Thanksgiving 2007-11-21 17:59:30 I am so glad I found this ActiveRain. I really appreciate each and every one of you for giving the time and effort to share with all of us. I am thankful for my little family, My precious husband who puts up with me and all my involvement in real estate, my business and all the other things that I am doing. He is so supportive of me and I am grateful to him. His mother was a real estate broker as is his sister, brother & wife. At one time there were 5 of us in the business. It is just me and his sister now. So he knows it can be demanding but so worthwhile.I am so grateful that we can celebrate 5 years since my son's bone marrow transplant and there is no leukemia. Thank God. I am grateful for my daughter-in-law who has been through so much and does it all with ease. I am so overjoyed to have 3 adorable grandchildren that I get to spend lots of time with. These are my treasures.I am grateful and thankful for this country that I privileged to live in and be free. That makes Read more:Thanksgiving
Homeless In Needham 2007-11-30 16:48:16 I just finished reading an article in one of our local papers about a woman in my town and I had to share it here. Mrs. Leonard has been a professional who has really fallen on some bad times. It seems that about 10 years ago when she was 59 years old she decided to do some investing. She invested in Enron & WorldComm and we know the rest of the story on those 2 companies and their bankruptcies. She ran out of money and even the attorney she hired failed her. She said, "Once you hit poverty, there ain't ever a way out."She is actually living in a home that is virtually unlivable. Bill Paulsen, a Rotarian, came to install a smoke detector and carbon dioxide detector. This is when he discovered how she was living. There is no insulation and she has gone through 5 furnaces. She is a graphic designer and she has a valuable art collection that was lost in a flood in her basement. The plumber did not finish h

Among the wonderful things about Holliston is the school system. Absolutely great school system. In future blogs I will share some neat things about this quintessential little town. Report from 9/3/07 - 12/3/07Sherborn is home to the Sherborn Inn which has been completely renovated. If you haven't been there it is great. The tavern is great for quick bite and the main dining is just elegant. We went to a lovely wedding there last January and it was superb. Sherborn is a small semi-rural community. There is a full time Police Department and an on call volunteer Fire Department and rescue squad. Sherborn is bordered by Framingham, Natick, Dover, Ashland, Holliston, Millis, Medfield. Sherborn shares with Dover the high ranking public schools. This is a very picturesque community with large parcels of land generally for each property. The Little Drummer Boy 2007-12-02 08:46:42 Christmas Eve 1958 - Picture an 11 year old lying in bed in a tiny ranch in Stoneham, MA. I was normally a pretty sound sleeper but not Christmas Eve. I had wanted a record player for Christmas and that year "Little Drummer Boy" and The Chipmunk Song record came out. I could hear my parents playing the record and I was too excited to sleep at point for the night. Then I had to pretend that I didn't know. It was really the best Christmas I can remember. My family did not have much money and this was a big deal to get me this. I think of parents and that night many times at this time of year. Not long after that my father got very ill and stayed ill for 6 more years. My mom has been with us until this August. As I reflect at this time of year I think of that precious night when I heard the "Little Drummer Boy." Wish I had those records now but I will always have the memories. So what does this have to do with Real Estate? My mother took us many a Sunday to see Open Houses

. This property along with many acres was given to the Town of Needham for its useby the former owner many years ago. Lots of weddings have been held here. There are presently Rangers who take care of the property and prepare it for events. It is a another place I like to come to get away from the noise and just read or relax in the beauty of the country side. There are walking trails and in the summer there is a day camp across the road from this building. It appears that this will be the site of the Senior Center. The present Senior Center really needs so much work and there isn't adequate parking. It looks like there is a green light to go forward with the project to house the Senior Center at the Bradley Estate site. They will ask for $500,000 from Town Meeting Members to launch the project. They are awaiting for Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick for the decision as to whether the tow

Where the college sits they kept horses back in the 30's and 40's. Just kind of neat to see this beautiful campus and know the history of the land.

