Summer holidays are almost here!
2007-11-26 01:04:53
December 21 marks the beginning of the summer holidays here in Australia which means that the babes are off school for 6 weeks. SIX WEEKS??!! I say this with a bit of excitement and a bit of dread because while we have Christmas, DD11’s birthday and New Year celebrations, as well as other activities planned, it is predicted that I will still hear the dreaded words “I’m bored, Mum!” So far my list goes: Carols by Candlelight Taking a drive to look at Christmas lights going to the beach/pool picnics kids staying overnight at my sister’s house kids staying overnight at my dad and stepmum’s house ummmmmmmm…….. The older babes know how to amuse themselves and I’m sure they’ll be organising to stay at their friends’ houses and vice versa. It’s the younger ones that need entertaining. So, feel like sharing your ideas on how you keep your kids entertained through the holidays? Share This 4 Comments At November 26, 200

Baby-sitting issues
2007-11-26 00:53:31
When each of our babes were babies, they came with us everywhere. We didn’t leave them with family to baby-sit for us for any reason. It probably wasn’t until they were at least 1 year old that we let them stay with someone other than ourselves. Now it’s not that we don’t trust our family to look after our children. It’s because they are my babies and I develop a very close attachment to them, as they do with me, and I don’t want anyone else to look after them. This may be weird to some people but this is how I was with each of them and this is how I am with Baby A too. So lately a certain family member has been trying to make me feel guilty because I won’t let her baby-sit Baby A. She keeps saying things like “I’ve looked after “—-” and she’s still alive!” How can I get her to understand that it’s not that I don’t trust her, (she’s looked after my older babes many times), it’s j

Stranded!
2007-12-06 23:58:25
OMG! It was such a drama yesterday! It was raining quite heavily in the morning when my DD14 was due to leave for the bus stop. So I told her I would drive her to school. While we were driving, the rain got even more heavier with lightening and thunder as well. After dropping her off, I was coming back along the same route when I got stuck behind traffic because the boom gates at the train crossing had come down and they were stuck. After sitting there for about 10 minutes , along with many other drivers, did a u-turn so we could take another route. So I drove around through the next suburb to come out near the end of my town, only to find I huge grid-lock of cars! We inched slowly and slowly for about 20 minutes, through roads that were starting to flood. I got a little stressed about it because I’ve never driven in weather like that before but luckily I drive a van so I’m higher off the ground than normal sedans. After finally reaching my town, I noticed the police divert

Wrapping gifts
2007-12-02 14:23:08
Each year, it is the same thing! I’m hiding in the bedroom on Christmas Eve trying to quickly wrap all the gifts without making too much noise. Well, this year is different. I’ve already wrapped a few gifts and they’re already under the tree (not the babes’ gifts, of course!) But I’ve decided that when it comes time for me to wrap DH’s and the babes’ gifts, DH can take the kids out for a while. I can put on some Christmas music, pour myself a glass of wine, spread all my wrapping supplies on the floor in the living room and wrap to my heart’s content (or the family come home, whichever comes first!) What’s your method for wrapping Christmas gifts? Share This 4 Comments At December 3, 2007, Tina Silva wrote:I usually just go to my bedroom and wrap them there. The bus
2007-12-02 14:37:09
The “bus” is due a service next week as per the conditions of the warranty. We need to get a minor service done every three months or 5000km (whichever comes first). And I was just thinking how lucky we are to have an awesome mechanic. One time, with the car we previously owned, something happened to the engine and we were up a few hundred dollars for the repairs. We didn’t have that sort of cash at the time but luckily, our mechanic said that we could pay him off weekly. I could have kissed him!! With five kids needing to be driven to this and tat, there is no way we could have been without the car. So our mechanic is a God-send! Share This

Another graduation today!
2007-12-17 13:28:20
I can’t believe how fast time flies! It seems like just yesterday that DD11 started Kindergarten! This year she was nominated by her peers to be one of the school presidents and each time I go to the school, I hear nothing but praise about her and the job she does! She’s off to high school next year, where her older brother and sister are. She’s so excited about starting Year 7. She met some new friends at the Year 6 camp she went to last week that are also starting at the same school. So this morning is the graduation with a morning tea planned afterwards and tonight is the graduation party. They are going out for dinner and bowling. M, We are so proud of you! You did an excellent job as school president! We love you! Share This

