Like pulling teeth

Clothes shopping with teenage girls. I can’t think of anything worse to do but that’s what I’m doing today. DD14 and my friend’s 14yr grand-daughter who stayed the night with us want to go shopping. The last time I took DD14 shopping for clothes, by the end of the day I was looking for a dark, quiet corner so I could curl up fetal position-like, rocking back and forth, mumbling to myself…………OK, it wasn’t that bad…LOL…but it was quite painful. DD14 is VERY fussy and I have learnt that when she asks me if I like a particular item, and I say yes, she doesn’t like it because it mustn’t be cool if mum likes it! *rolling eyes* I’m waiting for the time in life where my DD stops rebelling against me and becomes my friend! Anyhoo, back to shopping today. I think I might just take a book with me, stop at my fav coffee shop in the shopping centre and wait there while the girls shop. They can come and find me

My grandparents’ upcoming anniversary
2007-11-01 18:22:01
My paternal grandparents will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in January 2008 and I want to give them a special gift. I was thinking that I might get a photo pillow from a Personalized Birthday Gifts website and get photos of all my aunts, uncles, cousins, my parents, sister, and us printed on it. I love to give gifts that have a special meaning and knowing my grandmother, something like this would have pride of place in her home because family means everything to her and my grandfather. The pillows are made of quality fabric and if looked after correctly, they won’t fade so this gift would last a very long time. I can choose how many photos I want printed on there and even have some text printed….maybe something like “Happy 50th Anniversary!” 50 years of marriage is nothing to sneeze at! A photo pillow celebrating our family would be the perfect gift for them! Now just to get in touch with everyone to get recent photos of all the family. Share T

30 Day Organisational Challenge
2007-11-01 05:06:40
So the 30 day Organisational challenge has begun and while I missed the first one, I am so excited to be able to participate in this one! I would love to use this challenge to do a whole room in my house but I need to be realistic and I know that I wouldn’t be able to complete it. So I’m going to tackle my hall cupboard. I haven’t taken photos yet and because I’m a day ahead (Australian time), I didn’t do anything today so I’m officially starting tomorrow (Nov 2). I’ll take some photos then but they are going to be so embarrassing that I’m not sure if I’m going to post them just yet…we’ll see how I feel about them tomorrow! This hall cupboard is really my only storage cupboard in my house besides the wardrobes in the bedrooms, so it seems to be a catch-all for everything, including linen, towels, bathroom supplies, etc. A whole heap of plastic containers and such will fix it and keep it organised. I’ll be back tom

What’s a blogger to do?!
2007-11-09 16:47:10
There comes a time in a blogger’s life where the thought of making one more post about a Palm Beach facelift and Boca Raton facelifts gets a bit too much to handle. The heart starts pounding fast, the breathing becomes shallow and quick, the mind just goes totally blank and the screen remains blank for the longest time because no words flow through the fingers. It’s not often that I get total writer’s block and if I do need a little inspiration, I have a notebook with a whole heap of thoughts and ideas that I jot down as I think of them. Do you get “blogger’s block”? Where do you get your inspiration from? Share This

