Fake Quote:1.1
2007-11-05 13:52:00
Okay its version 1.1 time. I have been quite busy writing about Social Networking and Facebook and Opensocial and all at that GOOG has to offer. Lets get creative and try writing a better fake quote than the previous one.Gates: I have 10 billion dollars in my pocket right now. 10 billion dollars, coz I know the password of Steve's MSN account where he keeps his account details. And well, I'm gonna use his iPhone to access it. That's what in my pocket!Jobs:How the hell does he know my password? It's the most uncommon thing I could think of. It's something that doesn't exist-"Zunebringsme$$$"

Social Networking vs. Networking Socially
2007-11-05 09:34:00
I read an article by my friend Jason Walls at Social Media Explorer titled Why Networking Socially Beats Social Networking Every Time. A similar opinion has been expressed in Eminem style. This one is called Shannon Matesky ( donno which talent hunt this was, would love to know it). Really cool . Check it out.Good playing with the rhymes. P.S. This one is a direct hit to Myspace in particular.

Flock 1.0 for Facebook
2007-11-05 03:53:00
I never knew about this almost Mozilla Browser. It eats up resources as much as my Firefox, and well you know what, it serves me the best for my Social Networking,RSS feeds and Blogging needs.L&G's introducing Flock 1.0. I know it has been around for quite a while now. My ignorance, apologies. The best feature according to me (given the facebook flocker I am), is the facebook people tab. Have a look at the screenshot below. Ain't it helpful enough? There is a very arranged RSS Reader, but I had problems in importing my bookmarks html which I exported from Firefox.Haven't sorted it out. I tried importing directly from Firefox, but somehow some folders got skipped. Hmm! Any solutions to this one. Meanwhile enjoy the Facebook stuff. Have been drooling over it for the whole day .

Back to Facebook
2007-11-04 23:41:00
I had promised not to get back to this topic for a week at least. I couldn't do it. Primarily for this article by Jack Schofield on the Guardian It points out how Google's entire Opensocial is more hype than substance. It puts a direct question on the entire openness. What's so open about it? Schofield puts it this way.First, as far as I can see, it's just a widget format, ie Google Gadgets. I'm sure there is value to having a common Google-sponsored widget format for mini-applications, because it reduces the amount of work needed to put Vampires or whatever on different social networking sites. But really, who cares?Second, I can't see what's open about it. Sure anybody can write apps for it, but anybody can write apps for Facebook , or, indeed, Windows. There's more to come, but at the moment, it looks just as proprietary as the Facebook system it more-or-less copies. The main difference being that Google appears to own and control the OpenSocial container/API in which the widg

Orkut vs Facebook vs MySpace
2007-11-04 22:42:00
Yeah! Okay, so what if MySpace has joined the Opensocial league. It is still a competitor which uses more Google ads than any frigging thing on the web 2.0 universe. So here I have the Alexa comparison of the three sites for the last three months.Another thing, I tried to add the javascript widget code on the Alexa page.It doesn't work on Blogger.Clearly,Myspace is the winner, followed by facebook and then Orkut . Hail Brazil!.Right now, because Orkut has only added a very lame app so far, Opensocial just seems more hype than substance. But it is still early days to say.And you know what? I am through with these posts on Social Networking. I think I should get back to the Apple groove.LOL.

Rock you post
2007-11-04 02:42:00
Okay, so the API is out. And we all have been drooling over what next in ORKUT or the other sites? Orkut has just added one lame app called the Ask Friends, yeah much like the one in Facebook.Only it appears on your squeezed sidebar. No customization to your Orkut template so far. I even tried registering to Bebo just for the sake of it. And I found this new app called Rock You.com which lets me create a slide show of the movies I like....as in the posters. I did create the slideshow widget and the code was ready to be pasted, and bam. There is an option to include it in Orkut.Wow. So, how do I do this. F#$K. It says, you gotta paste it in the scrapbook. How lame!!!! Not in the profile but in the scrapbook like the other html stuff we have been doing on MySpace and recently in the scrapbook. I tried doing it just for F's sake, and you know what I found out.The code was more than 1024 characters so Orkut wouldn't let me paste it. Oh Sweet mother of Lord!! So here I am back to square on

