THE Match Report: Charlton 1 - 0 Blackburn!!!!!
2006-12-06 14:13:00
"WE ARE STAYING UP SAID WE ARE STAYING UP" were the chants of the North Stand Faithful minutes after Talal El Karkouri scored the goal that lifted us off the bottom of the table and maybe the goal that turns our season around. We definately deserved the win as we were the better team. I noticed, from behind by drum, that there was a sense of elecricity from the fans tonight. It may be because it was a night match but one of the longest ever C-A-F-C chants happened at the beginning of the first and second halves. It was great. We came close a couple of times in the first with Lloyd Sam (making his full Premiership debut) coming the closest. But if it were not for the expert skills of Scott Carson, we wouldn't have come away winners. he made some point blank saves which Blackburn really should have scored. But right from the beginning of the second, Charlton came close again with a great one-two from Lloyd Sam into the box, just missing Darren Bent.It looked as if it would be a dissapointi

THE Match Report: Charlton 1 - 1 Everton
2006-11-26 17:54:00
A strong point for us was the result in this match, when really we could have taken all three.Charlton were poor in the first half but Everton never really took advantage of the situation, so the sides went in all square at half time. But after the break, this was soon to change as an Everton free kick resulted in a Hermann Hreidarsson own goal when it was whipped into the box. Unfortunate, but this is when all Charlton fans thought "here we go again".Rommedahl and Reid were having a great game, and eventually after the gaffer subbed off a dissapointing Ambrose for Marcus Bent, the latter scored a scorcher. Bent talked the defender which layed it into the path of Reid who whacked it into the back of the net. From this point onwards we were all over Everton and really should have taken 3 points. But this was an improvement after last weeks hilarities!James - Staff Writer

THE Match Report: Reading 2 - 0 Charlton
2006-11-19 19:15:00
I always love away trips, the journey to Reading wasn't too bad for me as I live close. But I have no idea why I made that journey, because I would return 4 hours later speechless and wondering why I wasted my time, as well as many other fans were thinking. There really is nothing to say, we were the laughing stock of Berkshire that day, and now I am really worried about what this season will turn out to be!James - Staff writer

THE New Manager
2006-11-15 21:38:00
Yes, Assistant Head Coach to Iain Dowie, Les Reed, has been promoted to head coach, not temporarily, but on a permanent basis. Now this came of a shock as I wouldn't think he would have had enough experience to manage at the highest level. But we have to give him a chance, so good luck Les.James - Staff Writer

THE Big Story: Dowie and out
2006-11-13 23:38:00
Thats it, after much speculation, the Iain Dowie era of Charlton Athletic is over. Not much is known about the leaving of the ex-Palarse gaffer, but it seems that he has been sacked by the club, from reading various stories on the internet. I think it is the wrong decision by the board - if it was a sacking - but I do think that maybe it could work well.It looks as if Alex McLeish is the favourite of taking over, after early claims that Alan Curbishley was set to return - which were quickly dismissed by the long serving ex-Addicks manager. We will bring you more info when we hear it.James - Staff Writer

THE Old Gaffer
2006-12-14 00:37:00
As you probably have heard by now, former gaffer Alan Curbishley has been appointed the new manager of West Ham United. Former coach Mervyn Day has been appointed Assistant Manager as well. Now this will be an interesting appointment as Alan has a challenge to get the Hammers out of a similar position to ourselves - in the zone! Also it has been rumoured that Curb's first transfer target in January will be for Darren Bent. If he goes, which I think will be likely, I really have no hope in hell of us staying up in the premiership.Good Luck to ya CurbsJames - Staff Writer

