London Top Three Spring 2008 Collections 2007-10-10 00:00:00
Matthew Williamson's spring show told the story of a stylish nomad woman traveling around the world while keeping her cool, urban appeal. Ethnic details such as Indian beads and pearls, Mayan patterns or African raffia trim came along with more urban pieces: shorts and trenches in neutrals, safari metallic Bermuda pants or striped blazers. The end of the show brought beautiful, ruffled georgette party dresses.

New York Top Three Spring 2008 Collections 2007-10-09 13:08:27
All my favorite New York
collections seamed to be influenced by "Charlie's Angels " era, the wild seventies.
Marc Jacobs did a good job with its second collection, marc by marc…Strong colors and cheerful geometric prints on shirtdresses, corduroy pantsuits, coats and jackets and the next spring must-haves: patent loafers and color-block lady bags and square clutches. This retro show brought together stewardesses uniform and seventies pop culture idols and there were plenty of wearable pieces even if it somewhat reminded that quirky elements shown in his signature collection. A trench with an extra front panel in a contrasting color or a jersey-knit dress with one long sleeve and the other short and made from different, clashing fabric; they looked young and…ok, innovative, but, let’s face it Marc Jacobs is not a genius artist and he should stick with what he does best.

What am I wearing this month? 2007-10-08 09:53:36
October is the perfect time for wearing
a biker jacket, a very short and fit one, and suede ankle boots. It’s still pretty sunny outside and it doesn’t rain that much. Skinny or straight jeans go perfect with this outfit and I love this long grey sweater with a cowl-neck. I’m in a search for one alike. Grey and brown, these are my favorite hues for this fall.

Definitely a glamorous season 2007-10-05 00:00:00
This season's key word: glamour. Fur, exotic skins and feathers adorned most of this fall's collections as if designers wilfully ignored PETA campaigns.
Fur short coats
Talking about fur it seems that the global warming determined designers to shorten the length: forget about Cruella’s look (that some old ladies still think is the expression of supreme elegance).

This Fall's Worst Trends 2007-10-04 08:20:09
Have you ever had a nightmare in which you show up at a public meeting or a gathering of some sort and everyone stares at you and begin to burst in demented laughter? And then you realize what caused such hysterics. You’re only half dressed: you have your shirt, jacket, hat (maybe), shoes and….panties-silly panties if you know what I mean.

A new take on an old classic. The Trench 2007-10-03 06:40:57
I am crazy about trenches; I only had two although I wish I have a whole trench wardrobe. It’s something about the rich detailing: pockets, buttons, belt, shoulder boards. It’s the ultimate expression of the casual elegance. Anyway, each season I watch fashion trends to spot some new ideas. And for this fall designers have come up with some interesting takes on this classic fashion piece.
Luxurious fabrics: exotic leather and skins, satin and other glossy fabrics.

Are suspenders this fall's trend? 2007-10-02 04:26:05
I'm not sure what to think about the suspenders trouser pants/overalls trend. 70s inspired wide-leg pants, in neutral shades look fine but you should be careful what you wear them with. Stick to a feminine classy look: a delicate bow neck shirt or a cashmere turtleneck and definetely high heels shoes and a structured tote bag. As for those denim shorts with suspenders they look like early 90s kids or teenagers outfit. If you are teenager I guess they would look cool teamed up with striped tees and chunky boots for a grunge look. As for the quirky looking skinny sky pants - i don't see the point.

How to wear the leather biker jacket 2007-10-01 00:00:00
Did you recently bought a leather jacket and don’t know how to wear it? I’m sure planning to invest in one as soon as possible. But it seems that the fashion elite have developed a sort of a uniform: a casual look with skinny jeans and white/grey tees or a more feminine style by teaming the leather jacket with shift dresses.

Fall 2007 Must Have: The Jumpsuit 2007-09-27 00:00:00
I’ve always thought, until now, that a jumpsuit is either a toddler “uniform” or a mother-to-be required outfit or…that puffy white cosmonaut suit. But…here comes spring ’07 and then fall ’07 seasons and my opinion changes dramatically.

Style on a budget: Recreating a Marc Jacobs look 2007-10-17 00:00:00
Marc Jacobs
is one of my favorite designers, not necessarily for his designs, which aren’t that brilliant, but for the impeccable styling of his shows and for the straightforward American spirit he sends forth.
Marc is a great stylist and I always find out new ways to wear basic wardrobe pieces or new color combinations. His Fall 2007 collection has a retro vibe, straight lines reminding of twenties Art Deco fashion and of the late eighties high society. Or so it seems to me.

Fall 2007
I especially like this outfit because of that spicy red leather pleated skirt. I looked for a similar one but all I could come with was a straight red leather jacket I found on eBay.

Carrie Bradshaw and The City 2007-10-16 00:00:00
I have to say that as a big fan of the Sex And The City HBO show (I saw all episodes more than once) I'm looking forward to see SATC: The Movie which will be released on May 30th, 2008. Images from the set are already available on the internet such as these from InStyle online magazine.
When I'm dieing to see an upcoming movie I watch all trailers and photos and by the time the movie is released it's not all that new and fresh for me so that is why I m a little disappointed I can see this pictures before the release. On the other hand, InStyle editors wrote: "For those of you who want Sex and the City: The Movie to be fresh and new, look away!". Ha-ha! Are they kidding me? How can I not look?

Great Stuff at Damselle 2007-10-15 08:44:24
I took a peak these days at Etsy to see what's new and I found Damselle, a jewelry shop by designer Melanie Crowe. She makes beautiful, romantic jewelry, with a bit of a vintage feel, using metal chains, beads of all sort and ingenious pendants. My favorite is this gold and green beads and chain necklace with a brass scarab pendant that costs merely $35.00.