Yet another hit by Orkut
2007-11-03 23:16:00
We all know the dark side of social networking. We have even seen many live examples of it. Amidst all the buzz about Google's Opensocial and the Facebook deal, this story takes place at Pune on Nov 3,2007. Front page on TIMES OF INDIA. The first report came here. A Software Engineer from Bangalore,Lakshmana Kailash K was arrested by Pune police on Aug 31st,because he allegedly uploaded a blasphemous matter about Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji on the social networking site Orkut . This had caused a huge uproar in the state and even had taken matters to a level of riots. (India is getting tech savvy). The twists to the tale. It seems the police got the wrong man. The police took over 10 months to trace down the alleged source.Google who owns orkut, gave them the IP address,, and the further details by Airtel, the ISP. And after spending 50 days at the Pune Yerwada jail, Lakshmana was released, because Airtel provided the wrong IP. This is what Airtel had to say:We are sorry and

Yahoo-Where are You?
2007-11-02 15:47:00
Surf through each of the posts that I have posted on this blog so far. 73 total posts, excluding this one and do you know what connects them all, besides Techkeyla? 0% Yahoo . Yep. Yahoo has been quiet for a long long while. And it is high time to see Yahoo spring back in action. I mean c'mon who are we kidding? Let's list the online arenas:Search:There's a verb for it -GoogleIM: AOL,MSN Live,Gtalk and Skype,...can't remember what I'm missing here. Oh yeah Yahoo too.Just because we have been using our messengers for so long.Social Networking: Not a player, yeah ok delicious! That's social bookmarking. (Dumb me)Photo sharing: Yahoo rules here with Flickr. It is in fact the only place which reminds me of the Yahoo logo, well, during signing in.Competitors include Picasa, imageshack, photobucket et al.So is Yahoo joining Opensocial? I should sleep now.Pics Courtesy:generationexe

Opensocial is Live
2007-11-02 03:27:00
The last few days have been a long wait for me. Since Mr. Arrington (techcrunch) reported about the "Maka Maka" project by Google and the name Opensocial came up surging a high on the most keywords search list on Technorati, I have been waiting for the URL of the Opensocial API to go Live. And as promised, Thursday is over. And here we are. Opensocial is here .For the details of the project and more, go to the official blog: http://opensocialapis.blogspot.com written by authors:Amar Gandhi and Peter Chane. The first post is a wonderful read, and it declares that the Orkut Sandbox is open officially. No surprise, that the Opensocial page asks you to write "your first social gadget for Orkut". Myspace,hi5, Salesforce, Ning will soon be open for the developers.Woohooo is what I say!!!The tag goes:The web is better when it's social. Sweet. But did we see any changes in Orkut yet? Nope , not in India. But yeah, we do expect Facebook only apps like iLike and may be the Vampire hugs, and Werew

Google Combat. K.O. Facebook?
2007-11-01 23:55:00
Google was certainly pissed after the 240 million $ deal of the Facebook pie which went to Microsoft.Opensocial is the name which has been making all the news all over for the last couple of days. And it is ready, almost, to hit in the face of Facebook. Opensocial is an API, or rather a set of 3 APIs which together bring the entire concept of social networking to another level. Michael Arrington (techcrunch.com) puts it this way:OpenSocial is a set of three common APIs, defined by Google with input from partners, that allow developers to access core functions and information at social networks:* Profile Information (user data)* Friends Information (social graph)* Activities (things that happen, News Feed type stuff)See this post on Techcrunch for all the details. Now the big news is , who are the players joining in? The Google Opensocial umbrella has already raked in Salesforce, LinkedIn, Ning, Hi5, Plaxo, Friendster, Viadeo and Oracle besides its own social networking Giant -Orkut. Add

