Leech Flickr
2007-10-28 13:07:00
We all use Flickr (at least I do). I must admit I am a Flickr addict. I keep browsing this huge database of immensely spectacular images(well, mostly). And it is the one stop shop for the pics of my blogs. I have never actually moved on beyond flickr. I know Picasa exists, and so do photobucket and imageshack. But c'mon who are we kidding.Flickr rocks. If you are complaining about the 10 or 20 photo display limit on a single page, check this out. This is a website called www.flickrleech.net. It can display a full 200 image thumbnail previews of your image search on a single page. The picture above is a first page search result for iMac.Enjoy!!

Google vs.Google
2007-10-28 12:50:00
Yes. Something I found out on a boring Sunday afternoon. I don't know if it is worth sharing or you know, make you read through this. I'll just come straight to the point. I typed in google.com, and what does it show me-The Google India page,ie-www.google.co.in, for obvious reasons , me being in India and my IP address indicates that. Now what happens when I type www.google.co.uk-I get the Google UK page. See any difference.Yes. There is no maps tab in the Indian Google Page. Hmm. Why????There's a red mark near Maps which says its new and its not yet old enough to be used in India.LOL.There's no Products tab either. And no links for Business Solutions too. I guess, all businesses are already solved here in India. Anyone has any explanation to this?

Oskope is really cool. Its got 4 search options -Youtube,Flickr,ebay and amazon. And the results show up as polaroids scattered on your table. It sounds cooler than you think when you get to see the results. e.g. I tried searching Lee Evans videos on Youtube via Oskope ie, and this is what I got.You move your mouse over one of the images, and the details window flashes up. You click once, and the video starts playing. Works almost similarly with the other 3 site search options.Love it.

Why I love Facebook
2007-10-28 00:40:00
Okay,I must admit that I made quite a late entry to the world of Facebook . That is because I just didn't feel the need of joining yet another social networking website. I have an orkut ID, which has almost all my pals added in and almost all my interests related communities covered. I have been offered with a lot of invitations from similar Social networking websites hi5,gazzag, and the Indian avatars, yaari and whatever and whatnots. And well, facebook seemed to me just yet another kid from the block. How wrong was I?I love FACEBOOK (referred from now on as FB)and I cannot live without it. Orkut is just filled with too many spammers and online sluts inviting for a friendly whatever. And Google seems to be not paying attention. FB 's biggest advantage is the ability of adding multiple applications to your page developed by non-facebook developers, just for facebook. So be it the Flixster,iLike Music App, Superwall, the Vampire Chumps, I love em all. And well, u'll find them all on my

Safari is a rough ride
2007-10-27 23:56:00
I have been using Mozilla Firefox and Opera for quite sometime now. IE 6 has been also on my usage on the list, but it is limited to only a few websites for work. I am very satisfied with the whole browsing experience of Mozilla and the whole universe of addons it has opened for me and billions of browsers worldwide. Opera is fun too. But the Cupertino bug hit me real hard last June since the iPhone launch, and out of curiosity,I installed the Safari . The browsing experience is meh!. I mean, its okay, not as fast s Mr.Jobs demonstrated it at WWDC. I mean for a 256 kbps line, I really can't feel the difference between Firefox,Opera and Safari,or for that matter IE 6(I don't use IE 7 for ethical reasons, lol). The fonts are a pleasure to feast upon, with smudgy edges. I don't know what font it is, but its a real pleasure for the eyes. But that's pretty much it.The Safari has a big big problem with most of the pages. And this is what happens when I try to open one of the most popular we

Orkut Beta!
2007-10-27 07:07:00
Yeah. I know. I am surprised as well. They already changed the look to a brighter blue, right when I had sunk in the soothing blue template of the old-orkut. And now,Orkut BETA is here.Or is it?I don't have the screenshots ,all I have is a screenshot of me Orkut profile which has an Orkut BETA Tag. What is Orkut upto?Look at the top left corner. That thing shimmering in silver reads BETA. Did they try to conceal that?

Hasta La Vista
2007-10-27 04:32:00
Yeah,I know I am pretty much under Steve Jobs' marketing hypnosis. And I have not been able to get over the Mac vs.PC ads as of yet. I mean that's a brilliant brilliant ad campaign.Even better than Balbir Pasha, Center Shock and "got Milk?" combined and multiplied thrice. This one is a new one for the Leopard Launch. I thought you'd love it.And I know you will.Pics Courtesy: florean

7 HDD for your Mac
2007-10-27 03:53:00
I went flickr browsing and I found this. Pretty amazing.7 hard drives connected to one Mac Book.Have a surprising look. The question here is , what can 7 hard drives do which a single 500 GB external HDD can't? I'm still on my soul-searching mode.