Graduating today!
2007-12-16 13:39:32
Our DS15 graduates from Year 10 today! I am SO PROUD of him! He has decided that he is going to return to school in the new year to complete Years 11 and 12, with plans to join the army after he completes Year 12. I can still remember his first day of primary school! DH and I both went with him to his new class room. He found the hook with his name on it all by himself to hang up his school bag. He went into the classroom and sat down with a little boy, like it wasn’t hit first day at all! I was so determined not to let him see me crying, that I quickly had to give him a kiss and tell him that I would see him later in the day, walked out of the school grounds and bawled my eyes out! (My DH, reading as I’m typing this, kindly just pointed out that I’ve done this with all our babes!) Yeah, thanks DH…lol I had to go to work after dropping DS off for his first day of BIG SCHOOL and each time one of  my workmates asked me how he went, I  became a blubbering mess a

Back From Camp and Luau tomorrow!
2007-12-14 01:08:47
DH and DD11 came back from the Year 6 camp this afternoon after being away for the whole week. After catching up on all the news and gossip from the camp, I have the lovely pleasure of washing all the stinky, wet, muddy camp clothes! Apparently it rained every day! But it sounds as though they had a blast anyway I haven’t looked at the photos on my camera yet so after I have a look, I’ll share some We’re all ready for the luau tomorrow ! The tables set, the room’s decorated, the food and drink have been bought, the cake has been ordered and needs to be picked up tomorrow after lunch. DD14 is going to help co-ordinate the games and, with fingers crossed that the weather will be as nice as it was today, we have a huge water slide and other water activities planned (using water from Dad’s rain tank of course due to the water restrictions). We just got a phone call that DH has to work tomorrow afternoon so he’ll probably miss most of the party but I&rs

Our Christmas Tree
2007-12-11 19:56:06
*I apologise upfront for the quality of the photo. DH took my camera to camp with him and I took this pic with my cell phone* I {heart} our Christmas tree! We decorate with the traditional colours -  red, gold and green. Although we did add 5 silver butterflies this year (one each for the babes) As you can see, we had to put a barrier around the tree to TRY to keep Baby A away from there. It’s quite funny because I used green food colouring to stain the barrier and when she gets to it, and manages to suck on it before I move her away, her face is covered with green! Care to share your Christmas tree? Leave me a comment so I can have a peek at yours! Share This 3 Comments At December 13, 2007, Coleman wrote:I love your tree with the butterflies. 3 days till Luau
2007-12-11 08:23:18
I’m a bit worried because the weather isn’t looking too promising at the moment. I haven’t checked the weather forecast so I’m not sure what the weather is meant to be like on Saturday. Luckily the party can be moved undercover if need be but we do have a lot of water-based activities so I’ve got everything crossed for it to be a nice day! I wrote out the place cards and the badges today. I also bought more party food. We were going to order pizza on the day (Hawaiian pizza, of course! lol) but I saw, in the supermarket catalogue,  mini pizzas that would be better (and not cost me as much as ordering pizza from Pizza Hut or Dominoes!) We went to the op-shop yesterday afternoon and picked up a grass skirt for a couple of dollars! DD14 has claimed it so her outfit is complete. I still need to find Hawaiian print shirts for DH and DS15. So, everything is under control. I’m calm (very unusual….I keep thinking I’ve forgotten something!) Sha

I received a nice surprise today! I rung the finance company to see if we could defer our payment next week because we’re going to be short in cash. Planning a trip
2007-12-27 03:23:30
It’s that time of year again when we all start thinking about our New Year resolutions. One of my resolutions this year is to take DH and the babes away for a “mini holiday”. I haven’t been to Melbourne since I was a kid and I have always wanted to go back there, especially since a couple of online buddies keep posting their photos from their Max Brenner visits! So I came across a site that lists cheap hotels by city. You just click on the city that you are interested in visiting, and you can read all about the city, where to go, what to do, and the best places to stay! The website also has a blog where you can read about events happening in the city of your choice. I just noticed that there’s a Melbourne Cemetery Tour. DH would LOVE that! And I just noticed that I can check Melbourne’s weather right from the site as well, giving me a five day forecast so I know what to expect on my trip. Looking at that forecast, I wish we were going this week. Th
