Greatest health hazard in Egypt... (Day 5) 2007-10-12 11:28:00 ...is not eating local food and drinking tap water. It is not falling into the Nile. And not all those big bad terrorists (who are supposedly strolling around) either.
In my opinion the greatest threat to one's health when traveling around Egypt
is driving in a protected convoy!
Some of you might think:
What could go wrong? They are protected to be safe, right?
Wrong! These convoys are a Read more:Greatest
Night train to Aswan (Day 4) 2007-10-10 01:10:00 If you want to get from Cairo to Aswan one of the easiest ways is to catch a night train. You simply buy a ticket, get on the train in the evening, get a comfortable chair, fall asleep and wake up in Aswan eight hours later.
Well that's in theory. In reality it took around 15 hours and a new locomotive to get to our destination. Well we got used to that kind of stuff at this point.

Zabbaleen - People of the rubbish (Day 3) 2007-10-08 00:36:00 This is the second part of Day 3 of our Egyptian Adventure. You can read about the first part in the previous post.
When we left the Mosque of Mohammed Ali our next stop was Rubbish city. But we knew nothing about it at that moment.
Our bus dropped us at a suspiciously looking part of the city. There was a strange smell in the air, but we got used to that by then. We just thought: "We're in Read more:rubbish
Goodbye to cockroach roommates (Day 3) 2007-10-05 07:10:00 This was one busy day, so I decided to divide it into two posts. Here is the first part.
Our second morning in Cairo started with our luggage being loaded onto the bus waiting in front of the Cosmopolitan hotel. The hotel staff who tried to arrange the luggage loading, failed the simple task completely. After half an hour watching two luggage boys walking up and down the hotel hall and waiting Read more:Goodbye
Day of the pyramids (Day 2) 2007-10-03 01:30:00 Our first whole day in Egypt began by visiting some of the most magnificent buildings in the world. The number one reason for so many tourists coming to Egypt every year - the pyramids.
It was still early in the morning when I woke up and went to check the hotel room balcony view. Well, nothing to brag about, but here it is...
From the center of Cairo (locals call it Al Qahirah) we drove
Flight to Egypt (Day 1) 2007-10-01 00:50:00 The whole thing started at Ljubljana airport, where we caught our afternoon flight via Istanbul (Turkey) to Cairo.
On the first photo is our last glance at Slovenia for 15 days. Alps can be seen in the background.
After a couple of hours we landed in Istanbul.
I usually try not to buy things at airports. I didn't do it this time either.

Egyptian uverture 2007-09-28 00:56:00 I have been quite busy for the last couple of weeks. As you have probably noticed it didn't have anything to do with this blog - no posts for a while.
I will try hard to be good and post more often from now on.
I have decided to do a series of posts on my Egyptian
adventure. I'll try to do at least one post for each one of the 15 days.
Here is a simple map of the trip. As you can see, we
Travel checklist for Egypt 2007-09-26 01:11:00 Those of you (both of my readers) who may have had your doubts about me still being alive don't need to hold your breath anymore. I came back in one piece and yes it was fantastic!
Before departure I promised to post a checklist of all the stuff I took with me to Egypt
. Well finally here it is.
Below you can take a look at my detailed travel checklist for the 15 day Egyptian adventure. Read more:Travel
Leaving for Egypt 2007-08-05 04:26:00 I'll be away for two weeks - so no harassment from me for a while. We're going to Egypt
! How cool (or should I say HOT) is that?
We are going with an agency. It is not really my first choice but at least it is not supposed to be a really touristy one. Anyway that's what I am hoping for.
Expect a hot and sandy photo report when we get back. I'm sure we'll have a blast and lots to share!