Apple Haters
2007-10-27 01:27:00
Yeah. I mean these guys exist. I am a member of an orkut community called Apple . The community is most of it irrelevant filled with posts filled with referral to petty affiliate sites, download for free headliners, and online sluts asking for whatever. But yeah, the one thread which has the maximum no. of replies and the longest discussion probably is the one titled:Apple suks with a K. There is this certain guy called Jose Luis Miranda from Miami supposedly, who has put up some really straight-forward hits on Cupertino head-honcho Mr.Jobs.I cannot put up all of them, but just read some of the 'interesting' ones.Apple is the computer for loosers, or for people that want to sleep with Steve Jobsthere is a reason why most people in the world use pc, thats because its better, if mac was better more people would use it, but to find somebody that uses a mac is the hardest thing in the world, get real people, when mac is remotely interesting you can say anything, and by the way, vista is o

Yet another hit by Orkut
2007-11-03 23:16:00
We all know the dark side of social networking. We have even seen many live examples of it. Amidst all the buzz about Google's Opensocial and the Facebook deal, this story takes place at Pune on Nov 3,2007. Front page on TIMES OF INDIA. The first report came here. A Software Engineer from Bangalore,Lakshmana Kailash K was arrested by Pune police on Aug 31st,because he allegedly uploaded a blasphemous matter about Maratha warrior king Chhatrapati Shivaji on the social networking site Orkut . This had caused a huge uproar in the state and even had taken matters to a level of riots. (India is getting tech savvy). The twists to the tale. It seems the police got the wrong man. The police took over 10 months to trace down the alleged source.Google who owns orkut, gave them the IP address,, and the further details by Airtel, the ISP. And after spending 50 days at the Pune Yerwada jail, Lakshmana was released, because Airtel provided the wrong IP. This is what Airtel had to say:We are sorry and

Yahoo-Where are You?
2007-11-02 15:47:00
Surf through each of the posts that I have posted on this blog so far. 73 total posts, excluding this one and do you know what connects them all, besides Techkeyla? 0% Yahoo . Yep. Yahoo has been quiet for a long long while. And it is high time to see Yahoo spring back in action. I mean c'mon who are we kidding? Let's list the online arenas:Search:There's a verb for it -GoogleIM: AOL,MSN Live,Gtalk and Skype,...can't remember what I'm missing here. Oh yeah Yahoo too.Just because we have been using our messengers for so long.Social Networking: Not a player, yeah ok delicious! That's social bookmarking. (Dumb me)Photo sharing: Yahoo rules here with Flickr. It is in fact the only place which reminds me of the Yahoo logo, well, during signing in.Competitors include Picasa, imageshack, photobucket et al.So is Yahoo joining Opensocial? I should sleep now.Pics Courtesy:generationexe

Opensocial is Live
2007-11-02 03:27:00
The last few days have been a long wait for me. Since Mr. Arrington (techcrunch) reported about the "Maka Maka" project by Google and the name Opensocial came up surging a high on the most keywords search list on Technorati, I have been waiting for the URL of the Opensocial API to go Live. And as promised, Thursday is over. And here we are. Opensocial is here .For the details of the project and more, go to the official blog: http://opensocialapis.blogspot.com written by authors:Amar Gandhi and Peter Chane. The first post is a wonderful read, and it declares that the Orkut Sandbox is open officially. No surprise, that the Opensocial page asks you to write "your first social gadget for Orkut". Myspace,hi5, Salesforce, Ning will soon be open for the developers.Woohooo is what I say!!!The tag goes:The web is better when it's social. Sweet. But did we see any changes in Orkut yet? Nope , not in India. But yeah, we do expect Facebook only apps like iLike and may be the Vampire hugs, and Werew

