California Fires Continue to Affect Tourism Attractions
2007-10-26 09:25:00
Firefighters were making progress yesterday toward containing wildfires throughout Southern California as gusty winds and hot temperatures eased. AccuWeather.com reported that after three straight days of howling wind gusts, some topping 80 mph, the dangerous Santa Ana winds moved to the east, allowing cooler and more humid ocean air to move into Southern California. However, AccuWeather.com Meteorologist Ken Clark warned that the more favorable weather conditions may not last through the weekend. Clark said a new area of high pressure will build into the Rockies on Saturday, which could return light offshore winds to Southern California into Monday.Despite a reduction in the winds, numerous wildfires still threaten Southern California. As of late Wednesday, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection reported 10 fires were not fully contained, while 13 fires were fully contained. Meanwhile, on Thursday, some Southern California attractions remained closed but expressed t

All About Traveling To Italy
2007-10-26 06:40:00
When considering a trip to Europe, Italy is often one of the main places of interest. In particular, Rome is a really popular destination and it is packed full of history. So if you are looking to go on an interesting vacation which is packed with plenty of ancient ruins and places of interest then Rome is certainly a place which you should consider. Why Choose Rome? In Rome there are approximately 2.7 million people. Its climate is extremely hot and dry within the summer months but incredibly rainy in the winter. If you are thinking of traveling there you will need a passport but if you only intend to stay for around 90 days then you will not need a visa. If you want to have the best possible vacation in Rome then it would be best not to go during peak times. Off peak times are between October-March and it is generally a lot quieter then and you can enjoy your trip a little bit more than you would in the summer months. It would be a good idea to book a hotel which is situated within t

A Vacation for a Family of Three to Montego Bay at the Coyaba Beach Resort
2007-10-25 08:30:00
The Coyaba Beach Resort is not only one of the best resorts in Montego Bay, but also in the whole of Jamaica. In fact in my opinion one of the best small luxury resorts in the Caribbean. We were looking for a cheap Montego Bay package, and a vacation for a family of three to Montego Bay, and The Coyaba Beach Resort more than filled the bill. Our daughter is only eight and so we needed a decent size room which we certainly got at Coyaba. The room was very spacious with two large beds, overlooking the beach. We were on the third floor, with good views, but heard that the first floor had a lot of traffic noise from the road. It rained on one of the days we were there, and the TV wasn’t great, but we were able to get a video for our daughter. We managed to find what was called a cheap Montego Bay Vacation package, pay for four nights and get the fifth one free, and that made it a good deal especially as it was all inclusive. Anyway the room was good, but the fridge wasn’t stocked unles

Virginia is for wine lovers
2007-10-25 08:15:00
BARBOURSVILLE, Virginia (AP) -- Winemaker Luca Paschina arrived from Italy 17 years ago on a mission to bring his craft to Virginia, tailor grape-growing to the local climate and soil, and succeed where Thomas Jefferson failed a couple hundred years before.Paschina, general manager of Barboursville Vineyards, and other vintners have learned what works in Virginia, and some of their wines are drawing favorable attention and holding their own against products from more established regions. As a result, Virginia also is attracting more tourists to partake in wine tastings, local cuisine and stays at nearby inns. The state has always lured visitors with history and natural beauty, but now it's working to grow this tourism niche by offering Virginia Wine Trails. The trails suggest itineraries for several regions across the state -- wineries, restaurants, nearby historic sites and special events.Barboursville, the sole American venture of Italy's Zonin winemaking family, is a destination on

Looking for Luxury Cruises
2007-10-20 08:02:00
These days, it takes a true cruise professional to define the term "luxury cruise" -- because "luxury" is the most overused word in cruise advertising. Travel ads aimed at the public at large (not specifically at cruisers) that contain a picture of a passenger ship often describe the offer as a "luxury cruise," even if the ship only does one-day gambling junkets from Miami to Nassau. But true luxury cruising is defined by certain standards. Veteran cruisers with some experience of the different brands understand this. So this article is especially important to the newly initiated cruiser, because you cannot rely on claims of cruise "luxury" that you may read in advertisements.A Short History of Luxury Cruising The concept of shipboard luxury, as depicted in the movie Titanic, is certainly not new. The grand old ocean liners offered palatial suites for exorbitant prices, many of them named for and used by royalty or people of honor. Having stayed in the Winston Churchill suite myself, on

How Suite It Is!
2007-10-20 07:58:00
The cruise industry is mostly an open society (I would have said democratic, but this is an election year and I didn't want to rile anyone): The price you pay traditionally determined the size of the room you occupy, but not much else. Yes, there are exceptions like the assignment of dining rooms on Cunard's Queens based on cabin category, and the new breed of special rooms for concierge and above levels on some lines. But overall, other than your own private space, the rest of the ship and all of its facilities are open to everyone. So a common question among cruisers is, "Are suites worth the extra money?" I can't answer that for everyone, but if you are looking for larger spaces and balconies, suites may be the answer. If outside space is not a priority and you have no problem with regular sized rooms, suites may not be worth the extra money. If you're a family of four, such as the friends I recently traveled with, a suite may be better than a regular quad.Celebrity RoyalSuite Wh

