First BROOD Information Technology (IT) Workshop

Brotherhood of Destiny, Inc. (BROOD) successfully conducted its first ever Information Technology Workshop , October 21 focusing on Joomla Content Management System. The workshop also aims to establish a BROOD IT Team which will be responsible for the organizations IT Extension Project. The workshop was conducted at the National Ecology Center in East Ave., Quezon City with equipment being provided by the Philippine Rural Reconstruction Youth Association (PRRYA) through Merlan Nazareno. Reina Sison-Gago of YellowASP Corporation serves as the trainer while Stephen Bangug of KFC Philippines and David D'Angelo of BROOD serves as the facilitators. The workshop covers the general specification of Joomla including installation and administration. Also discussed were basic content management like sections, categories and front page content publication; and the Joomla menu system, components, templates and mambots. Stand Up and Speak Out Against Poverty and Inequality Year 2

For the second year BROOD joins the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP) in standing out and speaking out against poverty. This is in response to our commitment to the United Nation's Millennium Development Goal #1 to Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger. BROOD member attendees includes Seifer, Megz, Jackie, Jabez, Shen, Inkz, DJ, Quicksilver and Publius. Zabra Siwa of PeaceTech Inc. was also there. DJ performed in behalf of BROOD and sang his rendition of Ikaw by Martin Nievera. BROOD also had a booth in the said event where we offer a freedom wall for posing messages against poverty dubbed as Mensahe Laban sa Kahirapan . An entrepreneurship opportunity was also provided with Seifer coordinating with FIrst Food Link for the cart, food and leaflets to be given away. Okey Ka, Pinoy Ka Successfully Launched, Special Awards Given

In connection with theWorld Poverty Eradication Day and the Stand Up, Speak Up Against Poverty, the organization launches it's Okey Ka, Pinoy Ka! Recognition Award. The project aims to commend common Filipinos doing a good deed and making a difference, encourage other people to emulate them, inform the general public that it is worth it to be a Filipino, raise the Pinoy spirit and love for country and fellowmen, and to generate general public awareness. Among those given a Special Award was singer-composer, Noel Cabangon who is very active with regards to cause oriented activities. His songs depicts the general sentiments of the Filipino people. Noel is also part of the organizer of the yearly Stand Up Against Povery and also an advocate of Rock Ed Philippines. Sangkay, Karida Kit!: The Ryodan Fun Run for a Cause

The Brotherhood of Destiny – UP Tacloban Chapter held its first Sangkay, Karida Kit!: The Ryodan Fun Run for a Cause last September 5, 2007, 5:45 in the morning at UP Tacloban BL Grounds. The Ryodan Fun Run was conducted in line with the college' Sportsfest 2007 with the theme Pagkatitirok, Pagka-urusa ngan Pagrayhak Kita para ha Pagtapo han UP Sentenaryo (Fellowship, Unite and Celebrate as we Welcome the UP Centennial) which was held last September 5 – 8, 2007 at the UP Tacloban College grounds. The registration period of the said fun run started on September 3 and ended on september 4 at exactly 5:00 in the afternoon. Fun run was open to all UP (students, faculty, personnel and alumni) and non – UP community (students from other schools). The registration fee of the fun run was pegged to Php 10.00 per participant. The proceed of the said activity will be used for the operating expenses of the organization's inaugural community project, the Donate-a-B

Brotherhood of Destiny, Inc. (BROOD)'s fundamental principle is with regards to respecting human rights and with the development in Burma we would like to stand together with the people of Burma and the world in CALLING FOR RESTRAINT, RESPECT and DEMOCRACY IN BURMA. We cannot just stand idle while hundred of thousands of monks are being tortured, where journalists are being killed, where minorities are displaced and harrassed. We should call for an end to these violations of basic human rights. We call on the governments China, India and Russia to join the call of the people of Burma and the rest of the world. Youth Leadership Training and Orientation at St. Gabriel Archangel Academy

A new chapter is born at St. Gabriel Archangel Academy in Southville Subdivision, Biñan, Laguna on October 26, 2007 after 64 of the 125 students decided to commit and join the organization in its quest to make a difference. The commitment ceremony was done after the 2-day Youth Leadership Training conducted by the organization in the school with the full support of Mrs. Fe Masaga, School Directress and Principal together with their registrar Lalai Veranga and High School Prefect Greyan Commendador as well as teachers of various year levels. The training was spearheaded by David D'Angelo, BROOD National Secretary General and Librando Dorendez, former Secretary General of BROOD-Bulacan. David help the participants get acquainted with each other through an activity which lets them identify their characteristics while looking back at their past through their childhood photos. UP Tacloban Chapter Bares Accomplishments for First Semester 2007-2008

The organization's chapter in the University of the Philippines, Tacloban City Campus bares their organizational accomplishment for the first semester of 2006 - 2007. This is also the first semester were the organization had been an official student organization in the campus. Our Prayers for the Soul of Sir Grey and Condolences to His Family and Friends!

We would like to extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to the family and friends of Sir Grey, the Student Council Advise and High School Prefect of Saint Gabriel Archangel Academy (SGAA) in Biñan, Laguna. Sir Grey had been very helpful also in coordinating for the establishment of a BROOD Chapter in the school and we had met him during the Youth Leadership Training in the school conducted last October 25-26, 2007. His untimely death is a lost to his family, the school and to the organization. We pray and hope that he is happy and free wherever he is now. WE SALUTE YOU SIR GREY!

Raffy Usa, founding member of the organization's chapter in University of the Philippines - Tacloban Campus won as the College Student Council President in the recently concluded college elections together with 4 other BROOD members as well as a majority of their Kalayaan party. Their party KALAYAAN (Kabataan: Lakas ng Bayan) is compose majorly of BROOD members and was spearheaded by Raffy Usa. Among the BROOD members that joined the student council ranks are: Jan Gaspay, UPV USC Representative; Francis Ibanita, Councilor;Hafadal Ong-oy, Councilor; and Vennie Cotton, Councilor.

The camp will highlight leadership training and personality development as well as team building activities. The camp also includes an extensive entrepreneurship workshop which will encourage members to take on the role as entrepreneurs and make a difference for the country. This will also be the third year that BROOD is having this event as part of the 2008 Global Youth Service Day (GYSD)

APRIL 22 IS EARTH DAY. Should it be another Earth Day celebration just for shows? Our Earth is in deep danger or in street term it is in deep shit. Why? Because we are on the brink of a climate disaster. Ice shelves are breaking, weather patterns are changing and it is getting hotter. I remember 10 - 15 years ago I could play at noon in sunlight heat but now I dare you to do that especially here in the Philippines... you could not even last mere 10 minutes under the sun without feeling extreme heat.