Google Combat. K.O. Facebook?
2007-11-01 23:55:00
Google was certainly pissed after the 240 million $ deal of the Facebook pie which went to Microsoft.Opensocial is the name which has been making all the news all over for the last couple of days. And it is ready, almost, to hit in the face of Facebook. Opensocial is an API, or rather a set of 3 APIs which together bring the entire concept of social networking to another level. Michael Arrington (techcrunch.com) puts it this way:OpenSocial is a set of three common APIs, defined by Google with input from partners, that allow developers to access core functions and information at social networks:* Profile Information (user data)* Friends Information (social graph)* Activities (things that happen, News Feed type stuff)See this post on Techcrunch for all the details. Now the big news is , who are the players joining in? The Google Opensocial umbrella has already raked in Salesforce, LinkedIn, Ning, Hi5, Plaxo, Friendster, Viadeo and Oracle besides its own social networking Giant -Orkut. Add

My new Gmail 2.0
2007-10-31 22:53:00
It's here. I noticed it last night itself. But I was too tired to post about it. Another thing, it doesn't work in IE 6(Haven't tried out IE7). It works on my Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.6.Okay now for the proof of the new Gmail 2.0.Here's how it is before:And after:The url for the new Gmail is http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2 and its ui=1 for the older one. It does load faster than the older version and just wait and watch as I show you more before and after shots. But before that, just another flaunt shot of my IMAP enabled.Okay back to the Before shot:This time its the Contact page, coz that is the only other difference I've been able to figure out yet. Before:After:Another feature:(if you can call it that)The yellow bannered text which appears when you complete a task, like send a mail, or delete spam, or when the mail has gone corrupt etc., is now a shade lighter..or is two shades lighter. Well, you have to see it for yourself. I don't really want to test that.Did you like the new

What's up Google?
2007-10-31 13:18:00
I have had a lot of posts here talking about the Tech giants Apple,Microsoft and the new hottie Facebook. But well, nobody can deny the fact that we just can't do without Google . Whether it be search, or mail, or News, or Gadgets, or Code, or for this Blog. Google is the King , the Emperor and the Czar of all. But of late, Google has been quite silent, or has it? Ok, I do agree the IMAP support from Gmail did create a buzz, but compare that to the iPhone Jailbreak or the 240 million dollar Deal. So how is Google actually doing these days? Are Larry and Sergey upto something bigger, greater and NEW?Of course they are!!! Take this. Hold on, bring your glass of wine, and Cheers first. Google is in talking terms with Verizon on letting them use their yet-to-be released Operating Systems on cellular phones. That is a big shocker for Verizon rival AT&T. How this goes down, well ,I'll be definitely keeping an eye on it.Next in line, coming this Friday is : Opensocial(Link to be live on T

My Page on Google Search

I don't know why but it has happened. Google India kinda doesn't like me , neither does the home website:Google.com. But the European Google digs me, big time.First have a look at this, a page on Google.gr, that's Germany I guess. My blog on the queue for the Leopard Tee has featured on the first page, and am the 6th link. How to Save Pics when Saving,Right-Click is Disabled?
2007-10-31 04:26:00
Ok this is one of those extremely simple hacks which I discovered by myself in Firefox. Am yet to figure out the IE option, primarily because I hardly use it. Opera got uninstalled and Safari, well you read it in my previous blog. Anyway, the hack is here9if you can call it that). So if you had a flickr page with no option of saving the picture, what you can do is, go to Tools(by pressing Alt T, go to Page Info. Go to Media. What you see now is a list of the various media available on that very page. Select the pic url you were looking for and press Save as and voila.Hail Firefox!!!

2007-10-31 03:57:00
One Weekend:2 million. Most succesful Apple OS ever and it delivers. PC Mag reviews-despite minor problems, it's by far the best operating system ever written for the vast majority of consumers, with dozens of new features that have real practical valueAnd after the crackers have announced that Leopard now can run on PCs too,( google for more on this story, apparently similar stories on this topic have more than 2000 diggs..)there is no such reasons which should stop me from trying out the Leopard,Mac OS X 10.5.Pic Courtesy:marusin

Happy Diwali from Orkut
2007-11-08 11:15:00
India is no.2 in terms of Orkut user base, behind only Brazil, and this is why Orkut is getting so India-centric(which is definitely a good thing). Also, it is believed that most of Orkut's maintenance and enhancements are done in Google India ( I said BELIEVED, no one can say it for sure, may be Sergey and Larry). This one is a festive treat. The Orkut page has a Diwali flavour. Go to your profile, and just left to the space where you see your email ID flashing, you'd see a link called Happy Diwali. And if you click on it. Voila! This is what you get, a brand new Festive Look with all the Aatishbazeee( Fireworks!!!!). HAPPY DIWALI to all the readers of Techkeyla and all the internet junkies like me. May this festive season bring a lot of gadgets, gizmos and "peace and happiness" of course to all our lives! Thanks for reading Techkeyla. Keep the love flowing in and yeah, you can click the ads, they don't bite.LOL.P.S. This functionality is only available in India, or to Orkut users who

