A True Sports Fan 2007-10-21 23:12:00 This article was written by none other than our good ol' friend Chet. It was also published in The Hindu. I will be posting some of his old stuff until he becomes active here. Read on...“A true sports fan would be someone who would consider any sports person to be an underachiever”. Because lets face it any man or woman no matter how gifted he or she is, is bound to be human. And no one is greater or bigger than the game he or she plays. But what happens if we aren't true sports fans. What happens when we as fans too are human? “Is that really Mike Tyson”, the question asked by my dad wasn't really a question but was an expression of surprise. Mike Tyson was being clobbered like a rookie by Evander Hollyfield on TV. I didn't say anything but watched the fight go on. It didn't make a big deal as to who won to me. But I did remember my dad telling me, when I was a kid, that Tyson's specialty was the uppercut knockout punch. Seemed like he had run out of those punch Read more:Sports

The N95 8GB 2007-10-19 00:08:00 Yes, the Symbian goodness at its best is coming soon! I have always liked the N95 and its a great phone, but there were also many crucial deficiencies in the N95. Nokia now makes amends and releases this mother of all phones, the N95 8GB.The letdowns known on the original N95 were its very very limited RAM available after bootup (only 20 MB, sheesh!) and its battery. Nokia has now released its much more sexier black counterpart with these things solved. The new N95 has 8 GB of built-in memory (although the original one purportedly now supports up to 6 GB) but no memory card slot, which might be a turn off for some people as this leaves no room for more expansion. It now has about 84 MB of RAM free to the user, which means actual multitasking. The battery has been upgraded to 1200 mAh, more juice while using GPS, Yay!All in all, another great phone! Keep up the good work, Nokia! It's currently priced at 560 euros (Rs. 31376/-) before taxes. You can compare the old one to this new

Meebo 2007-10-26 04:50:00 I have been using Meebo
for more than six months now and find it very useful and easy to use. Meebo is a web-based chat application supporting Live Messenger, Yahoo, GTalk, AIM, ICQ, and AOL, all in one page. Having a Meebo user account enables the user to have a single login for multiple IM services, all in one login. Invisible sign-on is another feature, which is not available on some IM clients (like GTalk). The "Meebo Me" widget allows users to embed Meebo on their personal websites. Meebo recently released a Firefox add-on which enables the users to integrate Meebo right into Firefox.
Cow-Powered Generator for Laptops 2007-10-25 23:35:00 An OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) Project Foundation team working in a village near Mumbai now looks to generate enough juice to power the low-cost OLPC laptops. Arjun Sarwal of OLPC explains that they used an old Fiat engine and a system of pulleys and belts. The goal is to develop a low-cost energy source that can be used in Indian villages. Working in a village close to Mumbai, Sarwal said the group considered using solar energy but sunlight near Mumbai was not "consistently strong." There was not enough wind or running water nearby to use these as sources of power, and the cost of running a gas-powered motor was too high.OLPC is close to putting its XO laptop into production, but has been beset by delays and rising costs. Originally intended to cost $100 each, the cost has since risen to nearly $200. And production is also moving slowly. After a trial production run in August, OLPC had hoped to start mass production in late September or early October. That date has now slipped to Nov. 1 Read more:Generator

Switch your screen from portrait to landscape, just like the iPhone 2007-11-01 00:30:00 rotateMe is a freeware application for Symbian OS 3rd edition devices, which allow you to switch your phone screen
from portrait to landscape and vice versa. It was created by a French developer, By Samir. One of the best things about iPhone
and iTouch is the way it auto-rotates to landscape or portrait mode, depending on the way you hold it. Thanks to By Samir, you can now have this on your N95 too!rotateMe v.20rotateMe apparently uses the motion sensor already available on the N95, which is primarily used by the camera to change orientation when taking pictures. Here is a video of rotateMe at work on N95 (French).Version 2.0 is also available for N73 and N80, although there is no automatic changing due to the lack of motion sensor on these two phones. But you can use a hotkey to switch between landscape and portrait modes.Note: You need to sign the .sis file before you install it.
I Knew You Would Come 2007-10-31 08:15:00 There were two childhood buddies who went through school and college and even joined the army together. War broke out and they were fighting in the same unit. One night they were ambushed. Bullets were flying all over and out of the darkness came a voice, "Harry, please come and help me."Harry immediately recognized the voice of his childhood buddy, Bill. He asked the captain if he could go. The captain said, "No, I can't let you go, I am already short-handed and I cannot afford to lose one more person. Besides, the way Bill sounds he is not going to make it." Harry kept quiet. Again, the voice came, "Harry, please come and help me." Harry sat quietly because the captain had refused earlier. Again and again the voice came. Harry couldn't contain himself any longer and told the captain, "Captain, this is my childhood buddy. I have to go and help." The captain reluctantly let him go. Harry crawled through the darkness and dragged Bill back into the trench. They found that Bill was dead