Twittering problem
2007-11-08 22:02:06
So I mentioned that I created a Twitter account for myself and I downloaded Twitterfox which allows me to write and receive “twitterings” right from my Firefox browser. But I have a dilemma…I think Twitterfox has slowed down my laptop. I’ve cleared the cookies and run a scan to get rid of spyware or any little nasties but it’s still running slow. I wonder what Neil Crespi on Rate It All would do in a situation like this. I might try uninstalling it and see if that fixes the problem. But then I’ll need to find another way of “following” my Twitter friends. Breakfast and botox anyone?
2007-11-08 15:05:23
Now this is the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard in a while. People are taking botox treatments out of the medical environment and having “botox parties” at spas and hotels. Apparently the idea of a botox party is not new. Women have been gathering with their friends in doctors’ waiting rooms with canapes and champagne for years. One hotel manager said that botox parties are the fun alternative to bridal showers or even a fun theme for a divorce party. *insert rolling eyes here* Actually I wonder if they’re doing this breakfast and botox in Maryland…I know someone who might just think this is the perfect idea for her birthday. Blogging dreams
2007-11-08 05:48:13
You know when you are addicted to blogging when you start dreaming about it! This is just what I did last night. I dreamt that I turned on the laptop, opened my blog to write a new post but my laptop started going haywire! It started making strange beeping noises and a whole heap of browser tabs opened up. The words “medical hair restoration surgery” kept flashing across the screen. I remember thinking that I wouldn’t mind learning how to make the text change colour like that while fading in and out. I kept hitting the escape key to try and stop it but an error message came up saying “you haven’t finished blogging” and then my laptop just shut down.  Yep, might be spending too much time blogging…lol Share This 3 Comments At November 8, 2007, Mary wrote:Ah! Running out of ink
2007-11-06 01:38:14
Isn’t it always the way?! I haven’t used my printer for at least a month or so and I needed to print out some emails today only to find that the printer has run out of ink. You need to really shop around for ink cartridges because I find they vary quite a bit in price depending where you shop. The last time I went shopping for the hp printer cartridge that I needed, I totally forgot which one I needed so luckily DH was at home so I was able to call him and get him to check the type of cartridge I needed to buy. So now I keep a little card in my purse with HP 56 Black written on it! I thought I had got it at a good price only to later check online and find that I could have saved almost $20 if I wasn’t so impatient and just went into the first store that sold computer supplies! I decided to be bold and ring the store to see if they match prices and when I told them the site that I found the cheaper price, they were only too happy to match the price for me, making me on

Bindeez URGENT recall
2007-11-05 21:44:40
A friend of ours come over this afternoon and asked if we heard on the news about the two kids that were rushed to hospital after swallowing the beads. So I googled to see what I could find. Read the story HERE.Authorities are calling an immediate ban and urgent recall of Bindeez products. Bindeez, which was named Toy of the Year 2007 has been recalled because they were found to contain the drug GHB, or Fantasy. All Bindeez are being removed from shelves and households with Bindeez products are being urged to remove them from anywhere they can be accessed by children. I bought some of these for DD11 and DD7 for Christmas. I’m taking them back this afternoon. Christmas is coming up really soon…and Tina Silva asks… When will you start your shopping? I buy gifts throughout the year and put them away. But the babes’ big gifts I put on layby (layaway for my northern hemisphere readers), pay them off slowly and get them out close to Christmas so I don’t have to hide them at home from snooping eyes. How many people do you have to buy for? Usually I buy for all of our family and friends, which works out to be…hang on, counting………DH, the 5 babes, my dad and stepmum, my sister and brother-in-law, my stepsister and her fiance, my stepbrother, my stepgrandparents, my grandparents, 2 x primary school teachers, 5 “family gift” for friends, 6 little gifts for my girls’ friends…phew, I think thats everyone! I’m sitting here on the lounge trying to keep my eyes open! I thought that if I’m up, I might as well check my emails and update here because I’m not going to have much time later. I got tagged!
2007-11-12 14:57:08
I got tagged by Katie for this meme. Here are the rules: When tagged, you must link to the person who tagged you. Then post the rules before your list, and list eight random things about yourself. At the end of the post, you must tag and link to eight other people. It’s fun. Give it a shot. It’s also a great way to get to know other bloggers. OK, so 8 random things about me: I played the organ when I was a kid. I have a stash of coins that my babes don’t know about! I don’t dust as often as I should. I spent too much time of the internet If I could have more children, I would have 2 more I sleepwalk and sleeptalk (much to the amusement of DH) I am terrible at saving money (but I try!) I Love You More
2007-11-11 17:40:05
I was asked to do a review of a new children’s book called I Love You More, written by Laura Duksta and illustrated by Karen Keesler. I Love You More is a flip-sided book which ends in the middle and and can be started from either side. The story is a simple conversation between a mother and her child about love. It shows you what love looks like from both a parent’s and a child’s point of view. I love you brighter than the brightest star ever shown. I love you so much more than you’ve ever known. I Love You More is a beautiful, heart-warming book. This book will be a treasured addition to our family’s bookshelf. The author, Laura Duksta, at the age of 11 lost all her hair to alopecia and after wearing wigs and pretending to be someone else for 19 years, decided, on her 30th birthday, to hold a “coming out” party as “The Bald Chick” and has never looked back. Her mission is to show that whatever challenges life throws at you, with