Paris Top Three Spring 2008 Collections 2007-10-12 06:30:44
There was a fun pajamas party at Stella McCartney. Her latest collection showed pretty and wearable clothes in a very laid-back, signature style with a smart adjustment of the season's trends: flowing seventies (again, seventies!) flower printed silk dresses and jumpsuits, blue silk “pajamas” tops or shirtdresses. There were also sweet little ruffled “nightgowns” and fluid trousers worn with white and khaki blazers.

Milan Top Three Spring 2008 Collections 2007-10-11 08:44:24
Alberta Ferretti is one of my favorite designers as, no matter the main theme of the season is, she always manages to bring forward romance and softness. Her lovely collection for spring 2008 was inspired by Ancient Rome: draped gowns, toga like tunics and “gladiator” skirts. There were also t-shirt dresses with oxidized crystal jewelling on the neck line or used as belts and vertically pleated jackets and coats. The subtle palette was, at times, punctuated by hints of “fire” red, yellow and violet.

Useless Design: The Stiletto Handbag 2007-10-19 00:00:00
Does anyone see the point of these so called (this made me laugh a little) “latest trend” stiletto handbags. No really? I mean, seriously, where does this idea come from? Was it a mind driven by childhood pirate tales with treasures hidden in filthy boots?(I'm not sure about that) If that be the case, what's up with the stiletto heel? Who could have thought that it would be fun to wear your shoe as a handbag or as a shoulder bag, whichever is more obvious? Because this is the purpose, right? To be stopped on the street and be asked "Hey, miss! Where's the other boot?" But who would wear such drollery? I can't imagine.

Style on a budget: Balenciaga Fall 2007 Look 2007-10-26 01:00:00
The fashion world is crazy about this season's Balenciaga
collection. Everyone wants or speaks about those schoolboy blazers, fringe ethnic scarves and "patchwork" dresses. I must admit that I'm not a Nicolas Ghesquière fan but I love the multicultural feeling of this collection and the fact that finally his collection looks wearable. And those preppy looks...
As everyone else dreams about the navy blazer I'm more attracted by the white look. I must have a thing on white this season.

Keep your jeans for spring 2007-10-25 01:00:00
I've recently wrote about what denim styles are in trend this season. As all major fashion weeks ended it's time to review spring 2008 trends for denim jeans. The news is that all cuts are in designers' favors. Skinny jeans are still a strong style but now they share equally attention with flare jeans (Gosh! Now I'm sorry I've thrown away mine), wide-leg and "boyfriend" jeans.

Red, White and Black 2007-10-23 23:00:00
I love this crisp and dynamic trio of red, white and black. It's a classic one but always looks young and fresh. Many designers used it for their spring 2008 collections and I can see why. Neutrals combined with pops of bright red creates unique, distinctive outfits. All shades are used: poppy, tomato, rose red for an attention grabbing modern look.

Throwing a Halloween party? 2007-10-23 06:11:25
Ok, so there isn't a Halloween
tradition in my country, though we do have a similar spooky celebration, but, still, the whole Halloween marketing empire got here too. So there are carved pumpkins and dancing Halloween parties everywhere. In fact this is just an excuse for one more party, no trick or treat here.

Japan Fashion Week: 2008 Spring/Summer Collections 2007-10-30 00:00:00
I have a true admiration for Japan
ese and in fact Asian fashion mainly due to New York designers of Asian descent such as Derek Lam, Vera Wang, Anna Sui, and Philip Lim but also because of the street style blogs, especially Style Arena about Tokyo street style. This is the reason why I start browsing for asian designers and started with Japan Fashion
Week as a fashion week usually gathers the best designers. Thirty-six fashion houses presented their 2008 spring/summer collections.

Heirloom Inspiration: Lace Trend Spring 2008 2007-10-29 08:57:14
Just browsing through spring 2008 fashion shows and I was glad to know that lace is still in fashion. I'm in love with artisan and handcraft work and this will be a good opportunity to start learning to knit and crochet or at least to start browsing more vigilantly through thrift and vintage store.

Fall Must Have: Cowl Neck Slouchy Hood 2007-10-30 20:00:00
One of the many of this fall's trends that I'd like to take on but probably will end up being just a wish is the cowl neck knit hood-scarf. Why? Because it's one of those things that only tall and thin women can pull it off. I'm rather small and that slouchy knit hood would make my head look gigantesque. But, on the other hand I think this kind of hood must be very comfy and the winter is almost here.

All Green at Portland Fashion Week 2007-11-08 14:46:39
The first eco friendly fashion week was held in October, 19 to 24, at Portland, Oregon. There were thirty five independent designers among which sixteen well known eco designers who presented their Spring/Summer 2008 collections at Portland Fashion
Week. Not only the eco-fashion clothes showcased but everything was green at this fashion event: the bamboo runway, the eco-friendly styling products, the energy efficient LED lighting and the whole décor - recycled fabric, paper and sustainable furniture. There was even completely organic food and drink on the menu.

What do girls wear these days? 2007-11-09 19:00:00
Browsing for street fashion blogs is my recent hobby as their pics are such a tremendous inspiration for me. Important names in the fashion world seek for new design ideas in street style and as Coco Chanel said: "A fashion that does not reach the streets is not a fashion". Indeed how can we speak of a fashion trend if no one wears it?
Anyway, here is what I found. Fall/Winter 2007 trend no. 1: colored tights. This is such a cheerful look. I wish I had enough courage to wear them.
