sizes anymore so I can't get a pair that fits me. I am sad. If you know where I can get a pair of these puppies in men's size 10, please let me know.
Gauging 2007-10-11 00:56:00 Beginning in the middle of June I have been gauging my ears. I had wanted my ears pierced for years, maybe since I was 11 or 12. It was not to be however, as my father disapproved for one reason or another. I was never concerned enough to ask him why I wasn't allowed to get my ears pierced, I just knew I wasn't. That is, until I turned 18. Ahh 18, what a magical time of freedom. Shortly after my 18th birthday, I made an excursion to the mall and had my ears pierced at the Piercing Pagoda kiosk located therein. I had plain silver studs put in my fresh piercings.I was meticulous and timely when it came to maintaining the health of my newly pierced ears. As I wanted everything to heal nice and smoothly. Then came volleyball season and my coach's decision (a smart one I might add) to have all players remove all piercings. This was too much of a pain in the ass for me, to have to insert and remove them before and after each practice. So I did the only thing I could do. I took
1-4 2007-10-09 00:32:00 Well, I lost. My fantasy season is staring into the abyss. If I don't go on a winning streak of epic proportions starting this week, I'm pretty much planning for next year and trying to make the other owners in my league as miserable as I am. I place most of the blame for my downfall on Drew Brees. This was his last chance, and did he ever blow it. Welcome to the bench Drew, enjoy your stay there. This leaves me with a void at quarterback I hope to fill with newly christened starter for the Cardinals Kurt Warner (pictured). Warner has looked good whenever he has played this year and now with Matt Leinart likely out all year he's my guy, pending a waiver pickup.
Fantasy Football Folley 2007-10-06 00:25:00 I am in a fantasy football league with some of my friends (and my mom) and boy has it not been going my way. At the moment, I am standing at a still comebackable 1-3 record, a far cry from the dreams of a perfect season I had after finishing strong last year. I thought I drafted incredibly well, much better than last year when I was the champion of my league even. But the football gods were not kind to me, as injuries and players not following up on last year's success quickly took their toll on my team, the Jukebox Heroes. A large reason my season has gone the way it has is down to Drew Brees (pictured), the quarterback for the New Orleans' Saints, overall suckiness. Brees was amazing last year in his first year with the Saints, and a repeat of his success seemed obvious. This was not to be as Brees has a 7:1 interception to touchdown ratio over his three awful games. My first round selection was the second year running back from the Indianapolis Colts, Joseph Addai, and he h Read more:Football

Tales Of The Black Freighter 2007-10-04 16:46:00 To follow up on my post about Watchmen, I have discovered a site that hosts a recreation of one of the stories within the story featured in Watchmen. These sidestories tie in and relate to the goingson of the "real" world featured in the comic series. One of the more prominent and certainly harrowing of these is that of Tales
of the Black
Freighter. You see, in a world such as that of Watchmen, where superheroes are everyday, people would be much less interested in reading about fictional superheroes. That is why the authors chose to go with the idea that pirate comics would be popular, as pirates were not seen in everyday Watchmen universe life, it provided a similar escape to that of superheroes in our world. Throughout the series, we are treated to snippets of Tales of the Black Freighter, in particular pieces from the two part Marooned story. In this story, a man is shipwrecked and believes that his hometown is about to be attacked by the evil demon pirates aboard the Black Fre
Watchmen 2007-10-04 10:56:00 I recently made the decision to get into comic books. I have always been somewhat of a fan of the medium, but mostly through television and movies because I was not provided with many comics as a child. I always cherished the few books I was able to convince my mom to purchase for me though. Now, caught up in early adulthood, I once again make a return to comic books, but this time in the form of the trade paperback. Nowadays just about every series and every major story arc is being collected into thick volumes and sold for reasonable prices to people too late or lazy to collect the individual issues. After watching Frank Miller's 300 and Sin City be turned into tremendous films, I decided to get into comics.A quick browsing of the internet lets one build a quick list of must have comic books that are available as trade paperbacks. These include the aforementioned Frank Miller titles, as well as a number of story arcs from characters like Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, and the X-
Halo 3 2007-09-26 16:53:00 9/25 came, and with it Halo 3. It's finally here boys and girls. Was it worth the wait? My answer to that question is a resounding "yes!" Halo 3 was well worth the wait and I can't believe I'm not playing it right now actually but that's what college will do to you. I won't delve too deeply into details in the review because I don't want to spoil anything for anyone who has yet to experience H3.Just about everything is improved from the first two games in the Halo series, and that's saying something. Halo 1 and 2 are universally (outside of haters) acclaimed as two of the greatest games of all time, and Halo 3 finishes the trilogy out strong.Game play is tight and the AI seems more intelligent and tactical than before. The new guns are awesome and add to the game in the same way the new guns added to Halo 2. Using the gravity hammer for the first time is like when we finally got to use the energy sword - awesome. Multiplayer is enthralling. With a good group of friend
