Recall of the Cow Heads
2008-04-11 09:49:17
A Kansas company is recalling 400,000+ cow heads because the tonsils were not removed.  Apparently the "mad cow" disease BSE could be lurking in the cow tonsils.  My question is, what foods are cow heads used for?  Seriously, do you want to be eating cow head in anything? Ew!-

Warcrimes at the Top

ABC News: Bush advisers approved tortureAccording to a top official, Ashcroft asked aloud after one meeting: "Why are we talking about this in the White House? History will not judge this kindly."The story of shame has even hit the Daily News TV show, so most of you probably have heard by now.  The top circle around Bush: Powell, Cheney, Tenet, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft, Condi Rice, not only knew about the torture going on at Guantanamo Bay, but they made the choreography decisions on what would be done. A copy of the ABC report and other articles about it:- reuters.com- don't quite understand how the media let out a collective yawn when it heard the news that top Bush Administration officials (Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld, Powell, Ashcroft, Tenet) personally signed off on "enhanced interrogatio

3 dead babies in Edmonton
2008-04-23 04:50:21
Me with "Boo." He was one of our foster babies back in the States.Body of dead newborn found in south Edmonton home  Edmonton police are investigating after a dead newborn baby was found in a south side home Monday morning. Police said they received the report of a sudden death at the home at 88 Avenue and 85 Street just after 9 a.m. Investigators are not releasing any other details and are treating the death as suspicious. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday. This is the third such case in the Edmonton area in a little more than two months. Last Wednesday a man walking his dog in a wooded area near Stony Plain, just west of the city, discovered a baby boy wrapped in a pink towel. RCMP said on Friday they had identified a "person of interest" in that case, but ha

Edmonton Fashion Week Gala
2008-04-24 09:21:44
Last night, I got to attend a fashion show/silent auction charity event called "No Food For Thought."  It was to raise money for one of Edmonton 's inner city/homeless organizations, the Bissell Center and to kick off Edmonton Fashion Week.I finally got to meet Jessica Halabi, who won "Best Emerging Designer" at last year's Edmonton Fashion Week.  She has made a beautiful dress for one of my friends & was one of my early testers for Fashion Mash.  I was a total silent auction loser.  I only bid on a few things, and I tried to compete, but everything went out of my price range.  (Which is nice for the Bissell Center who is benefitting!)  My friend however managed to successfully bid on a bunch of stuff:  2 pretty hand painted ceramic plates, a beautiful

Moveon.org does a nice job with their new ad & quote from John McCain "I don't think Americans would be concerned if we are there for 100 years, 1000 years or ten-thousand years."  Doesn't it just make you think of the perpetual war in the background of 1984? The Food Crisis
2008-04-30 09:57:17
This movie was made 2 months ago- their figures talk about cost of items raising between 25-80% in the past year.  Since then most items have continued to rise.  Staples like wheat, corn and rice are now almost double, and the crisis is slipping out of control.  The UN food program is going to have to start rationing food to people who are already starving.Take Action: Sign a petition to raise awareness. For more info: BBC: "How to stop the global food crisis"- "The New Economics of Hunger", Washington Post, 27 April 2008- -dyn/content/article/2008/04/26/AR2008042602041_pf.htmlChinese news citing World Bank figures- On this topic: give a listen to this Norwegian.  I love his videos- he is a riot.  Sadly he is also spot on about what is happening with food, economy

We have a very Catholic neighbor. This is the view from our side door to their front porch where they had some kind of altar set up on a cross.  A bunch of people came over and ate food outside first and then had some kind of service inside.  At first, I thought it was a wake or something but people were very loud and boisterous with a lot of laughing.    The framed picture beside the cross is from the 1800s with a man in a handlebar moustache and military uniform.  Some of the people spoke a Slavic kind of language.  I assume it was to commemorate some kind of European hero or saint.  "White people" having individual ethnic identities here in Canada has been a bit of a cultural shock.  Most people I've met here in Edmonton make sure you know th

Omar Khadr, Canadian child raised in Guantanamo Bay
2008-05-10 07:34:45
Summary for Omar Khadr.... he was born in Toronto & lived in Canada until he was ten.  From ages 11-15 he was put in an Al-Qaida training camp in Afghanistan.  In 2002, it is alleged that he threw a grenade at US troops, killing one and injuring 3 others when they invaded his home. Note that the child was shot in the back while on his knees.  And that US troops used grenades themselves during the incident. From then until now he has been raised in Guantanamo Bay, not in the children's section, but held mostly in solitary confinement with the adults.  He has been tortured & only last year was allowed to contact his mother and to talk to a lawyer.  I don't normally republish whole articles, but I think the importance of this human rights violation overri

The Truth is not demonizing America.

Facts and Truth are not demonizing America .  Be aware that whole argument of calling a fact "demonizing" is an Ann Coulter/neocon tactic where they respond to facts by saying that "Liberals hate America."  Pointing out facts and educating people on the truth is not calling America evil.  It is saying, "HEY what you learn in the media is for your entertainment, here is the real news.
