Michigan Economy Picks Up in August- Including Ann Arbor
2007-10-06 15:25:29
Michigan Business Activity Index raises 3 pointsMICHIGAN ECONOMY PICKS UP IN AUGUST REPORTS COMERICA BANK’S MICHIGAN BUSINESS ACTIVITY INDEX DETROIT / October 1, 2007 – The Michigan Business Activity Index compiled by Comerica Bank rose 3 points in August to 107, and the July reading was revised down by 1 point to 104. So far this year, the index has averaged 104, essentially the same as the average for all of 2006. “I am becoming more optimistic about Michigan’s medium-term economic prospects given that GM and the UAW have agreed on a new contract and a state budget accord has been reached,” said Dana Johnson, Chief Economist at Comerica Bank. “However, in the near term, the local economy is likely to remain pretty stagnant, given the distress in the local housing market, and the backdrop of sluggish national growth.”Kathy Toth and Teamwww.KathyToth.comReal Estate OneClick here to search all listings in Michigan with pictures and tours - FREE!

A tax break for people who have lost their homes...paid for by people who have not?As the mortgage meltdown collides with Washington politics, we're starting to hear more noise from lawmakers trying to find a way to help people save their homes. In a new bill introduced just the other day, Congress is proposing a tax break for people who have lost their homes. The downside is - it will be paid for largely by people who haven't.With constituents facing foreclosure and an election year looming, the pressure's on Washington lawmakers to give homeowners a helping hand out of the mortgage meltdown. A new bill has just been introduced in Congress (HR 3648) by House Ways and Means Committee Chairman, Charles B. Rangel, D-NY and Jim McCrery, R-La, to provide a tax break to those losing their homes. You see, when debts get written off or cut down, there's often a nasty little tax whammy that treats the money you no longer owe as income - and then taxes you on it! Just enter the cost of a product or service in a specific year and  by applying the CPI statistics, you instantly get the cost today. There is also more useful information about CPI and CPI calculations at this helpful place. Kathy Toth & Team Escapes from the Ann Arbor Real Estate Scene for an Afternoon
2007-10-17 16:34:06
Kathy Toth & Team Takes a Field Trip to the MGM Grand DetroitWe escaped from Ann Arbor and took a break from selling real estate.  We had a team meeting at MGM Grand Detroit.  I was allowed to steal away for a hot stone massage with Rob that was delightful.  Nancy Milam tried out her luck with "the Wheel of Fortune" and struck gold.  So she wants to return weekly. We did indulge in a fantastic buffet at Palette Dining Studio. Next time we go, we'll get to sample from the other hot restaurants. But the most productive part of our Ann Arbor Real Estate meeting was playing black jack.  We figure it's just about the same odds as finding a buyer in Michigan.  We collected our winnings and strategized how to return to the meeting center soon.  And just before we left, we snuck into Accents and Essentials, located just inside the all new MGM Grand Detroit.  By the way, if you go to your left as you enter and go in that first bar ar