Idiocracy 2007-09-21 16:12:00 I have previously stated that Dünyayı Kurtaran Adam is the worst movie ever and despite a peculiar comment in what appears to be Greek from my translating adventure, I stand by this. I had been told by close friends that Turkish Star Wars was not the worst movie ever made, but that Idiocracy was.Having waited patiently for my local Video King to get Idiocracy back in stock, I finally decided to just get it with my Netflix free trial. My working theory was that the last person to rent Idiocracy had killed themselves, making it impossible to return the movie to Video King.Having sat down and watched Idiocracy, I wonder how I ever though Mike Judge, the man behind Beavis & Butthead, King of the Hill, and Office Space, could ever produce the worst movie ever made. My friends opinions quickly lost any relevance to my view of this futuristic comedy. I came to my senses and realized a film by Mike Judge with a near 70% score on Rotten Tomatoes surely can't be all that bad.And it is
Gears of War 2007-09-21 00:00:00 I received an Xbox 360 for my birthday this year and along with it, Madden 08. The new weapons system differentiated it from 07 in a way 07 wasn't differentiated from 06 but it was still mostly last year's game with new rosters. The week after I got it, I went out and purchased Gears
of War. I'm still pissed about how the game industry marked games up a hefty $10 with the leap to this generation of platforms but they don't care as long as I and a record number of gamers are willing to shell out the extra dough. It's been several weeks now, and while I admit to not liking GoW at all at first, I am now smitten with the game.Visually, Gears is a landmark achievement. The landscapes are stunning, weather effects realistic, and character models incredibly well-developed and detailed. Perhaps the greatest (or at least most enjoyable) graphic effect is when you use the chainsaw bayonet attached to one of the game's guns on an enemy. The screen becomes bloody and body parts fly ev
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind 2007-09-19 16:25:00 I've previously mentioned that I consider The Godfather to be the best movie of all time. However, that by no means makes it my favorite movie. That title currently belongs to a much under appreciated film called Eternal
Sunshine of the Spotless
Mind. Directed by the same guy who brought us another trippy less well known but one of my favorite films in The Science of Sleep, Michael Gondry, Eternal Sunshine
is filled with the same imagination and whimsy that many directors would kill for. Gondry is lucky enough to be able to work with an all-star cast including one of the late 20th/early 21st century's greatest comedians Jim Carrey, who knocks it out of the park in this sci-fi dramedy. The cast also includes Kate Winslet as Carrey's love interest, Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo, Elijah Wood, and the always hilarious David Cross. The movie starts off with Carrey's character Joel waking up and going through the motions of another crummy ho-hum day. Something inside him decides to be
Music reogranization 2007-09-19 12:38:00 I am in the process of reorganizing my massive collection of mp3s all ripped from CDs I owned or downloaded from band's websites or other legal sources naturally. There are over 7000 files I am migrating to my external hard drive, which was previously used solely for storage of video files. This arduous task is also coupled with the anal extreme of re-tagging every file, checking for accuracy in artist name, album title, track number, genre (which can become incredibly tedious and tiresome), and a host of other specifics that are both unnecessary I and pointless at the same time. And yet this consumes me... Read more:Music
Threadless shirts I wish would be reprinted 2007-09-18 10:25:00 Threadless is one of my favorite websites, and definitely my favorite apparel related one. It isn't quite the largest business, (although it has grown by leaps and bounds in the past year or two) which means that their supply of shirts is often sadly lacking. This is offset by the amazing amount of new shirts being added each week, along with a few reprints decided by user request. I like to wait to until they have a sale, when shirts are marked down from $15 each to only $10, which saves a lot of money. This presents a problem in that shirts I like often sell out before I place my order. Threadless offers a system whereby shirts with the most requests are reprinted. The following are some of the shirts I would like to be reprinted the most, but sadly have not yet been reprinted. Adorable Disaster Bad AppleTechnology Ruins Nature
Dünyayı Kurtaran Adam 2007-09-17 19:13:00 I have a scale in place used to grade movies. Until today, all movies fell somewhere in between the worst movie I'd ever seen, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and the best movie I've ever seen, The Godfather. However, after viewing Dünyayı Kurtaran Adam, my scale has to be updated, and it's not on the best side. This movie is unquestionably the worst piece of film ever made. Following in a longstanding Turkish (Turkeywood?) tradition of remaking American movies with Turkish actors. This particular movie even went a step further to include footage from Star Wars movies and music from Raiders of the Lost Ark! The remaking process includes replacing any and all high end special effects with everyday twenty minute Home Depot supplied projects. This includes but is not limited to, lame cardboard swords and space helmets bearing a striking resemblance to motorcycle helmets with headphones on the sides. The title translates roughly to The Man Who Saves the World, and let me tell you, t
Blog 2007-09-13 10:24:00 I used to have a blog. That was a long time ago. Maybe I will have a blog again. Well, I guess I technically have one now and I never didn't have one thanks to my horrible, horrible myspace.