THE Big Mistake: Charlton 0 - 1 Wycombe
2006-12-20 21:43:00
Carling Cup Quarter FinalWhen this match was first drawn, many Addicks fans thought that we had a strong chance to progress to the Semi's and maybe further. I was the same, but deep down I knew it wouldn't be this way. But we needed a catalyst to really try and get some motivation within the squad and this seemed to be a perfect chance to gain that.Wycombe Wanderers, an average League 2 side, made the trip South of the Thames with 4,250 fans and they were enjoying every minute. But a rendition of Valley Floyd Road by bagpipes before the match seemed to drown them out a bit.We seemed to start ok, but let that go to pot. From about 15 minutes onwards, Wycombe looked like they would score at every chance and on the 35th minute, Jermaine Easter did just that, putting the Chairboys 1-0 up. It was the sounds of "You're Not Fit To Wear The Shirt" and heartfelt BOO's that would have brought shivers to the players when they left the pitch at half time, and they deserved it.Passes were not b

I really don't know what to think, I have been a fan for most of my 18 year life and I have been visiting The Valley regularly for around 5 years. Now is the time I come to think "Why didn't I support Man U?". Well thats a stupid thing to say as I love Charlton and I will always support that, something I never want to change, but recently myself and many other fans have been so low. Why? You may

THE Big News: Reed Leaves, Pardew Returns
2006-12-24 20:21:00
Former Addick Alan Pardew has tonight been given the managers job at The Valley. Its is understood that Les Reed left the club by mutual consent. Not much else is known but the club is holding a press conference on Boxing Day giving more information.A sad situation for Reed, but we need a fresh start. I do feel sorry for him as it seems Les had no choice to become the successor to Iain Dowie, and he gave it his best shot, but all of his Coaching Badges didnt mean anything as experience was what was needed. His only win was against Blackburn, and I do wish him well. Now lets enjoy Christmas, Pardew is the man we need to save us!James - Staff Writer

THE Match Report: Charlton 2 - 2 Fulham
2006-12-28 00:08:00
Lots of boos were heard at the final whistle at The Valley this Wednesday night, not because we were poor, but we were robbed of 3 points. More on that a little later. There was a great reception from the fans in front of the Sky cameras, the band was merrily playing, fans were singing along and all were happy, until Fulham went one up at 13mins.But, unlike normal Charlton performances, we kept our heads up and 6 minutes later, after a bit of pinball in the box, Darren Ambrose levelled the game with a superb volley. The fans went wild and it was great that we had levelled. But it wasn't all over there, just as the half time whistle was about to be blown, a goal kick from Carson went to the edge of the Fulham area, 2 Fulham players failed to clear it and Darren Bent ended his goal drought and slotted home. An excellent way to go in at half time.We managed to keep our cool throughout the second half, but 3 minutes into added time, Graham Poll and his lino awarded a free kick for handball,

THE Latest Rumour
2006-12-29 18:22:00
After the press picking up on ex-Hearts captain Steven Pressley being at The Valley on Wednesday, it looked likely he would sign with us after passing his medical. NOToday it has been revealed that Pressley stayed in Scotland and has signed an 18 month contract with Celtic. The player will not be eligable to play at Parkhead until January.BUTWe have made one signing. The China FC captain Zheng Zhi has signed on loan with us until the end of the season with an option to sign permanently. Will be interesting to see what he is like.James - Staff Writer

THE Match Report: Arsenal 4 - 0 Charlton
2007-01-04 00:37:00
A match I had been looking forward to for a while, I really wanted to see what the new home of Arsenal - The Emirates Stadium - was like in real life. And boy it was nice. The seats were annoying but oh so comfortable, the atmosphere was great, pitch was great. It felt like we were playing in Europe for some reason, it was surreal! The match was poor, but we couldn't really help it as Osei Sankofa was sent of early on, conceding a penalty when it clearly didn't seem like one, but ref Riley thought so.Sadly thats when the onslaught started, with Justin Hoyte scoring his debut Premiership goal for the Gunners just on the stroke of half time.We survived most of the 2nd half at 2-0, but towards the end we let it slip with Diawara conceding a penalty and then Van Persie breaking clear and scoring a 4th. But us fans didn't let our heads dip, we continued cheering our team, even when they scored their 4th against us! We outsung the poor Gunners support and we stayed and applauded the team.