Continuous Battery Power for 3 years
2007-11-08 04:00:00
Is that possible? The guys at Next Energy New believe so. Thanks to a project funded by US Air Force Research Labs, these batteries, known as Betavoltaic Batteries are constructed from semiconductors and use radioisotopes as the energy source. The funda behind the working of this battery is, as the radioisotopes decay, they emit beta particles which get transformed into electric energy capable of supplying power to a laptop for say years. Just imagine, you would not need to charge your Laptop, and enjoy your cordless computing experience. All you need now is a DataCard based Internet access or a Wi-Fi.For the full report visit this Link

5 things I want from the new Gmail
2007-11-08 01:12:00
The New version of Gmail is here and is rolled out for all, who use Firefox based Browsers. IE is as expected, not prepared yet. But have we really seen any difference between this and the previous version. The New version doesn't seem to load faster in a very obvious way, the contacts page change isn't as useful as it may sound and well, the yellow shade change mentioned in my previous post is just a mere tone down of the hue. Nothing more, nothing less. As everyone, I too expected much more from the new version. So here is a list of the 5 things I want from Gmail 2.0. I hope Sergey and Larry take notice.1: HTML and Picture Emails:They enabled the Orkut scrapbook, they should do the same for the Inbox too. Who wouldn't love Graphics flashing out , or Youtube Videos directly in your Inbox? That's an awesome thought right! 1.1:An HTML Support for Signatures:See I'm not one of those who use Mail Clients for my personal mail,( I use Lotus Notes for my Office Mail). Primarily

BSOD questions me!
2007-11-07 05:14:00
Okay we all are familiar with the not-so-friendly Windows feature BSOD aka Blue Screen of Death. No bells ringing yet.Have a look at it.Aah there you have. The question is , how do you take a screenshot of it. I got this one from Wikipedia. So does it mean, this one's fake? Coz one can't take a screenshot of BSOD, coz once it shows up, all you can do is push the restart button and illegally shut down/reboot. Any answers Wiki?

5 Google Possibilities
2007-11-06 22:45:00
Remember Skynet from T2:Judgement Day? Yep the one huge AI network that takes control and then BOOM! People draw parallels between Internet and Skynet, or whatever. But to me, Google is actually the better comparison. Look at GOOG. Search Engine, Mail, Maps, Ads, Social Networking, Groups, Social Networking APIs, Blogs, Desktop Search, Translators,Codes, Labs, Books,Desktop Toolbars, IM, Photo Sharing ,YOUTUBE and now Mobile OS. Is it all covered, or did I miss anything in the list?So what more can we expect from Google in the future? Here is a list of what I think Google should/would or could do in the next few years (ETA not provided,LOL).1. A full fledged Google Desktop Operating System , not a mobile one ,which is Opensource and can run on any Machine with a Motherboard. C'mon wouldn't it be great to see the Big G on your Desktop as your OS? The focus could be on fast loading and Better Security.2.A Google Phone- yeah who wouldn't go for it? Apple did some really great job with

Tired of Facebook!
2007-11-06 22:30:00
I am so tired of the overdose of news pouring in from all possible avenues. I mean, there's a limit to all this you know. All the online spaces have been filled to brim with everything that has to do with Facebook to such an extent that it has started to repel. It started with the " Is it gonna be GOOG or the Redmond Guys?" , and then the 240 million$ deal, the total value evaluation a 15 billion bucks, GOOG's retaliation with the Project Maka Maka, and Campfire One, and then official Facebook nemesis Opensocial API. I had started to get tired already until Facebook punched in my face.Don't trust me. Go to Techmeme.com right now and just have a look. The entire first page is filled with topics and discussions about Facebook's Self Ads,Social Ads, MySpace Ads. What the F!!! I think more than we users (50 million of us on facebook), these Industry giants are more enthusiastic, more eager, and more desperate to Socially Network! Yeah, after all they are getting all the money.P.S. I a
