Independent Artists and Bands Get on iTunes

It is amazing how many people do not know about how to get on iTunes . There are many independent artists and bands that are unknown and do not sell their music on iTunes. Well, here is some great news for you. I know at least two websites that will help you distribute your digital cds to iTunes. It is affordable and it is reasonable. We know that you have already focused on promoting your music. That is what we do here at the New Artist Review. However, you want to be able to sell your music too. Once you get your fans together, it is time to cash in those chips. Here are two websites I know: Tunecore and CDBaby. One is a little different than the other. But they do the same thing. They distribute your mp3s to online music stores. It takes about 45 days to get listed. But once you are listed, it is a done deal. Because of internet technology advancing, it is getting much easier to find music. You will find mp3s. Mp3s are taking over the music industry. They are basically a wave file compressed down into a smaller file. Yet if converted to a higher bit rate, such as, 320 kbps, you will get a bigger file but better quality in mp3 playback. Mp3 players are popular. Even cellphones, ipods, and other gadgets are integrating mp3 audio. You can buy almost any gadget that will have an mp3 player inside. Uplink USB cables sold separately. Have the convenience of transferring digital music from one gadget to another. With this going on, cds may become obsolete. Who knows, maybe they will create downloading stations at Wal-mart where people can buy mp3s and upload then into their mp3 players. The future is digital. I could not believe the amount of friends I was seeing. We can say that some people have got thousands of friends. This strategy is a good way to get traffic to your MySpace Page. It is not easy to make friends. It is time consuming. But it is also really easy. Just click on “Add to Friends ” on whoever you are interested in joining. However, let me give you some advice. Research your friend and choose wisely. See if you have things in common. Look at the band influences to see if you like the same music. Do not let them try to change your music, your image, your mission, and your dreams. Remember, managers work for you. It is good to listen to their criticism. However, do not let it cramp your style. Here is a good question. How much money do you spend on promoting your music? Hundreds or Thousands? And who are you using to promote your music? Are music websites effective? Do you create merchandise? Do you sell your cds through amazon.com? The truth is it takes money to get noticed. Unfortunately, no one cares. For example, you spend fifty bucks a month buying advertisement for your music website. How many people go your website? How long do they stay? And are they leaving quickly. The answers are simple. People want everything for free. They don’t want to spend money on your music unless you are commercialized. However, there are those few that do make money. But very little. Most independent artists live normal lives and can’t afford to pay the kind of money they need to get noticed. So, my advice is to research ways to promote your music for free. This way, you are doing what you enjoy, but you don’t regret the loss of expectation.

Being a performer is less profitable than being a songwriter. What good does it do, to be famous if you don’t get paid well? There are many digital distribution websites. Only a few actually help you in music promotion. And if they do help, it is not free. It is just like in real life. If you stock the shelves full of cds of an unknown artist, you will not make any sales. A customers just walks on by without a glimpse and keeps on shopping. Well, the same applies to digital sales. Unless, a person just happens to come across a song you wrote, they may listen to only 10 seconds of that track. His sound is soulful, genuine, and honest. His lyrics are straight from his heart and puts the listener right in the middle of the story his song is trying to tell. His melodies are flawless and simple, not over the top or laden with too many mixers. I could sit and listen to John Griffin all day. I’ve seen him perform and he puts the same qualities into his performance that he puts into writing his music. I am truly surprised that he hasn’t been signed or that no major artist has picked up on his music. They are missing out on many possibilities for a hit.
