is now worth a staggering 10 Trillion Yes… or about $85 Billion. I real money that is around R595 000 000 000.
Or around double our entire annual GDP, how can a gaming company be worth more than an entire country? It does bring into reality why Japan is considered a serious piece of the gaming puzzle and why SouthAfrica
is not usually on the list of countries to release to first.
The phenomenal success of the Wii and DS has seen the value of Nintendo triple in just under a year. Is it really worth that much though? While the Wii is obviously a lot more than just a fad I can’t see it sticking around for more than 5 years, will it really make anywhere near that amount of money in pure profit in 5 years?

The Xbox 360 version has been in development for 6 months longer than the PS3 version but it is hard to tell really. The biggest difference between the two is that the Xbox 360 version has online multiplayer, which is expected for all Xbox 360 games that can now.
My wife has always been a fan of fighting games and when I showed her the video the first thing she said was
Wow the Xbox version looks better, the colours are just clearer and you can see more detail

This has obviously now caused people to jump on the possibility of a Home rival
being created for the Xbox 360. It has always been rumoured that Microsoft monitor all the blogs and forums out there for information on what the consumers want.
I really don’t want a Home clone on the 360
Hopefully that doesn’t leave any confusion, I could think of nothing worse than having to walk through a virtual world to try and find my friends before starting a game of Halo.

Prime and Metroid Prime: Echoes on Gamecube were part of one of the most successful and best realised franchises available on that platform, so its not wonder that the follow-up title for the Wii, Metroid Prime: Corruption
has been so highly anticipated by fans of the series.
Unfortunately for those of us in South Africa, local Wiis are PAL systems, and Corruption’s release date on PAL is a couple of months behind, so it was with great excitement that I managed to get my hands on an NTSC Wii and a copy of the game. After reading all the hype about this title, as well as the consistently stellar reviews flooding the Web, I was extremely keen to get my mitts on the game and start playing.

Killzone 2 - Best game to ever land on a console 2007-10-15 08:35:08
The authors from the Official PlayStation magazine have been in England recently giving Killzone
2 a run for it’s money.
When I finally put the pad down it’s with relief, excitement…and caution. What’s currently most impressive about Killzone 2 is the technology, which is genuinely a notch ahead of anything being done on consoles right now.
Now obviously we cannot expect the official magazine to be unbiased but that is quite some claim. So far Killzone 2 has consistently wowed everyone who has experienced it and if it truly does live up to its growing reputation it is a sure fire system seller.
The complaints so far have been worries about bad AI, however these have been brushed off as purely due to the game being demonstrated on a very easy AI level.

Box really is one of the best games ever released.
Which is quite a statement coming from IGN at the end of their 5 page review of the games…
But if you are lazy like me you may prefer to rather just watch the video interview above. While I am interested in Half Life 2 and am glad it is re-appearing on the 360 I am really hoping Team Fortress is taken up by the community at large.
It really does look like an entertaining game.
However Orange Box is just proof that the distributors have more than enough money as this poor sod has to wait until payday before getting my copy.
Possibly that’s a good thing as I still need to complete Halo 3 and Call of Juarez…. There are just to many games coming out now.

My favourites are what I have already nicknamed Jodrell Bank and Moonbase Alpha
So while not stating how many maps are coming we know that we are going to be getting at least two, I really really hope they don’t charge to much for these however and especially that Germany doesn’t find an issue with them.
Ranked Halo is going to be terrible if we can only join every 3rd game due to us not having the maps…

Kotaku is reporting on some rumours about the next episode of Resistance
: Fall of Man.
Aside from the first and last level, the game takes place entirely in the United States, where someone who may or may not be Sgt. Nathan Hale (who plays a role in the story) has to deal with the Chimeran invasion of the US in such places as San Francisco and Chicago. And there is a cliffhanger ending that sets up for a third title. Vehicles will be included in multiplayer this time around, one will be able to take to the sky with three new vehicles or boogie it down on the ground with the three vehicles from the first game’s Campaign
So they are going to be adding some aerial vehicles and pushing the game to be at least a trilogy. I don’t think there is anything suprising about that, you obviously want to keep your best selling games fresh and the easiest way it to make sequels…
The rumours of a November 2008 release are starting as well…

for the PS3.
Unfortunately none of the screen shots are from the exact same moment but at least you can see something.
The first 3 comments on that site go something like this.

I stopped reading then because I think that pretty much sums it up, we cannot really compare anything from marketing screen shots now can we.

While they don’t give away any new information about the game it does seem like the previous worries about frame rate and pop ups have been resolved. This game is looking like yet another essential game for anyone’s collection.
There are however completely unconfirmed rumours of a possible delay coming to the console version/s. These are being hotly denied by Ubisoft but they are not going away which is always a bad sign.