Patriots 2007-10-29 14:19:00 This past Sunday the New England Patriots
continued their unparalleled streak of dominating performances. The NFL is a league that is supposedly built upon the idea of parity, that on any given Sunday, any team can beat any other team. However, the 2007 New England Patriots certainly seem to be disproving this theory. The Redskins were supposed to present the first real challenge for the Patriots this year. Despite some struggles on the offensive side of the ball, the Redskins defense came into the Patriots game a top-ten defense. You wouldn't have thought that by watching the game on Sunday the way the Redskins played, or more precisely, just how phenomenally dominant the Patriots are on both sides of the ball. I'm not going to go too in depth on this, that's been covered ad nauseum all over the interwebs and televisions. The Patriots are on a record breaking pace (and have already broken several records), as are several individual players. And none of these players has been mo
Deep Fried Oreos 2007-11-11 20:40:00 Has anyone out there not had the oral experience of deep fried Oreos? If you haven't sampled one of these heart clogging delicacies you simply must try them. I got my first taste of these beauties at the New York State Fair a few years ago (the same day I saw ZZ Top ) along with a deep fried snickers and a more traditional funnel cake. I regrettably chose to forgo a serving of deep fried Coca Cola as it sounded gross. Looking back, however, I realize it's something I surely should have tried. I don't like normal Oreo cookies at all, I find them entirely unappetizing. However, something amazing happens when you coat them in a tasty batter and soak them in boiling oil for a bit. Gone is the regular, nasty dry Oreo, and in its place is a molten piece of artery hardening deliciousness. Read more:Fried
Fantasy Football Resurgence 2007-11-12 15:20:00 If everything goes as I think it will tonight, I will end up as the fifth ranked team in the Susquehanna Football
League. While this may not seem like a big deal to some of you (or most of you,) it's a really big deal to me. It's kind of sad, actually it's really sad, but fantasy football is one of the biggest things in my life. Where did I go wrong?Anyways, now that I am ranked 5-5, I enter into a tie with other teams with only 4 teams having better records than 5-5, and one of them by only 1/2 of a game. I beat all of the other 5-5 teams except two, so I end up ranked ahead of them thanks to that tiebreaker. That places me in a decent enough sixth place in the SFL, just high enough to make it into the playoffs in the bottom. However, I am on a complete tear the past 4 weeks after a disappointed start to the season, dominating my last four games, with no end in sight.Four weeks remain before the start of the fantasy playoffs and if my winning streak continues I even have the Read more:Fantasy Football
Xavier: Renegade Angel 2007-11-16 15:42:00 I doubt anyone has seen the latest show on Adult Swim, Xavier: Renegade
Angel, and I hope for everyone's sake no one else ever happens to see it. Adult Swim usually has quality shows like Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sealab 2021, Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law, Home Movies, Metalocalypse, The Boondocks, Moral Orel, Frisky Dingo, Lucy the Daughter of the Devil, Robot Chicken and Saul of the Molemen. However, all is not roses on Adult Swim, as a unfortunate amount of shit inevitably seeps through the programming schedule. This would include the crude 12 oz. Mouse, and of course, Family Guy.This new show has every right to be awesome though. Xavier is made by the guys who made Wonder Showzen, which was amazing when it aired on MTV2. Something went wrong though, as Xavier is for lack of a better term, complete shit. The show is slow as all get out, pacing through it's all too generous 11 minutes like a turtle in molasses. After you sit through a lot of nothing happening you'd expect
Ryan saw titties on Facebook 2007-11-22 20:23:00 Earlier tonight my friend Ryan was witness to a miraculous thing. He saw titties on Facebook
. The titties came in the form of a little ad on the left side of the page. Unfortunately, he didn't get a screen grab of this incident but I assure you it's true. I refreshed Facebook at least 50 times after that looking for the titties but I was never able to find them.