My new Gmail 2.0
2007-10-31 22:53:00
It's here. I noticed it last night itself. But I was too tired to post about it. Another thing, it doesn't work in IE 6(Haven't tried out IE7). It works on my Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.6.Okay now for the proof of the new Gmail 2.0.Here's how it is before:And after:The url for the new Gmail is http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2 and its ui=1 for the older one. It does load faster than the older version and just wait and watch as I show you more before and after shots. But before that, just another flaunt shot of my IMAP enabled.Okay back to the Before shot:This time its the Contact page, coz that is the only other difference I've been able to figure out yet. Before:After:Another feature:(if you can call it that)The yellow bannered text which appears when you complete a task, like send a mail, or delete spam, or when the mail has gone corrupt etc., is now a shade lighter..or is two shades lighter. Well, you have to see it for yourself. I don't really want to test that.Did you like the new

What's up Google?
2007-10-31 13:18:00
I have had a lot of posts here talking about the Tech giants Apple,Microsoft and the new hottie Facebook. But well, nobody can deny the fact that we just can't do without Google . Whether it be search, or mail, or News, or Gadgets, or Code, or for this Blog. Google is the King , the Emperor and the Czar of all. But of late, Google has been quite silent, or has it? Ok, I do agree the IMAP support from Gmail did create a buzz, but compare that to the iPhone Jailbreak or the 240 million dollar Deal. So how is Google actually doing these days? Are Larry and Sergey upto something bigger, greater and NEW?Of course they are!!! Take this. Hold on, bring your glass of wine, and Cheers first. Google is in talking terms with Verizon on letting them use their yet-to-be released Operating Systems on cellular phones. That is a big shocker for Verizon rival AT&T. How this goes down, well ,I'll be definitely keeping an eye on it.Next in line, coming this Friday is : Opensocial(Link to be live on T

How to Save Pics when Saving,Right-Click is Disabled?
2007-10-31 04:26:00
Ok this is one of those extremely simple hacks which I discovered by myself in Firefox. Am yet to figure out the IE option, primarily because I hardly use it. Opera got uninstalled and Safari, well you read it in my previous blog. Anyway, the hack is here9if you can call it that). So if you had a flickr page with no option of saving the picture, what you can do is, go to Tools(by pressing Alt T, go to Page Info. Go to Media. What you see now is a list of the various media available on that very page. Select the pic url you were looking for and press Save as and voila.Hail Firefox!!!

100th Post:5 Reasons to Visit
2007-11-13 05:36:00
Yippeeeee!!!!! I have done it. In just 40 days, I have posted a hundred posts on Techkeyla, including this one,all by myself. Well, as the footer reads, all articles on this blog aren't necessarily source materials and you know, not the first one to break out the breaking news in the world of technology(c'mon where do I stand in that race, let's be real!).But yeah, what the heck! Techkeyla wasn't meant to be that in the first place. Techkeyla is my take on the world of Technology and everything that has to do with it. Some might accuse me of being too self-centered and stuff like that. But hey! it's my blog first. And so what comes second is Social Networking. Agreed it's a personal blog, but it shouldn't remain a personal dish which only I can relish. It is a blog, and everyone can visit, and read(and talk about hopefully). And here, on my 100th post, I give you five reasons why you should frequent Techkeyla all the more!1:I read more than you do: Yep, I might sound a bit like a

Don't Click Just Roll
2007-11-13 04:59:00
Imagine a world where there are no buttons,no links and all you need is to just roll over your mouse to navigate. You must be saying, c'mon have you gone crazy? Well, I'd have said the same until I found this page(its flash based so I do expect you have the plugin installed). The URL is http://dontclick.it. It claims to be an institute of interactive research. The catch here is that the navigation is done in a different way than the traditional clicking on links or buttons. The home page reads: So please prepare yourself mentally for the new situation and click here for the last time before entering the project. And it is actually fun inside. The navigation is as smooth as I donno-core animation (ala Leopard). Its a new experience. So, can we do away with the mouse buttons already??? I ask too many questions.