THE FA Cup: Nottingham Forest 2 - 0 Charlton
2007-01-06 21:20:00
LOL!Yes, Charlton are out of another trophy and the rings of "We are not a cup club" ring through our ears again. To be honest, if it hadn't been for a moment of madness in the first half, we might have won or taken the match to a replay. Now many fans would disagree with the fact that I'd have liked Charlton to have a great run in a cup this season, which we are fully capable of, because our FA Cup run was great last season, hense the reason why I took my drum up to the Riverside in the amazing QF replay.Today was a dissapointment, but I guess it fully leaves us to concentrate on Premiership survival, which is still looking iffy.Bad news in the Press today is that Pards looks as if he is going to listen to offers for Benty. That is not what I like to hear :(But lets get behind the lads at next weeks game, like we did at Arsenal, and cheer the lads on to Premiership survival.James - Staff Writer

Date: Saturday October 22nd 2005Venue: Fratton ParkOpponents: Portsmouth Score: PFC 1 - 2 CAFCThat was the last time we won on our travels, 15 long months ago. Today, we ended that dreadful record and beat Portsmouth 1-0, at the same ground we recorded our last away win so long ago.It seemed like a dreadully boring match, but from 5Live's commentary, it sounded as if Charlton were on top for most of the match. When I checked at half time and it was still 0-0 I was pleased. I never thought we would go on to win the damn thing! It all happened with just over 10 minutes to go, former Pompey favourite Amady Faye popped up and scored. And what a goal that proved to be, we managed to hang on and clinch the victory. What a way to lift the spirits of the team and the fans. We deserved this. We needed this.James- Staff Writer

Writers View: Is there something wrong?
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Well is there? From my view in the Lower North what came to my eyes and attention was how good the build up play was, but then the final ball being relatively poor! Also coming to my attention were the players lack of confidence to shoot at goal. True, in the first half Andy Reid hit a ferocious shot which forced a good save, but in the second half Reidy often had the ball in a better and more central area. But then he seemed to get nervous and then just pass it sideways!I don't exactly know what this means. Maybe the press talk is true. Is there a rift in the dressing room? Maybe the players aren't being trained properly? Although I highly doubt the latter. However there is one thing for sure....Something isn't right within Charlton Atheltic FC!George - Staff Writer

THE Match Report: Newcastle Utd 0 - 0 Charlton
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Another match, another point, at least not a defeat. After Wednesday night's victory over Bolton, a lot of us Addicks were hopeful that we may be able to pick up pace and get ourselves out of the relegation zone. But that was not to be, Newcastle were all over us in the first half, a match which was televised on Prem Plus - and definately not worth the 8 quid - but a couple of chances did not result in anything for us.We seemed to pick it up in the second half with Dennis Rommedahl and Darren Bent with near misses, but unfortunately we could get anything from the game, which ended 0-0. This really is getting worrying now.James - Staff Writer

THE Match Report: Chesterfield 3 - 3 Charlton
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Carling Cup Round 4Charlton win 4-3 on penaltiesThank god, thank god! We have made history by reaching the Quarter Finals of the League cup for the first time, but we took our time. The match, away at Chesterfield , had a bumpy start for the Addicks after the home side went in fron after 3 minute - oops. But none other than Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink equalled the game on the 40th minute. The second half had another bad start after the home side once again went ahead but this time Darren Bent equalised with around 20 minutes to go.So the game headed into extra time, with the Addicks seeming to be on top, Hasselbaink decided to go it alone and put us 3-2 in the lead. But in typical Charlton style, with 20 SECONDS to go, Chesterfield scored an equaliser to take it into penalties.Fortunately for us, we came through it with Carson saving two, but Hasselbaink did miss his penalty. So quarter finals, we reached them in the FA cup last year, and with Southend beating Man Utd tonight, we really could

THE Match Report: Charlton 4 - 0 West Ham
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Yes you are not reading wrong, Charlton put 4 past West Ham today, in a relegation 6 pointer. Curbishley's homecoming!!!We were amazing, out of this world. I was psyched for this match on the train up, and when I met up with fellow drummer James at Waterloo, I was even more. Down the Royal Oak for a few pints, and then in the ground. The atmosphere was buzzing from even before kick off!It got off to a good start, and we were clearly on top of the match and this was summed up when ambrose scored on '24. 10 minutes later, Jerome Thomas added a second. We were in heaven, but even more so when Darren bent on his return added a third!!!! Amazing goin into half time with a 3 goal lead! It was amazing! The atmosphere at half time was buzzing! Unbelievable. So our usual half time pints, and a bit of chanting in the concourses, we were back in our seats for an amazing second half, with the atmosphere still buzzing. About '80 Jerome Thomas got Charlton's fourth and his second! And it was wra