Graduation time
2007-11-18 23:44:23
I can’t believe how fast this year has gone! It doesn’t seem that long ago when we were saying that this was the last year in primary school for DD11 and how she’ll be heading to high school next year. Now there’s only a few weeks left of the school term! DD11 graduates in about 3 weeks and then is officially no longer a primary school student! DS15 graduates Year 10 this year and is going on to Years 11 and 12 which we are extremely happy about. He wants to join the army when he finishes high school. While I know that it an excellent career choice, it worries me in this day and age. But I’m proud of him. He has a good head on his shoulders. So there’s going to be a lot of celebrating in the next few weeks as 2 of my babies pass important milestones in their lives! Share This

Google stole my babes’ Christmas!
2007-11-17 22:13:12
Dear Google , Please explain to my children why there aren’t many gifts under the Christmas tree for them this year because YOU decided to penalise stay at home mums like me trying to earn a bit of extra money to help supplement our already low income. The little extra cash I make from paid blogging WAS going to pay for our Christmas this year. Please explain to my DD11 why she won’t be able to go to camp at the end of the year because the little extra cash I was making from paid posts was going to pay for the camp. Please explain to my 8mth old baby why her mama won’t be at home with her all day like she has been because you decided to penalise me for trying to make our life a little more comfortable and by doing so, my baby will need to go into daycare and be raised by strangers, while I try to find work outside the home. Google, you are not God. How can you sleep at night knowing that you have caused so much heartache in so many families??? Signed, One upset Mama!

Meeting online friends
2007-11-15 03:00:16
I stopped in to visit a friend of mine this morning and she was googling hotels in London and hotels in Paris. She told me that she was thinking about visiting a few of her online buddies and seeing that most of them live in Europe and England, she thought she’d make a nice vacation out of it. She doesn’t like going on bus trips so she said she was going to look into hiring a car so she can travel around Europe in her own time. We had a look for sites that talk about driving rules so she’d have an idea about which side of the road to drive on in different countries and the speed limits. Did you know that on Motorways in Austria, the speed limit is 130km/h! I don’t even think my bus can go that fast…LOL She has a friend that lives in Germany that she’s only just met and he asked her to stay with him but she decided that she would prefer to stay in one of the hotels in Berlin. That way if they don’t really get along, she doesn’t need to wo

7 year old starved to death
2007-11-21 15:44:56
This makes me so sad Watch the story HERE. A seven year old autistic girl died from starvation and her parents have been charged with murder. Apparently the father saw the girl slouched over and asked if she was dead. This happened at 11 o’clock in the morning and they didn’t bother notifying the authorities until 1 o’clock in the afternoon. What makes this situation worse is that three different government departments had been informed previous to the child’s death , that she was in danger. Why was nothing done? Why was this poor child not removed from that house? It’s too late now. God rest her little soul. Planning a luau
2007-11-20 16:18:09
There’s only 3 weeks until DD11’s hawaiian luau-themed birthday party. Her 12th birthday is actually a couple of days after Christmas but because it’s the summer holidays then in Australia and a lot of her friends go away with their families, we thought we’d have her party before school broke up for the year so she could invite her friends. We’ve been planning this party for months and I’ve been buying bits and pieces for it throughout the year and putting it away. DD11 is really excited about it! She passed out the invitations a couple of days ago. We made the invitations. We printed the details on a piece of card, laminated it and placed it in a ziploc bag with some fish scatters and a little bit of blue-coloured water. There’s still some more things I need to buy and I still haven’t decided what we’re going to do for a cake. Not sure if I’ll make one or just order one. Be back later to share some more details about the luau

Bad Dog!

I came across the cutest gift idea for pet lovers! Bloomingcookies.com are very active in the pet community and regularly rescue pets. To share their love of pets, they have started a new line of pet gifts. I was looking at the pet gift baskets and saw this one called “My name is No, No, Bad Dog!” LOL It contains Blooming Cookies for the humans and doggie treats for the fur babies. The container is a planter and there’s also a personalised wooden sign and a squeakie toy. This is brilliant! This would make a perfect gift for my brother in law! He’s ALWAYS saying “Bad Dog!” to my sister’s dog! Just hoping that he eats the “human” cookies and not the dog treats! Share This