Orkut User Happiness Survey
2007-11-12 08:38:00
The Pressure surely is on. We all know what Facebook's fanbase meant for the already not-so-popular or regionally popular social network from Google, Orkut . The userbase of Orkut has been primarily Brazil,India and Pakistan. And with users open to an arguably better option, Orkut is trying hard to stay in the game. Here is one of their attempts. The Orkut User Happiness Survey. The Survey Link is:https://survey.google.com/wix/p1307220.aspxThe survey page shows something like this. Click on it to enlarge.Happy Radio Buttons , only if you are that interested. For me, I just skipped it. I'd rather bite some chumps! The best question of the lot is:Please select up to 3 features you like best about orkut. I didn't even know that Orkut had so many features. I really need to cross-check. LOL

EA Sports Cricket 2007 has screwed up names
2007-11-11 07:59:00
I am not much of a cricket fan, except for the occasional India-Pak matches. But even I got a bit upset with EA Sports ' Cricket 2007 which has got all the names, not one, not two, but all of them screwed up. I mean, how long does it take to get it cross checked. Or was it done on purpose, coz they didn't get the permission from BCCI? Whatever the reason may be, this is hilarious at first, and a bit of a setback later.I'd like to emphasize that it is the 2007 release. The screenshot is below.Dada is named S Gungly and Zaheer has a last name Kalm. Spread the word!P.S.Didn't check the names of the players of the other teams

Is a lot, too much for Facebook?
2007-11-11 07:40:00
Now don't start laughing. I am showing you my list of apps on Facebook . And this is probably why it takes a lot of time to load, given the many apps that are to be loaded. I keep lot em hidden, and many with their shutters closed. And still managed to get these many landed over my Profile page. So, is it getting all the more cluttered like MySpace.Well, I do know ,it is pretty much personal choice to keep the apps or not. But with the Ads launching, will Facebook lose its charm of exclusivity, arrangement and cleanliness(sure I don't have that on my page. I have a regualr wall, a Superwall and a fun-wall. How many do I need seriously?). And all those sponsors are gonna extensively utilise all my facebook info to send targeted ads on my profile. Hmm, its high time for account info deletion probably.

Who'd buy a Zune?
2007-11-11 07:27:00
I know this might be sounding like a straight hit to the fanboys of Zune . But yeah, why not sit down and just decide upon why would anyone go for a Zune when umm...iPod is there? The Zune is now available in 4GB,8GB and 80 GB similar to the previous generation of iPod. And with the new generation of iPods having taken the market by storm and with the new additions to the family -iPod Touch and the revamping of the already existing Nano and iPod Classic, the reason for opting a Zune over all these options seems pretty questionable. So, if you are not one of the hardcore MS fanboys or Zune fanboys, why'd one opt for a Zune? I have been through extreme soul-searching and have come up with a list of 5 such reasons. Hope you agree with them. But if you don't , you are free to counter them, or just express your views on this.So here goes the list.1.not iTunes only: iPod and all things Apple are iTunes only. This has many issues addressed already in zillions of forums across the Net. Won't

Facebook to Join Opensocial?
2007-11-10 06:17:00
Okay, we all know that Opensocial didn't actually take all of us by storm. But yeah! its from Google. So, everyone is taking notice. Would it really be the same if say Yahoo, or Microsoft or AOL was making the same kind of announcements? Yep, I have already discussed this on my previous blog. Here, I tell you this story by Josh from Business2.com ( a CNN Money affiliate). Josh here describes why Facebook should or shouldn't join the "Everybody-but-Facebook Alliance". The joining to the Opensocial API could end up forcing Facebook giving up its own FBML and adopting a common platform like Javascript or HTML.Read the entire stuff here.

Firmware vs. Jailbreak
2007-11-10 05:59:00
The race is still on between the exa-Apple crackers and the Cupertino coders. And we ,as witnesses to the race of encryption-decryption and permission denied and access granted messages, have almost become tired of the whole thing. Last week, after the new firmware 1.1.2 launch, all the jailbreak-ed iPhones who upgraded to it, got bricked. That's so sick! And now, even when the new iTunes isn't tuned for the new firmware, crackers have already made the jailbreak work for the iPod Touch and the jailbreak for the iPhone is in the pipeline and is believed to be out soon. When does this race end? At this pace, all we can expect is a 1.1.5 launch within the next 5 months and well another month at max for the jailbreak to follow. Or will the France launch of the iPhone stop it all?Who's to blame? Jobs, AT&T , or ..I donno.UPDATE######## tuaw.com is featuring a story on the testing of the Jailbreak for the iPhone 1.1.2 firmware. Fingers crossed!!!