THE Week
1970-01-01 00:59:59
Like most weeks in football after the closure of the transfer window, this one has been rather low on news for Charlton fans. Perhaps about the most interesting snippet is the addition of trialist goalkeeper Carlos Alberto Fernandes. Depending on what you read he was either ‘one of Steaua's weakest links‘ (Wikipedia) or ‘a dependable goalkeeper who…helped tighten up a sometime porous Steaua Bucharest defence’ (Football.stats.com). Whatever the truth is we can be assured, with his excellent transfer record, Pardew will work it out. With the limited funds available, Pardew appears to have bought well.Despite his age, Alexandre Song seems to be a good acquisition. He provides what Faye should provide, not only protection for the back four but also the link between defence and the attacking midfielders, both of which were exemplified for at least the half an hour on Saturday, hopefully there is more to come. Perhaps Pardew’s biggest achievement, however, was selling an acciden

THE Match Report: Watford 2 - 2 Charlton
2007-03-04 18:03:00
Coming from last week's amazing performance against the Hammers, the Addicks faithful went into this match with their hopes high!A few changes, including Jonothan Fortune being recalled from loan at Stoke, meant we didn't start with the same team that thrashed United 7 days previously. But hey ho life moves on and we had to make sure to take what we can in one of the so called easier fixtures for us this season. But, saying that, we went 2-0 down within 20 minutes. You couldn't get any worse. I was hoping that we would turn out like United did last week. This remained for the majority of the half and Watford nearly added another just before the break. But Charlton kept their heads held high, and around 20 minutes into the second half, Luke Young slotted home a goal which resulted from a precision pass from Alexandre Song. Song has been great for us! Long may it continue!Just as it looked as if we were destined for a loss, Darren Ambrose headed in a Dennis Rommedahl cross to equal the

THE Match Report: Charlton 2 - 0 Newcastle
2007-03-19 21:40:00
Another game, another important match, another cup final and another 3 points needed - and taken! To have any chance of survival, Charlton really need to get the gap [between us and safety] out of their head and just keep on picking up the points! We were asked to get behind the players again, but no one really seemed to be bothered in the first half! Maybe a little too much Guinness celebrating St Patricks Day the night before, or was that just me!?But the first half really was diabolical, we were better but it really was creating no chances. It took until the 55th minute and Zheng Zhi, who was making his full debut, to put the Addicks 1 infront after a rebound from Darren Bent's fiesty free kick. Zhengy decided to head it in, but it seemed to take forever! From this point on, we were all over the Geordies! And in the 88th minute, Zhengy won us a penalty, thanks to a Nobby Solano foul. Now Benty had been subbed off, so Jerome Thomas was the man to cooly slot it home and secure the 3 poi

THE Special Report: England U21 3 - 3 Italy U21
2007-03-25 23:06:00
Well, I can't really describe my feelings! Myself, Josh and James went to Wembley yesterday to watch the first International match at the new Stadium. England U21's were playing Italy U21's.We got the tube to Wembley Park Station as we knew to get the adrenaline really going, we had to walk down the infamous 'Wembley Way'. After getting off the train and to the top of the station, the view was incredible! Straight down the 'Way' was the gleaming image of the new Wembley Stadium. I was told to move on by Police because I was just staring at it!I know I have seen it before (like when I went to CPW training) but the thought that within an hour, I would be inside was immense! SO, we walked around the stadium, lapping the atmosphere up, and then the moment came!We were entering via Entrance P. We went through, were searched, and made our way to the upper tier. But it wasn't the usual way you would expect, we went up three long escalators! And we were up on the concourse. I queued fo