Today, for $399, I’m able to get all the same technology in the Playstation 3, and for $129, if I don’t own a PlayStation 2, I can buy that as well at any retailer in North America. This ‘game’ is called Rat Race. I have no idea what it is about but after watching the above video I don’t care to find out. If someone knows could you let me know as I am not spending another minute finding out anything about this. It’s just stupid?

It seems like when everyone complained about the price of the PS3 they were on to something. After the recent price drop in the States the sales of PS3’s through Amazon have sky rocketed.
As of right now the PS3 is up 1,077% in 24 hours and is currently number 9 on the bestsellers list. The first Xbox only comes in at number 18 while the Wii is holding onto its number 1 spot still.
Now the killer is to see if the PS3 keeps up this momentum…

360 with a built in HD-DVD drive.
Now most of you know my opinion on this format, I don’t mind if Microsoft release a Xbox 360 with a HD-DVD drive, I don’t mind if they release a XBox 360 with a Blu-Ray drive but I will have an issue if the choice is taken away.
In some exciting news for HD-DVD fans, Scott Browning, one of the most experienced CE retail marketing executives in Australia, has revealed that Microsoft is preparing to launch a new Xbox 360 console featuring a built in HD-DVD drive
If they decide that instead of giving us a much wanted price cut they will bundle the HD-DVD drive instead I will be very annoyed. Leave the format war to choice please.

Gamespot has had the opportunity to review Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Desctruction and has some mixed feelings about the game.
Getting straight to the point the good parts of the game are
Shooting and platforming is always fun
Lots of useful and different weapons
Beautiful and colourful visuals
Tight Controls
The bad parts would be
Uninteresting story
Bad ending
Game lacks an identity
Difficulty is too easy
So all in all quite a mixed bag, it seems to just be missing the cutting edge and while it will be a great title to add to your collection it is still not that elusive system mover that the PS3 is looking for.

Corp said on Thursday that it had agreed to sell its production facilities for the powerful computer chip at the heart of its struggling Playstation 3 game console to rival Toshiba

The deal, reportedly worth over $1-billion, is part of Sony’s efforts to refocus on its core electronics business and staunch losses from the PS3 in the face of fierce competition from Nintendo’s Wii.
The two companies will set up a joint venture to produce high-performance semiconductors under the basic deal, which they hope to finalise by next March.
No price tag was revealed although the Nikkei business daily reported earlier that the total deal was worth an estimated 130-billion yen ($1.1-billion).
“We haven’t confirmed the precise asset value,” said Sony spokesperson Chisato Kitsukawa.

Arcade confirmed for South Africa 2007-10-24 02:37:55 I just received another press release from Microsoft and they have finally confirmed the arrival of the Xbox 360 Arcade in SouthAfrica

This should be available to buy from this Friday and is basically the core model with a wireless controller, 256Mb memory card and 5 Arcade games bundled in.
The games are PAC-MAN Championship Edition,? (NAMCO BANDAI Games), ?Uno,? ?Luxor 2,? ?Boom Boom Rocket? (Electronic Arts), and ?Feeding Frenzy.?
However there seems to be another two games being bundled, according to the press release Project Gotham Racing Classic and Dead or Alive Classic will also be bundled.
I can only presume they mean PGR3 and DOA4, if they do then once again this is quite a good deal for the more casual gamers.
[Update] Microsoft has confirmed they are actually the first games in the series. PGR1 and DOA1… I don’t think I have actually played either. Microsoft have re-confirmed that it is actually Dead or Alive 4 and Project Gotham Racing 3 retail

parody of GTA called Grand Theft

When I first heard it I thought it was going to be another lawyer jumping the gun and Rockstar would come out and say it was fine, however they haven’t. They have forced EA to change the title to “Mob Rules” now…

Kotaku has posted some bad screen shots of the PS3’s version of Lost Planet
this morning.
Now can someone explain to me how it is possible that 10 months after the 360 version hit the shelves the PS3 version looks much much worse?
Take a look at the image above, I think it is pretty clear that the PS3 version is just not as good as the Xbox 360 version. However if you are still not convinced then click here. (Warning not recommended for graphics fans).
Now I know you are just going to say you don’t care about this game anyway, but really it is pathetic that every single PS3 port is the deformed child of it’s Xbox 360 parent. Just when are these developers going to get to grips with the PS3’s architecture?

Pro Evolution Soccer has been a PlayStation mainstay for many years now and is developed by the same company that develops the incredibly popular Metal Gear Solid franchise. Which is why what I am about to report on must be very worrying for the PS3 fans.
According to Pro-g.co.uk (a popular non biased UK website) the PS3 version of PES 2008 sucks. It’s absolutely terrible.
Put simply, the game suffers from horrible slowdown and drops in frame rate that happen too frequently to ignore.
Whenever the ball gets more than a few feet above head height, you’ll notice the frame rate drop to worrying levels.
But the annoying thing is that when the game inexplicably and implausibly slows down, it puts you off your timing.
