Hi. It's me. I'm still alive and kicking. Sort of. 2008-03-12 11:36:47 Yet again I find myself making an apology for leaving everyone hanging about a prayer request. Thanks so much for your concern and your prayers - I have to say that I have been overwhelmed by the amount of emails from y'all checking on my mom and I truly appreciate it.She is resting comfortably at home now after a brief stint in the hospital that began on Friday night when she was rushed to the ER via ambulance. I had gone over to her house to help my SIL with her meds (mom's pain management Dr has her on such high doses of painkillers for her back that she has been blacking out and her Internist is trying to wean her off, but her body is CRAVING the drugs) and mom told me she felt like her heart was about to jump out of her chest and she was extremely shaky. I thought her blood pressure m
Pi and Coffee 2008-03-14 11:23:30 I spent the day yesterday with my mom, working in her yard so she wouldn't have to. I think I weeded approximately 42 miles of flowerbeds on my hands and knees, leaving my palms raw and my knees severely bruised this morning. Now I remember why I don't have flowerbeds. Pretty to look at, but definitely ugly to maintain. Unless you're my mom. I asked my son if he wanted to help out and he said, "Nope! I'm going to stay inside and watch the news with Granpa!" But I had the two girls and they were immensely helpful. Katie weeded right along side of me and Abby transferred the piles of weeds into bags to be thrown away.On the bright side, it was a beautiful Texas day. Sunny and warm, with just the right amount of breeze. I sometimes wish that our weather was a constant 70 degrees, as it was ye Read more:Coffee

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to My Blog... 2008-03-27 11:02:41 One plausible explanation for my 2 week blog absence is that I have been stuck in a time warp of such behemothic proportions that it has taken me this long to extricate myself in order to write an entry. Or, I could just say that I've been busy? But somehow "busy" just doesn't describe the last two weeks. I was feeling a tad bit overextended, as though I was a size small sweater that had been stretched out on a drying rack to fit a very large woman. Frazzled, with strings unraveling, but trying to hold it together for the sake of my family. Then a funny thing happened. Right smack dab in the middle of my little storm, I found something I've been searching for - peace. I am just beginning to understand after 38 years what the term "living in Faith" really means. Charles Spurgeon said that Fa Read more:Funny

The phrase 'like a cat in heat' has never meant so much as now 2008-03-29 18:16:41 A couple of weeks ago my husband and I were having our weekly-stay-at-home date night, watching our $1 Redbox movie, and munching down on some buttery-goodness microwave popcorn when our unusually affectionate cat jumped from my lap down into the floor and proceeded to limp away as though both her hips had been broken. She was crouched down on the floor and every time her back legs would try to gain footing under her, her hips would give out and she couldn't move.I paused the movie and watched her intently for a few minutes, noting how she kept wincing in pain and trying to get back up on the couch. She was bawling like a baby and really had stirred my feelings of empathy when I asked my husband what he thought we should do about it. I was concerned that she had hurt herself in some way an

As if you really wanted to know... 2008-04-05 10:27:05 I was tagged for this meme by Dorothy, and as usual - I'm late getting around to doing it!So here are the rules of the game:1. The rules of the game get posted at the beginning. (check!)2. Each player answers the questions about themselves. (check!)3. At the end of the post, each player then tags five people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they've been tagged and asking them to read your blog. (consider yourself tagged if you want to play along)Here's the meme:What was I doing ten years ago?I was still adjusting to having moved from Alaska to Texas with a one year old - settling into a house and working for my brother until I could get "a real job" again.Five things on my "to do" list today:1. Something to "eschew" on... 2008-04-05 09:50:39 I haven't watched Oprah for years and I've been reading about her "new age beliefs" in the last couple of months. As a Christian, I am completely alarmed by the influence she has on the MILLIONS of her tv viewers (mainly women) who might be searching for "the truth" and will accept her beliefs as their own.Rebekah has written a very thought-provoking post here. I urge you to read it and join the discussion that will be going on.Look on the bright side! Subscribe via RSS.
From now on, all you'll get is pointless, incessant barking... 2008-04-04 12:22:02 Something truly amazing has happened to me in the last month. Let me explain. For about 32 seconds, I had ambitions of becoming a famous blogger who had thousands of people visiting her site daily (much like Pioneer Woman...but without the cooking and the photos...just the fans) to read her latest madcap adventure and then comment with much adoration and glee. I'd have companies contacting me for fabulous giveaways and people would come in droves to see what was going on over here. Then I realized it was work. (insert screeching record sound here) And I already worked full time at home, plus I homeschooled. So it wasn't working. Per se. Plus, I never wrote anything - because I was feeling like everything had to be witty and thoughtful and (gasp!) really well written. That's a lot of pressur