More photos from the picnic 2007-08-02 00:30:00 Here are another three photos
from the event described in the previous post.
We were a little bit sorry not to bring our tent. The place selected for the improvised camping site was just plain great. It offered a beautiful panoramic view.
There was this path planted with trees on both sides leading 20 meters from the old house to our improvised camp site. It was a peer-like short path with
Picnic season 2007-07-30 00:44:00 Summertime in Slovenia is always the right season for various picnic events. This Summer is no different. Every birthday of a friend or even a sunny weekend can be an excuse for another picnic.
Locations of these events vary. Sometimes it's just a terrace by some friend's house and sometimes it's some remote place in the middle of nowhere.
On one of the previous weekends one such event took Read more:Picnic
Into the bear realm 2007-07-26 00:38:00 Two weeks ago my girlfriend had an idea that it would be nice to go hiking again. It has been quite some time since our last hiking trip. You can read about that in this post.
Our destination for the day was Kurescek (Kurešček in Slovenian). It is only 826 meters above sea level and we took an easy route - 4,5 hour walk up and back down. As the idea of the whole thing was getting in shape for Read more:realm
Never-ending sunrise 2007-07-23 02:49:00 Can you imagine how it would be, if a sunrise lasted for 24 hours? I must admit that until recently I haven't thought about that.
It was a few days ago, when guys from the Apollo Team contacted me and I have decided to share this with you.
The Apollo Team have started a project for which they need people from all around the World to participate. People from different time zones are necessary
Sailing day at work 2007-07-19 01:15:00 At a firm I work for we had a Sports day the other day. Above all it's a team-building thing and we do it two or three times a year.
In Winter we usually go skiing and in the Summer there are many options. This time we went sailing for a day.
Our day together started in Izola, Slovenia, where for starters we listened to some sailing theory. Soon after that we went on board.

WASBE 2007 Conference, Ireland 2007-07-10 02:58:00 My brother is currently in Killarney, Ireland
. He is attending a World Symphonic Bands and Ensembles Conference. So if you are in the neighbourhood from 8th to 14th of July I guess you should not miss this event.
Unfortunately I won't be able to attend.
He has been chosen to play in the WASBE International Youth Wind Orchestra as a lead tuba player. He is the only Slovenian musician to play
Malta experience 2007-07-04 01:08:00 The other day my girlfriend and I did a short presentation on our trip to Malta. This time it was for my mother's colleague and her husband.
We always enjoy sharing our stories and tips with everyone interested. They are on Malta as I am writing this and I hope they are having a good time. If they enjoy it only half as much as we did, they will still have a blast.
We went to Malta two years Read more:experience
Trip to Maribor 2007-07-02 23:59:00 Recently I attended a business conference in Maribor, Slovenia. It was only a one day event, so unfortunately I didn't have much time to take photos. Nevertheless I decided to take a stroll through the old city center on my way back to the main train station.
These photos were taken on the main city square. It seems like the City Hall with its clock tower is carefully overlooking the people
A Summer view of Ljubljana 2007-06-29 11:41:00 I consider myself lucky for being able to go to work by bicycle every day. I work just across the city center. Because Ljubljana (the capital of Slovenia) is a relatively small city, it is not very far. It's about a 25 minute ride each way.
It takes me a little less in the morning (I am always in a hurry) and a bit more in the afternoon (I usually take time to enjoy the city center beat). Read more:Summer
The bunny saga continues 2007-06-27 10:55:00 It has been some time since I have posted about the bunny nursery project (actually it was just two posts back). I think the only right thing to do is to finally share some info on the subject.
Every day since my post the little orphan bunnies had a couple meals of goat milk. We didn't know this until recently, but the only two appropriate kinds of milk for little bunnies are supposed to be
I hit the Jackpot 2007-06-15 01:02:00 Or to be more precise - the Jackpot
hit me!
Let me explain a bit of background first...
My girlfriend's sister has been working for the same company for ten years now. As it happens, this year has also been fifteen years since the founding of the company. So for the occasion the Big Boss decided to be generous. For the most loyal employees this meant a 4.000 EUR bonus in a form of a voucher at
Bunny nursery 2007-06-13 00:26:00 I don't know if there is anything cuter than young doggies, kittens, bunnies and similar little fur balls. Well this post is obviously going to be about bunnies! If you are wondering how the nursery fits into this story, you will just have to read along.
Usually I go visit my grandmother every couple of weeks. She doesn't really live on a farm, but nonetheless has a dozen chickens, five hares Read more:Bunny
AGLOCO Viewbar finally ready for download 2007-06-11 00:34:00 I have had an Agloco link on my blog for quite some time (the hot babe in the right column), but haven't published a post about it. The time seems just right to do it now.
After much anticipation Agloco finally released their Viewbar a few days ago (until now this was a missing link between signing up and starting to earn some surfing money). If you have already

