Bronze People of Albuquerque: The Series: George Maloof 2007-10-21 14:29:37
The inconspicuous bronze people lurking around various parts of Albuquerque…
I was downtown a week ago and saw a whole cluster of people. I will be adding them over the next several months. This is George
Maloof. He looks like he is watching over the downtown area. Hopefully, he doesn’t mind Sk8er Boi skateboarding on the sidewalk across the street from him! George is located on the corner of Tijeras and 3rd.
Come back next week to see where the next one is spotted! If you have seen any of these people in Albuquerque, leave me a comment to let me know where. I will go grab a photo for a future post.

Walk
Albuquerque has some great neighborhoods that are very walkable, including UNM, Nob Hill, Old Town, and Downtown. You can get your own Neighborhood Walking Tour Guide and start walking! If you work in one of these areas, it is easy to find a home that would allow you to walk to work.
Bike
Albuquerque was named one of the “The 21 Best Cities for Cycling” in America by Bicycling Magazine in 2006. The city buses have bike racks so if biking is too far, you can combine the two and still reduce your impact. Albuquerque has some great biking trails for the outdoor enthisuast. Check out the Bike Map of Albuquerque.
Bus
ABQ Ride operates 148 buses and can even connect you to Rio Rancho via bus #151. Check out the schedule online and plan your route.
If you are downtown, you can hop on the D-ride for free! The buses loop around downtown and are hard to miss with a bright graphi
Bronze People of Albuquerque: The Series: Sk8er Boi 2007-10-14 15:56:27
The inconspicuous bronze people lurking around various parts of Albuquerque…
I was downtown yesterday and saw a whole cluster of people. You will have to wait to see the others in the group. For now, here is a boy on his skateboard; I think he is the only one who can get away with skateboarding on the sidewalks in Albuquerque! He is located on the corner of Tijeras and 3rd. Just for fun, check out this Sims 2 Sk8er Boi video I really like.
Come back next week to see where the next one is spotted! If you have seen any of these people in Albuquerque, leave me a comment to let me know where. I will go grab a photo for a future post.

Albuquerque Kitchen Celebrates National Deviled Egg Day 2007-11-03 00:38:33
November 2 is the official day of the deviled egg ! I might be a Yankee, but I was raised by a southern mother and I love her deviled eggs. I have never had one that even compares to hers. It is a closely-guarded secret how she makes them, and even I can’t get them quite right. She always serves the deviled eggs with the potato salad (another great receipe), but we will just focus on the egg. First, it is important to remember that any “self respecting Southern woman” has a deviled egg platter. My mother has lost pieces to her traveling one, and let me tell you, having to put them back in the egg carton caused some bitchin’ and complainin’ everytime.
In honor of deviled egg day, I will once again try my hand at my mother’s recipe. I know I just need to practice making it and I will get it perfect. No potato salad this time–I am just going to do the eggs. I can’t tell you the recipe (I have been threatened within an inch of my Read more:Kitchen

NaNoWriMo in Albuquerque NM 2007-11-01 14:58:37
Tap Tap Tap…
No, those aren’t students furiously cranking out a 5-page thesis the day before it’s due; it’s much worse than that. It’s the NaNoWriMo
’s doing a crazy, insane writing project. The Goal: writing 50,000 words in 30 days! Every November, at various bookstores and coffee shops around Albuquerque, a dozen or so people will be gathered around their laptop or writing pad writing at a frenzied pace.
Killing the inner editor
There’s no time to ponder; this is all about speed. Just get the words down. Is it garbage? Who knows, you don’t have time to go back and read it– just keep writing.
It’s all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.
So far, over 440 fools have affliated for this year’s NaNoWriMo in New Mexico. November 1st is kick-off. A group is meeting at the Uptown Borders around 7:00. Saturday, November 3r

By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