Randomness with a Giveaway thrown in just for fun 2008-04-08 00:38:30 I've been having trouble sleeping the last week or so. Well, that's not entirely true - once I'm actually asleep, I'm fine. It's the getting to sleep that is the problem. My brain acts as if it's going through its second puberty - wanting to stay up all night and party, oblivious of the time. For the last 2 weeks, I have been awake until 3:30 am (or later) and have had to force myself to go to my bed and either read or count the filigree cutouts on my ceiling fan. For some people, this would not be an issue - but since I have a son that likes to wake up at the rooster's first crow, my eyes don't really force themselves open until after the second cup of coffee. Then I'm all good.I think it's because I cut sugar out of my diet. Not only have I lost 17 pounds in the last month, I've begun to
What would you do? 2008-04-07 11:50:39 So here's the deal, internets...I'm thinking of doing custom blog headers (and possibly design) as a way to supplement my income. I have done some research and read up on what some of the top blog designers charge and if you ask me - it's too much! (but, of course, that's why they are "TOP" blog designers) Am I that cheap? Granted, it takes a lot of time to do a custom header - because I've done several, so I know. They range from $50 - $200, depending on what style of design and who is designing it. But $200 is a lot for a swanky design, don't ya think?I am a little bit overwhelmed right now at the thought of starting a business doing this, because then I'll have to post guidelines. Which means I'll have to actually have clarity of thought...easier said that done, these days. But I think
Introducing...Home, But Not Alone 2008-04-07 10:52:16 I'd like you to meet Elaine from "Home, but Not Alone". She lives in Northern Ireland and she has become one of my favorite bloggers over the past year because she is so knowledgeable about the Bible. I was excited when she asked me about doing her blog header for WordPress because I had never worked with Wordpress before. I found it easier (once I figured out what I was doing) than Blogger. Today wasn't so bad after all... 2008-04-09 23:54:16 1. It rained so hard our yard and driveway flooded and we couldn't get out.2. The kids built a fort in the dining room using every single blanket, pillow and throwcushion in the house.3. I had "the allergy thing" going on.4. I didn't cook a thing all day.5. I did 4 loads of laundry - even folded, hung, and put them away.6. I worked on my new project - you'll find out very soon what it is.7. I picked up and instructed others to pick up toys about 79 times today.8. Decided to scrap the idea of putting a bunch of stuff on eBay and instead bagged it up to go to our local battered women's shelter. 9. Spent most of the day holed up in my room - doing laundry and working on that new project.10. I slept in until 10:30 after going to bed at a near-decent hour of 1:30 am.11. Fashion Fiesta Friday 2008-04-11 10:59:16 One thing I learned when I was a buyer for Nordstrom is that when it comes to fashion, you don't have to have a big budget, just a tasteful eye for quality, classic clothing. I'm all about the "classic" clothing - because: 1.) It never goes out of style and, 2.)People can't tell that you've had it in your closet for the last 20 years. (At least I like to believe that.)Eddie Bauer has been my retailer of choice since I left Nordstrom 10 years ago - mainly because the quality of their clothing in unsurpassable, and the fact that they offer TALL sizes in everything helps, since I'm 5'11-1/2". Sure, I long for Nordstrom, but my clothing budget since I've spawned three children has somewhat...suffered. With that in mind, let me introduce to you my wardrobe. Going Home - Remembering the past 2008-04-13 02:33:54 Going home. It is a phrase that evokes strong emotions within me. When I think of going home, it is not so much a "place" that I remember, but more a "time". A time of innocence, when my life was happy and carefree and all was right in the world. It is a place I would willingly travel back to if granted just one wish, although some might not understand why after reading my story. It has been said that "absence makes the heart grow fonder", but whether this is true or not, I am unsure. I sometimes think that the absence of a loved one makes you forget things, especially when it has been close to 30 years since you have seen them.I am the daughter of an alcoholic. A drunkard, some would have called him. I remember that as a child, we moved eleven times in seven years. My father couldn't keep Read more:Going