December 26th Fire -10 kids - 2 trailors 2007-12-17 23:00:39 After reading the post on one our own Melissa Grant - ActiveRain member who just had a fire I remembered my friend Penny. It must have been about 20 years ago. I remember how Penny was after the fire. Thank God everyone got out but all the emotions a person goes through when you are struck like this. The day after Christmas the heating system in their home caused a fire. At the time there were j10 children at home. They had just celebrated Christmas and so all their presents were lost. The good news is that their home was rebuilt by friends in various trades. No one was harmed. Penny sang and played the guitar like an angel. The guitar was not touched by the fire nor was her bible. The Flately Company put them up in a hotel for a while and during the time their home was being re-built they lived in 2 trailors on the front lawn. The girls were in one trailor and the boys were in the other. Penny and John were Read more:December
"I haven't gotten over the shock!" 2007-12-14 17:36:20 That is what Anne Leonard of Needham, MA said when 25 members of the Irish Village Soccer Club did over her roof. You may remember I wrote about this woman who have come on some really bad times and her home was in need of much repair. The worst thing about her house was the leaking roof. The men as you can from the picture below did work on the roof. They will have one more Saturday to finish the work they have started. *see Homeless in Needham blogThe Irish Village Soccer Club actually raised $4,000. The owner was able to replace her refrigerator and get some groceries and get light fixtures fixed. A gentleman named Greg Hickey who operates a website which serves as a database for local contractors also contributed to the effort: http://www.ratemycarpenter.com Mr. Hickey was contacted by Bill Paulson, the Rotary Club member who brought a fully decorated Christmas tree to Mrs. Leonard. The workers repaired her ceiling and replaced t
Needham Events 2007-12-12 22:18:17 Just 15 minutes from Needham on Route 16. This is a correction to time of performances: Re: The Downing Family Nativity on December 22 & 23. I need to correct the performance times. They are actually at 7:30 pm and 8:30 pm . This is now the 30th year that they have been doing this presentation. It started as a way to teach a foster child about the true meaning of Christmas. The cast includes chilren, teens, and parents from Sherborn and the surrounding towns. The part of baby jesus is central to the performance. This part is usually played by a 6 month old baby. Come join in this true celebration of the Birth of Christ. For more information call the Downing family at 508-653-2193 or Frank Angiulo at 508-655-5264
Neeham Events 2007-12-08 17:56:43 Just had to tell you about an event that is not to miss in the Needham area. It is actually in Sherborn which is about 15 minutes from Needham. It is at a residence that is very large both inside and out. The family has traditionally performing annually for many years. The do a multi-media performance of that first Christmas when Christ was born. This is complete with a cast of hundreds. My grandchildren have been in several times. They have been drummer boys, shepherds and angels. It is a special time that will touch your heart. They have animals including oxen. The costumes are just wonderful. They never seems to run out of costumes for the kids to wear too. The music is great and some reads over the loud speaker from scripture of that night when Christ was born. There are 2 performances each night of December 22 and 23 right on Route 16 in Sherborn at the corner of Western Ave and Route 16, near the Holliston line. Th
Aluminum Christmas Trees 2007-12-24 11:42:57 I got an email from a friend with all the things were experienced in the last 60 years I think. The one that stood out for me was the aluminum Christmas
Tree. My mother really wanted that type of tree. It had the light would change the colors of the tree as shown in the picture. Oh, I just wanted the green real tree back. That tree was really a depiction of my mother. She was a bit glitzy. I am not, m sister is however. I was thinking today of the ladies in real estate that are a little "glitzy" and that works for them. I tend to be conservative and that is ok for me. I only wear a little jewelry and not a lot of makeup if any. I might wear mascara if I can find it that day and earrings with my wedding band and engagement ring. I am not too material but I have been hinting for a pair of diamond earrings. I was thinking it is nearly our 40 wedding anniversary and that would be a nice gift. Then Read more:Trees