The Luxury Cruise Lineup
2007-10-20 07:52:00
The six luxury cruise lines will be spanning the globe in 2008, offering guests an opportunity to reach virtually everyplace a cruise ship can safely go, with a range of itineraries from short cruises to around-the-world adventures. Crystal, Cunard, Radisson Seven Seas, Sea Dream Yacht Club, Silversea and The Yachts of Seabourn will have 17 ships sailing the seven seas next year.Prime DestinationsThe luxury lines apparently feel Europe is the most important place to be from mid-May all the way through mid-November. Some 14 of the lines’ 17 ships will be in the region, operating itineraries from the North Cape (Crystal, Radisson Seven Seas, Cunard and Seabourn) all the way around through the Med to Istanbul. The range of Baltic, Western Europe/British Isles and Mediterranean itineraries is pretty impressive, with ships stopping at the usual popular places but also adding new ports -- especially small ones. Two of the three luxury ships not going to Europe will spend their summers in Al

Gay New York City in a Nutshell:
2007-10-19 17:18:00
America's largest city and one of the world's true great bastions of culture, style, and commerce, New York City also ranks among the great gay destinations on the planet. Historians have chronicled a vibrant, discernible gay scene here - largely in the borough of Manhattan - as far back as the 1890s, and Manhattan remains the epicenter of NYC gay life. There's a growing gay community in the Outer Boroughs, however, with Brooklyn and its Park Slope and Cobble Hill neighborhoods leading the way. Most visitors, however, focus their efforts on Manhattan and its world-class shopping, theater, dining, and nightlife. The Seasons:New York City's popularity is year-round, although summer tends to draw the greatest numbers of tourists from afar (particularly Europe), despite the often sultry, humid weather. Fall and springs are beautiful times to visit, with plenty of cool and crisp sunny or partly cloudy days. Winter can be windy and chilly, with occasional snow storms, but it's also a tim

Luxury Cruises - Debunking the Myths of Elite Cruises
2007-10-18 21:33:00
Recently I’ve talked with some people that think that the luxury cruise market is only for the super-rich, or star-struck contest winners that wander around Titanic-like ships with first and third classes. They worry about dress codes, fork placement, the dreaded last-day invoice, and a whole host of possible faux-pas they could make while onboard, like stumbling into the Captain’s personal brandy stash, and being thrown overboard for “bad form”. First, let me put your mind at ease. Luxury Cruises, while being, well, luxurious, are very approachable and very affordable. The staff onboard the ships are used to folks experiencing a higher level of service, food and ambiance for the first time, and they are very happy to help you discover all there is to offer. Here are some suggestions: Relax and Talk to Experts. As you prepare for your cruise, be honest with your travel planner about your concerns. The more information they know about you and what you expect, the better they can

An Aitutaki Honeymoon at the Pacific Resort Aitutaki
2007-10-31 06:50:00
An Aitutaki Honeymoon is the best of Cook Island Honeymoon destinations. The Pacific Resort Aitutaki is one of the few luxury small hotels on Aitutaki, and is absolutely ideal spot for a Cook Island Aitutaki honeymoon. Aitutaki is the most beautiful part of the Cook Islands, and is a remote paradise, almost untouched by the 21st century. The Pacific Resort Aitutaki is a fairly typical Polynesian hideaway with beach front bungalows, suites, villas, and a restaurant where you will eat top class Polynesian cuisine. This means fresh seafood caught daily and fruit from the garden at the hotel. There are a number of things to do, and sunbathing and snorkeling in crystal clear warm water over the reef right by the hotel comes top of the list. The reef is inhabited by thousands of brightly colored fish. This is a great place to relax in luxury and isolation after the pressures of a wedding. The Pacific Resort Aitutaki is over 250 kms north of Rarotonga, and you can get there in 40 minutes by

Experience a Private Home Vacation Rental
2007-10-30 06:30:00
This year, many people will travel in the state of Michigan for a vacation. Many look forward to spending quality time with family and friends, while others simply want to get away and unwind from the every day stresses. Some are looking for peace and quiet, while others are seeking adventure. There are several advantages to renting a private vacation home. First, there is usually a lot more privacy in comparison to a hotel or motel! That will vary, depending on location and closeness of neighbors. For example, a home on an all sports lake with close homes won’t be as private as “River’s Bend Ridge”, out in the country where you can bring your own horse. Some homes might offer affordability with a million dollar view, such as “Poco Casa Chalet”, while others will offer swimming and boating on an all sports lake as “Buckeye Breeze”. In some cases, you may be able to rent a home on acreage for some extra privacy or for hunting and fishing purposes.Usually, renting a privat

Condos, Villas, Cottages Gaining Recognition as Vacation Option
2007-10-30 06:23:00
Non-hotel accommodations in condos, villas, cottages and the like are gaining recognition among consumers and agents, who are “thinking outside the box” when it comes to vacationing with family and friends at resorts and destinations worldwide, according to John Peters, vice president of travel trade and business development for Group RCI.Part of Wyndham-owned Group RCI, Endless Vacation Rentals is a new brand name being marketing to consumers and to the trade, which formerly knew it as Vacation Rentals 4 Agents. (The booking site for agents remains http://www.vacationrentals4agents.com/)The vacation rental market is a $36-billion annual industry and “your customers already know about it,” said Peters, noting that 40 million families a year use vacation rental homes because “they want to spend quality time with their families.”Peters continued that travel agents are leaving some $4 billion a year in commissions on the table by not going after the vacation rental market.