Sleeping at a train station 2007-06-08 00:45:00 I remembered this travel story when I was writing the previous post.
When someone mentions a train station, usually people get an image of a dangerous, filthy place, with graffiti sprayed walls and a bunch of suspicious characters hanging around.
Well, that isn't so even with the Ljubljana train station. I am not saying that I'd like to spend a night on one of the benches there. Not that I Read more:Sleeping
Home train museum 2007-06-06 00:29:00 Have you ever wished you had a really huge toy train? How about a real train? Or maybe even a train museum?
Some people just don't settle for a wish. Some of us always want the real thing!
Every day, on my way to work, I pass by this ordinary looking house (you can see my trusty old bike in the bottom right corner)
I guess this one guy living there has settled for nothing less than a real
Food in Belgrade 2007-06-02 04:46:00 No matter where you go, you have to eat. Right? Right!
So what can one get on his plate when in Belgrade
? Here are a few dishes from different restaurants around Belgrade, the capital of Serbia.
Despite of the fact that Belgrade is nowhere near the Adriatic (or any other) sea, one can choose from quite a wide choice of seafood dishes. Some of the seafood restaurants are even supposed to be
The Nubian Nile experience (Day 6) 2007-10-17 23:59:00 The first part of our day on the Nile (described in my previous post) continued with some more relaxing and soaking up the positive atmosphere.
Crew members constantly kept doing something I didn't dare. When they were thirsty, they simply reached over the edge of our boat for a fresh glass of Nile.
If I did that, I guess I would still have diarrhea today. Thanks, but no thanks!

Curse of the Pharaohs (Day 6) 2007-10-15 01:10:00 First thing in the morning we boarded a feluka in Aswan. The plan was to get down the Nile with an occasional stop.
Our first stop was in a Nubian village. It was much needed, because the effects of the Curse of the Pharaohs were just kicking in.
It was a simple village, with colorful walls around the houses. We were invited into one of those to have tea. It is a habit in Egypt to offer a
Last meal on the Nile 2007-10-22 02:23:00 We woke up to find ourselves at a totally different place from last night. We had been sailing for quite some time that morning and have reached Luxor by that time. Our Nubian crew had already prepared a nice breakfast for us. We enjoyed our last meal on the river Nile.
On our itinerary for the day were a couple of nearby temples. First we stopped at Luxor Temple. It is quite huge and
A pyramid or a mountain? (Day 8) 2007-10-24 00:50:00 As I have already mentioned in my previous post, all those temples were slowly beginning to bore us. I knew that later on I would be sorry for leaving out any one of them. It would be ideal if we could get to taste as much of genuine Egypt and at the same time see all the spectacular old buildings. In reality it is quite hard to squeeze all that into two weeks.
We started Day 8 with a tour of
Sunrise on Mount Sinai (Day 10) 2007-10-30 19:38:00 A beeping sound from my cell phone woke me up at 2:15 AM. I only had time to freshen up and grab my backpack. Jeeps took us a bit closer to the mountain. From there we continued on foot.
The plan was to get to the top of Mt. Sinai (aka. Mountain of Moses) and enjoy a beautiful sunrise at 2288 meters above sea level. On the way up we tried to ignore many Bedouins offering a camel ride to the top Read more:Sunrise
